You can have stock SPL and keep S-OFF. Security off doesn't mean you have tampered with the software and they could not void your warranty because of this. The old updates did not have S-ON; they had S-OFF and most employees of cell phone providers don't even know what this means or what an SPL is.
Extract the rom.zip file from the RUU and rename the file to SAPPIMG.zip. Put the file on an SD card and boot to HBOOT. Should be able to update. There are some tutorials on the forum.

but it doesnt update. hboot doesnt search file called update

SAPPIMG.zip
Sorry, lol.
If anything, you could just flash a custom BOOT if you can like Amon's and try to flash a custom ROM -- but if you still want S-ON then HBOOT is the way to go if you can not start your phone.

yeah, so i have wrong file. now searching how to extract. really thanks for advices

Don't have the wrong file, just take the same rom.zip file and rename to SAPPIMG.zip.

i dont have an original rozm.zip, extracted file. i took zip with hboot, boot and radio.

Get one by downloading an RUU you want; download an RUU, when setup is running, dig through some folders to get the rom.zip and copy that to your desktop and use that .zip to update your phone.

Ive done this, but hboot doesnt want to update

Can anyone help me, returning to s-off?

[Testing] Flash 1.76.2007 Engineering SPL over 1.76.0007 Perfected SPL

Something to try if you're stuck with 1.76.0007 SPL... There is no harm in trying. If it works, great! If not, then you're no worse off...
Make sure your radio version is 6.35.07.29 by entering FASTBOOT mode. (Back + Power). If it's not 6.35.07.29, don't continue.
Download this update and save to your SD as update.zip
http://content.modaco.net/hero/update-hero-hboot-1.76.2007-signed.zip
Boot your phone into HTC recovery mode using Home and Power.
Press Home and End to bring up the recovery console.
Choose the option to "Apply sdcard:update.zip"
If this is successful, it will apply the update then bring you back into the recovery mode. Turn off your phone, then boot into FASTBOOT using Back and Power. See if your HBOOT version is now 1.76.2007.
We might be on to something here...
This seems to be what's happening when people try this...
Code:
E:No signature (5 files)

That means that the Engineering SPL can't be flashed over the stock SPL.
Oh well, it was worth a shot.
Does anyone else have any ideas?
Dude nice one but what's the success rate? I'm willing to try this **** but i need more input from you, like has anyone successfully flashed it and in case it bricks my phone and it prolly will, can i overwrite it with an official Sense TW/HK/SG RUU and will it bring my Magic back from the dead?
EDIT: Got ya. Looks like it is still work in progress...
Guru, what's about thing to replace HBoot to Eng HBoot in rom.zip while RUU wait to get processed ?
It's so crazy, but ... why not?
I'm gonna compare by Hex-editor original Hero Hboot, Eng hero Hboot and original magic Hboot...
Update at 14:29 (GMT +3)
Good news:

Hboot from RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.38_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver

Bad news:
Eng Hboot from Modaco is quite different than stock HBoots
So it is NOT a hex-patch. It is fully engineering Hboot.
As there is one new eng Hboot for Hero, so a new one HBoot for Magic exists... but where?)

Nice anyway , if some one wants to have the new radio and be able to flash the new sense using fastboot maybe it should work to flash hboot with HBoot from RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.61_WWE_test_signed_NoDri ver and then flash the new radio and go on with flashing the rest...
The NEW ENG.SPL is not useful unless we get it in form of a signed sappimg.zip , here comes the big question Do Modaco has the new hero SPL in a signed by htc sappimg.zip ? if he has it then we are all set

The whole point to running a 1.76 ENG HBOOT is to be able to run Hero ROMs and the new Sapphire 32A Sense ROMs without modifying them to the current 1.33 HBOOT partition table. And I'm quite sure that the 6.35 radio doesn't run well with a 1.33 HBOOT.
The HBOOT defines the partitioning of the NAND and the new Sense ROMs can't be flashed onto the partition table defined by a 1.33 HBOOT.

