Trying to get some WM apps running on TG01 - TG01 Themes and Apps

I'm having some problems getting some of the available WM apps to run on the TG01. Here's a list of the ones that don't work, and what happens. If anyone knows how to get these working please share.
TaskFacade - Blank window titled "Error"
Dialup Enabler Disabler - Blank window titled "Error"
HTCCalculator - One of the components required to run this app is missing....
I'm using the official WM6.5 that came pre-installed on the phone.

Keyboard issues on the s720??

I am coming accross keyboard issues on the s720 i just picked up a few days ago. At first I thought it was the 3rd party app I was trying to install (MinduIM). Basically, it installs fine, but once you try to use the app, you find out any key that has a number associated to it when FN key is enabled, will not work. For example R, D, C, etc on the slider keyboard. I then tried to install 3 more apps and came accross the same issues.
I heard there was a fix for another HTC model, but when I tried that on mine, it just locked it up and would not start the phone anymore. Thank god I was able to remove it.
Anyone come accross this issue or know a fix?
Sounds to me like a problem with the Keyboard driver, like I had with my qwertz and caps, but I don't know where you could get a new version. Maybe (it's just another radio right?) you should try the MoDaCo cab for new et9 it was a newer version of the driver, but it could also lock it again. Look in the thread of the New Guava ROM, in the first post he put in a link to it!
EDIT:

can this hack work with wm pro devices also?

Google Maps crashing my Touch Pro

Help. I tried to upgrade to latest Google Maps on my TP. First I tried removing the older version with the "remove programs" function. It seemed to remove ok. Then I tried to download the newest version. It downloaded but had problems loading. When I finally loaded it, it freezes my TP each time I try to use it. I have to soft reset. I can't even remove this version or copy a new version over it.
Any ideas?
are you sure you can't re-install it?
Try downloading the cab again and then re-installing it. What error are you getting that won't allow u to re-install?
I've tried a few times. I tried downloading to my laptop, then to the TP and also direct download onto TP. Everytime, (either way) it causes TP to freeze. For direct download method I've used both Opera and IE. When I have finally gotten Google Maps (GM) to load, it freezes my TP when I try to launch it.
I have also tried deleting all instances of GM in registry and using file explorer, but the end result is the same.
I was running version 3.0.x of GM and it was slow but worked ok.
The only other recent change is that Windows Live Search changed over to Bing.
Is it possible Bing is blocking Google?

Bing would have no affect on GM.
I would suggest making sure you have a good internet and GPS signal as it may be trying to access your comm ports on startup.
Also, how are your system resources? Do you have enough to run it?
Not sure if you're on a stock or cooked ROM, etc. but too many flashes w/o flashing back to stock can cause strange anomalies as well.
Bruce,
I'm not sure about the exact signal, but this seems to be failing at points before program starts up. The old version worked ok. Would deleting the program and its settings file cause any issues?
As for Roms, I am using original ROM version: 1.94.710.2 WWE
and radio version: 1.02.25.19
Does the newest version of GMaps have any issue with these?
As for resources, I have about 240mb free - storage
and 120mb free - Program
when I am trying to use or load GM.
Maybe this version is conflicting with something on my TP?
Where can I get a slightly earlier release of GM than this newest version?
I thought I had an earlier version but I only have the OEM package.
If you google it you can find earlier versions.
You might want to try flashing a newer version of your stock ROM if its available to rule out any software conflicts.
I have absolutely no issues with GM.
Well At least Google Maps is only Crashing your Touch Pro instead of your Car.
Jimmy,
Give it a chance. I'm sure with some tweaks, GM can have me driving off bridges in no time.
Now I have another problem that may be related.
When I use Bing, if I try to update Categories, I get an error message that says
can't update categories please check network connection. I have access.
Everything else about Bing seems to work.
Any ideas here?

Have you cleared your proxy and verified your connection settings?
I can't update categories or collections. Bing keeps asking me to check my network connections. I did and they seem ok. I haven't changed them and can connect to internet.
What am I missing?
Problem solved!!
On a MS forum, I received the solution that fixed my Bing problem. All I had to do was delete the cache files for Bing (Bing and Live Search). Once I did that, Bing was back in the lineup.
Thanks to those that helped me with this frustrating problem.

Please help explain/build database of services/apps that auto-run on HTCs

This list came from my Sprint CDMA TouchPro 2. I am interested in knowing what each item does, dependencies (if any), and what would stop working if I disable it (or if I should/shoudn't). I am trying to track down a high CPU utilization bound to shell32 and services. I am also simply interested in stopping services that are not needed. I Googled many, most don't show up with anything useful.
I would appreciate any information. I will put information next to the item I know something about. As folks respond/contribute, I will update this list. If you have a service you like to add, I will do those too.
ALSO: How to I keep the HTC CommManager.exe from starting/running automatically? I am not using TF3D.
Many thanks.

