windowsmobile7/nontouch phones - Non-Touchscreen Windows Mobile Other

would windowsmobile7 becoming to nontouch phones like samsung jack or its just going to be for touchscreens.Who thinks that windowsmobile touch screen phones get the better apps than non touch users. Why is that

agreed
i totally agree. i love my htc ozone. i dont want to have to get rid of it just to keep up with software. with the way developing and support are going though, we are being left behind.

touchscreen is taking over
non touch screen phones need to come back strong again

From my understanding nothing is going to be non-touch anymore. Which is good news because really touch is awesome, expecialy done right.
I think non-touch will just use "Windows Phone Classic" which is what they are calling 6.5, heck maybe they will release the original Windows Phone 7 concept and call it a day for non touch devices.

Drop Fuze Get Dream?

If you could get an HTC Dream(G1) would you trade in our Fuze/Raphael?
thoughts, comments, rants
No I wouldn't get the dream, as I'm not a fan of Android.
ive heard that the g1 keyboard is **** but i like having the big screen(ipod touch early adopter)

i used to have a G1 and yes the keyboard sucks like you cant tell if you pressed a button or not. The keys were so soft and there was barely any feedback. That is the one main thing i did not like
not yet I wouldn't, android is still a baby in terms of software, i will eventually dump my fuze for the next HTC//SE android phone, but not right now
I think Im going to look at getting a g1. The fuze is nice and all but i dont care fore tf3d and it is a lot of hype but doesnt really deliver. now just gotta find the stock att fuze rom
the dream is more like a nightmare
I have a Dream/G1 and it is so bad that I dropped t-mobile after 7 years for the Touch Pro on ATT.
Android is nothing more than spyware for google. The phone feels like (scratch that, IS) a toy compared to the Touch pro.
I can not think of one single positive thing about the Dream/Android combo.
nada.
YMMV.
turns out i wouldnt get service anyway due to atts decision to chane he bands up

Touch Pro 2 or HTC Dream/G1?

Hi..... Im wondering whether I should get the htc dream, or the touch pro 2. The only thing that is holding me back is that the dream has been out for quite awhile but im not sure if touch pro 2 would be good as many say google android beats windows mobile. The reason im choosing between these two is because I want the qwerty keyboard. Would appreciate your help

Welcome to the forum
Design on TP2 is much much nicer
It has a better screen
I think also better processor (Not sure)
And Android is not as solid OS than WM, is just too young...
So TP2 definetly!

At the time that Touch pro 2 will hit the stores it will be the best phone in the market . This is my personal opinion.
About Android, you can't compare it with WM. Android lacks on variety of apps because it's not in the market for too long. I think that there are only 2 devices that using it. For WM you will find much more apps. The only good with Android is that it is based on Linux & that it is an opensource operating system. This means that it is easier for developers / programmers to make an app for it.-
Anyone have any convincing info on the Sprint launch date for the TP2?
just get a kaiser they cost much less.
or if you want to spend the money get an x1

Not sure about sprint date but for the restof the world june 5th is the date announced
I would get the G1. It is fresh new and something different. It is my favorite phone on the market.
I would get the TP2 for many reason. The first because, as orb3000 said, Android is still somewhat young, and doesn't have nearly the support that WM does right now. And don't forget, that Android is open source, so the insanely-talented hackers/devs will probably port it in no time.
We Kaiser users already have an almost fully functional version of Android. And my thoughts on using it, is that Android is alright, but WM is far superior for now (and IMHO definitely superior with WM 6.5 running). Plus, I hear that the Touch Pro2's keyboard is amazing and the whole device performs really well.

Which Phone should i get?

