Keyboard issues on the s720?? - HTC Vox

I am coming accross keyboard issues on the s720 i just picked up a few days ago. At first I thought it was the 3rd party app I was trying to install (MinduIM). Basically, it installs fine, but once you try to use the app, you find out any key that has a number associated to it when FN key is enabled, will not work. For example R, D, C, etc on the slider keyboard. I then tried to install 3 more apps and came accross the same issues.
I heard there was a fix for another HTC model, but when I tried that on mine, it just locked it up and would not start the phone anymore. Thank god I was able to remove it.
Anyone come accross this issue or know a fix?

Sounds to me like a problem with the Keyboard driver, like I had with my qwertz and caps, but I don't know where you could get a new version. Maybe (it's just another radio right?) you should try the MoDaCo cab for new et9 it was a newer version of the driver, but it could also lock it again. Look in the thread of the New Guava ROM, in the first post he put in a link to it!
EDIT:
Here you go: http://ostiedbrosse.free.fr/Xda-Dev/MoDaCo_Vox_eT9_Language_Pack.cab

can this hack work with wm pro devices also?

Questions about rom's for FUZE

I just flashed my first rom every. I have FUZE and flashed the PROven. Read the wiki's etc. Got everything to work like but one think I noticed was that the slide out keyboard inputs do not match the layout of the FUZE. I assume it was because the rom was made off the Touch PRO and not the fuze. It certainly had everything I needed but that might be a deal breaker for my wife. Would like to know if any rom's have the correct keyboard mapping or is this typical.
Thanks,
Cheeze.
by the way I forgot to mention that I did see that there was a fix for the keyboard problem I mentioned above but I do not yet know how to run a cab file. I am looking for that know in the forums.
cab's are like .exe's on a computer...just put it inside ur phone, and run it

Polaris - GPS unit missing !?

Hello !
I have a Polaris/TC with TomTom7 installed. It has worked fine but
suddenly when I try to use TomTom I got the message "GPS-unit missing"
I have downloaded "quick_GPS" several times, done soft reset, checked that
internal antenna is used in TT etc. but no luck !
Please help me with some ideas for toubleshooting, I realy liked my TomTom !
/Staffan
Hm, could be hardware error... or, hopefully, borked COM settings in TomTom.
So first try COM settings (check what settings TomTom requires).
Then try some other NAV software (any would be good, even freeware - there's a lot of them. Google Maps might do).
Then you might try pain-in-the-ass option of hard reset.
If after that it's not working, then only repair remains...
Thanks for answer my question.....
Im always in a hurry, so I uppdated my TC to wm 6.1 and after that
TomTom decided to work again ! (donĀ“t ask me why)
BUT ! as an old guy (56) its not so easy to remember every thing, I forgot to
backup my phone...and my numbers to the sim-card
So I have had a nice evening recover all phone-numbers.....
I have another issue, I have eraesed the standard TomTom from
TC and installed a better one.
Now I how to get the shortcut for TT on the start/main screen ??
Ah... I'm not much younger (49), but as IT manager I ALWAYS do backup...
You have not erased TT (uninstalled, temporary... since it's part of official ROM. So it's gone untill next hard reset).
I use standard HTC Home plugin, so I added my GPS software (iGO) as one of the shortcuts on tab 3.
However, you can use Windows Commander Mobile to easily put shortcut to anything practically anywhere.
Or you can simply select TT and add it to Start menu instead of something else...
If I may ask, where did you get you version of WM 6.1 (HTC, XDA-Devs etc)? If XDA, which particular one of the various "cooked" (I think thats the term..) ROMs. I have been looking at upgrading recently and would value your opinon on the version you are using..
Cheers,
IJ
My WM 6.1 is from HTC site.
Since my device was never SIM-locked, I was able to upgrade existing 6.0 to 6.1.
I have heard that most SIM-locked devices were not allowed to upgrade from HTC site.
Have not yet tried cooked ROMs...
My opinion of upgrading to 6.1 is stated somewhere on this forum... just search for my posts...

do not use Q9 Chinese input method

I am a Q9 fan. Q9 is my favorite input method for Chinese, developed in HK. I have been using it since my Palm PDA days, upgrading from version to version. Never have had any trouble.
The latest Q9 version is said to work on WM6.5. After installing on HD2, things look fine, except that the "new line" and "backspace" keys give a long string of gibberish. And not just from Q9. These two keys from any input method (eg including Swype) give the same results. So I unistall Q9. Then HTC Sense went crazy. Several input methods (including the built-in Touch) are lost. Many Sense screens mysteriously became WM6 screens. In general, things aren't operational even after power off reboots.
So I did a complete restore and report the case to www.q9tech.com
But until they figure out what happened, don't try it with your Leo.
Just installed a new version of PPC 6.5 (posted on Apr-2010) and everything goes fine. You may try the new one on your HD2

Do you have swype? last time I was testing with them, I found that if Swype is not installed, Q9 works fine, but if Swype is, then it went into problems.
If you want traditional Chinese input for HKG or Taiwan, you can simply just flash your HD2 with the Chinese official rom. I didn't want to go though all those trouble finding a program to write Chinese, so I just flash my phone with official Taiwan HD2 rom. The down side of this is that you cannot use swype with the chinese rom.

android 2.1, Japanese support or not?

