Switch Fuze to CDMA? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Ok, this may be a dumb question but I found evidence of this as a possibility elsewhere and wanted someone to clear this up for me. I have an AT&T Fuze. We are looking at switching to the Sprint network. Will I need to get a new phone, or is there a radio flash that can be used to make the change?
Forgive my newbie question. I'm still learning!
Thanks!

nope sorry you can not use a gsm phone on a cdma network.

cant: this is in hardware, not software

Well that was easy enough.
Next, if I purchase a used, unlocked Verizon phone, will I be able to use it with Sprint?
Thanks!

my fze shows a cdma option why is that?

No, you will not.. Sprint will not activate any phone they did not sell originally (not model of phone, but physical phone itself)... If it was not originally a Sprint phone that they do not have a record of, it can not be activated EVER on the sprint network.. They are the biggest "jerks" about that...
But on the good news, is just look for a Sprint HTC Touch Pro... it has TWICE the ram that the Verizion TP version has... And there are TONS of them all the time on craigslist... many in excellent condition... My only advice would be is, if you are buying any cellphone on craigslist, agree to only buy it if then will go WITH YOU (or meet you) at a Sprint Retail store, and have the Customer Service guy verify that the phone is not reported lost or stolen... If it is reported lost or stolen by whoever had it registered most recently, you will never be able to activate it on Sprint either...This way protects you in not only do you knwo for sure it is a legit phone, it will stop some seedy people from trying to rob you or anything...
If you go this route, I highly reccoment the NSFAN roms... They are great, well put together roms... They sort of remind me of the Energy roms on the Fuze....
Anyways, hope I was some help!

Thanks, Teej!
I've been watching items on Ebay. That's where I got my Fuze.
Does the Tael ROM work for the Sprint Touch Pro? I have had good luck with it and like the config. What do you like about the NSFAN ROM?

I have never used the Tael Rom, so I can't comment on that one.. buut the NSFAN one is great... I installed the exact same rom on both a US Cellular as well as a Sprint version of the Touch Pro and both "just worked" right out of the box... it is very finger friendly... has on all the little features and tweaks to a settings liek I would have them set.. The programs that come with it are very useful.. It looks good... and runs pretty quickly it seems as well... I have installed tomTom on it, and it also just "worked" out of the box without any special GPS configuration... and it locks on in like 30 seconds! We also have a fuze, and that one seems to takes 3 or 4 min, both from a cold start, started at the same time in the same car... (we compaired them many times)... Batterys seems to last about 2 days on typical use... It also seems to be very stable....
Hope I have helped....

AT&T Fuze vs Unlocked Touch Pro

If there was already a discussion about this I'm sorry. Apparently I suck at using the search feature...
I've wanted this phone for what feels like forever and will be given this as an early Christmas present in the next week, due to the issues of my failing Tilt. I can't decide if I should get the AT&T Fuze (I have AT&T now) or an unlocked version of the Touch Pro. I know it's the "same" phone but I also know the software/features differ. I tried to compare the two in the HTC Wiki but I know I can get much more useful information here.
1. Which unit would you recommend and what would I be giving up/gaining from either? I know the unlocked wouldn't have the AT&T specific software, not sure if that's good or bad.
2. Does the Fuze have a "flash" for the camera? Also, which unit has the better camera? It seems that the TP has more features, but slightly less MP.
3. Do they both support A2DP?
4. Frequencies confuse me! Quad-band, tri-band... bottom line which unit is faster & do they both support 3G (American version)?
5. Am I able to get Hotmail directly on either the Fuze or TP? Or is there software that enables me to? I'm running one of Dutty's fabulous ROMs on my Tilt now and love that I'm able to get Hotmail!
Sorry if any of these questions seem stupid- I'm fairly new at this & every time I turn around the new technology is way over my head! Any input/opinions/answers are greatly appreciated in helping me make a decision. Thanks!
Everythink is almost identical between the two except that the Fuze doesn't have the front camera and ATT customized it the way they wanted. They both support A2DP and Windows Live will get you Hotmail.
ok wow.. theyre exactly the same; except for one important aspect; the touch pro wont work on at&t 3G. there are other small cosmetic differences, and a different keyboard layout. yes the software is different, but thats not an issue, as u can flash any rom u want. in conclusion, get the fuze if u want to US 3G. do a google search next time please, these questions have been answered multiple times

Thanks for the info. I don't want to get my email via the web, which is why I asked. I want to be able to set it up the same way you can with yahoo or gmail.
Do you know if the Fuze has a "flash" for the camera. It isn't listed anywhere and I can't tell from any of the pictures.