Yea i know there are alot of these threads so heres another.
My current phone the G1 is starting to break down so im looking for a new phone. I'm considering the Touch Pro2, Touch HD, Hero, and the Toshiba TG01. I have never used a windows mobile device before with the G1 being my first by HTC. I'm willing to try it as long as it has been prettied up some(TouchFlo or Stripes).
If you have either the Touch Pro2 or the Touch HD can you give me your experiences with them.
HTC in my experience is awefull build quality. After owning four diferent models I have vowed never to own one again. Shame really, apart from the poor camera selection they are designed really well ..... just a shame they fall to bits.
Out of your list, would have to be TG01.
Have you looked at the new Omnia II's? (not the Omnia HD) Theres a full on Iphone/HD lookie-likely and two keyboard models, one a TP2 type and one a blackberry type.
Don't forget the Acer M900 (which is what I currently use) and the more pocket friendly F900.
Touch Pro 2 definetly
Because keyboard is a must for me!

I had windows mobile and even though preference is a matter of perspective.... windows might be a step in the wrong direction. Back when I had it windows was ahead of its time... but now it seems like its standing still ... like its been stagnant for the last 3 yrs I haven't seen any major differences...from android to winmo is going Back to resistive touch screens... with not so finger friendly gestures because the screens tend to not pick up on the motion... I would really love to see MS step it up and release a new os or 7.0 which I hope makes a major difference. Dont get me wrong for business i would only use winmo or BB... but at this point Android just seems like a wiser choice... its not an ancient OS that will probably bore you quickly. All the phones sound great ... if you want break down and comparisons then go to infosyncworld.com ... they rate the phones for you.
As somebody who's an advocate of Windows Mobile, my honest opinion is that now isn't a good time to buy a WinMo phone at all, especially not for the first time. The only people I would recommend the current batch of WM phones to are people who already use WM, don't want to learn a different system, and REALLY need a new device.
Here's why: Windows Mobile 6 has a real learning curve, and coming from Android you're probably going to find yourself frustrated at a lot of the inconsistencies and complications. Further, WM7 is already on the horizon and I think we'll be getting our first real peeks at it before the year is out. It should be a massive, fundamental overhaul to the way WM works. There's a lot of unanswered questions right now, ESPECIALLY whether WM7 apps will work on WM6 devices and whether it will be possible to upgrade any current WM6 or 6.5 devices to 7. If not, it's possible that application support for WM6 devices might grind to a halt within a year.
If I were in your boots, I'd try to hold on to that G1 as long as you can. By October or November, I think we'll have a better view of the future of WM and it'll be easier to see whether WM will serve your needs going forward.
Now, all this is completely moot if you're rolling in enough dough to just buy a new phone whenever you feel like it. If so, feel free to buy whatever you like.
Wouldn't all of these phones be able to upgrade to winmo 7 anyway. I really dont care about having to learn how to use windows mobile. Im more interested in the devices themself. My main concern is switching to a device with out a keyboard.

Well, that's the problem: we just don't know yet. A lot of people here seem to take it for granted that WM7 will be as "open" as WM6 in terms of porting and the like, but comments from MS make me a lot less confident -- it sounds like WM7 might have much more specific hardware requirements that will keep it from being run on older models. It's POSSIBLE WM7 will be able to be put on, say, a Touch Pro 2, but it's not a foregone conclusion.
All signs point to WM7 being a major upgrade (keep in mind that WM7 has been in development since 6.1 dropped if not longer), and I think it's going to be really disappointing to be stuck with 6.5 once 7 hits.
But if you're looking to roll the dice, the Touch Pro 2 looks like a great phone UNLESS you want to use it as a media player. Lack of a 3.5mm jack is a serious weakness there.
yea the 3.5mm jack is a necessity b/c i planned on getting the Motorola S9s or something along that line to use because all of those except the hero are huge or heavy
I personally don’t believe that WM7 will be ready early 2010. It might take until 2011 that we see any WM7device.
TP2 seams currently best HTC choice if you need keyboard. However frankly speaking after having 2 HTC devices (Hermes and Kaiser) with slide keyboards I am not very confident about the durability (quality) of HTC hardware. Both of the devices had after short time issues with the rails and tilt mechanism.
Just recently I went to a shop to have look on the TP2 and the keyboard rails and the tilt seams same crap as previous devices. You can also read many complain in the TP2 section about screen wobbling. Touch HD has a very nice large screen (love large screens) but it is 1 year old technology and performance wise it did not satisfied many people. Furthermore as you are from USA you would need Australian version to able to use in American 3G. But the Device cost still after 1 year some 800-900$
My personal favoured are currently the Samsung Omnia II/i800 and Samsung Omnia II pro (b7610) Specs on the paper and the current reviews are indicating that those are under best devices on the market. Furthermore Samsung has almost entirely covered with additional software the aged WinMo operation platform. Further positive point is the Price. Both Samsung devices are about 100-200 USD cheaper then HTC devices even though they have better CPU; Camera etc.
I agree with Bulldog -- the Omnia II devices look really excellent. I like the design of the TP2 better, but I trust Samsung's build quality more and, feature-wise, it's fantastic.
Yes but you have to add that with omnia or any other you´ll not have the support of this great site!
That for me is an added value to consider before buying

