Basically I wasn't overly impressed when I saw the iphone in terms of what it did, because it doesn't do anything my WM5 doesn't. the only thing I was impressed at was the interface, the total touch screen etc(altho it is missing a qwerty key board which I couldn't live with out). One part of the touch screen interface that I was the most impressed with was the finger dragging, scrolling! But this can be done on WM5 devices because I've already downloaded Sygic's .mobile which allows you to do it through your contacts.
So Basically I'm sure that one of the many clever programmers on here could write a little program that allows you to use finger scrolling where ever a scroll bar is needed? I.e. file emplorer, music menu(windows media player), text message list, photos, etc.
Or if someone knows where I could get such a program from?
Thanks
this would be sweet because we windows fans wouldn't have to convert to the darkside.
just like the early dayds of apple.....microsoft swoops in and reinvents the game. but only thing it aint microsoft doing this.
why buy a new phone when u can take the guts of it and dump it into your own
good job on the programers you guys rock.
Check this video out, the guy has done just that!
http://techdigest.tv/2007/02/watch_the_iphon.html
I've seen that video already, but thanks. it was that and the program .mobile that made me hope that someone on here would be able to do it for the rest of the windows mobile platform! if I was talented enough I'd do it myself but this is way beyond me. i just think it would be a great to be able to navigate menus and list and make life a lot easier.
Can we download it from somewhere?
Download What?
that GUI seen on that video.
the best program to make it look like that is wisbar desktop but it costs! has for the menu scrolling i haven't got a clue thats why i was hoping someone may be able to write a program on here for it

Agree, i used the wisbar advance, but the scrolling gui was amazing!
I am wondering how he did it?
it was, but i don't know how he did it! i know you can down load a program called .mobile and that allows you to scroll through your contact like that, so it clearly can be done! so someone must be able to do it for the rest of the phone?!??!
What is it that can or can't be done guys?
Picsel Browser uses momentum based full screen drag scrolling, amongst other apps. It's not a difficult thing to do. The implementation in the video is particularly nice (if not particularly useful IMHO), but it's not some kind of mystical voodoo. It's just programming.
V
vijay,
I don't think you would be capable of doing this, no way....
(ps: please, please rise to the challenge!)
On a serious note the Universal lacks a scroll wheel which I have always had on my previous PDAs. To be able to have a generic touchscreen based scrolling mechanism would be very useful (ie not just for tracks and contacts, but for everything).
Can anyone post a link to the download of this?
slider lock feature.....
Guys,
According to his website, before it was suspended...
He says he was using
PPL1.20. PPL which can be downloaded for free from http://arianesoft.ca
I downoaded this but have no idea on how to use it to get the same results?
Anyone interested in getting the slider lock portion of that video working?

As explained by Vijay this is just programming. If you dont have programming skills, just forget it. If you do then the technical part is not that difficult. The whole point is more about doinga nice design
Anyway let's hope he will make is work public (The scrolling bar is one thing, but the whole setup is actually nice...)
If anyone has this (doubt the guy gave it out before he got shut down) but in case he did... i would like to get my hands on this...
the point of me starting this thread was to see if anyone on here knew where I could get a program that would allow me to scroll all the menus and lists in my WM5 by dragging my finger across the screen, if there wasn't already a program out there then I wondered if someone could write a program for it? as my skills in this area are nowhere near good enough! I think a program like this with look great but more importantly be really useful, as I use my finger to navigate through most of my phone.
if this is just programing, please can someone with the skills do it????
Thanks
the m600-iphone clon demovideo is no longer available at youtube....