Hi there,
I've been trying to find a definitive answer for this some time now but I can't seem to find one.
Does android 2.1 support a japanese IME? If I use google it tells me this: http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.1.html
Which means that there is a Japanese IME. Atleast there is one for devs... But when I get my HTC Legend from Europe will it also come with the IME and keyboard installed? I know that in case its not there are some keyboards on the market but what I've seen on it they don't seem to be that good. Or could a app like more locale trick anroid into displaying the keyboard?
If I remember correctly the japanese IME from the Japanese Magic set is floating about.
Do a search for iWnnIME. (Note: no font replacement necessary, the Droid Fallback font has Japanese inside)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=526085
http://my.opera.com/wiz/blog/2009/06/16/how-to-install-japanese-ime-on-android (this seems to work on my unit, don't know about you...)
Note that this does NOT fix a bug that's been around since 1.6 that affects your music player. The Android Media Scanner software doesn't handle non-English characters correctly, and hasn't done so for, um, ever.
Yes I found that site too. But it seemed I found a older article as the one I read before said you had to have a rooted device. Now the legend is also rooted but still... it wasnt when I first read it
I dont have my legend yet, it should be coming next week so I don't really understand what I have to do yet (I suppose I just have to boot the sdk app on the phone and type in the commands?) but I'm sure that will become more clear when I got the phone.
*bump*
Before ordering the Sprint HTC EVO, I would like to know this too.
simeji
search the Market for an app called simeji, its a full IME with a bunch of options, my g/f loves it!

Awesome! That worked perfectly! FYI, for those that find this thread later on, there are many apps that come up when you search on "Simeji". At the very top should be two exact matches:
Simeji
Simeji Classic
Both have a mushroom icon.
The "Classic" version is for Andriod 1.5. The non-Classic version is for Andriod 1.6 and later.
I installed it on Andriod 2.1 today, and it worked great! Has great instructions after you install it.
Yes I installed it too and its pretty good. But sometimes the hauptic feedback doesnt work perfectly when typing and I don't like how there doesnt seem to be a option to hide the keyboard.

How to install Swype and get it working.

Discalimer: While this has worked for me and many others, it may not work for you so be careful and remember to always back up your data.
Well after much searching for instructions on how to install Swype and get it working without the various errors and crashing i have decided to write up this little tutorial... 'Why do we need a tutorial?' you ask. well since my first attempt at installing Swype i have gone thorugh 2 hard resets and a new Rom.
I have also found a 'fixed' cab, after attempting to use a cab rip from the tmous version and screwing over my phone.
Some of these swype cabs are a bit buggy and can cause temporary errors in your registry that screw-up anything that is encrypted, this includes saved passwords for applications and more importantly the windows unlock password.
This may not happen in your installation but it's better to be safe than sorry and can be enabled after we have finished installing.
So before we even begin installation navigate your way to Settings > Security > Phone lock and then untick the box that says 'Prompt if phone unused for...'
Download the fixed-Swype cab if you have not done so already, i have to say thanks to whoever it was that made this, and is available here on xda-forums.
Cab:
Fixed-Swype-HTCBlackBird-3.9.10.10.5032.CAB
(No i will not put the fileup for public download, just search for it).
connect your HD2 to your computer and copy the cab over to the device into which ever folder you like.
now pick-up your phone and using your prefered file explorer navigate to the directory you just placed the cab in and open it.
During install you MUST make sure that you select to install the software to your 'Device' and NOT to the storage card.
Once the installation is complete your phone will prompt for a restart, select cancel and return to your file explorer.
Now navigate to the internal memory and then to the Windows directory in here will be a new folder named Swype, select it and then from the menu select copy.
Now go up out of the Windows directory but remaining in the internal storage navigate to Program Files.
Inside the Program Files directory paste the Swype folder.
Now perform a soft reset and swype should now be succesfully installed, to test swype open a blank message or word document, when the standard keyboard opens, click the small arrow next to the keyboard icon on the menu bar and select Swype.
Enjoy.
Great write up. Must admit i had many problems installing the v3.9 and had to hard reset to fix it. Your last steps about cancelling the restart and copying the folder is what is different.
Must admit though, i just installed the v2.0 from the Omnia and found it typed faster (this is compared to when i did have v3.9 working). Also with 3.9 the number selection when holding down a certain key hardly ever worked, works all the time with 2.0 so i just stuck with that. With a skin it looks not bad either even though 3.9 does have the better appearance etc.
may it also work for my touch pro 2 ?
Thanks in advance
There is actually a new version of Swype floating around... installing it seems to be pretty easy. And the bugs of the version which is mentioned above are solved, too. Just google for "IME_Swype_3_19_20_20_6343_0.cab" and you will find it.

