I'm in China
Why is it I haven't seen much on here about the Asian variety of phones (other than HTC). We have WMx.x, Symbian, Nucleus (MTK chipset based OS), Android, Ophone (Android based not sure why it exists to be honest) and iPhone.
Market share - Nucleus is probably the largest, followed by WM, Sybian, iPhone, then Android/Ophone.
Currently I have an iPhone (ancient 2G), and have just bought a Dell Mini3i, as I donated my 3G iPhone to family back home.
The Mini3i runs an Android variant called OPhone.
The 3i is a little underwhelming software wise.
Its quite crap at the moment as its sitting on Android 1.0 (OPhone 1.0), but for all intents and purposes Android = Ophone its pretty much the same underneath.
There are a bunch of similar phones to this - the Lenovo O1, LG GW880, Motorola something or other (can't be hassled to go look) etc.
While I haven't rooted mine just yet, I have been playing around, and reading the Chinese forums.
Boot loader appears to be similar on all the devices - its made by BORQ's in Beijing, and appears to be quite basic.
Motorola and O1 seem to have the best support for now, the main problem in the Chinese forums is people *****ing about being stuck on older versions.
Some are running 1.6, most on 1.5, and the unlucky few 1.0 "Ophone"
2.0 and 2.1 has yet to hit the mainstream here.
There are people with N1/G5's (Nexus 1 / HTC G5) on 2.1 though, pretty much any phone is available, although anything with wifi is essentially grey import from overseas (HK mostly)
Back to the phone -
Thankfully you can install any apps as apk's, no need to hack for that - so its fairly easy to get info on the innards.
RootExplorer is your friend
RootExplorer also allows you to remount partitions r/w, so root access is fairly easy too. There are precompiled su binaries for 1.5 out there, although I've yet to do my phone.
The Dell mini3 is running on a Marvell Tabor. Fast chip, nice touchscreen, decent resolution, just crap on 1.0.
Firmware files for most of the "ophones" (except motorola) are mff files.
The mff files appear to just be compressed images with instructions for how to write the various partitions out.
eg the O1 mff has this in the "mff" zip
2010/02/25 10:53 147,111,936 factory_CHERRY.fbf

2010/02/25 10:53 176 MHLV_NTDKB_TIM.bin
2010/02/25 10:53 858 NTIM_td.ini
magic_fbf_inner.ini has the layout

Start_Address=0x6900000

(etc)
Different phones have different firmware writing software, the Motorola's are using RSDLite, LG - SML_OMS, CTHall, others something homegrown called Firebolt, which is written by BORQS
Most firmware tools appear similar though functionality wise.
Haven't played around inside the phone yet to see if its easy to get jtag access, although that was mostly because i couldn't work out how to remove the top part without breaking it.
If anyone wants more info, or a firmware dump let me know.
Hopefully there is some interest out there in the English speaking world for these!
(Apologies if this is an inappropriate forum, this seemed the closest)
Lawrence.
hi, sounds like you are a pro on this. hopefully you can offer help on my issue. i have got MT710 with 1.5. could you suggest any solutions for root it? or any other useful info about this phone.
I am kind of interested in the Dell Mini 5 as leaked Dell slides show it will have a Kindle app. Unless, the Dell Mini 3 will also include this Kindle app.
rooting the MT710

The mini5 is a totally different device. The mini3[i/iw/ix] is a phone, the mini5 is a small pad sized computer. Plenty of those in China already with much better feature sets, and significantly lower prices.

Dell Mini 3iX (Brazilian version) is easily rootable. This ophone has already more freedom than many droid phones even without root access.
Dell is launching Mini 3 in US now. it is a different image, running newer oPhone compatible with Android 2.0.
Can you be more specific how to root it? We are rookies

Yes, incomplete feeling emerges while comparing to other droids.
This OS distro is named "ophone" and was created by borqs.com They did quite a good job working on available Android v1.5 sources... Only they took it too long! Android platform is moving fast, many releases in few months. Version 1.5 is year old, almost obsolete now.
Items such as google apps were _not_ deliberately removed: they actually were never included. Those missing apps are not freely available and depend on agreements with Google to be added to any distro. That agreement never happened, possibly were never attempted.
Claro only adds few items of their brand over ophone image, including those apps with notorious red icons.

