Yes, I've searched and found 3rd party applications (for other devices, not Raphael. Not sure if they'll still work)
BUT, I swear when I first bought my phone last week, I was playing around with the phone, AdvancedConfig/DiamTweak/TF3DTweak, SOMETHING, and I KNOW I saw an option to choose Firstname, Lastname and vice versa. For some reason I can't find it now.
My question: Is there an option on the phone to change this or was I dreaming when I found it?
If not, what's the easiest way to set this option?
Thanks.
When you go to insert a contact via outlook or to edit existing contacts its the 6th option down "File as" and you can choose First/last or Last/First.

I knew I saw something. Thanks
Is there a way to convert all of them at the same time? Going one-by-one for 200+ contacts is extremely time-consuming.
I'm not a miracle worker haha. Maybe someone else can help I have no clue.
amazingly i was searching for this exact same thing yesterday.
unfortunatly there is no easy way apart by using outlook, BUT there is an app for the universal called FILEASCONTACTS.cab whih adds a sub menu to your contact screen which swops the display name to firstname. lastname.
i have tested on touch pro works fine. you will still have to do every single contact but at least you wont have to edit and then select file as...
hope this helps.

Why would droid OS have all attachments in emails download into your gallery?
How can I stop it? I unchecked "download attachments", but as soon as I open the email to view the attachment, it downloads and puts a copy into my gallery. After vewing the pic, I have to go into gallery and delete it.
Is there anything I can do about this?
Question 2, I saved a pic from a MMS by pressing the and holding the pic. I saved to "SD card". when I go into gallery, its not there?
So for this droid has been okay, but why do they make things so difficult at times!
Any suggestions!
Downloads go into the download folder. While in the gallery you can select to view/hide this folder, or "album" by pressing the menu button. They may not show up immediately in the gallery due to a media scan being required.
i think this is a new bug in sense UI or something because i read this elsewhere about all png's and gif's and email attachment junk showing up in the gallery, and it should not be doing that in any way. like if i receive an email with a border around the email, that border should not be showing up in my gallery as a photo!!!!
so far i've not seen any solution to this.
Yep, I am glad some else is familiar with this!!! Can anyone else confirm this?
Same here. This is my first day on a non-Apple phone since 2007. This is top among a growing list of annoyances. And not just because "Apple doesn't do it that way" but because no one should do it that way.
I can confirm that on my AT&T Inspire 4G, every tiny little logo in everyone's signatures on my corporate email account has bloated my Gallery to over 200 images in one day. Only one of those images is one that I actually wanted to save from an MMS.
I've seen people posting suggestions about how to selectively disable the gallery from seeing certain folders by adding .nomedia files to those folders, but images saved from the Messages app get saved to the same folder as all the garbage harvested from email attachments, and I would like to see those.
This needs to be fixed. People shouldn't be fiddling in the file system for something as basic as browsing the photos on their phone.
Yep I agree 100%, there must be a way for us new guys to do away with this. I am sure it can be done if I would root my phone, but also myself coming from a Iphone, jailbreaking was a easy task. After reading the steps involved in rooting, I do not feel comfortable, I simply don't understand the language. I would love to root it and unleash this beast.
no idea if this will work on the inspire, but on the captivate to get a folder to not show up in gallery you had to put a file called .nomedia in the folder you don't want included.
An easy way to get this is from a command prompt: adb shell
then do touch .nomedia /whatever/folder/you/want it in.
I'm guessing this is only using the sense email app. I don't have a problem with this using gmail. I would suggest using a different email app until HTC gets an update out. Downloading and setting up a different email app takes way less time than deleting hundreds of images daily. Make sure you contact HTC support in regards to bugs and security. Files and pictures being auto downloaded is a pretty big security hole IMO.
I called att today and they called HTC, they never heard of this issue. They are sending me a new phone to replace mine!
Does anyone know whether contacts on the One S that are linked to Facebook and using the profile picture, should have their pictures updated when the Facebook profile picture is updated?
Status updates seem to work, but pictures don't as far as I can tell.
I've tried searching for this problem and there seems to have been a lot of issues when Facebook changed their security options, but that was ages ago. There also seem to be a lot of solutions involving the "Facebook for HTC sense" account, but that doesn't seem to exist in the version of Sense on the One S.
How does it work now? Do the updates come from the Facebook account created when you sign in to Friendstream or to the official Facebook app?
Any help would be appreciated.
Alex
Anyone?
Does anyone actually have the Facebook contact photos updating? Or doe it simply not work?
Alex
Have you tried HaxSync yet? Cool thing about it is that it totally keeps quietly in the background, you can set when it should pull the HD contact pics from Facebook for synchronisation and (one option I really enjoy) it is capable of syncing the birthdays of your phone contacts which will then be integrated into the contact itself as well as your phone calendar. You wanna have status updates, too? Oh, it syncs them as well... ;-)
SecUpwN
HaxSync looks good, especially for non-Sense ROMs, but why do I have to pay for an app to do something that surely is meant to be part of Sense.
Also, how do they work together? If I use HaxSync to sync my contacts how do I stop it from conflicting with Sense's contact sync. Also, where do status updates appear? In Friendstream? In the contact itself?
How are contacts paired with the Facebook contact? Does it use the same mechanism as Sense does?
Alex

Mine are updating, but not instantly even with autosync turned on.
In my case profile pictures that are linked with my contacts updated only after i entered facebook application and friends section.

