Best Phone For Girlfriends? - General Questions and Answers

I'm in the market to buy something functional with a little flash for the girlfriend. I personally love my Touch Pro II, but I'm used to flashing/updating/dealing with the device, and I'm looking for something a little more rugged and friendly for her use.
Preferably WinMo, Phone edition would be fine
Physical keyboard, since she texts me almost constantly, and I think she would enjoy the upgrade
Non-slider
Basic camera is fine
AT&T
I've looked at the Palm Treo Pro, the HTC Maple, and the Samsung Jack, none of which really sold me, am I missing a killer phone for this segment?
Thanks! -Ian

That's a pretty tough decision...
I think WM is not very friendly, maybe you should consider buying an Android phone for her.
So for example the Motorola Droid? You'll have to unlock it though.
I think the Touch pro 2 is still the best decision, adding a nice theme to it would make it look good for your girlfriend.

Just for her
Buy the lovely one she most like.
Sometimes man likes, but woman doesn't like...
Maybe she likes a simple and fashion or cool cell phone.
So, you can ask her and give her the best one.

Okay Raph users.... what's next?

Hi guys!
Well, after four FUZE's.... for me, my partner, and two employees, it seems like it's time for an upgrade.
I've a blast with NATF's 4 series ROMS, and after about a year, I'm looking for a new device.
I noticed that the Touch Pro has the same CPU as our trusty Raphs, so I am not thrilled with that.
I find my device rather sluggish. It's not terrible, but... well... you know how it is!
So... Does anyone have any experience with a newer device? Maybe the Touch Pro 2 IS a big improvement (better resolution / tilt keyboard...), but it doesn't appear that way.
Thoughts are most definitely welcome.
I need to order another device, and right now, I just can't think of anything beyond yet another Fuze.
I'd love to hear what you guys have to say! I'm itching for a new device!
Thanks!
Mike
i don't find it that sluggish...
iPhone now? or the Palm Pre?
If your TP is sluggish, are you running the rom that came with the phone?
Mine was, until I discovered the cooked 6.5 roms back in May. I've flashed mine dozens of times. The 2303x builds are LIGHTNING fast, and depending on who you get it from, 99% of them are rock stable.
Pop over to the rom section, read the "flashing guide for Newbies" and then check out some of the great roms. These guys put in a LOT of time making the WM software better, and NO CARRIER BLOATWARE.

