If you are one of the lucky few that owns a Samsung Captivate, please post your impressions of it here. I know only one person that reported ui lag on the captivate so far but the galaxy s forum is swarming with them. Also a gps poll over there indicated that many users were experiencing unsavory searching times and bad signals.
Share good and bad impressions here please.
p.s. a video of UI lag would be most appreciated so others can see what you are talking about and compare their own results.
From the videos that I have seen, occasionally there is some UI lag but it doesn't appear to be real bad. If you install another desktop launcher the phone is quicker so to me it doesn't matter. I could care less if I use touchwiz.
As far as the GPS... I don't know. It'll be interesting to find out though.
go to Androidforums.com to see all of the videos. They have a thread going with everything.

wow great coverage there, Thanks!. Is the little hickup when transitioning from one screen to another by swiping the "ui lag" that peeps are talking about? Dont get me wrong, i could see how i that could get annoying, especially since this phone deff has the hardware to run smoother than butter on a hot summer day..
Still thats not as bad as i hear some people make it out to sound. Maybe some users experience exceptionally high lag? But you say the diff desktop launcher takes care even of that tiny hickup?
I ask so much because im trying to make an informed purchasing decision .

The Androidforums.com have blown up with post since the captivate was announced. You should go read some of the details over there. AndroidandMe also has a video of the different desktops and yes they clear up the lag.
I havn't seen major lag on the captivate in any of the videos posted but I have seen some sluggish UI Experience on occasion. I'm not worried about it all because of the different desktops that you can download from the android market.
Samsung is suppose to be working on a fix as this is a software issue not a hardware issue. Who knows... Maybe Android 2.2. will fix it.
<3. Thats all i have to say.
Now for the record... Is this the most powerful phone on the market right now or what?
I cant find any references to where another phone beats this phone at anything (battery life excluded, haven't seen any info on that) except for that 2d stuff from the droid (which is touted to be meaningless anyway)...
Re: GPS - of all the video reviews of GPS aquisition on the Galaxy S, the speed was as fast or faster than other devices (running Android or iOS), so it should not be a problem. I will report back on the 18th or 19th after I get my Samsung Captivate.
thanks, OKMFT. Really looking forward to your input. I think the GPS is the only thing thats really troubling me now.
I just got to play with this phone in a local ATT store. I do kinda see what the OP was saying. I had an Aria in one hand and the Captivate in the other. The Aria seemed really smooth in transition while the Captivate was fast but seemed jittery. I think it may be more of a trick to the eye because the background moves just a little when you swipe the windows. Otherwise, every app I played with, email, internet, everything was really fast and sharp. The camera takes great pics with very little zoom time (unlike my HTC HD). The phone itself seems well built and extremely light weight. Overall I left very impressed and am planning to pick it up this weekend.
thnx 4 postin that here too. u didnt get a chance to play with the gps too by ne chance did you?
I unfortunately did not get a chance. I only had a couple minutes with it as the sales guy didn't want anyone else to see it because they were apparently not even supposed to have the device yet.
oh wow, nice job then!
I purchased one late Friday afternoon (after having been previously denied by two other stores and several other salespeople), and have taken it running, walking, and driving (using "Runner," "GPS Status," and Google Maps and Navigation).
I have found that it seems overall slower and less secure in GPS signal acquisition than my previous phones (iPhone 4, 3Gs, 3G) but is on par with my old Samsung Blackjack II. It took a while sometimes to get a signal and occasionally lost it when it had a reasonably good view of the sky (especially in car navigation). That being said, the iPhones weren't perfect either and all had trouble at times, so for me, it was just a little aggravating rather than a deal-breaker. Even though I didn't get instant gratification with Captivate's GPS, it never let me down for long and then was able to pick up the signal.
There've been a number of GPS fixes suggested over at Android Forums in the Galaxy S and Captivate areas...take a look and see if any work for you (oh, and report back!).
Summary: this phone is fast and snappy if you adequately manage running programs and widgets, and the GPS is kind of slow at times but not unusable.

Also, this phone is blazing fast except when too much stuff is churning away in the background. ATK takes care of that.
(Sorry for the duplicate post, as I accidentally posted this originally in the wrong thread and couldn't figure out how to delete it).
just got the phone. Stock just out of the box. I used gps with google maps on the way home. Got a lock in the few seconds it took me to load the map. Gps was flawless all the way home.
i'll let you know if anything changes.
Have had mine since Thursday evening. GPS is slow for me, I haven't actually put it to use yet so not sure how it performs after acquiring signal, I've tried a few of the suggestions in different forums, switching it to network service does seem to help.
As far as the UI, I actually considered returning the phone. Coming from a 3gs I was suprised how little difference there was at first. Then, after using it for a few days found it actually slowed down (adv task killer was one of the first apps I installed and I use it regularly)
However, per a suggestion from someone I installed LauncherProBeta and used it instead of Touch Wiz, what a difference. I mean really it's a different phone now. There are a few other fixes I'll do once I get a new SD card too that should help.