I was hoping to not have to flash a rom to my phone this time. I guess no one will ever make a phone I'll be completely happy with right out of the box!
The answer to the 3G question pretty much made my decision then...

Internet Connection dies on Sprint TP2, necessitating hard-reset, 4X in 10 days

I received my Touch Pro2 on 11/3, since then the internet has ceased working and forced me to do a hard-reset FOUR TIMES. If anyone has any ideas, opinions or otherwise I'd like to hear them.
I have a ticket open with Sprint Tech Support so I can go into the store and get another one, but I have two fears on this, that either they will not have it, or all they will have are refurbs to replace my brand new TP2.
If a list of software on the phone would help please let me know, I'll be more than happy to list it all out.
Thanks
Maybe a solution!
go to www.ppcgeeks.com then Touch Pro 2 CDMA, and get the lates Energy Rom, it's blazing fast, and on the same forum look for the radio tread and the the lates Sprint modified radio, that will get you faster conections.
Posted from my Sprint Touch Pro2 4G
I actually did that the other day, but I can't seem to figure a few things out... To begin with I can't figure out where the latest radio is. Also I really don't like the "finger friendly" file explorer and outlook mobile, I'd imagine there's a way to disable it. I used to use a couple of memory tweaks, I can't help but wonder if they'd work on EnergyROM... Any chance you can help and or direct me to the right place on any of those? I search high and low but come up with nothing.
Thanks

Does your TP2 Lock Up like this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9W7Kfucgeck
I've hard reset it like advised and haven't installed any 3rd party apps.
After I wait a few hours, the phone will start to respond, but will be significantly sluggish.
I believe I should have posted this in the general section (Not sure, I'm fairly new to these forums)

I think it's time you bring it to your local Verizon store and show them. Tell them "Look, I turn on the phone, and I can't use it!" I'm guessing they're smart enough to realize you need a replacement because that's not normal. I'm sure they'll give you another replacement.
If they don't, flash a ROM and see if it works. If everything works with the custom ROM, then it was obviously a Verizon stock ROM flaw (which I doubt since this doesn't seem common).
Yea, I had to pay for my first replacement ($50)
I hear the official 6.5 is out, where can I find that?
Also, I don't know the first thing about flashing phones with custom ROMs

Pshh.. they gave you a faulty one now, so you shouldn't have to pay for the next replacement!
Officially, WM6.5 for the TP2 is for the Unlocked GSM European TP2. It's only for GSM networks, though (you have CDMA, so you can't flash that!).
Custom ROM flashing: I learned from a pictorial. Just follow everything! Always flash a CDMA Rhodium/TP2 ROM (you can find those at PPCGeeks) to your Verizon/Sprint/Telus TP2.
Most ROMs are not going to be suited for your phone (keyboard), so some fixes are found here.
Some of the famous CDMA ROMs are MightROMs and EnergyROMs. Find one that suits you!
*CDMA = Sprint/Verizon/Telus
GSM = Unlocked/Tilt2/T-Mobile* ROMs are made specifically for one network, and a particular device. So, never flash a GSM ROM onto a CDMA phone, and never flash a TP1 ROM to a TP2.
Good luck!

Actually, the US Cellular TP2 also comes with 6.5. If you don't have a US Cellular phone though, you still can't flash it and will need a custom rom.
Wow, you guys are extremely helpful over here.
So I should flash it, or ask for a new one?

