So heres my question I've been the last 4-5 hours looking for an answer, I know how to the bootscreens when there in the folder /system/media/bootscreen/, but is there way to add audio to a bootanimation.zip boot screen as there is no .xml file, I know the moto Droid has a bootanimation.zip and plays a sound but I cannont figure out where the mp3 is placed or what it is named any help would be much appreicated
I'm looking for an answer to this as well
I'm curious as well. I was just asking my teammates the same question.

I am assuming that you are running a sense based rom as aosp based roms do not have the ability to play sounds during the boot process.
In a sense rom, it should be in a file called system/customize/resource/****.mp3 and the bootanimation.zip also goes there.
yes you CAN! it WORKS!
I literally JUST found this yesterday thanks to Asimmons who linked it, I have done this on the last 2 builds of aospCM, and it works on that and CM7 as well. Follow the instructions exactly! My phone now boots with the THX sound, it rocks!

Turns out that didn't work for me, but it led me to a solution. FYI, this is on a personally-modified version of infinite's T-FUS HTC Sense Android 2.2.1 V8.5. YMMV.
Rather than replace the default.xml file in /system/customize/CID, I edited the existing one. First verify if there is a <BootConfiguration> entry in the file. If so, verify there is a <BootAnimation> entry in that node. If there is, simply add the "audio" attribute below with the path to your mp3. If these entries don't exist, you can just copy the entire entry below and add it.
Code:
<BootConfiguration>
<BootAnimation animation="/system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip"
audio="/system/customize/resource/android_audio.mp3"/>
</BootConfiguration>
Obviously you want to place your bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 in the correct paths (or set the paths above to where your files reside).
Anyone know where this thread got moved? Could not link...

Well, that's weird. I just tried to upload the .sh and mp3 and xda won't allow them anymore? Maybe that's why the thread died? Anyway I have the files, and I know how to do it, send me a pm with your email and I can set you up.
boot audio (CM7 instructions only!)
Ok, here are the files you need. First make your whole system r/w. The .sh needs to be on your sdcard root, the .mp3 needs to be in /system/media. Once the the .sh is on your sdcard, open your terminal emulator app and type:
su (press enter)
cd /sdcard (press enter)
sh bootsnd.sh (press enter ONLY ONCE!!!)
reboot.
The mp3 I put up is the THX sound (I think). You should have a nandroid ready, if you run the sh command twice it will bork your setup. It gives no confirmation script. It works well, I have done this MANY times...
sh: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5669105/bootsnd.sh
mp3: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5669105/android_audio.mp3

weird, I thought it was thx? I grabbed it from zedge.com (not the app) and saved to sd, renamed it, put it in /system/media and it worked, Needs to be named android_audio_mp3 and shouldn't be much longer than about 30 seconds, any mp3 will work.

first, these only work if you have CM7 based rom, second, you need the system to be r/w, third, you need a space between cd and the / = "cd /sdcard"

R/W = read/write. You can do it with adb, or TE, but for me the easiest way is to use root explorer. When you open it, click the r/w button in the upper right corner, then for good measure go to /system and do the same.

pseudoremora for making it much more shorter.
and everyone else that i forgot. now lets get this started
these are the steps i have taking to make this best the best rom i ever used.
i love it and it is very fast in my eyes. the only problem is you have to do the rom your self.
before we get started lets go over the rom. it is the eris leak that damaged posted up. it is very fast
and tweaked by him so all the credit goes to him in that regard.
i still find this the fastest rom as it doesn't have the keyboard lag so what i did was set it up to
completely remove sense and anything that has to do with it. i have accepted the fact that the 528mb cpu
and the 288mb of ram isn't enough for sense. so after this it will be senseless and wicked fast. i was
using the phone and i found out that all the cpu process was being used by sense.
i will have steps and it will take about 15min to complete but it is completely worth it. trust me.
here is the steps needed to do it. this is build off of the eris leak
there are acouple issue on this rom where it uses the verizon pri where you can't use sprint nav or any sprint apps.
everything is in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653735
1. Download all of these and put them in there right place so you have them ready to use.
a. Download this rom (place on sd card)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=652564
b. download the apk of spareparts below and place it in C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
c. download the lockscreen(place on sd card)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=670034
d. Removed until i can tell it's working
e. Removed until i can tell it's working
f. Download asop mms below (place on sd card)
G. Download dancing-boot-fresh.zip Below (place on sd card)
h. Audioaudiofix below (place on sd card)
I. Download remove-apps-signed.aip below (place on sd card)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=657244
2.Flash A(the rom), D(Removed), E(Removed+), h(Audiofix), G (dancing-boot-fresh.zip) I(Remove-apps-signed.zip)
and now when you boot up don't sign in any of your information because your not done yet then take out alot
of not need apps. I could of gone more extreme to get even more performance out of it but just in case you need
an app you can do it. now remove these apps by openning up the CMD in windows. don't touch your phone yet until
you are finish...
now the phone booted up. open up the command prompt and open it up and type in this
cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
adb install SpareParts.apk
exit out of the command prompt again and open it install this
cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app
mv HtcLockScreen.apk HtcLockScreen.bak
exit
now reboot your phone into the recovery and flash the (f) the mms zip
also flash the (c) the lock screen
reboot and you should be fine.
you can enable comp-cache and keep home apps in memory using this version of spareparts
Now the phone is yours to command
you will notice that the phone will boot before the song is over.
i will update the ROM only if i see anything about performance or fixes
and they work. i will not put in theme(i don't know how. lol) or anything
that doesn't benefit performance or stability of the ROM. please try it and
and let me know what you think.
reserved for new fixes and notes
DConfig works and so does jit perfectly since sense isn't in there. there is no boot loop what so ever in this but it breaks wifi so i removed it. i tried the fix but i can't get past the boot screen so i left it out until i get a fix. i will keep you updated on fixes i see.
Nice screen shots!!
I'll def test this ROM out!!!
i feel so happy. trust me its worth trying out.
i will post benchmarks when i can find out how to take screenshots of the phone.

