This is just a toggle script to switch between having the Rosie UI enabled & disabled for the Hero ROM. With it enabled it looks pretty incredible. With it disabled it runs extremely well & has many available features.

Instructions
Extract to a temp folder
Double click RosieToggle.bat
This will allow you to keep exchange & active sync, all the extra little apps, the black task bar, enhanced calendar, etc and not sacrifice the speed.

Copy Rosie.apk & Launcher.apk to your sdcard
Term: mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
Term: rm -r /system/sd/app_s/Launcher.apk
Term: rm -r /system/sd/app_s/Rosie.apk
Term: rm -r /data/app/Rosie.apk or Launcher.apk (Removing one)
Term: cp /sdcard/Rosie.apk or Launcher.apk /data/app (Adding one)
Reboot
* Note : Only keep one or the other. No point in both.
So this just uses Hero's launcher.apk instead of rosie, is what I'm to gather?

Yup, pretty simple & installed to the phone (/data/app). Just allows for a quick change back & forth. I'm using the hero rom w/o Rosie and I really enjoy it. Rosie was nice but the rendering was too much for this hardware.
Thanks for pointing me this way, ckrest. Flashing Hero now and will certainly check this out and report back anything I run across.
This sounds like exactly what I wanted

No they're specific to Rosie... Think of Rosie as like Open Home and all its addons are specific to it. Same concept.
So what other features are there once Rosie's been switched off?

All the same features except the UI & Widgets.. You'll have exchange support, twitter & fb integration into contacts, new calendar & dialer, new slide lock, black task bar, browser w/flash, pdf viewer, new music player, etc etc

Thanks worked like a charm, I was wondering if you could push rosie to /data/app instead of the sdcard. I probably could edit the bat file and do an adb push rosie.apk to /data/app correct?

you mean? when not using rosie jou have the default android look that is in the jf, thedude lite and other builds.
This .bat needs to be ran to switch every time or does it give the option in the phone after to switch? I have my G1 with hero running very well dont want to mess that up.

no, you cannot run a bat-file on the phone.
but having this feature would be nice...
Does this at all help with the widgets issue? I also have hero running very smoothly on my device. Rosie runs well also but always force closes when I add widgets with Rosie.
Is there anywhere to pick up the original launcher.apk. I used another script to do away with the hero interface (rosie speed up script). However, it sounds like a better deal to have it toggle.
Is it possible to (and believe me I have little to no idea what I'm talking about) replace the stock launcher with one of the home replacements (Home++)?
If so, would there be any complications?
I feel like it should be as simple as just renaming a file or two, but like I said I have zero knowledge.
Thanks in advance!
Just install the one you want from the market, press the home key and take it from there! It really is as simple as that.

Just rename home++ as Launcher2.apk and push it in /system/app/
It works for me when i do this in G1...
home++ was awesome when it started... but it hasn't seen an updated for ages!
seems like the dev abandoned it
Awesome! thank you kind fellows!

His last site update was Jan 15 2010. Not ages, but even apart from that, in its current state it's really quite good (OpenHome's too inelegant for me, I prefer my home replacement minimalistic)--plus, it lets you use live wallpapers, so I'll take what I can get.
Why not just adb shell rm -r /system/app/Launcher2.apk ? That would get rid of the launcher2.apk and keep the home replacement. Though depending on what kind of home replacement it is, that could disable it entirely. I know some home replacements are kind of like an overlay of the launcher app and aren't completely stand alone, so deleting the entire the launcher would be detrimental.
Though if you want to try it out, make a nandroid, then do that command, or even more simple, just pull the Launcher2.apk out of the current ROM you are using and if it fails just push Launcher2.apk back to /system/app/

update: removing Launcher2.apk didn't work. caused force close and basically death.
thank jesus for nandroid.
I haven't used the N1 launcher since day one as there is a known bug that causes it to crash when too many apps are installed (actually, running but it's really only happens as you start to install a million apps like I do). Anyway, I use Launcher+ from the makers of Home++. Simply set it as your default and kill the default launcher task. I've been doing this since day one and it has worked perfectly for me. And even if you don't kill the task, which you should absolutely do since there's no reason to keep it running, the N1 has more than enough processing power and speed to handle home replacements. It's not like the G1. Launcher+ feels like it came with the phone and I like it better than the stock N1 launcher.
Could someone point me to or make a .zip file that will give me that crazykewl lockscreen....the one with unlock to the left and silent mode to the right. Purrrrdy please?
Running dcV1
Im not against sexual favors, as im broke.
No need, just delete htclockscreen.apk and .odex,reboot,good.can use adb or use root explorer, the files are in system/app.check the dc1 custom files thread and homescreen thread towards the last couple pages, few other people have requested this, but its simple to do
Just my 2 cents...
I didn't delete them I just abbed .bak to the ends in case I want to revert back.
Also, FYI, When you rm the lockscreen you lose the ability to turn your alarm off. Agimax posted an older android alarm clock in the DC ROM thread, I'm not sure what post but with the default #posts/page it's on page 243.