I heard about that. However, like you said, it wouldn't be great with a Verizon phone since I doubt there's an official ROM floating around (there would be a ROM dump on PPCGeeks) but why would anyone want a stock ROM to replace a stock ROM?!

Ask for a new one first because we don't know if the issue you have is due to faulty hardware or software. If it's hardware, a new ROM can't do anything. If it was software or firmware(ROM), then a new ROM should be able to fix it.
If you ever need to return the phone and it has a custom ROM, you will have to re-flash the stock ROM found at thewingster. You will then have to follow the steps to return stockSPL (very bottom of the post). If you don't do these return-to-stock steps, Verizon wouldn't accept it!
Got my new one in the maill today, for free.
Thanks guys.

I'm guessing wait 'til the weekend arrives. Use the phone hardcore! If anything goes wrong with it for the next few days, at least you can return it again.
If you're truly desperate, I guess you could flash!
lol there's hardcore ways to use our phone? I thought it was bad-ass all around.
Is there an ETA of when Verizon's TP2 6.5 is suppose to arrive? I thought it was December/January :\
It's out... check out the thread over at PPC Geeks.
Got it. Thanks

Non radio rom?

I had the idea the other day that it might be nice to have a rom for the hero with the phone parts stripped out. I plan to upgrade to the Evo in a couple of months but thought I'd still want to use my hero in an ipod touch kinda way. Maybe this is a stupid idea, but I thought I'd through it out there. Seems like the logical next step for discontinued phones. Anyway....

Just buy the new $160 android tablet from K-mart and sell me your old hero
why is this necessary? if you disconnect it from your plan the phone won't work. if you enable wifi and its connected it won't bother trying to talk to the mobile network for data. The modem will be in standby mode for voice calls but that shouldn't eat much power. If you don't need data turn on airplane mode.
Just delete the apks for phone stuff, phone.apk mms.apk etc etc..
Airplane mode.
I'm actually surprised that there isn't a clear-cut method for turning off *just* the cellular radio.
I guess I didn't think about airplane mode (which is a good idea) but, I guess I was more talking about removing the all the phone stuff like the third poster above said. If you think about it, pretty soon there is going to be a whole lot of mini computers dying a slow death in peoples junk drawers. A lot of these use the same processors, if you removed the cellular element, how many phones could a rom run on? I don't know, but someone on here knows. Like I said, this might just be a lame idea, I spend a large amount of time driving at work, so I have plenty of stupid idea time.
nevermind my genpad is bricked

that's something I reaaaaaally miss from my WinMo days...
+1 to the idea. Whenever we get new phones, the other one is left to rot, just because it can't function as a phone anymore, even though there's so much more to it. I have a collection of old Treos and Blackberrys, along woth a Palm Pilot or two, which still work perfectly, minus the cellular radio.

Potentially HUGE BUYER'S REMORSE!?