Get an iPhone. Duh!
On a serious note, it depends on whether you want to stay on the Windows Mobile platform or not, and whether you still want a physical keyboard or not. If you don't mind giving all touch-screen a try, then consider getting the Touch Pro HD (HTC Blackstone). I've heard great things about it, and it looks absolutely lovely. Otherwise, the only real upgrade path that I can think of is getting the Touch Pro 2 or similar.
It's really hard to upgrade when you're pretty much at the upper limit for smartphones. The Raphael is one of HTC's fastest devices, so keep that in mind.
My friend went from a Sprint Touch Pro (CDMA) to an Iphone 3G S 32GB... and he is a computer science grad student and a tech nerd... and he is blown away by the iphone. Yes Iphone OS is not like WM in functionality, but what the OS lacks, the apps make up for it. The Iphone is very stable, doesn't overheat (his doesn't), and is incredibly snappy. Plus its got a great screen, a built in ipod, etc. Just no insurance! =X And Apple control...
Hi guys!
First of all, allow me to clarify... I would 100% like to stay with a Windows Mobile phone, and second of all, I DEFINITELY need a slide out QWERTY keyboard.
And FYI.. I should have clarified... I am not a newbie! I have been hacking these phones and updating my ROMS for years now.
As I thought I mentioned, I have been flashing NATF's ROMS.
I started out with the CASIO BOSS in 1986, and as of late, I've had around six HTC phones, from the SX-66 to the 8125 to the 8525 to the FUZE, and so forth.
I don't know much about the iPhone 3GS, but I wrote a lengthy review of the 3G, and it just didn't suit my needs.
And like it or not, the FUZE is sluggish on my levels, even with the best ROMS. I don't think it's TERRIBLE, not at all, but let's face it... It's more like the feeling I get working off my modest Tablet PC on battery, than off my 4 monitored desktop's Quad Core Q9450 64Bit CPU, with 8 GB of RAM and 4TB on the hard drive.
There is just that little bit of 2008/2009 sluggishness that is making me a little eager and power hungry for a mind-blowing 2009/2010 device.
So, yeah, all this to say, I am not looking for an iPhone(!)
I am looking for a kick-ass Windows Mobile device that is the "next generation". The 8525 was an excellent jump from the 8125, which was an excellent jump from the SX66.
I am just looking for an equivalent jump, even if it's not made by HTC.
The FUZE/Touch Pro was THE must-have phone for all Hermes users.
I just needed a little guidance for the next one.
I am still looking for your suggestions! Thanks!
The TP2 has the best keyboard I've ever used on a phone. I've had the 8525, Tilt and Touch Pro (and a few others along the way). In fact, if I spend a few more days with it I may be faster with it than a desktop...it's really that good. As for performance, the AT&T version is excepted to come with 6.5 and 6.5 does run a lot better than 6.1 does in terms of speed but it's also a lot smoother overall and easier to use. It's probably 45 days off though if the rumors are right. The screen (a huge WVGA) feels a lot more sensitive. As far as speed, it is the same chipset and I've used both a Touch HD and a TP2 and it does feel faster but I think it's partially due to a mroe sensitive screen and people confuse that with the response time because the taps are easier to register. using TF3D you get your occasional hiccup. For my 2 cents I think when 6.5 comes out TF3D may not be as necessary but it's a personal preference. I hope TF3D 2.5 runs lighter since as a program it is pretty heavy in v2.1. All of this plays into 'speed'. In short though, the TP2 does feel like a pretty big upgrade over the TP(1). Again,t he screen size lets you see so much more that it simply puts it into another class. You can easily one hand emails with the onscreen keyboard and that works great for short responses but for large emails just open the keyboard and you feel like you have a minicomputer.
I've just purchased a TP2 to replace my TP1.
Same familiar WinMo, same massive repoistory of software, bigger screen, better keyboard. And it's not a piece of fruit
Thanks guys!
Very interesting praise for the TP2.
I had no idea the AT&T version was just around the corner. Good news.
bugsy, that is quite the glowing review. I was quite surprised to hear it had the same processor as the TP. I was hoping for a little boost!
Thanks again!
I just ordered one on ebay!
I know it's a little late, but have you considered symbian?
Nokia's got some really cool smart phones. The N97's bad ass!
Acer m900 until the USA compatible Omnia Pro shows up. Everything on the Acer is snappier than the Touch Pro, and probably what the older Wizard was like. Glad to be off the candy toy-phone the HTC made the Touch Pro into. Couldn't even do handwriting, nor using the VGA proper on a screen of that tiny size and the Qualcomm lag...
Both (m900, OmniaPro) still half as fast as the iPhone 3GS, but waiting for the 3GS to gain either cheap unlocked, or Palm Pre to go GSM. Nokia is still in some ditch thinking crap cpus can get them far.
Let us know how it turns out.

Just need some advice

Looking to move up into a bigger smart phone and I am very interested in the touch pro 2 as it can be customized a lot, and has many applications as well as a mix of touch screen with a very nice keyboard, but recently friends and such have swayed me to look into the blackberry market and I do like the front facing keyboard and the app store it has as it is though I am being told that windows mobile is a horrid mistake, slow, unstable, etc, and from my own research I have found this to be 50/50 depending on the website, as for the blackberry it seems ok just not quite as good as the touch pro 2, and price won't be a factor on these as I will be able to get either for about the same price, I just won't to get which ever is best for apps, texting, customizing, (battery life a must), and reliable build quality. I know this is probably a bias forum towards win mo but maybe some of you also have BB experience as well.
Welcome to forums
Go for TP2 defiantly!
it´s a great device!
And you´ll get the support from this great site
Don´t go for crackberry or iphoney or nokia
Just my opinion
Good luck on your decision

Xperia X1 | TouchPro2 | TouchPro | ?

Salutations!
Sooner im getting rid of my 1 month old iPhone 3G and i want to come back to WindowsMobile.
Previously i had TouchPro and it was reallly good phone.
But now i would like to buy other one.
Which one would YOU choose and why?
QWERTY is a must!
Touch Pro 2 by far. Out of all the phones you listed it has the best specs in every way. And by far the best keyboard.
Some people like the LG eXpo. It has a 1ghz snapdragon processor, a sort-of dpad under the screen, and apparently a projector though I have no idea what you'd use it for.
But the Touch Pro 2 has a good number of great ROMS for you to experiment with, and a very functional and usable Android port.
And it tilts. I never thought I'd care about the tilting until I actually started using it. It's a great feature. You can tilt it and put it on your desk and use it like a mini-laptop. Lots of fun.
As a TP2/HD2/TP/Diamond user, the TP2 has the best keyboard, but you may want to consider the HD2, the screen is just so, well, HUGE
The X1 has been succeeded by the X2, but there is no XDA support for that, i love the tp2 on Deepshining X6 6.5.5, it is the nicest device i have ever used, but you sould choose for yourself