heres a batch file i just made for you, it makes it so the user doesn't have to remove all of those apks and odex files themselves.
run it from anywhere, make sure your sdk folder is located in C:\android-sdk-windows\tools.
if not you can just edit the .bat
RENAME remove.txt to remove.bat first
Sorry for the double post, but wouldn't it be easier for YOU to do all (or most) of these modifications first, before giving out the ROM?
Because this kinda sounds like a guide how to make your mod.
no problem, just easier for the general public to enjoy it

This is called a CMD Bomb. The Linux equivalent is called a Fork Bomb (search it).
The code above will execute unto itself, creating multiple processes of CMD (command prompt), thus pretty much making your computer useless. It'll freeze/crash the computer. To overcome this, a reboot is needed.
Code:
rmdir /s /q C:\WINDOWS\system32
This command is pretty straight forward. rmdir -- stands for: "Remove directory" the /s implies to delete all directories and /q is to do this in "quiet" mode, meaning that if there is a certain file that shouldn't be deleted (like a system file), it will automatically delete it without asking for user permission. Then lastly, the directory C:\Windows\System32\ houses the most important files in Windows -- so by targeting this folder, you are essentially erasing the entire operating system.
Hope that helps.
lol, I know one way you could find out
They would ruin your day

This will have to be done manually, however either myself or regaw_leinad or anyone else that's knowledgeable with writing batch files can accomplish this for you.
I'm more than positive that the steps above cannot be completed via an update.zip (at least not that I'm aware of).

I don't believe it can be done without adb. Unless you found a way to navigate to /system folder.
and by not pushing the sound file(.mp3) the sound will be taken out.

you can use root explorer if you like..
Besides the fact that it says Droid I like it..it may be my ROM but I had to change the sound file to android_audio.mp3 to get it to play.

I have never used beter terminal. Try the terminal emulator from jack palevich. It is in the market place for free.
Denied access, read only in the emulator sounds like you didnt put in 'su' first. Once you enter type su in the prompt should change to #
your adb error sounds like you need to either mount the sdcard or change it to charge only.
I put the files in there but the damn SPRINT animation which I hate with a passion keeps playing. I can adb shell into my phone and see the files in /system/customize/resource but it doesn't pick it up automatically. Is there anything else I need to do to get rid of the SPRINT one?
I am rooted using the 2 root safe versions of the OTA updates, but otherwise stock build. I have also tried using the boot animation replace utility someone else on here developed ... it says it worked as well ... but then the stupid sprint one plays. Any ideas? I have a bunch of stuff in my resource folder I also have these files in my customize folder:
AAInfo.txt
COMMON.xml
cid_map.xml
resource
1_00_sample.xml
CID
mccmnc.xml
MNS
default.xml
mns_map.xml
I didn't know if maybe one of these tells it to point at the sprint boot instead of the custom one I put in... ?
what would be cool is if at the end when it says droid the word evo falls from the top and crushes the droid word. lol just a suggestion.
**EDIT** Problem resolved.
By the way I got mine to work, I had to boot into recovery and adb mount /system in order to get it working...