INTERESTINGLY.. this guy is a Malaysian (Chinese). . and I would have thought such geeky move ought to be from the States.
well i have a spare wizard to try this on if some one can direct me on what software to use. i have some spare time lol
Ok, Im working with the mUn edition of WM6. Anyone know how he disabled all but the password setup screen?
Ok i found only one instance pointing to welcome.exe which is supposed to launch this. help me out. what does this registry key mean?
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSWELCOME]
"3"=dword:0
"2"=dword:0
"1"="welcome.exe"
"0"="Welcome"
Yeah', i'd like to help out, as i started to think about cooking My own rom'',
mUn's may be one of better choices since it's quite clean and so on..
But what else was there about "calling chefs?'"
1. clean,
2. well documented(as i pointed out in mobiz edition thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298692 )
3. STABLE(working Most BASIC Functionalities like Wifi, MMS, Sim card phonebook usability)
I found that 98% of battery drain problems i've heard thus far were all caused by some today component, or other app that worked in background, and only when certain setting had been changed did ALL started to be baad.
"all of a sudden"
Keep up a GOOD WORK, set some clear objective what goal/ target do You want to achieve with this rom(speed, stability, minimality, cleaningness, usability>) so people will know what to expect and not to be dissappointed..
I am a little tired of: "my rom is faster than yours" approach..
i'd rather hear: this rom "feels" quicker in response, and is stable(optionally rock solid )
Hope that this "clean fixed" rom will have soon "a definitive guide" with recommended installs(freeware for ex.) to have as a start clean, stable rom, and greatest funcionality(additionall free soft installable by user),
Just so our Wizards will Stop being "toys" and will become TOOLS with a "LOT" extra(not just little extra).. as i read the other day of "one of us" giving it to his 14 year old daughter(nothing against young people, or girls), just..
i want to use a solid TOOL, even if I will goof off with it, and use it like 14 year old.
Cheers to ALL out ther Working, so WE CAN Enjoy our micro computers.

Here is what I am trying to accomplish, I want to make the mUn's edition as stripped as possible keeping it together but giving a solid building ground for other chefs and also a good clean playground for users who just want a ROM without the mess. Once I accomplish 2 or 3 more things the Ultimate Fixed mUns version will be released. First I have got to get this welcome thing fixed. Until then, Im not even working on anything else for the ROM
Wow.. : )
That's a VERY GOOD approach there..
A step by step.
That's how some things CAN Get done : )
Thanks Man : )
I Think We all can use that : )
I'd like to start some kind of central repository/ interactive table with a Comparison of diffrent roms :futures, prog version, posssible issues: strong points, weak points.
There had already been so many threads like: best freeware soft for wizard, and since there are unorganized comments all over thread finding usefull, NOT Doubled application names, links, descriptions, becomes very hard if not impossible.
Some kind of ranking of apps ?
that may be more to xda-dev guys/ site owner/administrator if it could be incorporated into structures of BB
Possibly it could look like auto rom cooker, that i've seen for some older pda..
maybe it could be crossreferenced for different platforms, like alpine, wizard, himalaya, but centrally connected to one database so more data will be gathered and make it more universal: sometimes guys from another forum know of some software, that other users of WM5/6 could find usefull, but do not have time to go to every of 5 000 threads looking for a(good, or any in that case) free MMS Backup utility !?
.. found a couple of utils. for sms backup, saying they will back up email, sms, and mms.. well, they do only sms,
and considering that i have flashed my wizadr about 15 times during last week.., trying to use wizard as primary phone and keep track of contacts, is impossible without efficient backup system ..
Yet so many soft is being installed without EVEr knowing what for, and or how to use it and are already on the rom cooked.
Some are being used everyday during normal operations and which use and "fixed problems credit"are being given to a "new WM system"
I think it should be a cross(bow)referenced, or interweaved: forum and WIKI so forum will become more organized and more usefull to the community. And WIKI part will give ability to add more descriptions, and make building a database of app references, usage, and rating without making it all unclear and timewaste for scrolling through .. well an "off topic" comments , opinions still could be added under interactive portion of wiki..for all who like to get and give opinions(like youtube's sectioned view: 1.video,2.related videos, 3 comments, 4 unrelated latest videos.
: 1.File, app, or rom reference portion, 2.related threads/topics, comparisons, 3. forum comments thread 4. unrelated threads, comments, apps, comparisons/ news.
with system like this we all could save some serious time and not get overloaded by unnecessary info.
/time to get some rest
Cheers!

How about we call it xdawiz? I already own the domain and have a forum up. Ill let you put it together and make you a super moderator if you want. I am working with my own cooked mess for rom building and i have it down to 2 batch files, baring the fact you dont screw up. then there are a couple more if you do. Been trying to write an app but got too caught up in the muns release.
As it sits, i cant really get involved in another project until i get my welcome issue fixed.

I think it's a good idea to at least keep the screen alignment wizard in after a hardreset because I heard the the screen would be useless otherwise.
NTS, are you trying to re-enable it?
In terms of clean, it would be nice to have the original keyboard back as well as no other themes. THAT is a clean ROM. If all of the registry fixes are in there, then we all have something to work with.
JMHO.

Keyboard is nice even if it's not original. It's still clean though.
@NotTooSmart: check your PM, I found something I might be useful to solve this.
I strongly believe that the ROM should be as close as possible to that which should have been released by M$. I do think the keyboard ought to be an option (a separate cab file), but in order to have a TRULY vanilla ROM, that and other extras cannot be included. If you include the keyboard, then it's just a matter of time before everything else ends up finding it's way in along with it.

