Modified GenieWidget.apk - Nexus One Themes and Apps

This was part of a project so I thought I would share. It's not completely finished as there are some final touches to be done, but it's got the weather icons from the htc weather themes, as well as a completely transparent background.
Just use adb to push it to /system/app
I'll probably finish the apk either tonight or tomorrow, as well as get a screenshot for everyone.

Sounds nice. Like to share some screenshots?

I'm not sure where I pulled them from actually...It was like 2am when I was doing it and I wasn't planning on releasing it at a morph or a theme or anything so I didn't document it. Sorry :-/
However, it was from this very forum. It was from a status bar icon mod, though I can't remember which.

Nice, I shall possess!

very nice, i kept thinking about this, but never got around to it

can this be installed as a normal .apk?if not can you make it so it can?i cant push anything.would like to try it

Is this based off of the Froyo code base? The new Froyo release actually uses the Android browser for any links clicked while the older version used a built-in html viewer.

So this is froyo only? I can't see that mentioned anywhere and all it does is remove my news and weather apps on 2.1.
Is this expected?

updated and fixed
It's good so far but the battery icon is off center for the percentage number in CM 5.0.6. It sits off to the right. Obviously it can be turned off but I like it and it's only a small adjustment needed I think to have the text in the middle, which would look awesome.
-
Also, I prefer the version of helix launcher 2 with the launcher button in the middle. I think this was changed back in the most recent one. This is a personal preference though so I don't expect you to change it just for me

sorry about links being broken, fixed, and regarding battery percantage, that requires more knowlege than i have, i keep it turned off, batterylife widget ftw. but as per the helixlauncher i just need some time and a copy of the middle buttoned one and i will theme it. thanks!
I tried flashing the black zip and I get constant FCs. I even wiped and it still happens. After the wipe I was getting boot loops. Any ideas?
same here always FC or bootloop
What is the name of that battery widget you have?
Nice theme!
If you wanna have a clear bar, that works better with market or browser, look at my GlasStatusBar.
You can use it for your theme, if you want!
@people w/ fc's Idk what to tell you, I'm currently using the black version and it works fine and I put it on my friends n1 and it works fine

First of all, I love it.
But I wish that it supported the 5-icon rows in the app launcher. Also, how do I turn off the battery percentage in the battery icon? And lastly, why do the pictures have the droid guy in the center but the download doesn't? I am using the clear status bar.

the android guy is themed into the launcher, its not working for you?
and batt percent is in spare parts,
UPDATED!
Yea, the android guy was there, just off to the side and I was wondering why that differed from the pictures. Also, is there anyway to make the 5 row launcher or is there another one that has that option? I know CM has it.
EDIT: Also, I am about to download the newest update. But if it hasn't changed, is there any way to change the color of the name of the folder, the word that is in the top that you long press to rename a folder.

[THEME][UPDATE] SexyBlack 0.6 for CyanogenMod 6.0.0

So, I've created my first theme.
EDIT: Version 0.6 is out -- check it out.
It is a Desire like theme, with a black bar and colorful icons.
This theme is still a work in progress, so watch for updates. I will try to keep it updated as CM6 updates are released, so watch for that as well.
This theme works wonderfully on CyanogenMod 6.0.0 STABLE on the Nexus One, should work on other HDPI devices (EVO4G, DROID Incredible, etc). It may work on 854x480 devices (DROID), but I'm not sure. Give it a shot, if it works for you, let me know!
A special thanks goes out to Formel-LMS and MicroMod777, for their themes are which this theme is based off of.