Picked up mine at local BB this morn at when they opened! Went from 3gs to this and so far please.
Now only probably I have is since 1100am central time I tried GPS and can't connect. Longest I have left it trying was the 30min drive home. No luck just a crazy icon in status bar that wont connect.
First Droid so I'm new to anymods so it could just be me. Been at this forum since Moto days and love it
This. Launcher pro beta fixed all lag. As for gps, mine catches in 5 to 10th seconds. I experimented with location settings and some were detrimental. Try turning all gps related stuff on or just play with those options to see if any help
It only happen twice so for but when typing a sms or email the letter "i" would not respond. Try to capitalize it and still nothing. All other letters/keys worked. Restarted my phone and it worked fine again.
Any thoughts? Phone is a week old and NOT rooted.

I've noticed this twice when sending texts, different letters each time (I think "I" once and "S" once). I didn't have to restart though, after finishing my message, the next message I tried to type it was working again.
Humm, you think maybe installing a different keyboard may help. I noticed they have several in the market.
I've noticed this too. You can turn the phone to landscape and it will be fixed or you can just back out and go back into messages and it will be fixed. It seems to be a little quirk with the built in HTC keyboard.. someone should bring it to the attention of HTC.
I went ahead and down loaded Better Keyboard. So for it seems a lot nicer than the stock one. Will have to wait and see if it acts up like the stock board.
Thank goodness I saw this thread, I was about to return my phone out of anger. LOL. I thought it was a touchscreen issue, but it's clearly a software issue, because when it happens to me I reboot and it works fine, so that eliminates hardware.
It's super annoying tho... right in the middle of a text a key will stop working... all the keys around it work fine, and it's random places, just annoying.
What's the best alternative full keyboard ya'll use?
Like I said "Better keyboard 8" its in the market. I researched the top rated and Better Keyboard was rated pretty good. It had the most consistent good reviews.
So for i am liking it a lot better than the stock.

Just downloaded it... so far feels a lot more responsive. Thanks!
Ugh, thought the keyboard install fixed it, but it didn't... random letters won't press at random times. Reboot fixes it.
Not sure why it's giving me this trouble, I can't imagine it's a hardware issue since a reboot fixes it. Suggestions?
So for mine has not done it yet. Keep us posted if you find a solution....
this has gotten to be a real serious problem for me - hanging up with my face while on a call. i am surprised this isn't talked about more here. any help would be appreciated! is it possible for the dev's to not only remove the end call button but the mute as well?
so far you are the only one that has ever reported anything like that,ya know it could be a hardware defekt
sent via my bamfed out tbolt
Nope I'm in the same boat as im sure are many others. I have only ever had it actually impact me I think twice on phone calls out of almost a hundred or so that I have had since I purchased the phone. All the others times though it was extremely annoying to keep hearing the click sounds of the screen turning on and off on and off on and off etc.
I keep hoping for a software update that addresses the sensitivity of the sensor, but still no
I also wonder how much the battery is affected by the screen turning on and off repeatedly while in a phone conversation...
I get the same. More on my right ear than my left, but it will often take a digit that I just typed for an automated system and try to dial it, resulting in an alarm tone in my ear during the conversation.
sorry but i have 3 different bolts, the 1st one was rooted stock had that problem but it also went into the brick loop so it got replaced, rooted that one but never had the prob again, this one has the bamf 2 prev 3 on it and no probs that is why i suggested harware cause my first one had major hardware issues
sent via my bamfed out tbolt
i get it too. but i dont call so much. so i dont really care lol
I too had this problem, and did some quick searching on Google. Stumbled upon someone who said to spray it with canned air to clean it out. To my surprise, it worked. There is just enough room between the screen and the body of the phone for dust/crap to get in and it hinders both the light and proximity sensors.
You might be holding the phone in a weird position?
THUNDERBOLT
Damn, you lean something new every day, this thing makes phone calls too!
I've had the issue too recently. But it only started when I returned the last phone to stock. Before that, I had a small issue with it, but it didn't happen often.

I have the screen turn on during calls, but I've never had a face hang up. Honestly I think the screen turns on for me, but can't be interacted with.
Scratch that just did a test. I guess I'm lucky. Then again I don't hold the phone flat to my face. So I guess I would never hit it...
i have had hangups, the mute button pressed, and a 3 way call started. i just tried blowing the screen out with some compressed air as someone suggested. it seems better - will give an update after some testing.
No issues with hang ups for me. Had that problem all the time coming from the X.