I wouldn't like to say as i only have tried this on the HD2, but as long as you back-up and are prepared to re-enter all your passwords you could always try.

thanks for the info i may have to check it out if i get a chance.
There are actually 4 versions of swype floating around for use on the HD2.
The Omnia II version: works well but keys are small and just looks too plain.
The fixxed 3.9.10.10.5032 blackbird edition: Ripped from TMOUS. Much more pleasing to the eye. Long presses do not always work. (ex: holding for numbers). It changes your phone ID to T-Mobile_Leo. This it what locks you out of your phone if you have it passworded and causes you to hard reset. Disable password before installing. It also destroys settings for email and router pass keys. It also deletes passwords for installed applications like Resco and SPB. Also had to run through internet connection setup again. And who knows what else.
Another version of 3.9.10.10.5032 by LordYuz: This has been fixxed to not change your phone ID. Won't destroy your passwords or lock you out of your phone. Long presses still do not work well.
IME_Swype_3_19_20_20_6343_0: Also ripped from new TMOUS HD2. Again this version changes your phone ID and will cause damage as stated above. Not sure if long presses are fixxed with this version or not. Hoping LordYuz gets his hands on this version and fixxes it too.

I was of the same opinion but maybe its in my head but im sure it works better. It just seems to respond quicker, flow a bit better.
I also installed the Lessro skin, looks much better, better than the stock 3.9 in my opinion, dont even notice the keys appearing smaller and at the end of the day its a straight install, no special instructions required at all and the long key presses actually work so its practicality vs appearance..........i know what i prefer..............thats until of course they actually release a proper fully working 3.9 with all features working properly.

Refer to my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=684198&page=2 post #12
whilst v2.0 (omnia version) is floating around everywhere (google easily finds it), this is the newer released v3.9 by LordYuz which fixes the previous 3.9. works great. It is larger to install but go into the swype folder in the Windows directory, del the tutorial, its almost 10mb alone to save space
I used almost all of them including the fixed version ended up hard reseting twice, until I came across swype V.2 which I am enjoying it now a lot.
I have version 6343 with the Eleganicia ROM on WM 6.5.5 base. It works perfectly with long press, but the allignment is off due to the bigger taskbar. Any ideas on how to adjust it?

You probably used this version 3.9.10.10.5032.
Are you sure you tried the newest being Swype 3.19.20.20.6343.
Im using this no problem in terms of changing the phone ID, passwords etc and others have commented the same.
anyone has an ideea how to have romanian language?
So far, Swype is only 5 languages... to implement any other is not an easy job. Hopefully Swype will officially make an offer soon, with more languages. I think many people would buy it if the price is reasonable.

The omnia version does not lag when using htc messaging's conversation mode (with +50 message in a conversation). I installed the new stock ROM and this new swype version fixes the long press key problem, but it still lags pretty bad. My first question is, how do you check the swype version on the HD2? Secondly, does the newest swype version fix the lag problem?

Agreed, when i used to use the 2.0 (omnia version), it was simple and fast, just didnt look as good without a skin and the keys were a bit smaller.
Although in saying that, i have just flashed with a new aftermarket ROM which has the omnia swype already cooked in, v2.0 and it runs sweet.
Few days prior when i ran the latest swype i didnt have any lag on a stock 1.48 rom not sure why you got a lag problem. I also have hundreds of sms's but it worked good for me, i liked the new version as it just seemed built for our phones, larger keys, sound and vibration feedback, long key presses and even deleting words holding the backspace key down erased words etc. Overall very nice.
To check swype version, go to settings, personal, input and when you select swype, there is an about button top left. tells you there.
I have 4 questions...basically how to reset swype and how to guess which version is running.
QUESTIONS:
1.
how can I know which swype version i am running? from which menu? or settings or where?
2. How to install a dictionary, for example ITALIAN Dictionary? (I have the Italian cab, but installation does not work)
I have two HD. The old one HTC-HD2, NOT T-mobile (running an old 6.5.3 cooked rom) has a modified swype in which sometimes (50% of times) long pressing does NOT result in a number to be typed. But it has ITALIAN language.
My new HD2 t-mobile has probably a omnia version (smaller keys) and long press ALWAYS work. Unfortunately it only has only ENG and SPANISH dictionaries, NOT ITALIAN. I have tried to install Italian cab (following a thread here) but it is NOT recognized as a legitimate dictionary.
3.
How to reset swype? In fact after 3 or more months, the OLD HD2 has this problem: I have accidentally hit od and i3 and press space. these 2 mistyped words are now part of the ENGLISH dictionary, right? then what happens, every time i type OF I get OD (as default choice) and same for IF: I get i3...so I wish to reset the internal dictionary. How to do it?
4.
The NON-omnia swype, in the 3rd screen (click 123-SYM key 3 times), has an option "SELECT ALL", The Ommia-version of swype does NOT have this option. Is there a way to add in omnia-version of swype?
5.
The english dict has this word TYPO. Each time I swype TO the system ALWAYS enter TYPO...how to correct this behaviour? I wish to eliminate TYPO from dictionary. there are instructions on how to do. but these instructions do not work...
Thanks and waiting
Saulo
I have tried to turn back to defaults, under options, but no improvements...if someone knows how to reset to original settings, I would really appreciate...
Thanks
Saulo