I don't think we'll be able to directly flash this SPL over top of the 1.76.0007 perfected SPL.
We need to find a way to get a rooted recovery image on this phone. Through the same means that the Android Recovery Flasher or the Relentless Rooter would flash the recovery image.
Unfortunately, at this point there is no way of getting root priveledges on these ROMs.

Tks for ur work first.
Try to flash the eng. 2007spl directly over 0007, official signature is the point, but almost unbreakable?
I tried to flash 2.53RUU (with eng. 2010spl), surely, it said the main version older and aborted. So can we just modify version info in the official RUU to cheat version check? Maybe...

Radio

Im rooted. S-off. Running Coredroid. Ive changed the radio before but now it wont let me... even with PD98IMG on sd card, and with hack kit.
Stuck on
12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M
And ideas as to why im not able to change my radio?
more info please? is the PD98IMG.zip being recongized in hboot? or do you actually get it to flash and then it doesn't change?

Ok, sounds like you downloaded a file that wasn't in the right format to just drop it on the SDcard and boot into hboot. Lucky for us there is an easy way to do this. Go to this thread. Download the radio and corresponding RIL file. Put both on the SDcard and boot into hboot. I assume you will check the md5 sum numbers just to be sure you aren't going to flash a corrupt/bad radio file. . Everything you need is in that linked thread. RIL is easy to flash too, if you haven't done that before. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine. Good luck!

Ah, okay well I'm not 100% sure now if being eng s-off is going to mess with the bootloader method as described in my previous post and that thread as I'm only s-off and my experience has only got me to this point since I had a lot of trouble with radio flashing when I first started..I'm sure someone else will chime in on how to get you right on track..I know there are quite a bit of threads out there that walk you through flashing a radio with eng s-off though if you find yourself in desperate need before someone can help you out! Sorry man I couldn't be more of service to you
Thanks for the help.

Last night I unlocked the bootloader n been having the same problem but mind say S-on n I don't know what's next

where you rooted?
why did you flash the IMG.zip?
if you unlocked it then go to fastboot and make your CID 11111
and hopefully that will get you back on where you wanted to do?
cant give much help unless you give some details on what was your state of phoen before and what you wanted to do with it

I have similar problem, hboot 1.20, was S-OFF, flashed orig RUU ICS,changed CID to HTC___001 than I made stupid mistake and changed back to S-ON (wanted to send my phone to the shop, problems with reception and sound quality) now only ROM that my phone accepts is LeeDroid 5.01, cant change cid to supercid via fastboot some error SMART_IO.CRD not found on sdcard. Tried to flash orig RUU (1.45, 1.29, ICS etc.) error 155 when hboot is locked and error 132 signarure error when relocked. Also tried changing android-info.txt to my cid and mid no luck, tried flashing via RUU and bootloader no luck.

Sorry to reply so late.
Previously, my phone was eng s-off and got super cid.
After i flash ICS firmware, bootloader was then locked.
After that i did some stupid things, the bootloader turned into "locked", "security warning" and s-on. I succeeded to unlock bootloader by htcdev and get rid of "security warning", at that time i can boot into recovery normally and wipe or flash roms. But it just can't boot into system. I tried fastboot commands to flash but failed just because "it is not allowed in the remote devices".
i tried PG58IMG files but the bootloader shows no image or wrong image.
Can you give me some advice? Thank you very much

My phone had been rooted and end s-off before things happened.
i flash IMG.zip to try to flash a rom( Somebody post that ICS rom can be flash by IMG.zip) or fix the bootloader problem. It's almost the only way to flash a rom for me
I checked the cid and it is still 11111111(Got super cid before) although bootloader is s-on.
Now the state of the bootloader is
1, unlocked
2,s-on
3,cid is 11111111
4,can boot into recovery
5,can't install PG58IMG.zip
6,fastboot command can't write anyting
7,if flash some rom, phone will be stuck at the splash screen which seems splash partition is writable
Thank you!

i don't know how to do either, but during solving my problem, i found something may be useful. If you want to unlock bootloader you can try htcdev. This can't s-off but just unlock bootloader.
And since your hboot is 1.20, you can try the zip file attached by this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20681060&postcount=22.
Because my hboot is 1.23 and isn't supported according to the above link, i didn't know whether it will help or not. You can take it into consideration
Hope you can solve your problem
ok find hboot 1.17 PD58IMG.zip, your truly not s-on, format your sdcard, then place the img in sdcard, and boot into bootloader, and you should be able run fastboot commands, you should still have custom recovery right?

