Disable HTC Sense UI and Lock Screen - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

I want to permanently disable the HTC Sense UI and the HTC slide lock screen. I want to revert back to the original Android UI. Is there a way to achieve this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I can advise you on how to disable SenseUI.
menu>settings>applications>manage applications
Search for HTC Sense, select it, find the clear defaults button. Once you clear defaults, press your home button and select the checkmark and then select home.

Try Gumbo 1.5c Bare. It's a rom as vanilla as possible.

this thread is a bit old. no one uses 1.5 anymore, as even the official 2.1 update is out. if you want AOSP 2.1 then try out Darchdroid. its as vanilla as its gonna get for the Hero

Use the batch file this guy created.. Works great! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=675678&highlight=batch

Is there a better dialer out there?

I have recently moved from a Palm Pre to a G1... so please be nice!
Is there a way to replace the actual dialer on this thing? I hate having to hit menu every time I want to do simple things like turn the speakerphone on and off. Is there an alternative dialer that can be installed to replace the one that my CM 6.0 RC1 ROM came with?
And in similar vein, is there a tool that has can apply various tweaks etc. to the OS? Kind of like Preware for WebOS or Advanced Configuration Tools for WM...
If you are on CM6 RC1 then you can go to Settings>Call Settings and check the Touch UI for a better interface.
Download Dialer One.
I really like aContacts. It's one of my favourite apps so far. Far better than the stock address book and dialer.

try this before you download new dialers it's head over heels better that stock (oh and select left handed mode for a less annoying hold button)
and nothing like preware all those things are built into adw launcher cyanogen settings and spare parts. themes and stuff are found here on xda
Do you know how to integrate or replace default dialer with aContacts? I removed the standard dialer in my rooted X10 and now when I had a missed call and wanted to view it, it said 'Application can't launch standard dialer. Please contact with developer.
Cheers.

[APP] HTC SSD Test Tool

[EDIT] It appears this won't work without special files from the demo unit. Perhaps when custom roms and S-OFF come to light we should be able to get this work further, until then you won't get this to work.
I got this from 0mega's thread from the pre-release /system dump of his phone. I cannot confirm it will even work on a stock Sensation since my Sensation is away for repair so please post if it doesn't work:

Thanks to 0mega1 for the dump and hope it is useful.
Fails to install on my stock sensation atm.
Will keep hold of it

what the app can be used for ?
It did install on mine, and i can find it in the list of apps, but not in the app launcher, does anyone know how to launch this?
This was from a pre-released version of the phone. It's a real shame it doesn't seem to work on the stock sensation. I would have tested it myself but my phone was away for repair and i thought it might just 'work'.
It might need S-OFF, but to be honest i doubt it. I even tried it on my Desire HD in case it worked on other phones but it just force closes.
I was wondering, if anyone might be able to use this via ADW or something. Since you said you can find it in the list of apps, you might be able to do a custom shortcut in a 3rd party launcher and then direct that shortcut to that tool to launch it? Just a thought. I was able to do that with ADW on my stripped version of Sense 3.0 on my Thunderbolt so I could edit the lockscreen shortcuts without actually needing the Rosie launcher.
Hmm is this the same as the HTC Function test program 1.0? if so you launch it with *#*#DIAG#*#* I can test the screen, buttons, system info, battery run down test, camera, audio, vibrator, LED, backlight, HST status.
It's a cool but useless tool

[Q] Sense Issue

I have a small problem with 'HTC Sense' in my stock ROM, when the phone rings and I try to pull it from my pocket, I always found that whether I mistakenly answered or cancelled. This is due to the slide up to cancel or slide down to answer in 'Sense'. Is there anyway to avoid this? or is there any application to allow me have the slide right or left (like the original Android one)? or can I disable 'Sense'?
Thanks in advance for your help

you can try a custom ROM with sense 3.0 ,3.5 or you can try cm7,miui
the lockscreens on these ROMs should prevent this from happening
An alternative that doesn't involve rooting, would be to use a different launcher. This would be the "disable sense" approach.
I recommend Launcher Pro. It has stacks of options, its smooth, and can be skinned/theme like sense.
You'll loose the HTC Widgets, but there are third party alternatives for all of them on the market. Launcher pro also has some Widgets if you buy the full version.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
that's a big inconvenience. One of the prime reasons I rooted. You can try one of the sense ROM Ports.
Sent from my HTC Desire S S510e using XDA App
You will have to use an alternative lock application to prevent this. I use go launcher but still get the sense lockscreen. Use widget locker or any other lock application to prevent getting the sense lockscreen.

Installing Sense 4.0 Roms

I am currently running ARHD 6.6.4 and while it's great, I think I'm getting a little tired of Sense 3.6. My question is that, other than the usual superwiping and flashing the zip, is there anything else I need to do to? I already have the 3.32 firmware.

rather than superwipe..use "format all partitions except sdcard" form 4EXT->wipe|format
that option is very well supported when changing roms
What ROM's are you using?
I've installed this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25154538&postcount=8637
There is already several things that I miss from 3.6.
For instance the application list when pulling down the notifications screen.
Also do I miss the quick settings menu and the task manager. Are these missing only in this port, or is it actually removed as default from the original "Sense 4" ROM on "HTC One X" ?

You don't really need task manager.... Just long press the home ui button
Sent from my Sensation using XDA
I know that this is possible, but you get no cpu/memory statistics or possibility to force close the applications from the program list you'll brows from the home button.
The question was not for if i need them or not.
You don't need chocolate, but you want it and eat it non the less.
It's all about how you actually work with your phone and how you use it.
These features (program list, quick settings and task manager) were really nice, easy and quick to access. So I am really wondering what HTC are doing if they actually are removing nice to have features that's neither bloaty, confusing or in the way.
The question are still if this is actually the same for the original One X ROM and all the other Sense 4 phones, or if this is just removed from the ported ROM?

Hi !
ARHD is definitely a great ROM but one grows tired of the Sense 3.6 look. I really enjoy the deSensed look of some ROMs but those were still buggy. So, the nicest , most balanced alternative I found so far is SharkDrOiD S3 v1.4 which has, I think, all the features you're looking for.
You might want to try it out.
Cheers !

[Q] How to make recently opened Apps appear in the Curtain

Hi Everyone,
My wife owns a HTC Desire HD (non-rooted, standard ROM, etc - much to my disgust!), and on it she is running Ginger Bread (Android 2.3). I notice when she pulls the "curtain" down that her recently opened Apps are stored at the top. This is a very handy feature, as when she closes an App she simply goes back to the curtain and starts from where she left off.
I on the other hand own a HTC Sensation, with Elegancia Sense 4 ROM installed (as per my signature below), and the only icon that I see at the top of my curtain is the settings button. I would really like to see recently used Apps in my curtain, as currently I need to go to the Apps menu, and then click on the App that way, or alternatively find the App on one of my "Desktops" and then click on it there. A simple slide and touch is better than constant tapping in my opinion.
If anybody knows how to add recently used Apps to the curtain whilst using Elegancia can you please let me know how?
Kind Regards,
Davo
Well I don't use elgancia but the reason you don't see that recent apps its because its set that way as default I assume. I don't know if that tom includes 'tweaks' but you can change that feature there

Do you specifically want this exact method of accessing recent apps?
There's a more convenient way too.
Long press the home button.
If you specifically want the apps to appear in the notifications pull down menu, I doubt you can. There probably aren't any tweaks that do it either.
The recent apps was a feature in Sense 3.x , so if it's really that important to you, flash a Sense 3.x ROM

Aye, long press of the home button will do the trick.
You should then be able to swipe the apps that appear to the right to rid of them if you want.