I hear ya..
Well, doing that would be something really good, but i would like to do this project in a most usefull way: of greatest benefit for all, and i am not sure if setting up a separate web page is a good idea, or maybe integration into xda-developers could do it../
would it be possible to set it up in a way, so that other site could use databases /to display INSIDE of forum structure..
If so, than we could have some serious interest comming from other good sites that will be interested in an UNIFIED approach to reviewing and inputting evaluated data.
As far as Keyboard..the skin.. yes it is cool, but for some reason problem arose with being unable to use phone pad: as it is not switching to it: staying at "cool skin"..
maybe some file is missing for that functionalty to be enabled..?

I have fixed the phone pad issue. That was easy. I have tested and it is working on my phone right now. The only issue I have with making this a truly vanilla rom is, I didnt do any of the work to the base os. I can remove the Aero and any other tag marks set in by mun, but this will still be his rom, but instead of calling it repacked, we gonna call it stripped. LOL. As for the keypad, that is easy to change, but again, then i am taking things out that make this muns rom. Unless I get his ok, I cant do that.

These things are in my head before they hit paper. As for now, i need to fix the damn welcome screen. Someone took my thread in a diffrent direction. LOL.
are you trying to make so it skips some of the screens when you first flash it
if so is that much of chore to to tap a few more extra taps when flashing a rom

No, lol. I want to make it so you have to go through the whole setup rather than only doing the alignment and password. I want the ability to setup the email, timezone, date, all of it.

is it a modifed welcome.exe? I've never looked into it much, but if i run welcome.exe on Faria's rom all i get is screen alignment not the initial setup.

Request a ROM - What would you like in a ROM? (Idea by Mr. Ill)
Have you been using the ROM's on XDA frequently, but you think everyone could benefit from an application or setting cooked into a ROM? Well, the cooks will be reading this thread, and if a cook likes the idea, they will pick it up, and either feature it in their next ROM release, or create a new ROM with it.
Instead of flooding ROM threads with requests, lets just centralize them all here! Feel free to ask for anything. If you don't get a response, then maybe the cooks didn't like the idea. If you think it's a brilliant idea, and you still didn't get a response, you could ask for it again, because a cook might have missed it.
For a list of existing ROM's, visit The Wingster.
Now, if none of the ROM's fit your needs, please, go ahead and make some suggestions below!
Current Requests
Sambalbij - Extendir to be cooked into ROM, because it's supposed to make Windows Mobile 12x faster! (3 cooks have failed at this)
daniel costa rj - Brazilian and Portuguese ROM's! WM6.5 and WM6.1 versions, with Opera Mini, Bluetooth and WiFi working, and finger friendly!
donaspl - A Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM in the Polish language.
In-Progress Requests
DumpyDooby - Remote Tracker to be cooked into ROM's from now on. (Mr. Ill is working on it)
TonyC0642 - A superclean ROM with Manila 2D cooked in. Only programs would be the base WinMo apps, and Network Wizard. Bluetooth apps, Internet Sharing, Windows Media Player, Games, and Lockscreen can be removed. (Mr. Ill has built it, and is testing it with TonyC)
HolyLove02 - Newest build of WM6.5.1 and Latest version of Manila 2D. Also themed to Super Mario Bros. Needs Bluetooth, Internet Sharing, NetCF, MMS, MS Office, and other basics. Likes the "fatty" ROM's. Also including a hefty list of apps. Donating a lot!!! (Mr. Ill is working on it)
Ideas
Rim1Flex - Photoshop Mobile to be cooked in. It's a nice program.
CheeseDave - A quite complete ROM, with various things!
I use Remote Tracker on all of my phones. So my suggestion is to compile the Remote Tracker DLL into ROMs. This would be a neat addition to SJK, actually.
While there is an obvious security issue with everyone having the same Remote Tracker password, this is easily resolved by simply advising everyone to change their password immediately upon first boot. The chef could even keep the password private and only disclose it to people who PM them for it. The neat thing about doing this is it will prevent a thief from doing a hard reset on the phone to disable Remote Tracker.
(by the way, I'm well aware that the Herald doesn't have GPS, but there are other ways of tracking a phone down with Remote Tracker. You can have it forward the thief's SIM info, make it delete all of your contacts, lock access to the MicroSD, and accomplish many other things with the program that would be useful for anyone who had their phone stolen)
I was thinking about putting in Photoshop Mobile in my Roms. It's a nice program.
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/photoshopmobile/
I was trying to get extendir to work, but i'm not experienced so it wouldn't work. A stripped rom with extendir would be great (if extendir makes its expectations come true).

