[Help] - Touch2 Themes and Apps

1) firstly my zoom bar is not working. (cant zoom for camera, cannot enlarge fonts while texting or reading sms, viewing of webpage is restricted)
2) after doing some "tweaks", my default QWERTY keyboard wont show up. i can only use Fingerboard2 if i want to type.
help anyone?

1) I didnt even know the camera had a zoom function until you said, duh me
2) What tweaks exactly did you do? you really shouldnt be farting about tweaking stuff if you're unsure what you're doing, especially if it involves your registry.
If you cant undo your "tweaks" I reccomend you back your files, contacts etc up on your PC and MyPhone or SPB backup and perform a hard reset, lesson learnt.

Agree, Hard Reset will do the trick, and next time try not bricking your device mate

hehe yes i did hard reset -.-
all's good now!
yeah the htc touch2 has a zoom bar! lol..
well i installed this cab which disabled the keyboard from popping out when not needed.. then i installed Fingerboard2 so that i could use my mega in landscape mode.
but all's good now! thank god.

Ohhh that bug is SO annoying, i get a text mid game and BAM keyboard blocking my view! I'm like "GAAAARRRRRGH!"
I knew about the zoombar, just didnt realize i could use it to zoom on my phone.

Changing Contacts to Touch Flo style

I love the new Touch flo interface. Perhaps I am asking too much but is there a contacts program with this type of interface? It is the biggest thing I notice when using the phone - most other programs are nice and black/grey but the contacts is plain old WM style. I have the random access installed which helps a little but I would prefer the whole interface. Any suggestons?
Thanks
Allan
Have a look at PocketCM Contact
Its not bad but feels a little buggy in use Any other suggestions?
Contact program
Try vito contact fun. amazing contact program. wery good and colorfull.

Do you have a link to it?
Thanks
Allan
Allan,
Link is here : http://iwindowsmobile.com/contact-manager.html
Although a little confused about why you say PocketCM feels buggy?
I've used it since it came out, think it's a lovely piece of software (and considering it's free it's a right bonus!!).
I installed it, changed the theme to Touch and my keyboard went down so I couldnt see the bottom menu options, the colours meant I could sometimes see the contacts, sometimes couldnt. I couldnt close it since it also got rid of the top start menu bar - just not nice to use really. I want something that feels familiar.
Get ya. The other link should be fine then, it's really nice, not used it much so don't know how customisable it is, but for about a fiver you can't really go wrong.
Had a look at the FunContact and it is better but 2 things wrong with it (1 Major, 1 Minor).
1) (Major) I do not want to wait a few seconds every time I access my contacts for the program to load - and I do not like the lack of button to close (have to select menu and then exit).
2) (Minor) Still doesnt fit in theme-wise with the HTC theme - customisable colours would be great.
So, I am still on the look for something to replace the boring old outlook-style contacts, anyone?
Thanks
Allan
this is the best, IMHO http://sunnysoft.com/software.php?idarticle=296
I have used both PocketCM and FunContact. I found PCM to run a bit slow on the TC even with the latest .20b version. FunContact is the more polished of the two but I found two annoying issues: 1) splash screen when loading the app, and 2) there's not a quick way to exit the app besides going thru several button presses.
The Sunnysoft app looks interesting but it has the same awful letter bar as the default contacts app. I like the finger-slide type of FC and PCM.
You could minimize it then the next time you open your contacts it will open without going through the prolonged startup.

Several Mod Questions

First of all Thank everyone that uses this site because it has helped me do alot with my Sprint HTC Touch Pro. I love this place.
My first question is if I have done everything I should as far as increasing the speed and preformance. I've done the audio boost and the battery and speed cabs. I'm using the defualt Sprint ROM, afraid to change it lol.
Next, Is there a way to change in the settings or registry the "backlight" I suppose. Where it will still show up or something when the phone is idle, it seems like I have to slide it open to get the screen to brighten up again.
Third, I have added the Calender, Call History, Sounds, and Communications tabs through roscoe explorer editing the 26xxxx_manilla file. Any ideas on adding AIM to these tabs?
Lastly, Can anyone point me in the right direction on making icons? I make icons for the pc aswell as program in C++ with adobe knowledge. I just dont know where they are on the tf3d.
Thanks everyone for all the support. I will help anyone as much as I can.
Oh yea, btw My wifi works fine but my sprint data doesnt work. without wifi i cant browse the net, watch tv, or navigate. any ideas?