I format the sdcard in fat32 format and place img that revert to hboot 1.17 in sdcard. Reboot into bootloader, but it shows "no image or wrong image".
I also try fastboot command but i don't know the command format. Would you give me an example please? Just a fastboot command to install img no matter s-on or s-off. Such as "fastboot flash hboot hboot.img".
My device is now s-on.

Hi,
Yes,when updating OTA seems to put 1.27.0000 on your phone.
There is currently no revolutionary support for 1.27.0000
But we are told that it may be arriving soon.
Yes, that is the reason. You should have s-off before upgrading to ICS. What you can do is to extract a ROM from a GB RUU rename it PG58IMG and flash it from bootloader.
It will bring you back to GB and can use revolutionary to s-off, then upgrdade again to ICS.
Thanks alot guys. Think I will wait for that update from the Revolutionairy team though.
Next thing
Just to ask again. Is the only way to S-off and thereby root to do as kualmente posted?

Actually Revolutionary doesn't support Hboot 1.27 then you cannot use it to s-off.
As said before you can try flashing from bootloader a GB Rom in PG58IMG form and see if it works. If it works (not sure 100% because you are s-on) you will be back to GB with Hboot 1.18 which is supported by revolutionary to s-off.
Try and let me know download. Simply rename it PG58IMG and put on the root of your sd card. Then reboot bootloader while pressing volume down + power button. Follow instruction on screen.
When completed and rebooted, delete PG58IMG from sd card.
Hope it works.
P.S. file is still uploading

It won't work anyway. You are s-on and cannot downgrade. You have to wait until hboot 1.27 is supported by revolutionary or the rumored (but completely unproven) new s-off method with the ridiculous name.

Did you try what I suggested in my post #6?
There is no risk to brick. Worst scenario it will fail to update because you are s-on.
Best scenario you will downgrade to GB and proceed to s-off with revolutionary.
At the end this is an official RUU released by HTC and then it cannot be harmful to give a try

Is it this you are referring to? [SOFF] Juopunutbear S-OFF internal testing - HTC Sensation (and XE) 1.23, 1.27 HBoots
hi,
I'm a true noob when it comes to root though i am still trying to do it so i can change this bad asian sensation xe stock ICS Rom.
I updated without knowing I should s-off first
now i understand that i have a few options like waiting for a team to release a hack, or through htcDev but i want to try what kualmente wrote
my problem is that the download link he posted is bad
but i have an official RUU that i downloaded before "RUU_Pyramid_LE_hTC_Asia_TW_1.73.709.4_Radio_10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2_release_221625_signed.exe"
I want to know if it is possible to downgrade HBOOT with this and use revolutionary method for s-off?
My file is not bad at all. It is just in PG58IMG format so it can be flashed from the bootloader (running a RUU.exe would give error).
You have a sensation Xe and of course you need a different RUU. Try to find out the way to extract "rom.zip" from the RUU, rename it PG58IMG and flash it from bootloader.
As said before, not sure 100% if it works because of s-on
By the way HtcDev doesn't s-off but just unlock bootloader.
First thanks for answering

First thanks for answering
i didn't say the file was bad i said the link was bad. I can't download the file I get "file not found".
how do you do that???
And i think i got the right version because before i updated to ICS i updated to 1.77 via OTA and in the zip file it rights the preious version and it is written there "1.73.709.4 CL177617 release-keys" same as the RUU that i have.
UPDATE: got the rom.zip from my RUU and renamed it. now how do i use it? and what will happen to my phone afterwards? will it be like a factory restore?
if so how can i backup my apps or game saves?