Yeah, I was toying around with that one too. Couldn't figure it out. I didn't spend too much time with it.
I just want a superclean rom with M2D(preferrably 2.0 or better) and that's it. The only thing I would add is Network Wizard. No google maps, no apps of any sort aside from what's there already. In fact, some things could be stripped. Like BT_SAP/BT explorer, internet sharing, WMP(Audio Mgr is better imo), games, Lock(I use s2u2). This may be my first rom, if I can ever figure out how to add packages from other roms to SJK.

Please Help ME get custom.
I would love a ROM that has the newest version of 6.5, and the latest version of Manila Touch Flo.I've been look'n for a Super Mario Bros. Theme for Manila TouchFlo forever!
I've googled it, found one for 3d, but not 2d. I'd love this as a all around theme intergraded throughout the UI.
As far as the nuts and bolts go, I need bluetooth, internet share, Net.CF, MMS, and internet good to go out of the box, MS Office, the basics. I'm also into some of the more "fatty" ROMS. Including:
Microsoft Facebook
Flash Player
Microsoft My Phone
Oxios Memory
My Light (or some other program that is finger friendly back light control.)
HTC Streaming Media
cichy 3000 Link Creator
Twikini (or similar twitter app.)
Evernote
Pandora
Chi-Tai Dang Second Today
Chi-Tai Dang Home Screen PlusPlus (with both, can overclock 6.5 to 299)
Smart Lock
Joel Illgen Phoney Call
Coo Tek Cooperation TouchPal
Pocket MSN
Brins0.net Tonality
SDK CommManager (or just a newer comm manager interface)
Google Maps
To anyone willing to help me get this ROM, I'll DEFINATELY DONATE A GOOD AMOUNT!
Thanks for making this thread. I'm not sure if this is the kind of response/request you're wanting, if not, I apologize, and understand if it's moved.

As for the remote tracker, i can't seem to get it to flash over. It "flashes" fine but nothing on the other end. I tried installing the cab on top of it and it won't let me (Probably because its there somewhere). This work on 6.5 right?

To anyone willing to help me get this ROM, I'll DEFINATELY DONATE A GOOD AMOUNT!
Thanks for making this thread. I'm not sure if this is the kind of response/request you're wanting, if not, I apologize, and understand if it's moved.
If anyone needs the cab files for any of these programs, I'll gladly send them to you.
God Bless.

Yeah wow, good luck with that. That's so bloated I don't think it could physically fit on your phone. And even if it does, good luck multitasking. When it comes to custom ROMs you can't have everything, that's what cab files and a storage card are for.

I think it totaled to 58 MBs. That's reasonable. I've seen bigger NBH's than that.

Not all of it is running at once. Just because something's installed, it's not taking up RAM, unless it's a background proccess app.
Anyways, this is a thread where users can request ROM's! To one person, it's useless, to another, it's amazingly awesome!
You lean toward the slim ROM's, while he leans toward the fatty ROM's. Nothing wrong with that. I personally perfer a strong set of apps to be cooked in. It's very nice having those usefull apps already there, so that you don't have to think about installing them yourself.

I realize that ace, I'm just saying these devices can only do so much, and just because its not running does not mean it isn't taking up space. I would be willing to bet if you built that rom it would have on average less than 15mb of free program memory. And as soon as you open something like skyfire, which is a notorious memory hog, the phone will come to a screeching halt. Storage memory means NOTHING if you don't have the program memory to back it up.
Just to clarify, that's cool if that's what he's into, to each his own. Just know the limitations of your device before demanding so much from it.