Hey guys and gals, Please advise.
I've been a Sprint customer for 2 years my contract is up. Had an HTC hero which was an amazing phone considering it's age.
I bought 2 VM phones; the optimus V for the wife, and the Motorola Triumph for me. Owneed them both for 12 hours and I'm a bit concerned.
I've rooted them both and removed some bloat. I looked online and see nothing but praise for the optimus V and the MT looks like a lemon based on reviews! I noticed some lag on the touchscreen (I tried to ignore it but the killer is the GPS, the optimus found location in 5 seconds, and the MT was still searching after 5 minutes.
Should I return this thing? Is it a software problem or hardware? Will a custom ROM help?
Please tell me if i should exchange it for the optimus.
Had the same feeling back in August when I purchased the phone. Do yourself a favor and install CM7. You will notice an insane difference; it’s more like owning an entirely different phone. That thing they call an operating system that’s installed out of the box is an insult to both the user and the phones hardware which is actually very good. It took me a few weeks to get the guts to install the Rom but it came to either that or throw the thing in the Delaware. Now a days you could not rip the device from my cold dead hands. I use the TG reloaded build and if you’re not familiar with Roms CM7 is for the most part the closest thing you can get to striate up Google's Gingerbread with a few tweaks and no Virgin Bloatware. Anyhow with the correct software the Triumph is a beast and runs circles around some of my friends higher end phones using their stock Roms. Also, the processor used on the Triumph is used in other devices as a 1.4g processors, including a few tablets so don’t be afraid to crank it up a notch or two. Also the TG Reloaded edition uses a 64 MHz minimum frequency when idle compared to the 246 MHz minimum used in the stock Rom, literally doubles the battery life.
Yes, give the CM7 TG-Reloaded ROM a try. The Motorola Triumph is based on Huawei Ideos X6 reference design, which is sold as different variants world-wide. The hardware is very capable, but either the Motorola people or those responsible for getting it to work on VM were very sloppy, so all the bugs in stock ROM. Most have been addressed in CM7, but still some remain.
As for the better battery life, the 61 mhz low freq helps only a little, other factors include less junk running in the background, battery-optimized interactive governor, and wakelock bugs in the stock kernel that prevent phone from entering deep sleep mode (common, but hard to track problem on a lot of Android phones).
I love my MT running miui [email protected] there's a agps fix somewhere on this site. I personal don't have any issues with this phone

Thanks for the replies.
I agree that CM7 makes this phone waaaayyy smoother than stock. I still get an occasional lag on the touchscreen and the 4 "buttons" on the bottom are sometimes unresponsive; but this thing is awesome. The only reason the Optimus V is more popular is because it's cheaper. The MT is sexy :^)
The thing I miss from my HTC Hero was the ease of wireless tethering. I didn't really use it much, but it was nice to know I could run any piece of hardware without any mods.
Does the CM7 TG reloaded ROM have an OC kernel built in or do I need to flash one?

I may be close to fixing the touchscreen issue, it bugs me too. CM7 allows built-in wireless tethering, and you can add it to be a quick toggle in the notification bar, along with other options. OC kernel is built-in, check out the first post on the ROM thread to read up about all the features.

I was really excited when you said the CM7 native wifi tether worked...but I couldn't get it to
I even factory reset and wiped everything to make sure it was a fresh attempt. Still nothing. Both my PC and Hp touchpad can find the signal but neither connect/keep the connection. After attempting the connection (and saying it's connected for around 3 seconds) the touchpad will no longer reads the wifi signal.
Any threads on this for me to research? I looked to no avail.

VM doesn't support 3rd party Voicemails so getting a visual one may not work... You can ask VM about it and see if they can let you but it may just be a network thing with them...
And the MT is in a low activity section because no one is here there all at android forums...
Triumph has a few hardware issues that won't go away, like GPS and touch response puking randomly.
Also while CM7 does bring extra functionality, it is less stable than stock.
Optimus V is basically the only solid prepaid phone on VM.
Hopefully Sprint learned their lesson to not rebrand POS phones and instead, use existing phones that have proven themselves. We will likely see much better phones by end of 2012 based on what was said at CES '12, so just hang tight.

Yea... by the end of 2012, well its the beginning right now and if they don't start getting newer phones, I may have to switch to another company... I heard Straight Talk is getting the LG Optimus 2X so that may be incentive enough for me. VM needs to get a dual core and not just keep bringing in more and more phones that have 600mhz or 800mhz processors with 3 inch screens...

Yeah that phone looks really promising, but ST is expensive - paying $25 on VM vs $45 for ST, unless you need the higher end plan on VM anyway.
If you're willing to go high end, you can grab a Nexus/GS2 and use it on tmobile's prepaid instead, it's what I'm doing current with TMO's $30/mo plan.

That's what I've heard. If you buy a used/unlocked TMO phone, you can get the TMO activation kit for something like $7 ( it's just a SIM ) and put it in your phone and your good.
This is what I'm thinking about doing myself. I get ok coverage with VM on my LGOV, but not great.
My wife has a TMO Exhibit2-4g and it's a great phone and the service is good as well. She's on the $50/month plan, I'll opt for the $30 I think.