Yes you do. This site offers Winmob o/s and Winmob App support to all. If you want cooked roms, look no further than omnia.modaco.com where there are plenty! My Omnia (original one) is currently running a great cooked rom of WM 6.5
Lets also not forget the AMOLED screen either on the new Omnias. I really regret buying my Acer M900, not because its crap - its not - but the new Samsungs look simply stunning. And if you factor in the success of the Omnia, widely regarded as the best Winmob all-rounder, the new Omnias should be spanking!

New Phone

im getting a new phone but dont know what to get. I want something with a capacitive screen and it has to be pretty fast what do you guys reccomend. I was thinking omnia hd but from what I read no one knows if they are going to be getting updates or anything so i dont really want it now and no iphones not a big fan. So what phone do you guys think are good and fast thanks
The HTC Leo kinda sounds like what you want. It has the same minimalist form factor that the iPhone has, but it has a massive capacitive screen and a 1 Gigahertz Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor, so speed is certainly not an issue. If you want more info, you can view pictures and datasheets here. However, keep in mind that it hasn't been released yet, so some info may be subject to change.
is it going to come out some time soon because i want to get the phone within a month
No, it will take longer to come out, have a look on touch pro 2 if you want a hardware keyboard or Hero, or diamond 2
Those are the best available
the only one out of those that i actually like is the hero because im looking for a capacitive phone but its not really an upgrade from my g1 i want something a little better.

The resisitive is quite good, but honestly having that great keyboard I never use on screen keyboard
New here
how are you and how is your work?My name is brayden and nice to meet you guys.I am so happy to join in here.Have a good day!
Capacitive? The only Windows Mobile with capacitive is the upcoming Leo.
Then there's the other OS's.
Android: Hero?
iPhone.
Symbian: Omnia HD?
We are xda-devs, and specialize in WinMos. Which currently don't support capacitive ;P
dang that hecka sucks i had a nokia n810 which was capacititve drove me nuts lol. God so those are the three i have to choose from huh? well i guess it might as well be the iphone i already have the g1 love it but im bored with it lol.

Is the HD2 The best all around phone ever made?

I mean- it has the capabilities of 4G on TMO when released
dualboots android (perfectly stable and daily driver)
win mo 6.5 for buisness use/ more apps/ preference
top of the line specs... snapdragon, 4.3inch screen, dual led flash etc.
the only thing missing is an 8MP camera, but i would rather have a dualboot android than 3 more MPs.
This leads me to the question- is the HD2 the best all around phone out today?
Yes ....if it wasn't on t-mo
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I bought one the day they debuted and it was a pile of crap I went through three of them and didn't get one that didn't freeze on boot at least every other time, or delete all my information every other day. So no I do not believe it is the best all around phone, I would say thats the nexus one personally
It not only let you boot Android and WM, coming soon will boot WP7 too!
So it will be the first and only device booting 3 OS and specs are same or even better than newer devices.
I say yes: Leo is one of the best HTC devices ever made!
Dont forget Ubuntu and now: MeeGo
that´s right thanks!
I believe it might be...I own an N1, G2, iphone 4, and soon to be Glacier and I use my HD2 the most...Android is now stable as ever...Gingerbread will be on it soon...this phone has been a monster since it dropped..!!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I love my HD2. Wouldn't trade it for any phone out right now. I still get questions about it.
Agreed (^_^)
I would agree too, which is why I'm finding it so difficult to upgrade and part with now.
The HTC HD7 or HTC Desire HD are my current next thoughts (hopefully this month too), but can't say I'm excited about either of them and hoping for something a little more special to come out by anyone really (of course leaning more towards HTC as I have done so for over 8 years now).
Easily my favorite phone ever which is non-Android.
I was actually thinking about picking an HD2 up for the hell of it to throw Android on since I'm getting sick of the size of my HTC Aria...but I may switch from AT&T to Spring to get an Evo or Evo2.
I'm one of those guys who won't use a phone without a physical keyboard. I can't get used to screen-typing, I just don't like the feel of it. If the HD2 had a Pro variant with a slide-out, I'd own it already. I recognize it's an awesome phone though, just not for me.