Then install CleanRAM on the phone, and schedule it. Problem solved.
It's his ROM, he can deal with the RAM consuption as he wants. I bet he already has all of those apps installed, and you know what, he's was apparently happy enough to have them all installed! He has probably been using that similar setup for a while, and guess what, it seem to work perfectly fine.
thanks man. I like havn the major used apps in the rom so when I have to hard reset my wing (weekly) the time it takes to reinstall everyting is minimal. (normally, apx. 2hrs.)
BIG UPS to ILL!!! the dude did almost exactly what I wanted!!! playn with it now!!!
hey folks. i'm new to this rom cooking thing. i'm using the Kaiser Kitchen. I've loaded a base rom into the folder and run the Begin command prompt. now i'm stuck. i have no idea what OEM/SYS items i can get rid of and what i need to keep. i'm just trying to build an extremely lite rom that has manila 2d with the weather under the clock on the home screen. but i don't want to go and delete something that i need, so i'm not comfortable doing any editing just yet. can anyone give me a breakdown of what this stuff is? or even point me in the right direction if it's already posted (which it probably is, i'm just not sure what to search for)? i'd greatly appreciate it. i'm enjoying this rom cooking quite a bit, but, like i said, i'm pretty new to this. i've never taken any classes or anything, so i don't understand some of the terms/procedures used on this site, so please use layman's terms if you reply to me. again, i appreciate your taking the time to help me out, even if it's just a finger pointing me in the right direction.
Hope it doesn't take you too long to read.
first off what's your base ROM (the ROM that you downloaded and put inside the BaseROM folder) and then I could tell you what to get rid of. By the kaiser kitchen you mean the one from the wiki correct?
I'm going to need more info on how you are putting the weather on the home screen (e.g. CAB, Package. etc.) and your BaseROM to tell you accurately what to do.
as for adding in that weather package, first make sure the manila version you are using is 2.x or more. I would say don't make a package out of the CAB (if that's what you are using to put the weather display on the home page). Instead go into the OEM folder and look for the OperatorPKG folder. Enter the OperatorPKG folder and look for a file named "config_operator.txt" (without the quotes).
Mine looks like this:
LOCK:Enabled
TSK: \WINDOWS\Htc.tsk
CAB: \WINDOWS\AMfix.cab
XML: \WINDOWS\Menu_Operation.xml
CAB: \WINDOWS\fixyoutube.cab
CFG: \WINDOWS\config_PT.txt
I'm positive yours will look different. Pay attention to the "CAB: \WINDOWS\"insert CAB file name here"
What you are going to do is take that weather CAB for manila and put it in the OperatorPKG folder. Now go in the "config_operator.txt" and add this string:
CAB: \WINDOWS\"name of the cab file you just put in the OperatorPKG folder, INCLUDING the .cab extension (ex: M2Dhomeweather.cab)"
After cooking and flashing the ROM and setting up your device it will auto install that CAB and you should be set to go.
Now once you tell me the baseROM you are using I can tell you what is mostly junk in the OEM folders you have.
Also in case you are curious.
In the "config_operator.txt"
A "TSK" represents a theme and will make the device load a certain theme.
A "CAB" (obviously) represents a CAB file and will auto-install the CAB file.
A "CFG" represents the next config.txt file and tells the device to look at that config file next.. There are 4 total in all used for different purposes but they all do the same thing more or less. In the "config_operator.txt" ALWAYS make sure the
CFG: \WINDOWS\config_PT.txt
string goes last. It will skip anything else after itself if you do not have it as the last string.
P.S. - Always get an opinion from more than one person
Using the above process you will be using 2x the amount of space .cab & install
Also when things are cooked in they are faster accessible than via .cab install.