That doesn't seem to help for me. Even pressing the sync button from within the Facebook App doesn't help.
I've also noticed another problem, which makes me wonder if the contact picture syncing is actually a Facebook issue; messages in my news feed in the Facebook app have the correct profile pictures, but if I look in the Friends list, some have old pictures.

If that is the case it could very well be a problem with facebook itself as you said.
Try to un-sync some random contact with a picture that didn't update itself and then link it to facebook again manually, see if that brings out a new current profile picture of that particular contact.

I've tried that before and it does work, but it's not a real solution.
I thought I'd give HaxSync a go anyway and it does seem to work quite well. The contact pictures are certainly higher resolution. Installing it also seems to have caused the Sense Facebook account to update all its pictures too. I'm not sure why that would happen.
However the pictures shown on the friends tab of the Facebook app are still incorrect. It's not as if some of them are recent changes either, at least a couple were changed weeks ago and they haven't updated.
I'll have to wait and see now what happens when a friend updates their picture. I expect the HaxSync version of the image to update, but the Sense version not to.
Weird

You have to edit the build.prop in system, I made a post somewhere on what to change in order to remove the legal restriction. I'll find it and edit this post when I get to a computer.
EDIT: I know this is part of what is causing the clickable links from contacts to be handled differently, your more than welcome to read the article but in a short summary Apple suid HTC over having direct linking from contacts to other account based links ( It's owned by Apple which means HTC had to comply in order to be able to sell the devices but here you go. I didn't find this but I did figure out how to get it to work for our device as it's in the build.prop differently. This will stop pics from adding to your contacts via facebook, thanks to apple!
I posted this fix over there as well but in Root Explorer go to "system/build.prop" and make sure to tap the box on the top right corner of the screen to "R/W" other wise this won't work, now copy the build.prop file to your download folder in "sdcard" and rename it ("build.prop.bak") for safe keeping and follow the instructions I posted below.
On line:"34" from the top of (system/build.prop)there is the first line named : "ro.da1.enable=true" make this line false and add the second line: "ro.da1.method=false" .
Now go to the bottom where it is listed as: "ADDITIONAL BUILD PROPERTIES" the third line is the same as above "ro.da1.enable=true"
so change this one also and add the second line again.
It should look like this:
ro.da1.enable=false
ro.da1.method=false
"ADDITIONAL BUILD PROPERTIES"
ro.da1.enable=false
ro.da1.method=false
Link posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27198692#post27198692 as posted this is for US consumers as this is passed legally here against HTC for linked contacts restrictions.
I'm confused. Are you saying that the mechanism for updating Facebook contact pics is controlled by the same booleans in build.prop as clickable links in SMSs? Does that mean that contact pics don't work at all for US users without making these changes.
Clickable links in SMS work fine for me (I'm in the UK), and contact pictures work the first time the account is added, but the problem is that they don't update when someone changes their profile picture.

EDIT: The noob found the answer 2 minutes after posting about it, after not finding anything in the hours of searching prior to posting. My bad.
I have searched around and found nothing on XDA or anywhere else about this. With that being said, I understand the existence of Gallery and Photos. Not complaining about that.
Is there any way to keep Hangout MMS pictures from populating their own albums in the Gallery app? Here's the issue, every picture I send, creates an album with prefix Hangouts then the name of the contact. Deleting the pictures from the Gallery app deletes it from my conversation in Hangouts too leaving a white picture and the three dots at the bottom which means that the pictures can't be found. This is not only for chats, but MMS as well. Yes I could go get another Gallery App etc... But wanted to try and see if anyone has it figured out first before going down that route.
There is no option to only view albums on the device itself. Disabling the sync, disables auto-backup.
Thoughts or solutions anyone?
+1 on this, I was randomly searching around google support for this the other day but never hit paydirt. Its annoying as hell.
Edit. You inspired me to go look again. Go into the gallery app select settings and turn off sync with google account. Go into main settings/apps/gallery and delete data and cache. Reboot. Worked for me.