+1. If there was a pro-version THEN it would be THE best phone ever to-date. I consider myself a VERY heavy user and the ROM I have seems to work like a charm.
The only reason I have to take the battery out is to turn it off as the on/off button has been reprogrammed!
Sadly, switching to a Dell Venue in two weeks... oh for the keyboard.
(Orb, AFAIK - and I could be wrong! - WinPho7 requires hardware mods for it to work on a HD2 so don't expect it)

So you're going the W7P route? The Dell Venue looks good, but not please with the 3.5mm jack on top (like silly iPhone thingys) and the keyboard looks like old school keyboards being far to small to actually use. Hmm... decisions... decisions?!

The jack on top means that when you dock it (which I'm guessing you will be able to) into a 3rd party desktop cradle you will still be able to listen to music - unlike my HD2's docks!
Don't know how the keys will feel.... I can always send it back if they are bad
I had a Rhodium before and must say I´m a real keyboard device person but got tired of the slowness of Rhodium, then got Leo and I´m still missing a real kb but in terms of speed there is no comparative.

I moved to T-Mo almost two weeks ago over from VZW. I had T-Mo before but coverage was far less back then.
I picked up the HD2 and really liked it but missed Android. I had several failed attempts to get Android to run. I then decided to separate my work and personal line with two phones so I grabbed the G2.
Now I re-flashed my HD2 to a Mega Leo Rom, was an Energy ROM. Then I made a second attempt at Android on a fresh reformatted sd and put on Mdeejay EVo Sense rom.
I was amazed how slick Android boots on HD2. Of Course there has been some bumps with a Flaky Data connection and it will not install Angry Birds from the Market. I was drawn to the HD2 because I had a Droid X and the larger screen was the attraction.
In the end the HD2 is a great device with all the options and have a Snapdragon processor makes it available to compete with current phones.
Android or W7P?

That maybe, but I've never used mine for playing music through a dock, I usually make my own custom docks and prefer to have the ability to pick up my phone from out of my pocket, with it being the right way up already and the jack underneath for easy usage generally, especially whilst seated on the TfL for example.
However, I'd image this is a 50/50 point, where half would prefer the jack on the bottom and vice versa.
CPW are bugging me weekly to upgrade to anything fro free and with just a 12 month contract, but stuck in what to go for. I'm only going to keep the phone for 3-4 months too and probably give it to my other half to use (whose a heavy Outlook user) so thinking a W7P, but I know she'd prefer Android with the newer HTC sense. I'm also not impressed enough with the Desire HD, so wondering if I should be waiting.
I just bought a Sony LiveView to go with an Android 2.0+ and can't find out if it will work with a W7P at all (too early to ask I guess), so thinking to go with a Desire HD with the Sony LiveView until a newer handset comes out that is much better (probably in a couple of months) and give the above to my Mrs to use, maybe?
I think I read that Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) needs 1.5Ghz to run well and in general smartphones are still some months away from that official speed.
best non android and android phone ever ... its the BEST FONE EVAAA !!

After 3 phones, the statistical odds are is that you're the one with the manufacturing defect.