Sciphone is an MTK based phone. Also runs Java, but not the same as the Mini9 at all really. Different cpu's etc..
Google MTK for updated firmware for those.
@Legbr etc
Finally have some firmware files for the Mini3 to work from.
There are two different 1.5 version ones here:
March 1.5 firmware
h t t p://w w w .namipan.com/d/DELL_MINI3I_OMS1.5.rar/a5ba3b06ab0bfc9baeb2f09b44f54aa40bac3457ee8ebc04
Feb 1.5 firmware
h t t p:// u.115.com/file/f1e196b9b2
Again, the MFF format is just a compressed file with other files inside.
I'll start taking a look at the format in a bit and see what goodies I can find.
I think given the multiple files, it might be possible to compile a newer android, and flash using the current linux bin's we have in the MFF.
Note, you should probably use Firebolt to burn these, as the ODS software is buggy crap.
Put phone into flash mode first if burning (turn off, hold home button on side, power on again). Should show the bootloader screen.
Useful files:
Root tool which works on 1.5
h t t p://w w w .computersolutions.cn/downloads/oPhone/universal_android_root_v1.5.3.apk
RootExplorer (use to get rid of half the useless crap)
h t t p://w w w .computersolutions.cn/downloads/oPhone/RootExplorer_v2.10.3.apk
Firebolt (note you'll need your phones usb drivers installed for this)
h t t p://w w w .computersolutions.cn/downloads/oPhone/Firebolt_2_0_1.zip
Again, I'll be taking a look at the MFF files in more detail hopefully soonish, so I can see whether its possible to include our own firmware files (looks probable).
Lastly, a big f*ck you very much to Dell for all their non-support / lack of assistance for all this.

I guess we can roll our own updates with a bit more effort. Havent looked into compiling Android though, guess i need to start...
They're still shy of releasing any useful stufff though - where is the firmware burning stuff? (eg Firebolt or similar)
Hello fellow,
Any progress to root and build a new rom for this device?

Hi guys,
I know that my question will be totally out of place.
But I'm experiencing a problem with my mini 3ix and i've searched high and low for any solution and here is far the best content that I found about this phone.
Today I woke up and it was shown that my sd card was full. It asked if i'd like to uninstall some apps. I chose to do so, but it froze and I could only remove the battery to turn it off. From that on when I turn my phone on, it keeps rebooting.
Is there any way that i could solve this problem without sendind it to the Technical Suport?
I thank you all beforehand.
Updating 1.5 to 2.2
Hi shanghailoz
Is it possible to change te mini 3iX OS from android 1.5 to android 2.3???
Is there any way to change the background wallpaper; add more shortcut icons to the upper section of the "home screen" or simply use the "home screen" to add apps as a "post it" (remainders) as the -samsung star- allows???
Thanks in advance

Hola celtichazard. Hasta ahora tampoco he encontrado ninguna aplicación "market" que funcione con el Mini 3iX, pero encontré un sitio que te permite descargarlas a tu disco duro para después copiarlas al equipo e instalarlas:

but today i found what i want. enjoy..

I did re-download the latest version of the SDK just to be sure
Additionally, I did not have a build.trout.prop. I made the changes in build.prop.
It says here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=582953) that this will only work in Donut
Now I dont have Google Maps installed
Any chance of this working with 1.5?
Here are the link over in the Dream Development forum that figured it all out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583123
big props to canadiancow, brut.all and TAPP for getting it all done
i think you need to be on a donut rom to get it to work
I have the same problem [INSTALL_FAILED_OLDER_SDK] on HoFo ROM
I read on another forum that this really works best on Cyanogen 4.2.X
Works like a Charm in Chile in South America...
It's pretty tough to read through all 9000 pages of all 9000 threads related to this subject. So, unless someone can point to a link of this actually working on Cupcake, then this thread title should either be edited or deleted because I tried it on on Hofo 3.07 and it was nothing but major problems and didn't even come close to working. Luckily I backed up before the experiment.
Every success story I have read of this working on a 32a Magic, the person is showing a Donut ROM in their sig.
mistake.. sorry
sorry guys, its my bad. currently no cupcakes user post any successful navigation. only 2.0 or 1.6 supported. well, why do u guys still wanna stay on 1.5? upgrade to donut and have a taste of the NAV!