kaiser:
well, first off, i'm using the HyperDragon IV as my base ROM. it's the only one i can find that actually has the weather on the home screen. i love the ROM, don't get me wrong, but it just has a lot of extra stuff in it that i don't need, and i'd like to have that storage space. this ROM actually has the home weather already built in. updates automatically according to the GPS (i'm assuming since it always displays the weather for the city i'm currently in). very handy for taking a quick look rather than having to press any buttons (i'm one of those "no phone while driving" people). however, when i add the Blue Galaxy theme to it, it changes the clock and takes away the home screen weather. i'm very new to this rom cooking business, ie: all i know is what i've either taught myself or looked up on XDA, so i have no idea how to make packages from cabs or anything like that. but reading above about where to put the cabs to auto install with the new rom doesn't seem too difficult. i can visualize it in my head (i spent QUITE A WHILE looking at those files yesterday! haha!). the HyperDragon IV rom is about 110 MB, and it moves a bit slow, but that is my ONLY complaint about it. i'd like to get to the point of being able to build a rom from scratch, but i think breaking one down and rebuilding it to my liking is a better starting point. i'm checking into taking some classes on it. i really enjoy working on my phone and i think if i had some formal training on it, it could be something that i LOVE to do. i just have no grasp of the technical jargin used, so sometimes i'll find a post pertaining to the topic i'm looking for, but i get lost in trying to understand some of them, you know? same thing with cars: i can work on them all day, but i have no idea what most of the parts are even called, much less what they do. i actually have 2 Tilts (my wife thought it was too complicated and got a different one), so i use one to practice on and check out new roms, and the other for everyday use. last night i installed the Hyperdragon IV rom on the extra and printed out the HTCHomeSettings file (with home screen weather) and printed the HTCHomeSettings file from my regular use phone (Blue Galaxy theme installed so no more home screen weather) and was getting ready to print them out and compare the differences between the two. just out of curiosity, would that have done me any good?
Off-hand question: NRH, is that North Richland Hills? if so, nice to see a fellow Texan! i live in Arlington, born and raised.
Stylez:
yeah, that's what i understand. phone operation is much quicker when software is built into the rom. thanks for the link. i was looking for something along those lines yesterday, just couldn't find it. i appreciate it. i've actually looked up A LOT of usefull info that you've posted on here, so thanks for the knowledge as well!
Staxx:
thank you, thank you, thank you sir! i actually posted a request last week for suggestions on a more beginner level user friendly kitchen, but got not a single response (last i checked). that's exactly what i was looking for: something where i can just check what i do and don't want. i was using PPCKitchen at first, but after cooking 3 roms that were just as big as HyperDragon IV (110+ MB) the program started giving me error messages. the frustrating part was that it wouldn't give me errors until it was almost done building the rom. that's quite a while to wait and quite a bit of time (by my standards) wasted to find out that the program isn't going to produce anything! so thanks for the suggestion. i'm going to go search for and download it right now.
To All:
thanks again for the help and advice. you guys are life savers! i can usually figure things out on my own. i like to think i'm smarter than the average bear. but sometimes i just need to be pointed in the right direction, or have things translated from technical jargin to layman's terms. i appreciate yall taking the time to help me and answer my questions. it's nice to see that there are still people in the world willing to help complete strangers. so thanks again guys! i'm sure i'll probably have more questions arise, so i'll probably be posting those as well. i try not to post anything that has already been answered, but sometimes i can seem to find exactly what i'm looking for, even if it is posted already. there is A LOT of info on XDA, but that's a good thing, or a GREAT thing i should say.
Kaiser:
by the way. i'm looking to cook a WM 6.1 ROM with:
blue galaxy theme, but with weather on the home screen, of course
bluetooth function
data connection auto config
manila 2d (dont need the customizer)
quick menu
quick gps
google maps
kaiser tweak
S2U2
BT enabled voice command
BTAudio Toggle (not the btaudio on/off but the toggler button that has the little headphones on the icon)
smartphone tracker
activesync
camera
opera 9.5
***prefer but don't have to have:
volume control, the one that is all black with the white volume bars running up and the vibrate and silent buttons directly underneath
there is also a contacts list that matches the above volume controls, black background with scrolling
wow! that actually looks like a lot now that i've written it out! i actually have all the cabs for the above mentioned items (except camer, activsync, volume controls and contacts list). i also have the cab for manila 2d with the weather on the home screen, but i haven't been successful in installing it WITH the home screen weather working, or even on the screen. i believe it's actually an add on. it's not the full manila 2d, just suppoesed to replace the clock with the flipping clock and add the weather under the clock (which it doesn't seem to do), so i think it may be about useless.
that's really about all i want in the rom. i'll most likely be using the HyperDragon IV rom as my base rom, since it already has the home weather. after that (and some more practice) i may try to learn how to take another lite or naked rom and add the home weather clock to it with manila. that's my goal anyway, to learn how to add it to a rom that doesn't already have it or manila. well, i'm off to download and check out that other kitchen. thanks again for the willingness to help me!
You should probably ask the chef of this ROM for help I'm sure they would be more than happy to help you. They would know about everything in the ROM and would be able to help you the most. If not then I'll download Hyperdragon and look at it in the kitchen.
@off-hand question - yup.
kaiser:
well, i think i'm going to download a stock WM 6.1 rom to practice on first. i'll see if i can't get in contact with the chef in the mean time. i got it off of the Sakajati website. not sure if that's going to make any difference in contacting the chef, but i'll see how it pans out. thanks again for your help.
It's just crossing my mind this idea to downgrade from WP7 to WM6.x. Yes, it has been told that this two platforms are completely different thing, on hardware and software base. But, after looking at the HD2 forum that is dedicated to HD2s update from WM6.5 to WP7 the idea just could be right.
Switching from WM6.5 to WP7 made me nostalgic for WM6.5 and it's programs, settings... Well, I guess that, as a lot of people, I haven't asked around about WP7 enough to see how it works and what it gives. But, I do like this phone, and especially 1GHz processor, 5MP camera, touch screen and other things (o yeah the battery is much better) that it comes hard to me to have this mighty thing that is all locked up. It could be that in a year or so, from now, it will be better than WM6.5 but considering all that time needed to get it close to WM6.5 and original idea to create WP7 (to make it easy-to-use and lot less custom) it stands on this OS just like gray cloud.
Just wanted to write this, and if someone shares my opinion I would be most glad to hear about it.
Maybe it will be possible to get to WM6.5...
nope cant be done sorry. just install the mango beta it blows wm6.5 out of the water.
Yes, I do try to think like that, and then I realize that I need SatNav. And, no GPS navigation software can't be installed, for time being, there is no Garmin, IGo, TomTom...
I'll definitely stick to this phone, and Mango I'll update. Hope it'll make my life simpler.

