[Q] Boot sound possible? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I'm currently playing with Mazout's CM10 rom for G2x/p999
i found an aperture science boot animation i want to use, but i want to put sound with it.
not the original sound you might see out there, i want to put a song. I understand it probably needs to be .ogg format, which is something i can do.. but how do i set up the phone?
Is it possible?
If so, where do i put the sound?
Do i need to tweak something to make it play?

1. Download the "bootsnd.sh" file and put it on the root of your sd card. ( It is the file right below step 3)
2. Download the "android_audio.mp3"(or you can get a .MP3 and rename it) file and using root explorer copy it to /system/media
3. Open Terminal Emulator and type the following commands. Press enter after each line:
su
cd /sdcard
sh bootsnd.sh
reboot

However, this did nothing.

thanks it worked for me

Ive only used it with the sounds that were paired with the bootani's in that thread, beyond that, I have no idea.
I've since gone back to regular ani's.

i found another boot anim with sound, and checked the settings of the MP3 to make sure it wasn't something on my end...
44100 khz, 128 mbps
and i used a file that was only about 10 seconds long so it wouldn't mess anything up.
It still won't work, so i dunno what's wrong.

MGS codec unlock sounds

i am working on trying to figure out how to make my phone lock and unlock like the mgs codec. i have got the files on the phone and it works but is way to loud. i have attached the files i used if someone with more audio editing experince wants to take a crack at it.
the files have to be in .ogg format and be labeled Lock.ogg and Unlock.ogg. i used advanced wma workshop to convert the files from mp3.
to put them on your phone if anyone wants this
1 reboot into recovery
2 mount /system
3 open cmd and nav to your sdk/tools folder
4 pull system/media/audio/ui (this will backup the files before you replace them)
5 copy the backed up ogg files from your sdk/tools folder to another safe location and put the modified ogg files into the sdk/tools folder
6 push Lock.ogg system/media/audio/ui
7 push Unlock.ogg system/media/audio/ui
8 unmount /system and reboot
also if anyone does do this could someone upload the backed up files for me i didn't think about doin the pull till i wrote this up and i don't feel like doing a nandroid restore to get them back.
edit my buddy confirmed that i had these backwards i guess that is what i get for not listening to the files first. i reuploaded with correct file names
what if you just took the audio files and decreased the volume of the actual file?

using audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
i used the amplify effect and dropped both ogg files down some
seems to be where i want the sound at, but you can use audacity (which is free btw) to drop it more if you want

fwiw you can adb push these while the phone is running if you adb remount before it (need s-off)
so i tried this through the mount/system through clockmod and was able to push this files but it will not switch to the files i pushed, just uses the system defaults any suggestions? im thinking of just overwritting the rom zip with the new zip sounds and reflashing sounds good?

I used root explorer and just put the files in the system/media/audio/UI and did a restart and it worked.
right on ill give that a try
hey I used rootexplorer as well but i have a question because it does appear to be working. so did you MOVE or COPY all the files (mp3 + ogg) into the UI folder? It does not show up.

i firsted removed the defaults and moved the new files works like a charm but for some strange reason the two sounds merge when i lock phone and the unlock works great not sure whats up may restore originals and try again but first attempt worked fine with the deleting and moveing, i was adding a boot animation and before i knew it both play? no biggie really they overlap each other so its not some drawn out tone

Why not just put them on your sdcard in media folder? I think all roms read from there too as long as the paths are the same (minus the system folder)
Yeah, make the below folders on the sdcard either on the root, or within a folder called media:
notifications
ringtones
alarms
The phone will then present the contents of these when you are selecting one (eg/ the notifications contents will be visable when choosing a message alert).
i am familiar with the media folder on the root of the SD card, however, there are 2 reasons why i dont use it:
1. sometimes, the response is slow, so when someone calls, for a second or 2, the phone lights up with the contact calling but does not ring immediatly.
2. some files get duplicated.
thanks for your quick responses!

Strange, never noticed this happen to me. I've had it play a default ringtone while my sdcard was mounted, but never noticed any kind of delay otherwise.