I extensively use Exchange integration and the only tool that provides that on a good level is HTC Sense. AFAIK there is no 1.6 ROM with Sense. Otherwise I would give it a try.

Lastest news:
Just in case anyone is following this thread. Google Maps 3.2.1 (which is the latest Map app with Nav from Google) has been tweaked to allow it to work outside of the US. There are two Nav launcher apps that have been released to work with it to get search for directions by voice. "Tim Hortons in <my city>" works great which is very important to us Canucks...
This requires 1.6 plus working voice (to speak the directions). It is available for both rooted and stock phones. IT DOES NOT WORK WITH 1.5 (Cupcake).
It does seem to be somewhat dependant on what ROM you are using. It works for sure with stock 1.6 builds, and with "stock" Amon RA and Cyanogen ROMs. Depending on what you are running and have tweaked it might not work or cause issues with other apps. One side effect some people are reporting is it causes FCs with Google Places.
It does not work in locations where Google Maps does not work (I think Maps does not work in Vietnam).
The latest iteration is easy to get working. However, the root version (which replaces your existing Google Maps app) absolutely requires you to remove all instances of the Map app off your phone and uninstall it (to remove the keys from the packages file) before you will be able to successfully install the new tweaked version. The non-root version provides a renamed Maps app so you will have both Google version and the tweaked one co-existing on your phone.
It does not require mucking about with build props, so if you don't like it all you have to do is delete the app and reinstall the stock one from the marketplace.
I have seen reports of it working in various countries in Europe and can confirm it is rock solid in Canada.
Hi Androids!
Can someone who owns this device please provide me some system informations from apps like mini system info, quadrant and such? And, if you got, intern screenshots of the hardware. Thanks.

Hello,
I ordered a Herotab M10 2 days ago on pricedinchina.com. I'm aware it doesn't comeis with Android Market preinstalled and therefore I would like to install it manually if possible.
Regarding the firmware you're mentioning for the Gpad Gforce, are we really speaking of the same tablet? Many specs are different: 8GB flash NAND (Gpad Gforce) vs 2 GB (Herotab M10), Webcam (only Gpad), different batteries, etc...
How can we be sure that we're not going to brick the tablet if we use Gpad's firmware ?. Btw, there are 2 different firmwares on pandawill forum: one for the original Gpad Gforce that didn't come with Android Market and another one for the new version that comes with the Market. Which would be the right one for the M10?
One last question: is there any other way to install Android Market in the Herotab M10 apart from a new firmware?
Many thanks.

From the research i've done so far I believe that there are at least 2 different version out of the device (And I don't mean just the NAND difference). Maybe there is one "original" device and one cheaper copy of it like it is at the Herotab M802..

I think we are talking about the same device, about the market issue, maybe (really, maybe!) this can help you:

Thank you! I will try the procedure explained in your link... I'm really a newbie so I was expecting a simpler method (such as a third party apk that could be run from the SD, for instance...).
I will let you know when I receive the tablet!

And you're not wrong with thinking of that. Since Android is an open-source plaform there are several alternative markets, just google for SlideMe, N-Market
or have a look here: http://www.wipconnector.com/appstores

i have the original one with one speaker on the right side. i know the problems with furtwangen, but its better to buy from germany as from china. If you have a problem with the tablet, you can send it fast back. send back to china costs 40-60€. So have a little bit trouble with furtwangen is better then have much and expensive trouble with china

Well I think I will wait until the PandaWill site is up again, and then maybe wait until I can buy this device from eBay Germany. It's pretty new though so give it a lil bit of time.
But apart from that I'm assuming you don't have the original one, do you? Because the PandaWill's version is sold with a camera...?
Something new about firmware related issues you may or may not have. Again I'm not owning this device ATM so all I'm saying has not been proved by myself.
As far as it looks now the Pandawill company got connections to the producer of this devices. There are 2 version, one "old" GPad which has no official market by stock and has no Gpad logo on the back, and one "new" version of it which has both.
You may check your device and decide whether you got an old or a new version. If you're done checking there are also 1 firmware update for each version available at the Pandawill forum (Please look at the links in the first post).
Further there is another version from a user in the Pandawill forum that he labeled "clean imx515 2.2 froyo build". You may also want to check out this in the first post.
Hope this helps a lil bit.