Garmin StreetPilot is now in Marketplace for a hefty $39.99, but unfortunately still does not include fully installed maps. Maps can however be downloaded ahead of time to the phone for the relevant route.
for unlocked device you have Navigon select...
My Arrive came with TeleNav. And the built in Bing stuff does turn by turn (with an upgrade coming in Mango). I don't see GPS apps as being an issue.
Yeap, now the future looks better.
as longer I use WP7 the more I wish a downgrade to WM6.5!!!
Where is my (momentary VERY needed) possibility to use tethering!? How do I synch "get away ALL your music and videos, blahblah..." all my things WITHOUT the scrapy Zune-SW, and (haha!) how I can increase the memory for it!?
****ty menues (just 5 stupid icons -what I there are several, much more options!?!?), it's not possible for the developers to install a dedicated database (so you have to make it "in the cloud") -yeah!!!! It's SO stupid on a MOBILE phone, as there often is the possibility that you're NOT online, or with GPRS or EDGE only -and it is SO funny if you're in a train and all 5 secondy it switsh from G to E to G3 to G to HSDPA. The last ****! :-(
The IE on it often don't work. Hmmm -let's use Opera. Uuuh -damned -I forget: you can't install ANYTHING!!!
OK -exceptional jailbreak, but I never did it before, and I don't want it -but I HAVE to do it, if I want to USE my phone.
I think it's better to reactivate my HD2 -there is ALL functionable, without any problems. And: it contains much data that i need -and there is NO possibilty to migrate SMS (i.e.) to WP7 -VERY poor performance Microsoft!!!!

wow where to start. this is probably the most ignorant post I've read on here thus far and with poor grammar at that. my arrive has had wonderful performance since the day I got it and it has improved even further since I installed the mango beta. the live tiles are awesome makes android and iOS seem like nothing but app launchers, the whole concept of apps is overrated and I can do a lot of things without having to even launch an app. and IE9 runs circes around opera. especially the one on WM.

Hmmm... It's not the performance that is question. But, it's functionality. Migrating from WM6.5 to WP7 should, at least I thought, have been compatible, eg. SMS, Connection settings (WiFi, Phone...), Contact (I've had to do it the old fashion way, by typing contacts manual / an then I found out about sync with WLive ).
It feels like I have powerful thing (excellent hardware), but it does non better than Nokia 3310. Just raw speed, for basic things.
Hi eric -I'm not a native speaker (english) -but give us some probes from your netherlands, german and french
But as I can see, you're able to read what I wrote, and thats what matter.
But back to topic: What sense is in a phone that is unusable in much functions DIRECTLY. For everyone -not just for people which have the time, the skills und of course the desire to make an jailbreak (which causes lost of guarantee), rebuild the phone several times, have so read several manuals, howtos and search for betas, previews.
I'd tried the Desire Z (just because of the same why I buy the 7 Pro -it's a type & touch) -and send it bach 2 days later to amazon. It's exactly what you wrote: just app-launchers! I hate apple., because of their "we tell you what to do" -and with WP7 it cames to me. I don't wanna do a jailbreak -but I didn't have an alternative (if I want to USE the phone) :-(
Maybee other people have the possibility and time to try the mango beta -and it seems that I MUST do it, or I have to sell the phone (what will make me very sad -a VERY good piece of hardware!!)