Good point. I have a similar audio collection on my sdcard but I manually removed the ones that appear in CyaogenMod so they wouldn't duplicate but that could be a pain if switching between roms.
Anyway, here is the update.zip you requested

[Tutorial] Change the internal ringtones of your rom

After you have read and follow this tutorial, you will be able to do the following:
*Remove ringtones, alarms, and notification tones that you don't use
*Add your own ringtones, alarms, and notification tones that you WILL use
**This is not the same as downloading and using a ringtone from the internet, or wherever. Those methods allow the phone to play the file from your memory card. With this method, we are physically removing or adding directly in the ROM itself.
**Make a backup! I am NOT responsible for ANYTHING that YOU do.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Now, Let's proceed.
Alright... So you wanna do this, here is what you will need:
*ADB Installed and working
*Root Manager of some sort (I use Android Commander)
*Format Factory - This is freeware, so it's not warez.
Step 1. Download and install Format Factory. This is the program I use for everything. If you have one of your own preference, it can be substituted.
IMPORTANT: When installing Format Factory, choose CUSTOM install, and uncheck the toolbar boxes. Otherwise, you are gonna get toolbars installed. You have been warned.
Step 2. Open Format Factory and click "All to OGG", located under the "Audio" tab on the left. (OGG is universal from Android to Android. That's why this is the chosen option. Also, the sound quality is not noticeably different, and uses less space than an MP3)
Step 3. Now a new screen appears. Click "Add File", and navigate to your audio files that you want as ringtones, alarm, etc. Once selected, click "OK"
DO NOT CHANGE THE OGG SETTINGS. DEFAULT SETTINGS WORK FINE
Step 4. Now you should be back at your main window, as if you just started the program. You should now see your selected files listed in the right window of the program. On the top bar, click "Start."
**Once the conversion process is finished, you may close the program. By default, your saved files will go to documents/FFOutput
Step 5. Open your Root Explorer program, I use Android Commander
**In Android Commander, the left window is your PC, the right is your phone
Step 6. With your Root Explorer program, navigate to your newly created OGG files. Once you see them listed, select them. In Android commander, to select a file, you must put a check mark in the box associated with that file.
Step 7. Move these newly selected files to your phone, by clicking the "Copy" button above the left window in Android Commander. In the right window, you will want to make sure that you are within your "/system/media/***" folder, to insure these files are copied to the correct location.
Step 8. Reboot and test.
Please note: "***" represents the respective folders. i.e. "ringtones", "notifications", etc.
If you want to remove audio files that you do not use, just select them, and click "Delete" from within their respective folders, using Android Commander.
**Once they are deleted, if you have no backup, they are gone!
I hope this has helped some of you, who wish to do this. If it has, please click THANKS.
Constructive criticism is always welcome. any questions, just ask.
I would suggest backing up the first first...
adb pull /system/media media-backup
You could replace steps 5-8 with this if you know how to use adb.
From cmd prompt:
adb remount /system
adb push drive:\path\to\folder-with-oggs /system/media/(ringtones/alarms/ui)
adb reboot
Can I just ask what's the advantage of doing this versus using a tone off of your SD card? Seems like a lot of extra work.

The advantage to doing this is nothing more than getting rid of extra stuff on your phone. Once the files are converted, you can put them aside somewhere and always have them.
This is with the understanding that you already have these ringtones on your memory card... This is a way to get them off your memory card, and on your phone. This in turn keeps your memory card clean.
I personally like this, because the only stuff that is on my phone is what I use, and nothing more. Even programs I don't use, get stripped from whatever ROM I am using.

android reads your sd card for media just like it does on the system partition.
if you wanna keep your sdcard clean of ringtones/alarms/notifications files
just make a folder on your sd card called media then create the other folders to mimic android's system partition.
so it would be
media/audio/alarms
media/audio/notifications
media/audio/ringtones
that way the media scanner has to do less searching
and if you have small system partitions like older phones this really helps to strip them out the rom and put them on the sd card.
Thx for the info. Works great for my wife's Samsung infuse. I rooted it but for some reason it wont let me set custom ringtones without loading a custom rom. So this method worked great to replace her ringtones on rooted stock rom. Unfortunately there really isn't a solid custom rom for the infuse with what I tested so far.

