is it possible to allow google earth on cupcake? - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

google earth has (FINALLY!!) been released for android, but there arent ANY 2.1 roms out that work perfectly with sense ui. i really dont want to leave cursorsense.. is it possible to get this to work on android 1.5?

It's very unlikely. It will rely on the 2.1 Android Librarys for drawing etc. It should be a matter of a couple of months until stable 2.1 roms (official perhaps) come out.

Have you tried pushing a 2.1 build.prop then trying to download google earth, my just be the firmware version but im sure it runs on cupcake

yea i tried using a build.prop from a 2.1 rom, still no success..
are they planning on releasing it for 1.5 or just upgrading the 1.5s to 2.1s?

im not sure, I have a mytouch 32A 1.2 (the 3.5 headjack) it comes with 1.6 and i hear all phones will upgrade to 2.1
but i think its only for 2.1 firmware, might be an issue with frameworks or something

HTC Keyboard on AOSP 2.0.1 Rom

Is it possible to get the HTC Keyboard on the AOSP 2.0.1 vanilla android rom? I've been trying and searching and all the htc_ime.apk files either can't install or force quit. Am I missing something or this can't be done yet?
NEVERMIND...xda is the best!
Out of curiosity, what's the solution here? I plan on running AOSP once one gets the camera working, but I hate the keyboard...

Ugh... I understand if you guys are new members and all but please do a search first. The HTC IME is based off of the HTC framework. It can't run without it and AOSP obviously doesnt have it. Also, we don't want to include the framework for two reasons. A), it's not open source. B), it bloats the **** out of the phone.
That said, Cyanogen did post a standalone HTC_IME.apk file for donut roms on the Dream forums back a while ago. It worked on his rom when I had a dream but I tried it on our AOSP 1.6 rom and it didnt work so I dont think it works anymore for whatever reason.
Just download ShapeWriter or BetterKeyboard. Two really good alternatives.
the HTCIME.apk is working for me on AOSP 2.0.1 (12.17.2009 version)

Given up

Has anyone else here just given up on 2.2 being released, and instead are more excited about custom 2.3?

Nope, 2.2 overcomes a bigger barrier than 2.3. With 2.1 I'll finally be able to use the new GMail app, the new voice search app, etc. 2.3 is nice & interesting, but there really aren't any killer features to me besides the new look. And even that is achievable using a theme. Plus a released 2.2 will be more stable than a ported 2.3.
Note: The only reason I am on 2.1 still is I am waiting for a stable 2.2 captivate release to use as a basis for my next custom ROM.

you should try the axura rom. most stable rom to date! AND its 2.2..... AND GPS works great for most people using the rom. AND it has awesome support! AND....
The main reason i'm waiting for the official release is i don't want to wipe my phone/
I haven't given up because I've been using a fully functional Captivate-build of Froyo thanks to Cognition. Yes, it's not the 100% official 100% final version, but ya know what? It runs really damn good and I have yet to find anything missing/buggy due to the Froyo leak itself.
Don't want to wipe your phone? There are so many apps out there that make backing up and restoring a breeze. TitaniumBackup and ROM Manager to name two. I can flash a new version of Cognition AND have all my apps back up and running with their saved data in 20 minutes or less.

Not interested in no voicemail, the look of Axura, or using a kernel not built from Captivate source. Plus I'm tired of flashing ROMs lol
I'm sure Axura is a fine ROM for those who made that jump. I just like making my own ROMs from other people's Captivate parts.
I'm more tired of seeing yet another thread about the unreleased official Froyo 2.2.
I deem this thread close
We will see when they release an official version of 2.2 and there will be threads all over the place when it happens.

[Q] Confused about Froyo vs Gingerbread

I have a 1.2 branch G-Tab with Andriod 2.2 (Froyo) running Brilliant Corners but I have noticed that a lot of people seem to be running CM7 (CyanogenMod 7?). I was under the impression that CyanogenMod requires Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), doesn't it? How did everyone get Gingerbread on their G-Tabs? Does it update when you load the CM7 ROM or other Ginger edition ROM?

CM7 is Android 2.3. So when you load it onto your Gtab you will actually be running gingerbread instead of froyo. Since you are running 1.2 based brilliant corners (which is a rom i would really recommend) you would have to switch bootloaders to a 1.1 version to be able to load Cyanogen Mod. It really comes down to what rom you like the best. If you are more of a "noob" who wants all the features possible, I would stick to a Froyo based rom, because video acceleration as well as everything else is possible. Basically the further you step away from android 2.2 the more things start breaking.
2.3 --> video acceleration (main)
3.0 --> camera, flash, video (main)
I hope this helps.

