Hi,
I've got a magic from TIM but i'm leaving in belgium. I'm running MyHero 2.0.5
By two times, my handset requested me to reboot my phone for a 'system update'. Both attempt failed.
The phone reboots then an icon representing a package update then a a failure sign. The only way to get back the phone was to remove the battery.
My question:
Where can i find the package that android tries to install....is there a log somewhere where the failure is reported ?
Thanks
Ced
If you're running a custom rom and trying to install an OTA it isn't going to work. The OTA is only compatible with the stock OS. If you have root and manage to get an OTA to install then you will lose it. I'd say to just ignore the updates. If your phone is working the way you want it then I would leave it as is. If you want anything different then you'll need to flash something!

motorola has released recently an update for the milstone
every time i download this update (OTA) it downloaded successfully but when i hit install the phone restarts then starts to unpack then the phone boots with the message update failed so
i pulled the downloaded file from /cache/FOTA/update.zip
and tried to apply it using open recovery and i got the following massage
E:could not find update-binary
i guss it is the recovery i use
so please help me installing this update
ps: i will post the link to the update.zip as soon as i upload it
you may want to use the motorola software update tool installed to your pc. I also encountered the same problem as yours, but when i did this method, i was able to update my phone. hope this helps.
i have forget to mention that when i use the software it tells me that there is no update for my phone
Any change in this update anyway?
Thanks.
ya i heard it make u lose root for good closes loop holes in software don't do it!!
I updated via PC (MotoConnect) and lost root, but 2.1 root method still works, so I just rooted it again..
The battery usage from new firmware patch is crazy; 50% gone overnight. The most of usage is from "phone Idell". I should wait.
That's most likely a one time deal: I had similar in the update from 2.0.1 to 2.1 (or was it 2.0 -> 2.0.1..?). First night almost ran the battery dry, but after the next recharging cycle (and maybe a reboot) things were normal again. That's actually a fairly common issue judging from various milestone/android forums..
Also: all I noticed after this update was a small increase in battery life :]
Hi Peter,
are you in 3G or 2G mode?
I'm mostly on 2G.
Hi guys
I've just recieved the new security update from HTC, but when I try to install it the phone shuts down, and a white triangle with an ! mark and a little droid man standing by it apears and nothing happens. The only way I can turn the phone back off to reboot is by removing the battery.
Have any of you experienced problems with the new OTA?
My phone is rooted, but with stock ROM and nothing other than the stock font has been changed on the phone, so I can see emoji characters.
I've also tried to download the update a few times, to make sure I didn't download a currupt file or something, but it doesn't help either.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
Edit:
Well I found out that I could boot with CWM Recovery and force install of the OTA from the download folder problem fixed!
hey how can i get this update to download it. im`
s-off rooted but i dont have the stock rom. by updating this update i will lose my root?
can i root back like i did?
I doubt you can get the update when you have a custom ROM.
Hi,
A while back I rooted and unlocked using clockwork recovery and installed bigxie_magurTA_JRO03C-signed.zip
All was good for a while until the last month where I continually receive notification to update to 4.1.2
when I choose install, it attempts to reboot and on the recovery mode, I attempt to run the /sdcard/update.zip and it fails due to signature verification failure.
When I disable the signature verification, it states it cannot open the update file as if it is corrupt or not there,
I then tried to put on cyanogen mod, and when that loaded, I could not enter in my gmail profile info.
I then installed gapps on the next attempt to install cyanogen mod 10 and although more apps (google play app) was listed, still could not enter my gmail info anywhere
i have gone back to the 4.1.1 install I mentioned earlier, and it is running fine, but I am still prompted to update, which fails every single time.
Any suggestions on how to update this, I would be happy to go with cyanogen mod, but no idea really where to start.
I searched for the same error messages I was getting, and found a few posts but not solutions or recommendations,
Also, is this going to happen for every single update from this point on since rooting and unlocking the phone? i would prefer to give up more app control if going back to stock builds means not having to give up this much time for every update.
Thanks to anyone that can help.
Hi everyone, new guy here.
I'm rooted and currently running 9.18.79 with Verizon. I'm trying to install the 9.18.94 OTA update, but it fails everytime. After I select "Install Now" it reboots and starts to install, but then I get the Android robot on its back with the red triangle. The phone then reboots again and I get a message that says the software update failed. What's the secret to updating when rooted (while also making sure to still have root access afterward)?
Thanks...

You cannot be rooted or you must hide root w/ voodoo or super su. Also you must use stock recovery.
the update will not actually fail if you are rooted, although it may report failing.
if it actually fails, you can obviously see it doesnt go through the process, then there is some other factor causing it to fail.
some things that would cause it to fail all together are: non stock recovery, freezing any bloat, removing any bloat, pretty much any modifications to the stock software other than rooting will cause it to fail.
once you have any system deficiencies fixed, use voodoo from the market to protect root and temp unroot before taking the update.
if you cant figure out what you did to the system to fix it, you may want to re-flash using the proper utility for your current system, re-root, protect and temp unroot through voodoo, then try the update again.
Thanks for the replies.
The primary reason I rooted in the first place was to remove a ton of unwanted bloatware, so at this point it's not even close to resembling the stock software. What are my options? Do I really have to re-install everything I deleted, or is it possible to flash the whole system back to stock?

you can flash the hole system using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2474393 get the 1.33 version to match what you are on or the 1.34 to go right to the version you are trying to upgrade to. either is fine.
So, I think the only thing I've done to my phone was root it using this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/d6603-5-0-2-flashable-stock-23-1-0-690-t3056361
I've been getting the prompt for the Sony upgrade software OTA thing for a while and just ignored it since I didn't want to accidentally break things.
Today, I decided to try to install it (Maybe it was the marshmallow update). My phone rebooted and is now stuck with an error that looks like this:
ERROR - Update Failed
Anyone have any idea how I can fix this?
Also, how would I go about getting updates either to Android or Sony software without breaking anything?