Great tut. Ill keep it in mind as I normally just use a zip that drops my ringtones into the proper folder and deletes the ones I don't use. Or use root explorer to delete them if there are new ones not in my list.
Extract ringtones
After reading this i thought i could be able to extract ringtones from any rom from the system/media/ringtones/ but unfortunately i couldnt find any of them there.Where else could they be?

Default at&t "rethink possible" boot animation

Hi,
Can anyone point me in the right direction.
I am looking for the default Inspire 4G at&t boot animation. Would like to put that on my Inspire.
I am currently running CM7 Gingerbread and I'm just not fond of that boot animation.
Thanks in advance.
Search in these threads. I have already posted it for someone else.
Edit: I actually found it quickly so here is the link.

I have actually downloaded yours and tried to flash it in CWM. It didn't work. Maybe because I'm on Gingerbread. Any suggestions?
It will not flash through CWM. You need to use a program such as Root Explorer to copy and paste it into the default location which is usually System/Customize/Resource.

I found big lou's guide and it worked.
Just used the command: adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
You can change the bootanimation anytime you like. First, the file has to actually *be* a bootanimation. All you do is place the bootanimation.zip - it must read EXACTLY that way, bootanimation.zip - onto the root of your SD Card. That means, it shouldn't be in a folder or anything. Next using Root Explorer (make sure you have read/write ability (there's a button at the top of the display, when you first open Root Explorer which reads R/O. Push it once, and it changes to R/W, meaning that you have Read/Write permissions). Next go to the SD Card, find the bootanimation.zip that you placed there earlier and long-press on it. This brings up a menu with several choices, I always choose Copy. That copies the bootanimation, and you then back up one level to the first screen you saw, when you chose R/W. Scroll down a little until you find "data", and click on it to open it. Scroll down again until you come to a file called "local", and open it. There should be two or three things in view (a largely empty folder) and that is the place that you push the button saying "Paste". Once it pastes the bootanimation there, back out of Root Explorer, reboot your phone and you should now have your new bootanimation displaying.

[Q] How to enable boot audio with CM

Sorry if this doesn't belong here, I can change audio easily with stock based roms but nothing I've found is working for CM based roms, preferably CM9 if possible. I don't know anything about this, looked up multiple threads none worked I tried the changes they said, editing lines in build.prop, init.local.rc and a way that says to run a script in Android terminal, everything is added/modified I get no audio still

There's an app called BAC lite, it shows an option to install boot audio binary and tells to use android_audio.mp3 in /system/media/ I haven't tried it with an MP3 or even a properly named ogg but I'd say to give it a shot for a possible quick, easy fix.

I couldn't get it to work, app changed boot animation fine but when I tried audio it said it installed the file but still heard nothing during boot
Can't remember where I found this procedure but it does work for me using CM7. I would guess it would work for CM9 and above as well.

Another user asked for this, and I helped him through it, so I decided to post it here so everyone can have access to it. I didn't create the file, just came across it one day being bored..I digress.

*NOTE: Anything in brackets is either description of what is happening or an action you need to perform; don't type in anything in brackets*
What you need to do to get a boot sound on CM7/AOSP is the following.
1. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19699565/bootsnd.sh Apparently some people had issues with the first link, so I uploaded it again. Download that file, place on your sdcard.
2. Take whatever sound you want and rename it to: android_audio.mp3 [needs to be mp3 format] and save it to the system/media folder using a file manager that lets you access system directories. I use Root Browser Lite (you can get from Play Store).
3. On your phone, open terminal emulator, and type in the following:
su [enter]
cd /sdcard [enter] *you can store the bootsnd.sh file to any folder on your SD card, so use this command to navigate to it*
ls [to list all files, you should see bootsnd.sh]
sh bootsnd.sh [enter]
You won't see a confirmation, or message, it just runs, and returns you to a # sign.
Reboot, and enjoy your boot sound.
*NOTE*
If you flash / change roms, you'll have to re-run the process to enable the boot sound again. If you get tired of it / don't want it, you can use root explorer and delete the file.
If your having trouble getting sounds to play this should fix the problem.

Delete it from the build.prop and save and exit.
This is optional but recommened.
Reboot phone.