Cyanogenmod 7.1 on bootloader 1.2 is also available on Slatedroid an perhaps more. I have tried it. Nice, but as said, Froyo-based ROMs are the only ones that work 100%. On Cyanogenmod 7.0, gyro messed up Army. Iper, on 7.1 no sound at all.

I was totally gonna add that section but for some reason forgot I have personally tried them and they work well. I just said 1.1 because that is what it was initially developed on. Something tells me that sooner than later the Cyanogen Mod team will make the bootloader switch when they really start seeing their work ported to 1.2

[Q] Android 2.4 ROM?

Is it possible to build a ROM off of an OS that doesn't officially exist?
Meaning, would I be able to build an Android 2.4 ROM, based off various SDKs?
And if so, how would I do this?
Thanks to all!
But Android 2.4 does exist, here's the proof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrAjgYDx7yU

1- Isn't that a developer version of 2.3? Unreleased?
2- I wanted to build it off of 2.3, 3.0, and 4.0, if that would even be possible, and then have it look unlike anything Android has released yet.
And 3- Thank you for that video. I didn't think it existed

2.x.whatever is just a software version. So if you are using the baseline code of 2.3, it is still a 2.3 gingerbread based ROM. And if it is a custom ROM, you can call it what ever you want. myrom 6.9..doesn't matter. The only way it is officially 2.4 is if you use the 2.4 source code as the baseline for your ROM. Implementing features from different software versions doesn't make it an official new version of android. When Cyanogen 7 came out based off of gingerbread, it had way more features than 2.3.3. But since it was based off of 2.3.3, the software version was still 2.3.3...Kind of a jumbled post, but hope it helped shed some light.
Just build it off of ics and put whatever features you want into it. I'm not really sure what you want to do. You could build it from froyo or something and make it look like something different.

But could you modify the settings .apk to make it say 2.4? If not, then can you mix and match apps from different version system dumps, or would you need to modify them?
I'm totally new to this, so I don't know how to do any of this
Thanks!

But just modifying the ROM to say a different version doesn't mean anything. You can make your gingerbread based ROM say software version 1.5...but that doesn't make it a cupcake ROM...
No offense but you seem like you shouldn't be making roms anyway. Its very difficult.
Don't forget to hit thanks

None taken, I just want to figure out how so I can make my own rom, due to the fact that all the roms available for the DInc are either really bad, or boring (except MIUI)
I agree, and I guess if your up to it there are some tutorials on the forums or Google it. It would be cool to see something new like that.

How are the roms for the droid incredible "boring"? Have you looked at what newtoroot, jermaine, mcd, incubus, ihftp, and joelz have been doing for the phone in terms of development? Look in the dev thread, tell me inc2 mctwist is "boring." And then tell me that "android 2.4 is cool"

I guess 'boring' was the wrong word. I've had the Incredible for a year, and I've gotten tired of Sense, I hate it now. I guess I should've specified farther- I hate Sense, and all the AOSP roms (other than MIUI) are boring.

Quick question. Is this Ginger bread 2.3, Froyo 2.2, or Eclair 2.1?
I know its sense 2.1, but what android version is it?

Given the market icon that represents android 2.1, I'd wager it's just a modified stock rom...could be me, but wasn't this done more than enough times already? Like almost 2 years ago? Android 2.1 is completely obsolete and nobody really wants it anymore...plus, liquidsense and nfx are already the best 2.1 roms out there...nothing can really be done to improve on them...OP, why not just use Android 2.3? I could just ruu and root if I wanted this
Holy Miracle Batman! It's alive! (Been trying to flash ROMs all week trying to revive this HERO from the dustbin...all other ROMs have been stuck at the HTC screen and bootlooping.)
Thanks for making a ROM that works for my HERO...now I got music at the gym! Just in time too...3 minutes to spare!

That's good job man. Ive been wanting to learn how to do this stuff but i just never get around to it.
You took a step in the right direction. Keep up the good work.
good to have another stock rom easily accessible, thanks for this
Multilingual ?
Does this rom support Multilingual?
Thanks
hey money,
if you want to reduce rom size, offer anything non-system essential in an optional update.zip. i see from screenshots you have pacman and nba, those could be offered in a separate zip. if you need any help at all doing this, feel free to ask, and ill help as much as possible. keep up the good work, i know you will go far.
maybe also if we feel froggy we can adapt aroma to your rom and let users choose exactly what they want and dont want?
also i see your on cellular south, maybe offer a separate update.zip for a sprint fix? this would include mms.apk from a sprint stock rom, sprint eri.xml, and telephony.db from a sprint rom. that way both carriers are supported.
