$50 US for working video record/play & opengl Eclair-Hero - G1 Android Development

Eclair is nice..mad props to KingxKxlick and Cannon202 but I want my camcorder back, opengl and all that hero goodness. Whoever gets me a working Eclair-Hero rom for my G1 with all the features listed will get $50 US sent via Paypal

Word. We should start a dev prize pool with a chip-in account... winner take all. Didn't someone do that with navigation?
This thread is probably gonna be deleted, but good try.

Didn't somebody make a thread exactly like this earlier....and it got deleted, like this one will.

MOD EDIT: This is uncalled for, you can make your points without insults. Please take care (respect others) when posting. I would edit this out but many members have quoted it in future posts, so not much point.
THERE IS CATEGORICALLY NO WAY TO RECORD, OR PLAY BACK VIDEO ON AN ECLAIR ROM WITHOUT THE DRIVERS.
AND NOBODY EVEN KNOWS IF THOSE DRIVERS EXIST.
SO PLEASE, IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MUCH MONEY YOU OFFER TO DEVELOPERS, UNLESS SOMEBODY FINDS THE DRIVERS REQUIRED, WE WILL NEVER HAVE VIDEO ON AN ECLAIR ROM.
King's 2.0 ROM does NOT count as having working video.

I think it's worth a bit more than that.

I'd like working bluetooth so that I can try a Hero rom but if it were possible it would have happened already. Same as if video without drivers were possible. People dont seem to understand that the devs here dont create the OS for our phones they edit open source code that google has released. If google doesnt release the code that is needed for something then the devs here have nothing to work with. Think of it has you bought a piece of hardward to use with you PC but when you plug it in you PC doesnt reconize it. That is because you dont have the correct driver for it and untill you can obtain that driver it will never work.

Not true.
$50 can buy a fair bit of corporate espionage in a lower-rent country.
$10k can buy a few developer-months in a lower-rent country.

not for nothing thats a little harsh. you calling others ignorant makes you just as ignorant, if not more. also, from what i understand, google did drop the 2.1 aosp code, i dont know about all of it, but its def there. and the drivers do exist 100%. a very close friend of mine (who works for google by the way) was privy to them. i have a fully working, and when i say fully working i mean fully working eclair rom on my POS G1. i can take pics, record, watch you tube vids the whole 9 yards. if i knew how to make a rom and **** id put one out there for you guys, but i dont and at the same time neither i nor my contact are trying to get sued by google or htc. im not sure if the **** is proprietary or not, but im not running any risks and neither is she. maybe someone with a fancy new nexus can reverse engineer the camcorder, like NCommander did with the camera (mad props by the way!!!), but until then looks like only the very few who have the necessary bits and pieces will be able to enjoy 2.1 (which honestly aint that great. i much prefer cyans 1.6). ive had a complete 2.1 rom on my phone since tuesday and so far so good. no problems at all running nice and smooth. its out there guys, you just gotta be patient or get a nexus

Ncommander might be able to, he seems to be a decent coder.
Haykuro *definitely* won't. He isn't a coder, he's just a hack -- responsible for more bricks than anyone else and at the same time, responsible for fracturing the community romcookers into the "stockSPL" and "deathSPL" groups -- which is a VERY VERY VERY bad thing.

So I'm browsing right.....
scrolling, scrolling, scrolling, and I believe it is twice i ran across a topic like this with either $ or Paypal in the title for the exchange of a fix to a phone and/or rom....hmmm, is it me or has the developer forums overnightly became an Ebay/Craigslist type of categorylol

I know Haykuro is responsible for bricks its a fact that the deathSPL can cause a brick but when used correctly it is a very useful tool that allows ROM makers to create larger and better ROMs. I think most devs that create ROMs that do not require the death spl only do so because the majority of people dont want to flash the death spl there for more people will use there rom if it does not require it.

i suggest a new section on the forums be opened for paying developers to do specific tasks and services... it can be named "developers in demand"

MyTouch Fender/1.2 ROMs (3.5mm jack)

