[ADB Setup Shortcut/Send to] Motorola Backflip - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi, if you use the ADB Setup that Moosefist posted you can use this method to shortcut the way you copy apks to your backflip. My method just uses a shortcut that you modify and put in the SendTo folder. Once you do that you can just right click on the file you want to upload and select Send to > Android.
Here are the instructions.
To make things easier you can just create a "Send to Android" option that you can right click on the file you want to send.
First create a shortcut for adb.exe then edit it and add install right after the file name. Rename the shortcut to something like Android or Backflip.
You can find a ss here http : / /cyberpods.net /android /shortcut.png
Then copy the shortcut to the "send to" folder. In windows 7 its in
C:\Users\%userdir%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo
another easy easy way to find the sendto folder is to type shell:sendto at the windows 7/vista run prompt.
once you have the new shortcut in the sendto folder you should be able to just rightclick >sendto > android to copy the .apk file to your backflip
I hope this helps some of you.. It sure made my life easier

Have not had a chance to try this yet, but great post, thank you

Omnia soft keys

Hi all, anyone knows how to change the 2 softkeys at the bottom of the menu? the default is PHONE on the left and MAIN MENU on the right..
Try this -- just unzip and add it to your windows directory and it will appear in the settings.
Apologies to the author of the program - I don't have an original source - but all credit goes to whoever developed or extracted it!

DDMS Screenshot Help

I've been trying to take some screenshots on my G1 for some time now but nothing seems to work. I followed the instructions on these two pages http://www.allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4739
http://soi.kd6.us/2008/11/06/so-i-took-a-screenshot-on-my-g1heres-the-howto/
But ddms won't launch. Every time I click on ddms in the android-sdk-windows-1.1_r1\tools folder a cmd prompt flashes and then nothing happens.
What am I doing wrong? Or is there something wrong with my phone?
Now windows didn't prompt me to install new hardware when I plugged in my phone so I had to open Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Computer Management | Device Manager, go down to Other Devices and choose the Android phone, then right click Properties, and choose Update Driver, then browse to the specific location.
Does that make a difference?
Also I'm running on windows vista on my computer and I'm running JFv1.42 on my G1
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :]
Instead of running the batch file, have you tried to run cmd prompt first? Goto Start > Run > type in 'cmd' and hit enter. Then type in ddms and hit enter.
It seems whatever is happening, it is throwing an error once you click the batch file, so at least instead of closing you can post the error message here then it'll be clearer as to what is happening.
I opened up the cmd prompt and typed in ddms and this is what I got:
" 'ddms' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file"
Does that mean that its not installed properly?
And I forgot to mention in my original post, that none of the batch files in the tools folder launch when clicked on.
Sounds like you haven't installed the SDK properly, especially the step where you add the /tools directory in the system environments.
Try this though: Copy the ddms.bat file and put it in /system32/ folder on your pc, and then try to launch cmd and run again..see if that helps.
Thanks
I figured out the problem. C:\WINDOWS\system32 wasn't in the system enviroments path

in windows, right click on my computer, go to properties, in one of the tabs, its in there.....
if you are running linux, and asking this, then you shouldn't be using linux....
Vista Home Premium...
I click on "Environment Variables" in the Advanced tab and it opens another menu, one with the option to add user variables, and one with system variables. Which one do I need to add, and what exactly do I need to add?
I tried creating a system variable with the variable name of test and the path as C:\Windows\System32 but it didn't solve the problem...
If I open cmd and cd to my sdk directory and type ddms I get:
Unable to access jarfile lib/archquery.jar
SWT folder '' does not exist.
Please set ANDROID_SWT to point to the folder containing swt.jar for your platform.
its a hell of a lot easier using eclipse, just hit the ddms tab and click the icon that looks like a picture
nobody knows how to make this work without using yet another program??
still cant figure this out
Having the same problem, when I click ddms it flashes then disappears. Any idea how to add the file path in windows 7?
If you can't get this to work - There's a nice little program in the market, simply called "screenshot" (free), that'll let you make screenshots either with a timer or by shaking the phone.

Creating a shortcut/quicklink to pocketputty.exe on my homescreen (or start menu?)