OBLIGATORY DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for anything that happens to you, your phone, your computer, your mom, your girlfriend, etc. I will try my best to help you out, please bear with me.
PROTIP: If you have issues applying this morph, first, try again, second, adjust your speed in the metamorph settings and try again. If you would like to revert, reflash your base ROM (and GAPPS).
morphed this, looks awesome
did get about half my apps showing up duplicated in the launcher though.
Well, that is quite odd.
I had no issues here, and quite honestly, I have no idea what would cause the icons to duplicate. Hmm...
Thanks for the props though!
ill look into it, its prob just my phone
everything else is fine, its nice to have a blackbar on froyo with transparency to it instead of a solid pulldown color
good stuff man only this i can tell that could be updated is when i pull down the status bar "t-mobile" is black/dark grey is that by design?
Yeah, I noticed that as well. I still gotta change that to white.
I'm quite tired though, and I was getting ready to head to bed.
I will put out 0.3 tomorrow, fixing that.
Thanks again guys, enjoy!
Sorry it took me a couple days to get the update out there, I spent the weekend at the Great Blue Heron Music Festival. While it was a blast, it did delay me getting the update out.
The only thing that has been changed from 0.2 is the network name color from black to white.
However, I would like some feedback. Do you think it would be cool if I made the text RED while roaming?
What else would everyone like to see out of this?
I'm also thinking about changing the LED colors on a per-app basis...
GMail = Red
Google Voice = Purple
Google Talk = Yellow
etc...
What do you think about that?
Come on guys, help me out!
Morphed this with metamorph and now my settings and menu>widgets crashes with the note "android.processes.acore has crashed" Any help?
Grab me a logcat? Also, perhaps try to re-morph it at a different speed? I have mine at 4200 and have had no issues. And where exactly is this occuring again? Can you clarify it a little better so I can attempt to re-create it on my end?
I'm sorry that you're having issues and I would like to help, but you gotta help me help you =D
I got rid of my issues with "android.processes.acore has crashed" by dissabling screen cache in adw launcher settings...
Basically I'm running 7 screens with scrolling widgets for messages and calendar (pure).
Flicking a few times back and forth between screens and scrolling the widgets would cause the error time and time again until I disabled that.
Now the scrolling is not as nice as before, but the prosess doesn't crash.
The morph works without issues on my n1.
-e
----edit--
Request for battery percent if it can be done
Some roms have started including it, and I'm sure cyan will on next alpha, but until then it would be nice to morph it in..
Apart from that, all good. I like it simple. Perhaps add some colored settings (like my screenshot) that would match the settings app..
Will this work with CM6.0a1 and launcher pro replacing ADW as default launcher in system/app?
I'm also looking for some info on using themes in cyanogen with launcher pro. Is there anything out there?

I don't see why it wouldn't work with Launcher Pro, at least in its current state, I don't touch the Launcher.apk at all.
May I ask why you prefer Launcher Pro to ADW? I'd just like some insight, I've never really looked into LP.

LP is MUCH Faster than ADW!!! That is one reason. I know it is close sourced but it is definitely faster at the moment. We will see what happens with updates.

Will this work with the Nightly Builds for CM6?
I think it will break battery percent on the nightly builds...
To get battery percent I believe the changes are in services.jar, and since this metamorph modifies that to get white text then it might break. (I'm not sure though)
I will try later today though, so we'll see
Perhaps the op would be so nice as to create a temp morph for the nightly build *wink* *wink*
----edit----
Yea, nightly build is on, and its sweet
The morph will break a lot of stuff, but I reckon if we remove the xml/jar files from the metamorph, and just apply framework.png's it will work fine.
CM6 nightly will let you change all text colors to whichever you want through settings, so the morph need only to contain .png's...
---edit2---
Removed the "services" folder, and the "layout" folder (in framework res), edited the sexyblack .xml to remove the entry for the files I deleted, and now this work perfect on cm6 nightly!!
Hey all, I played around a little today with building CM from source. Pretty sweet stuff.
I will put out a version tomorrow that will work with the nightlies.
And yes, it will be a hell of a lot easier because the color control is incorporated in CMParts.
I'm off to bed, long night.
Thanks again guys!

well i asked a question right before you posted "answer:" and your "answer:" had nothing to do with my question. what an @$$h0le you are. or atleast made yourself look to be. anyways, its not a big deal.
You can follow these steps to pull the smoke news widget out of the smoked theme mentioned. These steps also apply for the news widget. A lot of the time I do not have ADB accessible and this method can be completed with only the phone.
- Save the smoke.zip file to your sdcard (this is the smoke theme already mentioned in this thread)
- Open Root Exporer and navigate to /system/app/ and mount it as R/W
- Move the stock geniewidget.apk to the SD card (/sdcard) in case you want it back later.
- Now navigate to the smoke.zip file, press on it and choose view.
- Navigate to the smoke.zip /system/app/ folder and copy the geniewidget.apk to your phones /system/app folder.
- Most important part now - long-press on the file and click on permissions from the pop-up menu. Permissions should be "read" for user/group/others and "write" for only user. All other boxes unchecked. If you don't do this it wont load.
- Restart phone and the transparent widget should be good to go.
This wont work for all apps - so make sure to keep the originals if you are getting creative. You can apply this across handsets, but try to stay away from system-dependent apps like cameras and power control widgets.