Before you start I repeat: I'm not 100% sure it will work because you are S-On.
1) Rename the rom zip in "PG58IMG" and put in the root of sd card (not inside a folder).
2) Untick fastboot from Settings -Power
3) Pull out and reinsert battery.
4) Power on the phone while pressing volume down + power button to reboot into bootloader.
5) when prompted "do you want to update?" say yes by pressing volume up.
6) If it works, will do its things (it takes a while and screen may goes black a couple of times) just dont do anything and wait untill completed.
7) when completed push power button to reboot.
8) Delete PG58IMG from sd card.
Of course you will lose all data and apps unless you make a backup.
just tried and got
Main Version is older!
Update Fail!
it didn't even ask me if to update or not
any other idea?
i did what you wrote
is there a different version i could try?
I've tried almost everything on the forums, there is no way you will be able to downgrade your 1.27 bootloader. We vill have to wait for someone to hack this loader, before we will be able to try custom roms.

Well, you tried at least! If you were S-Off you could downgrade without problems. No other ideas, sorry

Help with HTC Desire S (bricked)

OK, need a bit of help with a Desire S that can only get to HBOOT screen (vol down + power) otherwise it's just a white HTC screen.
Phone is S-ON. HBOOT 0.98.002.
I've tried Revolutionary.io's guide to convert to S-OFF but I just get 'Waiting for Device'. Tried uninstalling HTC drivers then installing again without luck, disabling firewall and AV, still no luck. Kinda given up on that front.
Trying 'fastboot devices', device is recognised, but if I try to flash a recovery ROM from fastboot I get an 'out of memory' error.
I don't know if USB debugging is enabled or not (how can I tell & enable from HBOOT if not)?
I thought about going via HTCDEV and their method, but my HBOOT is at the wrong version (can I upgrade it to V 2.000.2?)
I'm really running out of options now....anything else I can try??? HELPPPP!
Run htc ruu exe file and don't close the windows, find rom.zip in windows temp folder, rename it to PG88IMG.zip ale copy to sdcard. Turn on your phone in hboot mode, rom will be flashed automaticaly.
Or just go to fastboot mode in hboot and then run RUU, should work if you have bootloader locker (relocked).

I couldn't open that, but thanks.
sorry, but I'm really not getting this. I'm looking for a RUU to flash a recovery ROM. When I went to HTC dev, there were all the ROMs for all the different carriers. I don't know what mine is. I tried downloading one for Vodafone, unzipped and searched for RUU.exe but there isn't one.
I need to get to this RUU.exe but dont know how.:crying:
what is a recovery ROM? anyway, people over here at the DS forum has already extracted the radio, Hboot and ROM of official ICS. search around...

I had a bit of progress. I downloaded the latest 4.0 RUU util from HTC Dev, ran it, extracted the ROM.zip and renamed it to PG88IMG.zip, copied it up to the SD card, rebooted the phone into FASTBOOT and the phone recognised it and started installing.
Wahey, I thought, that's it I've cracked it, but then it gets stuck on Updating the bootloader. Stuck for nearly an hour. Tried twice and different SD cards...same thing.
Is this because I'm still S-ON and bootloader is locked, or do you think my internal memory is fried?

You're right, that's the case. Search and you'll see similar cases.

Absolutely irrelevant. He's not flashing anything himself, he's executing RUU which can flash everything.
OK, so how do I enable USB debugging if I can only get into HBOOT? Is there a FASTboot or ADB command that can do it? I think that's what's stopping Revolutionary.

if you read again, he said he was flashing the rom zip after extracting the rom from the RUU

And the difference is?
Sent from my HTC Desire S
FYI - I tried executing the RUU itself, and that just hangs too.
I'm going down the line of toasted internal memory and am now throwing in the towel. Besides I just can't spend any more time on it.
Thanks for all your help.

And what means to flash a RUU? Do you see any RUU running on your phone?
Trying to help people is a good thing but not before trying the stuff yourself, knowing the differences, how it works and WHY it should be done

When i followed your step, this has many time to wait. I'm waiting 45 minute but this just show:
Can you help me?
Do you have recovery? Can you get in? If you can fastboot then flash recovery and try to get in.Once in try to open info or just try to wipe all (no SD card) then you will see bricked or not.