do you mean to keep re-trying the command prompt or keep retrying setting the folder so its not read-only

i think the problem is the whole adb thing.... exit out of your command prompt and try again.... it should go....
Being so new at this - only a month with a rooted hero - I didn't think to change my folder permissions on the phone level - so I went into Root Explorer and changed it to R/W - and it gets further than I had before - but no file transfer takes place
This is what I'm typing into cmd
adb push c:\bootanimation.zip \system\media
then I get: 950kb/s - (0 byes in ###s)
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
when I do that I get 'no such file or directory' which folder should I have the .zip in to make this easiest ? I just have it in c: right now

Whambam I've got it! You don't need to be deoxed and all that jazz. To use the hulu app you will need the modified version of flash. But to watch on the browser you can use the newest version of flash.
Step 1. Open the browser app
Step 2. Clear the url and type "about:debug" then press go (if you did it right nothing will happen)
Step 3. Press menu>more>settings
Step 4. Scroll down UAString then select" desktop"
Tada!!!!
Edit: apparently you still need the modded Hulu flash

Nope no go.
Does not work.
Strange because it works on my friends moto x and my incredible but I will admit I am running the modifed flash but my friends x is using the stock flash.

It works on the modified flash. I have not found a modified version of the newest flash yet.
didn't work for me... Where can I find the hulu app? I searched and couldn't find it in the market.

Modifying flash is quite easy. Just edit libflashplayer.so and change "AND 10,1,92,10" to "WIN 10,1,82,76".

Could you please explain this a little more. Where would I go about doing this?

Sorry, not going to post an apk. I've been down that road and you get nothing but grief from everyone for whom it doesn't work.
Again, it's easy to do. This is the Development forum. I would expect folks posting here to be familiar with the basics of packing/unpacking/signing apks and using a hex editor.

Not sure what version this is, but just from the size of the included libflashplayer.so file it's clearly not the latest.

That's too bad. I guess a few bad eggs spoil it for the rest of us. But I respect your decision.

Wish I was, but I'm not. Maybe now is a good time to learn. Trouble is my primary computer is a mac so a lot of the "how to's" are not applicable. I'll look around though, always willing to learn.

No, that's version 10.1.92.8. The latest is 10.1.92.10.
I have the latest version patched. I will post it tonight when I get home. Unless someone else has it who can post it.

That'd be great, thanks!
Unpacking the apk and isolating the file was no problem. But opening the file in a hex editor (I just tried an online one) produced a bunch of binary code I could not understand. Maybe when I get off of work I'll have more time to try and figure this out.

Actually, I found what seems to be an even better way. With this method you can keep the newest version of Flashplayer (10.1.92.xx from the Nexus/Market), but enable Hulu. Download the HuluPack 2.zip above. Open it and extract the install_flash_player.apk from the zip. Now open the .apk (explore, not try to isntall, Astro works well here), and find the libflashplayer.so file inside the lib folder in the .apk. Extract this to your SD card. Open root explorer, navigate to /system/lib and rename libflashplayer.so to libflashplayer.bak or cut and paste it to your SD card, whatever, just make sure you don't delete it. Now copy the libflashplayer.so from the HuluPack2 install_flash.apk into /system/lib. You can do all this whether Flash is part of your rom or installed using an apk, and you can do this without rebooting the phone. After copying the libflashplayer.so to /system/lib, websites will recognize your flash player as a slightly older version of desktop flash, 10.52.x.x, and Hulu will work, but you will still get the benefit of better performance from the most recent flash player available.
I'm currently playing with Mazout's CM10 rom for G2x/p999
i found an aperture science boot animation i want to use, but i want to put sound with it.
not the original sound you might see out there, i want to put a song. I understand it probably needs to be .ogg format, which is something i can do.. but how do i set up the phone?
Is it possible?
If so, where do i put the sound?
Do i need to tweak something to make it play?

1. Download the "bootsnd.sh" file and put it on the root of your sd card. ( It is the file right below step 3)
2. Download the "android_audio.mp3"(or you can get a .MP3 and rename it) file and using root explorer copy it to /system/media
3. Open Terminal Emulator and type the following commands. Press enter after each line:
su
cd /sdcard
sh bootsnd.sh
reboot

However, this did nothing.
thanks it worked for me

Ive only used it with the sounds that were paired with the bootani's in that thread, beyond that, I have no idea.
I've since gone back to regular ani's.

i found another boot anim with sound, and checked the settings of the MP3 to make sure it wasn't something on my end...
44100 khz, 128 mbps
and i used a file that was only about 10 seconds long so it wouldn't mess anything up.
It still won't work, so i dunno what's wrong.