snovvman, thanks for compiling this detailed list of services. I am having the same issue with Manila 2.5 (build 1920) on top of WM 6.5 (build 21869)...With my device (X1i), 'services.exe' and 'filesys.exe' are always struggling for 100% CPU.
If anyone else could layout whether or not these services are critical to a stable operating environment, please let us know!
Thanks in advance...
interesting in meaning of:
\windows\startup\
AudioManager_Eng.lnk
BTTrayCE.lnk
DelWMPTempFolder.lnk
HTCStartUp.lnk
PKG.lnk
poutlook.lnk
thank.
I have tried to delete some of these. Basically I think:
AudioManager_Eng.lnk (this just starts the Sense music player so it checks for new tracks. Disabling it just means that there is a small pause when you play music on the player the first time from reboot)
BTTrayCE.lnk (I don't have this, so I guess it is part of something you have downloaded or something cooked into the rom)
DelWMPTempFolder.lnk (I guess this is just some kind of cleaning program, again which I don't have, but it must clean some files following a reboot)
HTCStartUp.lnk (I have this and disabling it seems to have no ill effects)
PKG.lnk (I have this and disabling it seems to have no ill effects)
poutlook.lnk (I have this and disabling it seems to have no ill effects)
DTPT/dtpt_srv.dll (Active-Sync Desktop Pass-Through for network connection)
SqmUpload/sqmsvc.dll (Customer experience upload service) ##try it on manual start. I think it does nothing valuable to me.##
PhoneExt/PhoneExt_Service.dll (Guessing I need this one? For extended phone functions?)
NOTIFICATIONMANAGER/NotificationManager.dll (So I can get notification popups??)##I have put mine on manual start because I don't like the HTC Notification Manager. This is the one which fills the screen with black & tells you you are connected to O2, Bluetooth etc (not the Comm Manager). If you disable it or put it on manual start, you just get the old Windows pop-up telling you the same thing##
HTCVOLUME/HTCVolumeControl.dll (The HTC volume control panel??)##I guess so, so if you don't like the HTC volume control and prefer the little Windows one, then put this on manual start or delete it##
EnlargeStartMenu/htcStartMenuService.dll (Self-explainatory, I think)##I think so too!##
BTHIDSVC/bthidsvc.dll (BT Human Interface Devices? Keyboard?) ##I think so. I read in the rom cooking section that this was pretty useless##
I also have HTCGeoSrvc, BthAsPlugin (which helps with Activesync over bluetooth), Windows Live and GPSPrivacy which I have put on manual start instead of automatic and again, this seems to have no ill effects

Cool, proof that Carrier IQ affects Windows Mobile too!

The Cure for the windows Marketplace blues

After Installing one NRG's Energy roms I was happy as hell. There was minor problems which I was able to resolve but one Windows Marketplace. Today I made the effort to solve this too and I did and I'm passing the information on to everyone else that has this same problem so enjoy the marketplace in two minutes from now.
Source- http://www.dasmirnov.net/blog/windows-mobile-marketplace-on-a-cooked-custom-rom
"Well the Diamond was running a stock ROM, on my phone however typically I flash a custom ROM after a while. With this ROM the Marketplace application would simply fail when checking for updates, stating it was unable to connect with an error something like this:
Marketplace could not connect to the server. Please check your connection and try again.
One of the checks the Marketplace application seems to make us having a look at your version information. A lot of custom ROMs put thier own string in, which seems to be upsetting it. To check, open up your favourite registry editor and make your way to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Versions and change Aku to .5.3.00
And then soft reset and give it a go.
I applied these setting, reset and hello Marketplace.
ON my Rom the AKu was set to NRG, I changed it to .5.3.00 reset and now life is complete.
Mine works
Hi all
I've just opened WM Market place and was notified of an update to MySpace App. It's installing now. The AKU version in the Registry is
5.0.82, which I believe is correct as per the WM build.
Many thanks
andrew-in-woking
Looks like there was some kind of update to the Windows Marketplace app and it tried to download it but it keeps failing. I did the registry update previously and WM Marketplace was working fine until this update. Is there some other changes that need to be made?
Thanks.
Has anyone been able to use Windows Marketplace today on a flashed ROM?

[Q] T-Mo HTC Touch Pro 2 "Instant Messaging" app for WM 6.5 - reinstall?

I've had errors with T-Mo "Instant Messaging" app (in the official WM 6.5 rom) for the Touch Pro 2, for a few days, but now it refuses to even load at all. It just pops up an error message, giving me the option to send or not send a report to Microsoft, then exits back to HTC's UI.
Has anyone successfully made a cab to just reinstall this "Instant Messaging" app, in the hopes that reinstalling it will remove whatever issue is causing this error? I've tried a couple of third party IM apps, and don't care for them. I just want the app from the official WM 6.5 rom. Alternately, I DO have a file-by-file copy on my PC...does anyone know if just copying some particular file(s) over the copies on the phone itself should fix the issue?
I like the app's functionality, and I've gotten used to its particular menus and such. I just want to be able to reinstall it, without having to reinstall the whole rom and do a hard reset. Someone PLEASE help me!