Ehm.. you may find one, but it won't bring you any further. The developers of this device haven't just removed the Market (vending.apk) for no reason. They did it because there is currently no way to get a Google ID, which is required to use the market. Another apk you would download from the net will end in the same result.
But anyway, haven't you tried some of the firmwares mentioned in the first thread? Because there should be an firmware with working market for both the old and the new gpad version.

Thank you again! I haven't received my tablet yet (and it won't be shipped before Feb 10th because of the Chinese New Year...) so I haven't been able to test anything yet.
In any case I must admit I'm not 100% confident about installing a Gpad Gforce firmware on the Herotab M10. I haven't seen any reference about this procedure and its results anywhere yet and I wouldn't like to be the first to test it with my limited knowledge... It's not a U$100 tablet!
I will keep you updated. Thanks again for your support!

Well, I stil assume both to be the same devices, but of course I don't know it. I don't think that you can constant damage your device because even if they aren't the same they are quite equal. So the firmware bust be quite equal too. The most horrible that could happen is that you won't be able to use your device anymore. Then you would need a HeroTab M10 firmware. But again i'm 90% sure they are the same.
Please send me a link where you bought it.
Hi guys. This question was answered in another thread that was about the Blu Studio 5.3 in general, but it was way down in the thread and the site that explains how to do it is in Portugese, so I thought a separate thread would be useful for searchers.
I was able to root the Blu Studio 5.3 (Android 2.3.5, kernel version 2.6.35.7) using SuperOneClick 2.3.3 with the alternate ADB driver. I was NOT able to get it to work with the Linux version of SOC or get it to work using a Windows virtual machine running on a Linux host. I had to boot into a real Windows 7 system and install SOC, and then it permanent rooted the Blu with no problems in about 30 seconds. I have confirmed that the root survives poweroff and reboot, but haven't tried SOC's shell root or unroot.

Have rooted with the linked file and the instructions above. Only question is how to go about scaling the CPU or overclocking it. None of the current programs like SetCPU seem to work.
Correction: MTK CPU Control works perfectly to boost the 650Mhz processor to 800Mhz with noticeable improvement in speed and functionality both in interface and in gaming. Available as a free trial and as a paid app.
Anyone figured out the overclock CPU settings yet. I only get zeros or nothing on all the overclocking apps...
Sent from my BLU using XDA
Root for Blu Studio 5.3 D510 wow!!!
Keeping all my hopes on XDA I have bought 2 of them even though D510 doesnt support 3G band 900/1800 for WCDMA frequency in Asia.
This mobile got impressive enough hardware to attract the developers around but was ignored due to its little brand name.
I am waiting for some kind of success in rooting this with CWM so that I can remove unwanted bloatware.
Also any chances to enable 3G network with 900/1800 Mhz band in service mode like samsung???
I have the blu and hate all of the bloatware that came with it and want to try rooting it. This will be my first time rooting and was wondering what roms will work?
Hi guys,
As you can see I'm new at the forum, but I have a Motorola Atrix 4G, Rooted, Unlocked BOOTLOADER, and with the NOTTACHTRIX ROM Installed with the Darks Side Kernel....
I also recently bought a Blu Studio D510, and I have an issue with play music...
I tried with several music players, and I'm still not success...
All the type of files that I tried are .mp3 and .wma
Do you know were I need to put the files in order to used the music player?
Thank You...

