Different Firmware Details - All there is to know about ROMs

Hello Peeps
I have had my Prophet (Qtek S200) for about 2 months now. I'm not very satisfied by the speed and it also has had a few system crashes. After my exams, I will try to upgrade it with the ROM from this thread.
Right now I have the following firmware:
Vendor: Qtek
ROM version: 2.9.7.24 WWE
ROM date: 2/9/06
Radio version: 02.07.20
Protocol version: 413.1.03
ExtROM version: 2.9.7.106
Why am I starting this thread:
I have been reading a lot about different firmware versions, different vendor versions, different extended ROMs and so on... all of that information is spread out in different threads.
I think it would be good if this thread would be used to post new firmwares, and especially what is new with them. I would really like to know what has changed in the new firmwares, what the experiences are with them, what additional programs are on it, if they should also be installed or if the install should be interupted by a soft reset after the firmwareupload (read that somewhere).
Also use this thread to post links to other threads that are already open, or lead to further discussions. I have found it difficult to search for a specific information about different Roms or firmwares because of the really confusing titles the threads had, I hope we can all together sum everything up there is about Upgrading, ROMs and firmwares and post it here.
As I mentioned above, I will upgrade mine in about 3 weeks and will tell about my experiences in here.

This is excellent--I also have this same ROM & my device has been exceptionally slow. What ROM are you planning to upgrade to?

I'm in need of some guidance too, all the information is so spread out over so many forums on the web, it's kinda overwhelming right now. I'm pretty tech savvy and have at least flashed and modded a few phones now and my prophet is struggling along while I try to figure out if a random rom is any good, or if it'll screw up my brand new expensive toy.

Well, I have one more week to go and after that I'll try to sum up as much as I will find.
As for now, I'm planing on upgrading to the following Rom:
RUU_Prophet_2151327_21513121_021921_DOP_ASIA_WWE
The one that is discussed in the Thread I mentioned above (see the link). There might have been another one that was discussed since I wrote my last post... I'll have to check
but recently it is really getting annoying ... sometimes it hangs and sometimes there is no sound when a text message arrives.
Time for a new Install!!

The Rom you mentioned is nearly perfect, but the official O2 without the ext. rom patches is just the same !

Changing the ROM of my kaiser...steps to success

Hi, first of all I tell you I'm new in this forum. Afterward I tell you that before posting this thread I read the different FAQs and guides posted hera and I search for my following question but I didn,t find any answer.
I want to change my original ROM that came with my phone but I have few things I want to know before beginning the process. These are:
1- Any ROM will work with my phone? I brought my phone from US and it was unblocked, so I can use it with any SIM from any company here, in Argentina.
The problem is that in the page where all the ROMs are described I don't find my ROM version. My ROM version is 1.82.707.0 WWE and the Radio Version is 1.27.15.32. The protocol version is 22.51.88.13W and the ROM date is 11/03/07. In the Model No it says "Kaiser". The most aproximate version I found in that page is 1.81.707.0 and the Radio associated with it is 1.27.12.11. What I want is to change my ROM to beging using WM6.1 cause the version of my WM is 6.0, but I don't know if I chose any of the ROM that are available or I have to take care of something I don't know.
2- Suposing I can chose any ROM available, is it convenient to use it with the radio that is associated with it or I have to continue using my radio version (1.27.15.32)?
3- If I change the ROM following all the steps that are described in other FAQs or threads, the phone will continue unblocked in order to be useable with any company or it will be blocked for a certain one, for example AT&T? Remember I am in Argentina.
4- How can I do to backup my current ROM and Radio so, if I have any problem I could restore it to my phone? It is supposed that if I do so (restoring the original ROM) the phone will operate as it's doing now, insn't it?

Yes "any kaiser rom" will work with your phone. But first you need to get Hardspl than you can flash any rom that is available here to your phone. Looks like you have a wm6 rom and wm6 radio. When you upgrade to wm6.1 you will need a wm6.1 radio. Most roms come with radios so you don't need to worry about this. If a rom doesn't have a radio the cook will specify that and most will often suggest which radios work best with their rom. To see a list of different radios available please check link in my sig for Alltheway's thread on radios.

i already answered this in my above answer. But to reiterate wm6 rom will work with a wm6 radio i.e what you already have; a wm6.1 rom WILL NEED a wm6.1 radio so it won't work with your current radio.

flashing a rom in no way changes the unlocked status of your phone.

umm okay you don't wana do this yourself as i don't think so you know how to. Most of the stock kaiser roms are available in the wiki and have links to download them. In the even that you want to return your phone back to its original rom you can download from kaiser wiki.
Secondly please do extensive reading... your post shows that you really haven't done your homework. A kaiser is a expensive piece of equipment and you definitely don't want to mess it up just because you were lazy and didn't want to first understand exactly what you were doing.