He said QWERTY is a must In this case I'd take the TP2 as well. From what I heard about SE it seems they are not very good in building stable WM devices...
TP2. best qwerty among those 3. forget about the X1.
oh there's also a new Samsung with QWERTY. Samsung have great hardware but their ROMs/Software are full of junk and instable like no other.
X1 is not bad though rather old, therefore compared to new phones the hardware cannot compete anymore
X2 gets good grades on manufacturing and seems faster (though having the same cpu as X1), but looses all because of the currently very bad firmware, additionally there is no h-spl for it yet, so all owners are stuck with stock (for who knows how long)
so you better pick one of the other phones
good decision btw to swap your iphone for wm device
cheers

Trust me, the the on screen keyboard is awesome on the HD2, but the TP2 fits the bill for you, if you can, get a RHOD300, full 288MB ram useable
I'm almost tempted to suggest we do a swop. Your iPhone for my Touch Pro.
Never have I been able to connect to anything other than a WEP wifi network with it. Was with friend the other day. Connected to both a WPA network and to The Cloud, without so much as a twitch.
Me? fiddle with this, fiddle with that and nothing (Stupid greyed out PEAP/Cert box, in WPA settings. Searched the net till I'm blue in the face with that one).
Come on, sit outside my house next time I'm doing some internet banking, why don't you.
I've never used the keyboard either. iPhone has all the apps of course, one for everything. With WM it's a case of fiddle, fiddle.
What doesn't the iPhone have that I'd miss..... ermmm an FM radio!

Smartphone for my wife

Hi all, I would like to hear your opinion. I am choosing a smart phone as a Christmas gift for my wife. She is not techy at all, but I know she would like to have a small thin profile one. Touch screen is nice. We've looked at the Avia, and she likes it. But I don't know if there are other choices. OS wise I would rather focus on either Android or maybe WM. Thank you for any recommendation!
oh, and it would be nice if it can sync with her computer to import contacts calendar etc from the Lotus Notes in her computer. Thanks!
I have a myTouch 3G Slide and I personally like it. It comes with android and if it's rooted you can flash Cyanogenmod which brings it from 2.1 to 2.2 (gotta love froyo). Overall it's a pretty decent little phone and it's pretty easy to familiarize yourself with. This was my first smartphone and it has some nice features like a full keyboard and touchscreen. Check it out, just my suggestion though.
Go for anything except Samsung....Check out the hTC legend...Also wildfire may be handy for her as a 3.2 inch screen is more than enuf...
I have Desire, and my wife have Samsung Omnia (i900). She's VERY unhappy with Windows Mobile, and since I failed as a gentleman & refuse to switch phones (be honest, would you do something like that ) there's no much choice but get her Android device too. I showed her pics and specs of HTC Wildfire and she liked it (the white one. Color is most important thing, ofcourse. WAY more important than CPU speed or screen res )
So, Wildfire is my recommendation.
I agree with dev223, for somebody who is not a techie, get a phone with nice design. CPU and RAM won't matter to them. Aria or Legend would be my suggestion.

some quick Q's

I currently have Galaxy S that I bought a couple of weeks ago. Now I have been thinking about getting a WP7. At the moment the only phone that interests me is the Omnia7 because of the amoled screen, it's just amazing on the Galaxy S. Also the Omnia7 is metallic compared to the horrible plastic cheap feeling Galaxy S. Don't get me wrong, I love the GS but I honestly want to make the switch for a couple of reasons:
1. Xbox LIVE games, achievements on the go
2. The metallic feel of the Omnia7, Im so afraid that the GS will broke if I drop it by accident lol
etc
is the Omnia7 worth getting? Is it supported anymore? Any updates coming to it? I know it will get Mango but anything after that? How much is the phones real value atm, so I don't get ripped off for paying too much for it? Under 200€? Over 200€? Under 250€?
Thanks in advance
Firstly if they're your only two reasons for getting a Windows Phone, then:
There are a few xbox live games, which in my opinion, are quite over priced. Hopefully as more people buy into the platform, the prices will drop.
The Omnia 7 does feel nice and sturdy, but the OS is a big jump just for the build quality.
However, if you're sold on Windows Phone itself for all of the other awesome stuff...
I have the Omnia and, yes, it's worth it. It will, as you say, get Mango. After that we, or at least I, don't know (as with all first gen devices). I think you can get it fairly cheap, but you should shop around. Maybe consider 2nd hand?
Casey
Well those aren't my only reasons to get WP7, I like the UI very much, the icons, the simple look of it I actually use the "UberMusic" app on my SGS that is almost an exact copy of the WP7 music player, I also have all my home screen icons like WP7, u know those white circles with the icon in them.
If you have hold the SGS in your hand, you will understand why I want the metallic case for the phone xd
I have looked some 2nd hand Omnia7's and they seem to go from 180-250€.. eBay uk has some but I'm not sure if they work here in Finland... Like if they are locked to a carrier etc
Thanks for your reply