Alright so it's been a couple of weeks and anyone can see that the Nexus is casting a shadow over the new MyTouch so it's probably not going to get much attention from Cyanogen. We can still use his roms however we lose touchscreen support. Actually, we can use pretty much any rom as the old MT3G and G1 can use but we can't use the touchscreen.
What I've tried was pulling the /system/usr directory, flashing a CM rom and pushing the directory back but it still didn't make any difference.
I've tried flashing the Cyanogen ROM then flash the boot.img from the Fender ROM but I forgot that the current SPL (1.33.0013) is locked. Another obstacle. So I replaced the boot.img in the CM rom with the Fender and of course it didn't work. I'm out of ideas... but I'm far from being a dev. But there are a lot of you smart guys out there. Has anyone broken any ground on these devices? Now that the original MyTouch is obsolete it's only a matter of time that the popularity of this device will grow since the MyTouch (original) is more popular that the G1 to date.
In conclusion I see two options from here:
We cook a custom MT3G 1.2 ROM from source (whereever that could be found).
We work together to discover a workaround for this touchscreen issue to allow us to use CM ROMs (perferred).
So far the only ROM for the new MT3G 1.2/Fender is an odexed stock rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623141 (thanks CursorDroid) and the only method of rooting is by goldcard methoddiscovered by Crypysmoker.
If there are any others can you please post them.
I would really like to see the development for this device take off and I'm sure that it will eventually. Themes, kernal mods, custom roms, tethering, overclocking, a2sd, etc and I'm sure that I'm not alone.
Thanks.
I would love to see this phone get some attention. I call it my poor mans nexus
Has anyone tried adb pulling the touchscreen kernel module from stock and inserting it into a modded ROM to see if it even loads?
/system/lib/modules only has wlan.ko
It looks like the driver might be tied to the kernel so a new kernel is needed

LMAO!! Even though I don't have one and don't intend to get one cause I'm satisfied with my original MyTouch, ROM development is always encouraged. the more ROMs, the better!

Unfortunately, the more ROMs the more confusion.
Now that we have two different MyTouch verions (not including the 32a/32b for the original) this is going to get VERY confusing. It already is. Even if you use "1.2" people are going to wonder if that's the ROM version or the phone version. Maybe MT3G2 or something.

And thus we need a dev. LOL. Unless someone can tell us what controls the touchscreen input. That might give us a step in the right direction.
I'm still hoping for Cyanogen ROMs on the Mytouch 1.2.
Lol since im the one who even discovered the pain staking rooting process ... omg such a pain... I felt the need to comment.
I just today started using my fender over my G1 because Criffmon (however the hell you spell it) came out with the themed stock rom. It looks perfect.
But the reason for no rom yet is the kernel tied into the new touchscreen drivers and 3.5mm jack. There is a whole new touchscreen which is why it doesnt work when u load other roms.

Yeah that's the rom that I used too... maybe i got my links confused.
That rom is odexed. I managed to de-odex the apps but I can't figure out the framework. I would like to add things like the modified browsers, dialer, contacts, mms app, etc. But I am unsure if it can be done because of the odex.

wow that looks sweet!!!...
So according to tmonews the MyTouch 1.2 is sold out and anyone interested will have to wait until this Spring to pick theirs up.
Then I noticed an interesting tweet from Haykuro:
"just realized something. The Nexus One and the N900 are amazing phones and a whole bunch of people have it but you NEVER see anyone with it."
So let's get this straight... the newest MyTouch is sold out and all of the devs (like Cyanogen) are rushing to develop firmware for a device that isn't anywhere near as popular. Meanwhile... what has been accomplished with the new MyTouch?
What's wrong with this picture???
Has anyone made any progress at all lately?
there's loads of things wrong with that. but sadly when your a gifted developer you have the right to develop for whatever device you want, even if loads of people won't be using it.

I understand all that but my point is out of the hundred of thousands of devices sold there isn't ONE person out there that tried to develop a rom for it and share it? There are over two dozen people (at LEAST) in this forum that has the phone and not one of them possess the skills to at least figure out how to use a CM rom on the device? Really? Why is that so hard for me to believe?
I'm not saying that I can do better because I know that I can't... but I also don't have any coding experience either. It would appear that all the T-Mobile customers with coding experiences decided NOT to buy this device for some reason. Or they decided to buy it... but not try to improve on it in any way.
You know that if Haykuro or Cyanogen had the phone we'd be on the twelfth rom version by now. C'mon devs! I'm still using my G1 if I want to show off the power of Android. I want to retire this device already.

No no.. You have it a bit wrong. Wes and Ctso were/have been working on it trying to get the kernel into Open eclair.
The main problem is those 3 drivers we need for the touch screen and 3.5 jack seem to be a super pain in the ass to extract from the current kernel to push into another or build a new one all together. Basically, the drivers can be seen, but not used.
ALL 32a roms will boot on the fender/mytouch 1.2, I have tried literally 10 pages of them.... Bu the moment it looks for a touch screen, all it sees is the track ball and defaults to it. YOu can fully run other roms, but you cant touch. They are trying lol, But were basicly gona have to deal with criffmon's themes for now since 2.1 will be on us in the next few weeks. Supposedly, we are getting the full 2.1 since these are 32a boards.
People are trying, But think of this as a first, NEW release in a long while.
I mean hell, it took me 3 days just to figure out how to root it, when the nexus 1 took maybe a few hours with ways already known.
It will come, be patient. The moment I get a working kernel I will let everyone know.
Hey Crypysmoker!!! Thanks for all the hard work on this!
It's good to know there are people working on this device.