The tab icons and graphics can be extracted using TF3D editor (look in the diamond software section) Adding an AIM tab is a bit of an unknown so until there is a SDK for manilla which can be used to add arbitrary code into a tab im not sure what could be done).
I would also check with your provider to see what settings are needed to get data through your connection as they might not be set correctly.
So far im not aware of any CDMA specific ROMs so you are best off to wait until there are some designed for use on the Herman (CDMA Raphael) you will find them in the CDMA section when they are released.
Thanks
Thank you very much
if u wanna light up the backlight when the phone is idle, just touch the centre of the dpad, as it is capacitive and it will light up the backlight again! Cheers!

Start Menu - 4/5 Items Wide

Update 27/11/2009:
I have now made a multi-device version here. It adds landscape support and the text is slightly larger to accommodate devices with smaller screens which I think looks better on the hd2 too.
Old version:
Hi All,
I wasnt very impressed with other 4-wide and 5-wide options, so I just modified the .cpr from my hd2 myself.
This doesnt touch the registry, so wont be much use for non-stock ROMs and other devices unless you edit it yourself:
HKLM\Security\Shell\StartMenu\CustomGridForm = "StartMenuCust"
You will need to soft reset after installing.
Enjoy!
Could you please post some screenshots?
No problem, screenshots added to post 1.
My CustomGridForm is already =StartMenuCust. Should your cabs work on my case (original rom)?
Other question: Did you get your start menu to work on landscape? I've seen some threads about this but I would like to know where to change this on the reg myself. Some apps might have unstable behavior when adding apps to the white list.
Thanks!
If you are already StartMenuCust it should work - I think its only when custom roms start coming out that will change.
I should have mentioned - This is just for portrait. You could change the landscape yourself as it is fairly trivial. Look in \Windows for:
StartMenuCust_480x800.cpr = Portrait
StartMenuCust_800x480.cpr = Landscape
Edit these in notepad (it is just xml). You have to change the row count to 4 and change the relative size of the images, text etc.
Just tried this out .... very effective thanks!!
just a little point, after the install, the black screen offers a Restart button or cancel; on my stock HD2 neither worked, it had frozen. A soft reset got it going again, with a 5-column display
any chance of gettin them in a straght line instead of honeycomb?>
Editing seems to be simple enough. The problem is that my start menu doesn't rotate automatically. I could use gyrator to make it work but I would prefer to use the whitelist or any other reg edit. I avoid using programs that have to be running in the background or tweak my Leo for me, as much as possible. If I reg edit and it doesn't work, I know what I did and can always change it back.
Any idea on how to do this?
Thanks!
pdgpereira:
This thread seems to cover the reg changes you need to make. I havent tried it though!
vinokirk:
Not a clue, sorry!
Armes:
I dont know why it crashed for you. It asks you to restart itself (presumably because it changed a system file) so its installers fault!
Thanks for the link. I had been there but with no previous success. I finally did it. I isolated the reg tweaks made by gsen cab, I think, and added some others. A soup of reg tweaks... The problem with cabs is that you never know what exactly they do. I'll be doing some reg cleaning in the next hour.
Now I will try out these 4/5 columns in landscape.
Thanks guys!
Cab for QVGA
Can you please release a QVGA version?

I was also wondering this... Maybe setting HexagonGrid="FALSE" in the .cpr files does the trick? Will try it out and let you know.
vdws: I wouldnt recommend touching the HexagonGrid option. Im not really sure what it is for, but if you set it FALSE your start menu wont work anymore. Well, it will, but after a long pause while it changes back to the default WM6.5 grid. You would then need to change the registry value mentioned in post 1.

I am happy to convert mine to qvga - and tried but its quite hard to judge in the emulator what it looks like. I dont have a qvga device and I cant seem to use the htc fonts in the emulator.
Have you seen:
[Tweak - QVGA] [3-Sept] | 4/5 Portrait | 4/5/6/7 Landscape | Start Menu 6.5
by chris10234?
That looks like it will suit your needs fine. Let me know if you really want my version but i would need you to test it a few times for me!
Looks amazing cant believe i spent the last 4 days without this tweak thanks for doing it before i had to as it was my plan!
Just wish that landscape would auto-rotate on it...

If I want to change it back to original setting, is it just simply uninstall it ?
-----Note------ I had tried it, eveythings back to original by simply uninstall the cab file. Now I am using the 5 items wide, it looks smaller but more tidy than 4 items wide.
Very good and thanks.
Any chance you are going to make some landascape ones?
As i added auto-rotate with bsb-tweaks and now have 5 in portrait and landscape but landscape could much much better...
EDIT: Saw the other thread and if i go for the 5 cab there it will give me 9-wide in landscape, right?
adab: Thats right, uninstalling the .cab should restore the rom default.
chris10230: Yup, I have an updated one here which supports landscape too. For the HD2 WVGA thats 5 portrait and 9 landscape.
Cheers once again!