Hello all!
First time poster, just getting into rom porting and android dev.
making this thread, due to the serious lack of information / boards about these tiny china phones that are flooding wish/aliexpress and are stuck on android 6.0/7.0.
I've tried to use a few different roms as ports (where i patch select files from etc/lib and all that good stuff) using a guide found here specifically for mtk chipsets. I've only tried x32 to x32 same SoC, and patching kernel from stock rom in. This was without any kernel changes, still patching in my 3.18.19+ kernel over mostly 7.1.2 roms built for 3.18.19. I'm guessing the + makes it completely different like mt6737 vs 6737t or 6737m.
My goal is to port an MTK kernel to my current device (soyes s10, mt6737m android 6.0 kernel 3.18.19+ 3/32gb model) that supports android 7.1.2. I've found what I believe to be an almost the same version device tree, and I have ubuntu and windows and am rather well versed in both.
I'm not sure how to discern the kernel version (linux ver) of this download, but my "custom build version" is looking very similar, alps-mp-m0.mp1-V2.84_bd6737m.35g.b.m0_P81.
I'm mainly wondering:
1. Who else has some of these tiny china phones (only band 41 us support!) melrose, ifosa, soyes, unbranded, etc? I've ported over TWRP for this device also if anyone is interested. root was simple enough with mtk-su. It flashes zips but it wont boot roms. it's TWRP 3.2.1.0 or 3.1.2.0 I'm not 100%.
1a) could my whole problem be solved by porting a newer version of TWRP for the device?
2. can I port newer kernel 3.18.35 from source above?
3.MTK's whack implementation of fast charging, PE+ 2.0 support for my mt6737, they send 15w (5v3a) motorola branded charging brick with phone. but it seems to charge at random rates, not fast charging. Not sure if it's even worth it to try and find a brick that is listed as MTK PE+ compatible. anybody have any advice there? it would be a dope phone if the fast charge was reliable. maybe I can mod the kernel to force enable it in the future.
4. why won't any of my ported roms boot? I can't find a modules folder in my stock fw's lib image(s) where it should be in order to port. are these maybe just located in the root of /lib and very specific files I have to cherry pick and port over? i'm thinking android -all modules = no booting. not really sure where i'm going wrong but it's a million questions in one so if you can answer any of them, please chime in
I forgot I can't post any links, but like I have links to stuff
Thanks guys, I've been lurking these forums for near a decade.
It's nice to meet all of you, looking forward to some good learning
Nick
Hi mate.
First off, I'm really sorry -but I can't answer any of your questions...
I'm looking at the Servo S10 for myself, though ; how did you go with everything -any progress?
Also, how is the battery life? Sounds like it's not a deal-breaker. Sorry again that this isn't an answer to your questions, but I'd appreciate the feedback.

I had some problems with my tv box h10 6k (google play not installing apps). I tried to change the ROM, the one I found is working great but it doesn't have wifi drivers.
Can someone help me locate drivers for this box, or find the original ROM?
Specifications:
Allwinner h6 quad core 64-bit Cortex-A53 / gpu mali t720
Images of box are attached.
I have another box of the same version as this, but I don't know how to dump ROM.
Thanks

I found a tutorial on youtube by china gadgets using phoenix suit, I didn't save the link, but it really easy.
Rom doesn't have any advantage of original ROM (I didn't notice). I have two TV boxes like this, one wasn't installing play store apps and the other was perfect. I just changed the one that play store was giving errors everytime.

Just a question related to the device, not the O.S.
When i put "poweroff" from the remote control (the red button) the device put "off" (so far so good...). But when i press again the button the device dont wake up...... this happend also with your device? (when is on a blue light is on, when is off the classical red light of a led).
Thanks again.

Hi
I´m having the same issue with my Android Box H10.
Already got the img file, but can´t to get the flashing software right... might be a driver issue...
Windows detects the "USB Device(VID_1f3a_PID_efe8)" driver and installs it, but PhoenixSuit althou detects the device a prompts to start flashing, it does never really starts.
I tried 2 versões of the driver (from 2013 and 2014). tried on Windows 10/11 and even XP (vm).
The result is always the same...
I´m running out of ideas, so if you have any suggestion or idea, please dont be shy....

Sorry, i ask this several months later but, probably I'm gonna do this change these days:
I notice that the tv box has to have the same specs. Visually is the same and also this "Allwinner h6 quad core 64-bit Cortex-A53 / gpu mali t720"... but some are 16gb of ROM another 32GB, or 64GB. Alsocan be 2gb of ram or 4gb of ram.
The image that you share is for what amount of ROM and ram? (if i put the wrong probably ill brick the box).
Thanks!

Hola tengo la misma con 4 gb de ram y 32 gb de rom , que firmware se utiliza ? como se llama el programa para actualizar el firmware ??? alguien tiene el tutorial por favor
I have an H10 Pro 6k - Allwinner H6 SOC.
I have not found firmware but - for those who can not install apps from Google Play - try these 3 things.
1. If possible connect with ethernet instead of wifi. Often works for me.
2. I also use Uptodown as an alternative app source. There are also other app stores you may be comfortable using. (Download from non Google sources with some risk - check out the reputation of the source).
3. Search for the app in a browser, download it and install. (Again, be careful where you source the app from).
Try these 3 methods and any app should be available.