I'm just about ready to give up. I have been trying for a couple of days to make mine look like the pick I posted. Can't seem to get it done. It's really not that important, just thought it would match the other sense widgets a little better.
This is as close as I could get. For some reason I cannot get rid of that blue background in the widget, must not be editing the right file.

I would love to see this ported to AOSP and even Sense ROMs too. It seems like they're doing it over in the Evo forums and it doesn't appear to be part of the Settings.apk. Instead, there are a bunch of framework modifications that are required. Mainly to framework.jar, framework-res.apk, and services.jar (but some others too).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9157872
I know next to nothing about this, but just pulled the framework files from CM6.1, AOSP 0.9.8 and a Stock Evo to compare to the files from those at the above thread. Highly doubt I'll get anywhere with it, but who knows!
If anyone else wants to take a crack at it, I'd love to be a guinea pig.

Wow... Widgetsoid looks great. Thanks for the recommendation.
However, just to clarify, what I was referring to (perhaps we're not all on the same page) is the power controls notification bar found on CM 6.1. That would be sweet to have as it saves some space on your home screens that can be used by other widgets or shortcuts.

[mod / theme] [cm6 / 2.2] [20-05-2011] WORKING Transparent contacts/phone/mms apks

UPDATE - So i finaly figured it out, feel like a absolute NOOB atm. but these things happen.
Basicaly i edited the "Styles.XML" to make the backgrounds tranperant.
i looked for the style that the android manifest referenced and changed the parent to "@android:style/Theme.Wallpaper"
changed the background image to just a black transplucent image
rebuilt the app, copied the resources.arsc and the moded image,
pushed it to my phone, and BOOM! it worked a treat.
this should work in any app i think.
sometimes the hardest problems are solved so easliy.....
once i have tested it a bit i'll wrap the phone / contacts / mms apps into a update zip hopefully tonight or tomorro.
also i'll put a quick tut together if ppl are interested.
PVY
I am trying to make a fully transparent theme. Got all the framework-res stuff downpat. But I can't for the life of me get the other apps to go transperant.
I tried just changing the background image to semi transparent in the contacts app, then I went fishing around in the xml files but can't find any thing that relates to the background.
then in the mms app I found all the colours in the res/values
Changed the alpha but it didn't work.
Been searching around and can't find out how to make it work.
Thanks in advance.

FINALY!!!
So i fgured this out. thought i'd share
only took a few weeks of googling. (and finding the correct thing to google)
lol...
i had to add the style to the AndroidManifest.xml
i used
Code:
android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Wallpaper"
and i put it in the application brackets. so it looked like this
Code:
<application android:label="@string/app_label" android:icon="@drawable/ic_launcher_smsmms" android:name="MmsApp" android:taskAffinity="android.task.mms" android:allowTaskReparenting="true" android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Wallpaper">
then the usual stuff with making stuff Transparent.
attached is a screeny or 2 the funny lines is my wallpaper. (fireflies Live wallpaper)
next im going to do the Phone and contacts apps, then move my way through the rest of the phone
Pvy.
are you still working on this? i think it would be cool to have all menus transparent
Yeah mate, been having mega issues with my new laptop. it wont decompile/recompile apks properly... i think it is a win 7, 64 bit issue...
so i hit a bit of a snag. was thinking of releasing a theme if ppl were interested. (gotta figure out the whole recovery zip thing tho)

modifying the alpha/transperancy of the images and the alpha in the xml files.
ie int the color.xml it has the background colors,
so #ff000000 is fully opaque black,
and #99000000 is like 60% Transperant Black
i'll post the MMS.APK if thats what you are after. and you can see all the changes i made. it was rather rushed after i had my epipheny
EDIT- I attached the MMS.apk that i was working on recently, it runs on the emulator, and the transperancy works for both black and white backgrounds. the apk is signed so it should run on a phone. but normal stuff aplies,
Make sure you have a backup of the original, and i'm not responsible for any damage, ect ect ect.