[Q] Looking for HTC keyboard! (T9)

I've searched throughout XDA and can't seem to find a keyboard that I can install that brings back my beloved T9! Searching the market brings up little as well.
I just recently got CM6.1 + Kernel #43 (+ various other things) but before this i was still using MoDaCo's 1.5 ROM and although I love [almost] EVERYTHING about CM6 - I can't find a way to get the dial-pad keyboard with T9 for texting. I'm assuming it doesn't exist.
I just want to know what keyboard is good and simple and includes a T9 dialpad-style keyboard for portrait view. Preferably free... but not required.
Some keyboards I've heard of, but no verification of T9:
Smart Keyboard Pro
Swift Key
SWYPE

THANKYOU!
This is fantastic!
EXACTLY what I was looking for. I can type extremely fast now (even in the car... shhhh) and at first, I was glad to have to T9 back but the keyboard itself looked a bit goofy. Then I saw the 'AOSP generic look'; it is perfect.
Thanks so much!
Follow up
Ok - I had to follow up on this again after using the keyboard for a few days. I don't think I did it much justice.
This keyboard is incredible. Not only is it simple looking (although you can apply other themes if you wish), the customizability (is that a word?) is insane. I spent forever just going through and playing with all the settings. Sometime it takes a while since you have to kill the keyboard and wait a second for it to come back in a typing app to test it, then go back to the settings menu, tweak, rinse & repeat.
I was thrilled to see that there are custom smiles because when I do use the smilies, which isn't often, I don't like them to have the 'dash' noses (ex. ) I prefer the simple but maybe I'm just really picky. Having the customizable smilies is awesome. You could even just replace them with anything you use often. One downside however is if you add too many, they'll just run off the screen and you'll not have access to them.
The custom swipes is a nice feature as well. When you swipe along the keyboard in one of four directions, you can assign custom functions. I have my 'swipe-up' set to 'Shift' so I can get capital letters quickly. I know it doesn't seem quicker than pressing the shift key but it is for me. It just feels more natural too when I'm texting or emailing. You can even set a swipe to change languages , I think this would make multi linqual people very satisfied. Type BOOM Tipo BOOM 类型 BOOM Тип.
There are many other settings including the organization of buttons, word prediction and spelling settings, and much more. You can even save and restore settings!
Best of all... it's FREE!
Edit: Thanks again!

So the wife can't live without her stock HTC keyboard. I'm going to flash AOSP's CM7 build for her, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a plain old stock HTC ime that will work with GB and specifically this ROM? Thanks.

Possible to use swype in landscape?

So I want to star using a landscape soft keyboard for a bit, as I may be in the early stages of carpal tunnel syndrome. I want to use swype to avoid tapping.is this possible? It looks like sammy locked us out of landscape mode, ignoring that some pripley might enjoy it once in a while.
Edit: I just tried slideIT, and it looks like that may be unable to go into its normal landscape mode as well. Why does samsung insist on locking people out of the native soft keyboard just because we have hard keys? They did it on the epic as well, but my old lg ally still used the soft key in landscape If I didnt open the phone.
Yes, this was disabled by samsung, and therefore would need a very extensive mod/customized rom to have that possibility added. So, to answer your question, no, we can't do that.
WOW thats stupid.*adds to list of reasons to never buy a samsung phone again*
that list is gonna be so big it'll crash your hard drive.
That really sucks, you would think that they would enable it for people like Falkner, (Sorry for your condition) or for easy access, because not everybody like to slide the screen up for something simple... or put it in portrait for the matter.
I found out that GoKeyboard will work in landscape.
However, when I used it it kept trying to auto-correct into chinese or something... anyways, give it a try.
also, GoLauncher is AMAZING with smooth maximus rom
I'm rooted, would smooth maximus allow me to use landscape soft keyboards? Also, I just had a thought and went into the system directory, and under system/usr, I found folders labeled keychars and keylayout, with .bin and .kl files inthem with names like qwerty, keypad, touchkey, and so on. Is it possible that modding one of those files could unlock the landscape keyboard?
Landscape soft keyboards were disabled by Samsung by not building them into the firmware, rather than by the rom. We would need to mod the entire firmware, much more in-depth than anything we have currently to be able to have a landscape soft keyboard.