I have the same problem and have had it with every Rom I've run and stock. I'm surprised we don't have a way to adjust the proximity sensor yet, that's something I really miss about my Droid X.
After answering a call and putting the tb to my ear, my screen stays on.
Sometimes my ear dials numbers, sometimes the screen stays illuminated but doesn't respond to any touch! I have to toggle the screen on/off with the power button to get the touch response working again.
I have never had an issue. Been on mostly whatever the latest bamf release since rooting.
It happens to me whenever I forget the bluetooth especially after working out or anytime facial area is warmer then normal. I have a screen protector and clean the screen frequently.
I am having the same issue, so I called Verizon yesterday and they are sending me a new phone. I hope it works, because it makes talking on the bolt almost impossible.

this is the first I am hearing of this. No problems for me.
Have the same problem...its really annoying man....will not get a refurbished unit until they fix the reboots
I don't have privileges to post on the android development section, so I'll post it here.
Pros: The rom is quite stable
Fantastic battery life
Extremely smooth and fast
Cons: Like most custom roms, picture mail does not work
For some reason the rom jacked up the volume levels on the ringer and the regular phone, so if you have the ringer turned all the way up, it'll probably blow your speaker pretty quickly.. And the phone volume is all messed up.. Even if it's all the way down, when you first make a call, it cranks all the way up
LTE does not work at all, and 3G hardly works. Basically I'm only getting internet if I'm on WiFi. I've tried changing the Mobile Data settings, but they don't stick.
If you spell something wrong with the keyboard, when you try to use "autocorrect" it force closes the messaging app
Bluetooth is not really usable
All in all, I really do like this ROM, however I am gonna flash back to stock because this ROM is just not usable as a daily driver yet.. Great effort though.. Hopefully it gets fine tuned in the future.

I'm still locked from dev posting as well which is a real shame since I'm a power user who loves to do dangerous experiments with expensive electronics, lol, From what your review says this sounds like a ROM i will definitely be avoiding(surprised I haven't actually tried it though lol). Cyanogen mods (or CM based mods) seem to be the clear winner for me personally. Am glad that you shared this though because I was contemplating trying a few more new ones but got a little new-rom shy after the fiasco that BAM rel turned out to be. I've come to develop a healthy respect for the difference in skill level of the developers here. Not saying PA is untalented because clearly they have a lot of it, just saying I'm much more wary now^^
There are a few silly issues I'm having with the phone and I just want to find out if anything can be done, for my sanitys sake.
I hate the way the screen lights up when I plug my headphones in.
I hate the fact that the countdown timer will vibrate only in vibrate mode (unlike my M7 which made a noise) but when not in vibrate mode it was only make a noise. I guess it makes sense if you think about it, but to me, its nonsense. I want it to vibrate AND make a sound in either mode, hell I'd even take sound+vibrate in ringer on mode at this point. So I can be listening to music and the timer goes off (in vibrate mode) and if I don't feel the vibration in my pocket, tough. Hard to explain, but I have to call back to the HTC M7, it didn't do this, it worked.
I hate the way that the alarm clock has increasing volume only once. If you snooze the phone, the next time the alarm goes off, it goes off full blast, no increasing volume.
I've been using XtreStoLite Deo-Mod Edition 2.4 rom with a week or so now and it's great. But I have noticed some issues which really worry me. I got this phone because it's fast. But when I press the power button there is a definate delay until the screen lights up and Facebook messenger for reasons unknown makes the phone unusable, it lags so bad and even the soft keys don't work. Never did this on other phones and my partners non-rooted S6 is fine.
It does make me wonder, is all this rooting and custom ROM worth it. So far, I've got odd lag and an app which nearly breaks the phone. If I could adblock and restore apps without rooting, I think I would unroot.
Then sell it and be happy
What is your question exactly then?

Can we automate it so your response is posted for every thread talking about issues with this phone?
My Question is, are any of my issues "fixable". I know xposed could do a lot of things for the M7. Is there something I've missed which can help me with my issues?

Chill i was making a joke
Have you tried full wipe? Or completely unroot to stock? Then back?
I have.
My Mrs has a unrooted stock S6 which I use for comparison.
The lag issues and issue with Messenger are only my phone, the isues I have with the screen lighting up with headphones plugged in and the alarm clock, we both share those.
I know the lag and messenger issue could be fixed by going back to stock, but this is the problem with custom roms and rooting. You get given nice features and you risk losing them all when going back to stock. I can live without messenger and the wake up lag I can just put up with, but it isn't right. I guess in truth I expected too much from this phone, I wanted it to be blazing fast and it just doesn't feel it.
There isn't a great range of roms either, my M7 had literally dozens of roms to try but I find with the S6, there are like only a handful.