odd,i didn't have to do any of that when I got my Arrive. just open the box, enter my live ID and I was good to go. wp7 is not an app launcher as almost everything can be done without even having to go into an app. with the mango beta which is easy to install i can identify a song that's playing, a product for the best price, get directions somewhere (even in malls),find something to do in the area, buy movie tickets, search the web and watch html5 videos in HD quality, check my Facebook, chat on Facebook and check in. and many other things. install the mango beta and u'll feel much better about it.
Hold on. The core of any smartphone are applications. Staring with earliest versions of WM, Symbian, iOS, Android, Droid, WP7, they all the same with a final porpoise, and that is an application/s.
Therefore calling other systems "apps launcher" is contradiction. Because doing anything with a WP7 is being done via apps. Home screen is, just as in any other mobile system, a pile of shortcuts with a weather and the clock. The truth is that some systems are doing it, app launching, better than the others.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
With all of its hardware, as WP7 requires to run, this phone, or any WP7, will in the future be something good.
If you've played with WP7 enough, you'll find that the live tiles really preclude you from needing to actually launch the associated apps unnecessarily. Because of this, the commenter was calling the other Mobile OS versions more of an "app launcher" because, in general, you need to launch the app to interact with it. (Google has widgets, but those widgets aren't quite the same.) With WP7, you can glance-and-go (one of the tenants that MS imparted into the Metro design) and only launch apps when there is a required interaction. It really is a different approach, and one that I think works very well.
Please give some comparison for WP7 and other mobile OS (mOS).
As hard as I try, and I do like to play around with WP7, I just can't find anything that makes WP7 better than other mOS.
Eg. When email or SMS arrive, on WP7s homescreen shows a count of these items, and on the other hand, Symbian do just the same. So, where is the difference?
So far, the only thing that is obviously better are things-apps that have something to do with the internet (Windows Live, Email, Internet Explorer, Youtube) or with the 1GHz processor (apps do work better with stronger processor, so by having stronger processor apps work better and it isn't because of WP7).
you sound like you're determined to be underwhelmed by wp7. yes, when you get an SMS, the homescreen tells you that you have one....that's what phones do. What more is there for a phone to do with an sms?
WP7 is highly innovative from a UI standpoint. What you seem to be interested in, however, is the menu-heavy micromanaging style of old school winmo. If you want to be able to micromanage every last little thing about your phone go to a different platform. WP7 does everything it is purported to do, if you are not getting what you wanted, then you didn't do your homework before you dropped god-knows-how-much on a phone. these days, it's not about which platform is better, it's about preference. It's getting to the point where every platform can do all the really important things really well. so how do you want your phone to look? that's what you're buying.
Don't get me wrong, but what you are saying is what I've been saying. That is, WP7 as any other mOS is not new in functionality but it is different in GUI. Other qualities are not available to be seen, since there are no apps which can show it.
For now, WP7, only offers basic features.
I have been wondering the same thing since the 1 st rumors of windows phone 7 but still a no go. Its ironic ms stripped away so many of the things that made wm only to get beat out by the former clone of themselves....android. They shouldve stripped the name windows, hired a special team that managed themes system wide so that u have eye candy without it being resource heavy & hired a marketing team that would make apple & google have nightmares.

that's what they are doing with the mango update that's near release and the beta is already out and I find that im able to do just as much if not more than WM6.5 and android (former TP2 owner and loved it, had an EVO **** for a week and hated it).
Hi,
I followed eric12341's suggestion and have the mango-beta installed (and have buyed a developer account, to make side-loads possible). And some things were better (slow was it not before -hey, it have a 1GHz CPU, it HAVE to be fast ), but there are so many things which waste time. If I want to have a (exact) look of charging, I have to go through some menue-points. As I often in transit by railways, I have to set date several times, and the WM-calendar (and to set the time) is MUCH more effective, as I didnt't have to use the annoying slider-gadgets. Maybe it looks nice, but it waste much time. Before it was just 3 tips, no it's an orgy -the possebility to change the style would be great! And local database for apps -to find the connecting-train while you have no network (and EVERY thing have to be found over network when you want to set start and target of you travel, because of the impossebillity of local databases) is a horror! Before: 10 seconds, now 3 minutes -or longer, as often there is no network in the train. :-(
And unfortunately many very good (sideload)-apps will not longer work after mango. And when I can make a backup from my data, if I want to upgrade memory, or have to change it (because of defectivs, i.e.). And not all of my friend have Zune installed, but they have good music, pdf's or anything else for me. The next thing I was wondering: why I can only set my own ringtons for calling? What'a about SMS, email, and so on?? ^^
Sorry for the bad english -hope it was not to hard to read. :-(
Groby, thanks for the info. I was looking for some info about Mango.
Navigating via online updating is absolutely annoying. It takes for ever to download map, and there are no detailed maps, but only hi-ways and few byways.
I looks like this operating system is way out from it's time, for about good year or so.
If developers could make downgrade to WM 6.x, it would make this phone a dream.
