I have the desire ROM which means i have the .apks but they will not install anyone know what else would be needed to make them work....I am running 2.1
this is posted in another thread but the first thing to try is to take the build.properties for the rom you are running now and change the sdk version from 3 to 6 or 7 and then reflash. chances are it will take more than that but thats a start.

So I want to do the new sw update but can't because I deleted some stock apps so the checksum wouldn't match and a hard reset won't restore them I guess so I would flash a stock rom but am I right thinking there isn't one yet? So how can I get to an original rom and then update or maybe make the new update work?
D2G stock rom
I don't know if the update will be compatible or not but from my understanding this is pretty much the stock rom that Motorola handed Verizon to put all their bloatware on then release the phone. I did load this rom on my d2g and it works flawlessly. Might be worth a try, not a direct link but will get you headed in the right direction. The rom manager gives you the opportunity to load the barebones stock google rom or the Vanilla based version, it just downloads and flashes, works perfect I didn't even have to re-activate. It is already pre-rooted so maybe the update won't work but I just wanted to make you aware of it. I work at verizon and did the update to the floor model and my dad's stock d2g also and didn't notice any difference really. I think vzw is just fixing some of the bugs that they created anyway so having the stock rom may end up with the same result, a rom that functions perfectly, good luck!.......droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-roms/106629-rom-fission-2-4-droidx-vanilla-generic-android-aosp-like-fission-rom-manager.html
@evil yeah im kind of in the same boat, let me know if srensber solution works for you.
I froze a bunch of apps with Titanium Backup and renamed some stuff with Root Explorer. I recently just re-named everything i changed back to the factory stuff (bak -> apk) but it still doesnt seem to do any good.
I did create a number of back ups using Rom manager but i cant seem to find out where they are located and how to restore them. hmm. Not sure what to do.
Ah i realize what ive done wrong ... i didnt know you had to have bootstrap installed along with clockwork recoveryy in order to make a backup hmm. Going to need a rom of stock d2g lol.
clockwork recovery installs a boot hijack, which might be the culpirt

I cant seem to find the download link anywhere... and after you loaded this rom did you try to update to 2.4.3 ?
If anyone else has any input about this please help!
Hello XDA fourm people! First of all, I want to say thank you to all the devs out there working hard to get us nice things on our phones
I am a noobie at flashing custom roms so I need a bit of help. I have a cricket Huawei Ascend running 2.1 update 1. I recently read about the CM7 rom that has been succesfully ported over to the ascend but I have no idea where to even start. My phone IS rooted using z4root, but i really want to install CM7.
I know you have to do a nandroid back up and then used clockwork mod? I have somewhat of an idea of what these things do, but I dont know how to use them or where to get them. Any help would be appreciated.
Lol and I know that some of you are looking at this rolling your eyes, but I'm just new and trying to get the hang of it.

They make it where almost anyone can do this so if you have further questions feel free to ask as I have been bricking my phone and reflashing it back to normal since I bought it lol...also you might look into getting multiple custom ROMS at that same site as one is not really better than the other so you'll want to check out all of em at some point
Myself I have flashed Icarus 1.1 and CM7-Ascend-04052011 (also flashed the nightly release of this but just for a recovery reason which failed) I would suggest Icarus 1.1 if you want an extremely stable ROM that runs off the current system you have on your phone. CM7 is still a little unstable but I run it as an everyday driver because it uses 2.3.3 gingerbread and it also allows for system overclocking to 710mhz without the use of third party apps. Like I said though, test drive them all and have fun with it. Just make sure you make a factory back up and a back up directly after each launch of flashing just in case something does go wrong you can also go back to the bulky OS your running now ;-)