Thank you! While you solution does work and I have tried it, it isn't quite exactly what I am looking for. Reason being because I do sync my pictures to my google account considering I just blew through over 70GB in DropBox storage and can no longer automatically upload pictures I take. Basically, I am looking for a way to selectively pick what to display in my Gallery app(I don't want anything Picasa/Google+/Hangouts/Photos in there). Since the intro of the Photos app which is mostly tied in with G+, it shows everything online, and if they are going to keep the gallery app, then they should at least allow it to be used for offline images available on the device(Just like Play Music has, where it gives you the option to to use music on your online account or what you have on your device).
Unfortunately, the dependency of the camera app on the gallery app, makes it impossible to revert back to a previous version of the gallery.
Ah, sorry about that. Not sure how you can pull that one off, I sure didn't see mention of such when I was searching.
Try making a .nomedia file in the picassa folder where it downloads the pics. And same to every other folder you don't wanna see in your gallery. This will help you select what displays along with auto sync enabled.

It creates one for every contact I send a picture to in Hangouts.
That's going to be a lot of files to be created. I guess there is no other way. Unless I just install another gallery.

No it's not like that. You would have to copy paste only one .nomedia in the main folder of the data file of hangouts and one in picassa.
I'm posting this because I've googled this issue to death and I'm not getting anywhere. Nothing I've seen on there has worked. Maybe one of you guys might point me in the right direction.
The problem occurs happens when trying to export my contacts to a .vcf file using the My Contacts app and my calendar to an .ics file with Simple Calendar Pro.
Contact app says: No app was found to handle this action.
Calendar app says: System service for selecting files and folders in unavailable
While we're talking 2 separate apps and 2 separate types of files, I can't help but think these 2 issues are somehow married to each other.
Does anyone have a clue on how to fix this other than doing a full factory reset?
Is Calendar Storage on your phone?
Contacts storage app is on your phone?
This happens when there no calendar storage app on phone, or its just an app malfunction.
Try stock calendar.

I'm fairly certain this is a "My Contacts" app issue than a Pixel 7/Android 13 issue; I'm guessing it's because it's not the stock Contacts app or something.

In Android something (a while back, maybe 10 or 9), apps would need special permission to access anything, even on the internal sd directory. This most likely has to do something with that. Most of the time the app states it needs permissions and you have to direct it to the root directory/device and "allow access". I'm trying to remember this from the top of my head, so it is vague, but it's something like this.

I just looked all over the stock Contacts app on the Pixel 7 Pro. There are a ton of items to either configure or do other stuff, but nowhere is there anything for sharing. I don't believe the problem is there. I just shared a picture with the Gallery app and it worked.
By "not export" I mean that the Contacts app won't export the contacts to a .vcf file which can be stored as a backup and reimported later. When I try it I get the error message I mentioned. I'm having the same issue with the Calendar app. It will not export to an .ics file. Importing does work, the problem is exporting.
I've checked all permissions for both these app. Everything is allowed and the problem persists. :-(

You need a file explorer to export with do you have the Google Files program frozen/deleted or an alternative installed? I use MiXplorer and the app opens when I export contacts to choose a location to export.

I have Files by Google installed and working, as well as Total Commander and X-Plore. All permissions active except for notifications. Shouldn't at least one of these do the trick? Or is there another issue going on somewhere?
Is there something special about MiExplorer that these other proggies lack?

Sorry I should've been more clear i meant an app when viewing all apps in device settings ➡ Show System apps it will be called "Files" or MAYBE I think "Documents UI" the package name is com.google.android.documentsui if you have this installed & enabled I unfortunately don't have any suggestions. As long as it is given permission to "contacts" and probably "modify system settings" is set to Allowed...that should be enough...
I was able to make a copy of the vcf file through the phone app I checked the folder on Google files so you deffo have a problem have you tried clearing the cache of the apps un installed the apps updates and reinstalled the updates if those don't work I think a back up and factory reset would fix it
It may not be in the contacts app that your solution lies. If I'm understanding correctly. It may be the app that you're trying to import the contacts too. I just want to make sure I'm understanding correctly, you're trying to import these things to the simple contacts app? You shouldn't have to do anything with the Google contacts app itself. It's likely to be something you would do on your Google account and not actually in an app but in a browser
Sorry, no idea why that posted twice.

Kudos to you, dude! I googled the package name you mentioned and someplace there was a download link for something called "documentsui-t-frc-doc-3304430". I brought it down and gave it a shot. IT WORKED!! Both the contacts and the calendar file export services work flawlessly. The full name of the package is "com.google.android.documentsui.theme.pixel". It shows up as a system app on the App Manager program. There is no icon anywhere. But hey, it does the job. Thanks for your help.

Hopefully the moderators won't be mad at me for posting this on a Google Pixel Pro forum. I'll try to keep it brief. Hopefully someone can point me elsewhere.
Whenever I try to update something or download from the Windows Store, it gives me a 0x80070001 error. I've been able to download and install updates and store apps manually. The problem is that sometimes this method works and sometimes it doesn't.
I installed something call Windows 10 Privacy. I've been using it since before upgrading to Windows 11. I emailed the developer and he suggested re-enabling all tabs that block telemetry. It didn't work.
I'm convinced that just like the problem I had with the phone, this has to be due to some detail somewhere. But where? Googling hasn't helped. There are billions of suggestions on there to fix the 0x80070001, and none work.
Any ideas..