Anyway, I have to tell you that I didn't write anywhere I had read "everything" as you say. Of course I didn't, all the time in the universe life would be enough to do it. But you can be sure I followed all the instructions that are posted to do before posting a new thread, and those include reading the FAQ of ROM Developing, seeing the charming video of "what to do before posting a new thread", search my questions, and I tell you I spent all the last thursday looking for any answer to my questions, but I didn,t find them. I am not saying that they are not, of course they may be, but I didn't find them. Perhaps, of course, it's almost sure is because I didn't know how to search. But I did it. I read about the different SPLs that I have to download, the different version of them I have to try if I have for ie. the blank display, etc.
Another thing, when you say that always I can have the posibility to restore my original ROM downloading it, I told that in the thread that appears all the ROMs my actual version is not there. So, I wonder where my ROM is comming from and who cooked it.
At last, but not for that less important, I want to really thank you for your and for the time you spent answering my questions. Just remember I'm a newbie and perhaps, someday I'll be answering a question from you in this theme or another, ie. communications!!! Also remember that for us, the people who don't have the english as our natural languaje, sometimes reading the posts can be a little difficult and can be reading something that is answering our question and don't actually realize it or don't understand it at all.

I don't understand what's so special about this ROM.
I was reading the description and among all there's one application (that you can get it apart of this ROM) and that's it..
I know who can port it, I don't but, why you want it so much?

Hi guys im new to this site and new to jailbreaking and would like some advice on the best build for the g1, im currently running the dudes 1.2 and the spec on about phone is as follows:

baseband version 62.50s.20.17h_2.22.19.26i
kernel version 2.6.27-00392-g8312baf
[email protected]#1
build number htc_dream-eng 1.5 cupcake eng.
thedudeabides.20090427.235325 test-keys
what i would like to know is, is there a better build than the one i have or is this pretty good, I only ask because im getting some issues with force close and huge delay in opening some websites ebay being one of them.
please help me because this is soul destroying and dont want to keep flashing different builds and having to re download all my apps

First of all if you want to "jailbreak" something I would suggest you buy an iphone; g1' get rooted. Second of all if you post in the right section you have a better chance of not gettinh flamed. Thirdly if you spend some time reading current/old posts you can get other peoples opinions on each rom. Flash and see how each rom works for you.....not all g1's react to the same rom the same way. Put some effort into it and you will be suprised how much more you learn. Good luck

Start asking your questions in the right sub-forum (Q&A) (Theme) or even in (General), or simply search.......Final result will be a ban for you up too 3 days.

I did see something about the keyboard, but not about the maps or deleting
apps that are considered blot, or that you don't use.

For use a non-stock keyboard on TNT/TNT lite, you have to do more than just installing the APK.
Search in the themes area for 'keyboard' or 'alternate keyboard', and you'll find several threads about doing that. You're going to need root for this (since you asked before ).
I'm not sure about removing apps.

I found the threads, but I do not understand what I need to use to move the keyboard apps or even how to....

This is actually a post of Jim's in another thread. These are the instructions I followed and it worked great for me. (I need to thank-button him for that.)
I like Swiftkey for my phone, but for the tablet, I'm really liking Thumb Keyboard, so maybe check that out.
Two things...first, a real effort with search would have turned up your answer for you...second, "Two questions" is not a very good title for your thread--not descriptive at all. A lousy title is really going to cut down on the number of people who are going to read a post...that's why you will go a long time before getting a decent response.
I don't know about the extra apps. I wouldn't go ripping stuff out without a firm understanding about how different apps--especially system apps--relate to the running of the OS. I can't guide you on that except to say that there's plenty of room on the gTab. That little extra space isn't worth the risk of borking your tablet, in my opinion.