Thank you! I followed a thread that showed me how to flash CM7. It is buggy and unstable, but I love it! I've wanted to flash Icarus too, but i think Im going to play around with CM7 for a bit and see how it works out.
I'm new to the whole Android scene so let me know if I left out information and what not.
I'm currently running RCMix HD v5.9.3 and decided to flash my radio. I was using Radio_12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M - Cingular US 1.80.502.3 and every time I made a call, my phone beeps and then hangs up. I'll eventually make a call but its very annoying. I went ahead and flashed the suggested rom from this topic (Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF - HTC WWE 1.72.405.3 R2) and I thought that fixed the problem but it is starting to happen again and when I look down I will have almost full signal if not full.
Did I do something wrong while flashing it? Should I go back to stock?
All help is appreciated! Thanks
Did you do a backup (nandroid or otherwise) before loading the current ROM?
If so, you could start from there, restoring your backup and seeing if everything is fine. If you used either of the hack kits here, then the ROM you revert back to should be rooted and close to stock, meaning you have all of your basic functionality and can verify that the hardware is working.
Think back to when you installed your current ROM of choice - did you clear the cache and data when you did it? If not, then that could be a big part of your issue right there. Try reloading the ROM again after wiping cache and data.
You could also try a ROM closer to the stock ROM like ClearDroid - very nice one that I'm using at the moment, and the guys supporting it are active here and helpful with issues (though I myself haven't had any).
This would be my personal method of resolution - to pinpoint the issues and verify the source, be it hardware or software. Feel free to get a second (or more) opinion on this - I'm not "old hat" on the Android platform yet, but I have been tinkering with this and it doesn't seem like a phone that is terribly easy to brick.
Good luck with it, and post back with your resolution - maybe you can help someone else who's seeing the same issue.
The cell coverage in your area could be over loaded. Can you make calls at night or off peak without issues?

Thanks for the info. I'll do a backup and try going back to the rooted ROM I had with the hack kit later tonight. Thanks again for the ideas. I'm hoping something works *crosses fingers*
I was having the same issue as you when running cm7 or any gingerbread Tom using the stock radio. I ended up flashing a gingerbread radio and that solved the problem but now my upload speeds suck again :-(. Give it a shot
Sent from my rooted Inspire 4G using XDA App
I went ahead and wiped everything and basically went through the hack kit again to get root stock and everything seems to be working normally. I love the RCMix rom and will give start fresh from there and see if the same thing happens.
@nino313
I'll look at the gingerbread radio if things start messing up again.
I've been searching the forums and I've seen people replace their respective stock mms.apk. I just got my 4g slide, coming from the g2 and im not used to this sense mms stuff. I liked the stock mms in the g2 way better. I tried handcent/chomp/go sms...neither was my thing. I'm rooted so if I had to mod anything, thats good...I just need instructions. I just want the regular android 2.3 stock mms i was using in my g2. Is there anyway to accomplish this? Really appreciate it
If you post up the .apk you want to use in this thread, i'll take a look at flashing it to my phone when I get home from work this afternoon. I'm going to run through all the ROMs I have in sequence testing the custom kernel in the dev section, but right now at this moment my phone has it's stock ROM running.
I can write the update and flash it to see if it works before I go about erasing everything on the phone - just an fyi though, i've never actually done any text messaging on the phone so I can't tell you how well it will work, just if it installs and opens fine.
If it does, i'll post the flashable update i'll end up making so you can run with it...unless someone else gets to it before I get back here today.

Good stuff, I found this here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203665
as well as :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253108
...but they report problems with mms not working. maybe u can download either mms.apk package and see what u come up with?
Hi I was running venom ROM with no problems and I just switched to sinless last night and today I tried to use GPS and it won't lock on.....I fully wiped before I flashed
If sinless is an aosp ROM that is an issue currently with aosp. From what I've read you can flash a sense ROM, get a GPS lock, and then flash back to sinless. Right now I don't believe there is an actual fix for it.
Edit: I saw its gpe, my bad. From searching in the sinless thread I see there was talks about a gps fix listed in the thread. Idk of its a flashable zip or what, but might be worth checking out.
Thanks and ya I tried that first and it didn't work.....I read that you could flash back to sense too but I was hoping to find a zip that works to flash to save me some trouple
Anyone else have a faster way before I flash like adavit said....and if I do go that route can I just dirty flash each
Don't you have a nandroid of a sense rom? Then you just restore that, get a lock, and then restore back to your gpe rom you're on now.
Thanks I just did that and it worked......the phone was running so smooth didn't want take the chance of messing anything up

In the future, you would probably want to ask a question like this in the thread for whatever ROM you're running. That way anyone else who experienced the same issue can chime in, hopefully with a quick fix. And if it's a new problem, then the dev would become aware of it.
I realize that but I needed to post here BC I can't post until I've sent 10....(just signed up)