Hey guys,
I have putty.exe located in my storage card, and can't seem to add it to my home screen and/or my start menu.
Is there any way to acomplish this?
Cheers.
Creating shortcuts
Hi.
Easiest way entirely on phone is:
1) Locate .exe in file manager
2) Right click (Hold down on the file) to select it and 'copy'
3) Navigate to Device/Windows/Start Menu/Programs (it can take a while to load sometimes
4) Right click & select 'paste as shortcut'.
Hope this helps
That worked like a charm! thx!
I needed to do this for my igo8.exe.
I tried doing it on my pc but the paste shortcut option was greyed out I'm running windows 7 64 bit, does anyone know the reason for this.
I managed to do it using the file explorer on the device but would really like to know why it doesn't work via my pc?
thanks
It's (I think) to do with the way that Activesync/WMDC interprets actions on our WM devices as it doesn't see it as a straight-forward flash device for obvious reasons. The best way is through your phone.

[Q] How can I change file path inside of a exe file?

Hi.
First of all, let me say that half of time took me to look for the right forum in XDA to post this message, and I'm still not sure I'm in the right place..
I think my Q is about modifying my OS, and this is why I post it here.
If the admin think there's better forum to this issue - I'd love to hear it..
Now, to business:
I have a GPS device, brand is X-GPS Navigation, Model GPS-S450B, that I will like to play with.
The OS is Windows® Embedded CE 6.0.
I just found out that at my GPS device, there is a file that resposible to a certain BMP that shown up at the shutdown process.
The filename is "PowerKey.exe", and it reffer to a file named "Notice_en.bmp".
I want to change that Notice-en.bmp file, to show that message in another langueage. I tried to overwrite the file with a similar bmp file, no luck. The file just re-created.
I've tried to edit the PowerKey.exe with a hex editor, and write a new path, to a file in NandFlash directory instead of the Notice_en that lays in Windows folder.
That also didn't go so well. "PowerKey has been preform illegal action and have to be shout down" or something like that, was the message. I could only put the device to sleep, until I recovered the old PowerKey file.
Any solution how to change the BMP file that resposible for the shutdown message?
(I guess the best idea is to write a registry entry to overwrite the BMP file in \Windows directory with the one in the \NandFlash directory every boot, only problem - I donno how to do it. )
Anyone?
There's no solution to my problem?
Recompile the exe.
Thank you.
Any chance to general guidlines in how is that done?

[Q] Question on Droid Explorer

I have a question on Droid Explorer. When I try and install it, it want's the path to the SDK, more specifically, the adb.exe file. I try and point it to the "New location" for it which is "Platform-Tools" but it still says it's not a valid SDK directory.
Now I know this is an issue with Droid Explorer and I found a thread awhile back that tells us how to perform a work around, and it requires using FSUTIL to create a hard link to the adb.exe file and other files droid explorer uses, I copied and pasted it into a notepad so I could bring it back with me to afghanistan since I know internet here really sucks. I thought it was going to be straight forward and for some it might be, but I am confused. So here is a copy and paste of the directions;
------------
C:\AndroidSDK\tools\adb.exe <<===>> C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools\adb.exe
C:\AndroidSDK\tools\AdbWinApi.dll <<===>> C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools\AdbWinApi.dll
C:\AndroidSDK\tools\AdbWinUsbApi.dll <<===>> C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools\AdbWinUsbApi.dll
C:\AndroidSDK\tools\aapt.exe <<===>> C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools\aapt.exe
C:\AndroidSDK\tools\dx.bat <<===>> C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools\dx.bat
C:\AndroidSDK\tools\aidl.exe <<===>> C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools\aidl.exe
C:\AndroidSDK\tools\dexdump.exe <<===>> C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools\dexdump.exe
C:\AndroidSDK\tools\lib\dx.jar <<===>> C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools\lib\dx.jar
An example of using fsutil is:
fsutil hardlink create C:\AndroidSDK\tools\adb.exe C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools\adb.exe
(must be run from a command prompt using administrator privileges)
-----------------
Now the only thing that these directions dont tell me, is the order it needs to be done...For example;
1. Install Droid Explorer
2. Create the hard links
3. Ect.....
So if someone can tell me the order in which this has to be done, that would be great. What I am wondering is do I do the FSUTIL before droid Explorer is installed? If so...do I need to be in the directory where I have my SDK installed at? You know, those types of things. Any step-by-step someone could give me, would be greatly appreciated.

So no one has the answer to this? At all?