Not near a computer, nor will i be for a while. Im scared to screw with r.e. and im not sure of the name of the lockscreen to have searched for it in the dc custom files thread. An update.zip would be amazing :- )
Ill start sifting thru dc custom files tho :-(
Got root explorer. How do i push the files without messing up my alarm?
Btw, real tip, thanks for the r.e. suggestion. Ive been meaning to download terminal and remove some bloatware, but i just multiselected everything i didnt want and poof!
One more quick thing...which apk is desk clock? Is it intertwined within world clock?
sinister,
If I'm understanding you correctly I think you're missing something. It took me 30 minutes of searching before I realized the super cool lockscreen you're after is ALREADY IN THIS BUILD. Removing or renaming htclockscreen.apk and htclockscreen.dex gets the lockscreen you don't want out of the way so that the one you do want can do it's job . You don't have to push anything to the phone to get the cool lockscreen, just remove those two files. BUT that's when you need an alarm alternative because the lockscreen you want disables the ability to turn off the 2.1 alarm. The alarm Agimax posted is a perfect workaround for this.
Good luck!

Um, that's just the default Android lockscreen, isn't it? That description sounds exactly like what comes up when I fire up the sdk version of 2.1 in the emulator.
Is there anyway to add a wall paper picture after removing the htclockscreen.apk and odex files ... I have the default lockscreen, just that it is clear
Thanks in advance

I removed the htclockscreen.apk and odex files, rebooted and still have the same lockscreen, what am I missing?
I have been searching but I do not see the htclockscreen.codex I'm running darch 4.1 I removed the .apk but the lock screen is not aligned right and doesn't show the slide options. Please help!
rm /system/app/HtcLockScreen.apk
rm /system/app/HtcLockScreen.dex
This worked like a charm for me.
If this doesn't do it for you guys then I'm sorry I can't help, this is where my expertise comes to a screeching halt.

This was part of a project so I thought I would share. It's not completely finished as there are some final touches to be done, but it's got the weather icons from the htc weather themes, as well as a completely transparent background.
Just use adb to push it to /system/app
I'll probably finish the apk either tonight or tomorrow, as well as get a screenshot for everyone.
Sounds nice. Like to share some screenshots?

I'm not sure where I pulled them from actually...It was like 2am when I was doing it and I wasn't planning on releasing it at a morph or a theme or anything so I didn't document it. Sorry :-/
However, it was from this very forum. It was from a status bar icon mod, though I can't remember which.
Nice, I shall possess!

Is this based off of the Froyo code base? The new Froyo release actually uses the Android browser for any links clicked while the older version used a built-in html viewer.
So this is froyo only? I can't see that mentioned anywhere and all it does is remove my news and weather apps on 2.1.
Is this expected?
I know there's a thread about how to get the transparent genie Widget. But do anyone know where I can get the transparent youtube widget and the transparent Music Widget and how I go about installing them??
I didn't want to hijack the other thread about Transparent Genie Widget by asking my question so please bare with me.
Nevertheless, any help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been working some long hours + taking some classes. But on a more serious note, Wow...thanks for making that youtube widget for me! I'm bumping this right now.
But I made a mistake in what I was asking for. I meant to ask for the black, smoke effect for music widget, Power Widget, facebook widget and the Youtube Widget.
I want all my widgets (News&weather, Power Widget, Youtube and Music Widget) to all look like those on Bugless Beast Rom.
Here's a pic of them:

I am waiting for the answer to this aswell.
I keep getting forced closes with the youtube app.
Would also like to figure out how to install these...exactly what I was looking for. My opaque gray news/weather widget looks so blah.
I used root explorer to replace the youtube app but it wont install
First download a terminal app from market. I use root explorer to delete the stock Genie widget from /system/app. Now we can install the new Genie widget. Make sure genie widget is on the root of sdcard. Now open the terminal you downloaded.type in as follows.
su
cd /system/app
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
install /sdcard/geniewidget.apk /system/app/geniewidget.apk
press enter after each line. your new genie widget should be installed now. make sure to spell genie widget just like it is spelled on it sdcard.
Trying to get the genie widget for alarm clock plus...
Samsung galaxy s, can I safely do the above?
heres a thread with a lot more... maybe start requesting there cause theses all work and its already a big thread
