I am trying out qmail for a variety of reasons.
One thing I am finding frustrating is that qmail issues a lock in the folder where mail is stored. If I soft reset, the lock persists because I have the mail stored on the miniSD card, but this means I get the question "WM_user has locked the file, do you want to continue?" Answering yes clears it but since I want the program to run automatically at start up, I would like to eliminate the query. Is there a way to prevent the locking or, if not, to prevent the question?
Second, I went to the trouble to install a bunch of RSS feeds, none of which render properly. The nature of the problem is that html commands aren't being rendered, even with "html mode" checked. I tried a bunch of different settings (quote mode, raw mode, etc.) but none of them led to proper rendering. Clearly others using the program aren't having this trouble; can you point me in the direction that would let me see these feeds? I like the idea of a single program doing mail and RSS, all from the SD card.
I've been using qmail for a while now, and I've found the locked file problem is caused when qmail is running and your PPC is turned off. qmail doesn't seem to handle this very well, but if you shut qmail down before turning your PPC off you don't get the locked file issue.
As to the rendering html rss feeds, I've found this happens only when you are online and try and view the feed. If you are offline you just get a blank page, but if you turn the html view off you get the raw view of the feed.
Not a perfect program, but a whole lot better than the built in one.
Cheers

Automate deletion?
Azol (http://www.azol.ru/texts/QMail3_eng_FAQ.htm) has a means of automating the checking of mail, and of semi-automatically deleting messages from the server when they are deleted from Inbox. I would like to automate this process -- adding a command to apply the rules using autopilot. Does anyone know how to do this?
Also, has anyone figured out how to put the number new messages Qmail has found on the Today screen? That isn't so important to me -- I'm planning on using Qmail for travel rather than as my regular service -- but it would help make it a complete replacement.
Finally, Qmail doesn't work one-handed very well; it would be nice if some of the Dpad keys did useful things.

You may want to use for example nScriptm to start Qmail: instead of just starting Qmail via a lnk file, just delete the lock file from a nScriptm script and, then, Shell () Qmail. Please see for example my latest screenshot-related article for more info on nScriptm.
Or Skschema
Thanks. I figured out how to do this with skschema, as in order to run qmail automatically from the minisd card, I need to delay launching; programs in Windows/Startup start up before the miniSD is available (I even tried a faster card to see if this would fix it, but it didn't) and hence don't start and generate errors. I use skschema to start qmail, and also to start phmtraylaunch since the icons from the minisd card aren't available, either, at the time it starts.

Yup, SKSchema / nScriptm is also a great tool to do this. With earlier PMRecorder versions, I did need to use it (see for example http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=513&c=1&page=1&more=1&tb=1&pb=1 if interested) to avoid the \Storage Card2 problem
Qmail is perfect for me, with one exception. When I hit reply, the original message fills the page. I just want a clean screen to type my reply, and I don't want to include the original. This program does practically everything but this. Any ideas?
Thanks

This can indeed not be got rid of.
You can, however, just tap and hold the screen, choose Select All and, then, just click Delete on the Keyboard SIP to get rid of eveyrthing.
Thanks, I was afraid that was the only solution.
qmail questions
I'm having a huge problem sending email with qmail. One thing that would help is if I understood all the settings in the program, which are different from anything else I have ever seen, probably due to it being translated from Japanese. In tool/account/general, I understand that host information refers to the incoming and outgoing servers, but what is to be put in "user information". Is "address" an email address? "User" tab seems simple enough, as I use authentication and just enter the same in "outgoing" as in "incoming". "Detail" is simple enough. "Pop3" as well, though I don't know what apop is. "SMTP" tab; what do I do here? I don't think I am using a local host. "Dialup" is ok. In "advanced" I read on this forum that my email address should go in "identity". Is this right? If so, would this be the address of the account I receive email with or of the account I send with(if they were different)? I have a comcast account on cingular service. The messaging program can receive and send email using mail.comcast.net and smtp.comcast.net with authentication and no ssl, but qmail can't. Two months ago it could, but now it cannot. Now I"m going to try using a hotpop account to send, but I'm not real confident this will work, since I'm not sure h ow to configure qmail. Any help would be apprecited, Meinnesyss or anyone else.

Here, you only need to enter the info that will be displayed as a sender name / address. In most cases, you can enter here anything.

Wrong. You must enter smtp.comcast.net in here.
SMTP error. (0x00030500) Error occured while MAIL command. Receive an error response. 501 expected [email protected] - <"">
General: outgoing= smtp.comcast.net
SMTP: local host= smtp.comcast.net
advanced: identity= my email address
Thanks
Peculiar issue, after I log into XDA-developers, the next screen it takes me to is an image of a contact card : http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=215514&d=1250071700 each time I visit, I have to manually delete the attachment part of the address, anyone else getting this, or is it something I have done?
Looks like this is just ne then?
Try clearing out browsing history, and test in another browser (IE8, FF, Chrome)...
Thanks Matt, just tried deleting history still the same, also tried in FF, no change.
I have been searching for a solution on this issue since I was using the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide. I wasn't too worried about this before as it had SD storage, yet it was very annoying. Being that we have limited storage (10GB) I am very worried about this. So now I have the T-Mobile HTC One S and I am having the same issue. My issue is when I have my e-mail account active on my phone and just by me browsing and reading my e-mails, the images from these e-mails actually download into Gallery. I don't click 'download' or anything in that nature, I just simply read my e-mails. Can someone explain why this is and how I can stop it from happening? Anyone else having this issue?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time.
Would love help also. I find this very annoying and continuously have to delete them.
Sent from my One S.
Anyone else notice having this issue? Any ideas on a fix?
So I went over to the HTC One X IRC channel since we do not have one. The guys were able to help me out with a solution.
Create a text file and name it ".nomedia"
Be sure to have the setting of the file/folder to "show extension names".
Let me know how it works out.

Uhh.. no. That only hides all files in the containing folder from the gallery. It does NOT prevent the images from getting saved in the first place.
I am not sure if this will help, but I have no other suggestions.. On my phone I have gmail set to not display images. I did this at first because I wasn't sure how much data I would be using per month. Anyway, if I do want to see the images in a specific email, there is a button to click that says "show pictures".
At least that way you can control what the phone downloads.
[edit] just had a thought that maybe that is default behavior and it is old news to everybody? if so, oh well haha
Hi everyone.
I just got this phone for my wife and I and we keep coming across this weird error. In the phone's default message app there is an option ot insert a GIF or Sticker in the emoji section. Adding an emoji works fine but if you go to add a sticker or a gif it backs out and says failed to load picture. I've tried search but can't seem to find anyone who posted about this error. Any ideas what is going on or how to fix it?
fixed
I ran into the same problem. I installed the Google Messages app from the Play Store and set that as my default messaging app. Problem solved.
Hi there,
I tried to set up an access to a GoogleMail (gmail) account in Sonys EMail-App as an IMAP-account, but I failed. I only get the message "Setup not complete Something does not work. Try again". If try to set it up with an invalid password I get the message "Setup not complete Logon failure...", so I see that the correct password is verified and accepted if I use the right one - so there must be a connection to the gmail-account. I used the following parameters: IMAP-Server "imap.gmail.com", Port "993" and Securitytype "SSL/TLS".
I suppose one can't use Sonys EMail-App to connect to GoogleMail-Accounts, because there is Googles native GMail-App. But maybe someone got it to work and could access gmail-Accounts with Sonys E-Mail-App? What did I do wrong?
Regards, Jens
Has anyone tried this and had the same problems?
Or did I something wrong?