ROM CHALLENGE 32b

if i knew how to i would make a rom i would make a rom like this

But i cant so i have to make this challenge to get a rom like that/
I have a mytouch 32b and im putting out a challenge to see if anyone can make a fully working rom like this one in this video asap to be crown the best developer in the world.
this means the bluetooth, wifi, cam, video, touch screen, and volume, calling, text, and everything else for the 32b need to be working for you to be known as the best developer in the world.
also im putting out another challenge. I look and looked and i cant fnd any rom thats not based off of any other phone besides from tat which is impossible to get their roms. besides tat rom all the roms out there is based off of the mytouch slide, hero, or nexus. I want a rom that fully works and is not based off of any phone out their and mind blowing cool. i want it to be available to the mytouch 32b.
for the both of these challenges if it dosent work with mytouch 32b then u cant be mark as the best developer in the world. but im not making a rule saying u cant make a version for 32a and one for 32b.

it is possible. if you look at the nexus roms 3d gallery and the video you notice they both act the same. all u have to do is some how convert the code for the 3d gallery to the main home screen and trick it into thinking the icons for the apps is pics. then rewrite the code so when u selected an icon it will do what u want it to
anyways about the hardware being crappy thats kinda a major point to this challenge. anyone can make a great rom on the best hardware with a little bit of time but only the best can make a great rom for crappy hardware.

lol nice. but ya its a challenge and sadly i dont have the money. the main reason why i made this challenge is it seems like everyone who makes roms only makes them so their phone is like a newer one that just came out. kinda like a keep up with the Joneses thing. i want it where we have roms that is so good that the new phones that are coming out will try to keep up with us and question why a few people that makes roms on their spear time is better then people who are paid to make it for new phones.
anyways if u are worry about money the person with the best rom will be known for the rom and just like Cyanogen he has people donate to him and if he wanted to he most likely could get ads on his site. like if this challenge go well then most likely there will be another one down the road and maybe that other one down the road will have money but in order for there to be another one this one has to go well

[Q] Facebook would not sync to nexus s

Hello,
I bought my nexus s today, and i noticed that Facebook wouldn't sync to my phone! it starts by not asking whether or not to sync contacts when i install the Facebook app and continues by not responding to 'ass account' in 'accounts & syncs' in settings.
I really like the option that i can see my fav's pictures.
can i solve this? any suggestions?
but all and all amazing phone, specially after coming from here, after two years
Google removed this option on Nexus S...
thanks, i guess it's like Google want that i will root this phone..
Please don't cross post in multiple forums.

Don't even say you don't want to use it because its "unstable" its stable if you know how to properly set it up.

Don't even say you don't want to use it because its "unstable" its stable if you know how to properly set it up.

blasphemy much? especially when its a "Developer Phone" and its pretty much encouraging you to hack it. but everybody has their taste
and no. i dont believe anybody wants to run their phone stock/unrooted.. especially when we're on XDA, this forum is primarily here to hack your phone and to maximize the most out of your ~$530-$580 purchase ($199 with contract). If people wanted to leave it the way it is, they would be on other forums but they found XDA, with the majority of the users here are here to mod their phones. I would find it reasonable that they have a interest in doing this.
People primarily leave their phone stock on the forum because they're afraid that they're going to void the warranty / whatever. I'm just pointing out that it is a very hard phone to brick and they should use custom ROMs because they really do improve the Android experience.

I just really find it funny when people's answers is always "root it", "use cm7", "adb this", etc..etc.. (Personally I do run CM7 Nightlies, but get tired of these 'replies'). Not everyone wants to root their phone, not everyone wants to run a custom ROM. Some people just want to run their phones stock, even if it is a "developer phone" (which is an argument in itself). It's as bad as people saying "you have a 'developer phone'" course their's always bugs in it when someone points out a simple bug.

Just like what I editted my post previously in regards about XDA & users. XDA is primarily a forum for getting the most of your phone. So yeah, I will continue assuming that they want to get the most out of their phone. This forum isn't for unrooted/unmodded areas. Thats what Android Central is for (no disrespect to Android Central, I think its a great website but they are more friendly towards stock roms).
And no it has nothing to do with "developer phone," anything that Google makes is considered a beta. Especially when you get a product from them in its early stages. Early adopters encounters bugs, its apart of Google.
We all pay a price for being early adopters, it could be a success or fail. No one knows.
Android isn't iOS where everybody will run on Stock. Android is a versatile mobile OS, we have many options. If we don't like something that Google or a manufacturer did.. we're able to change it. So if we dont like Google's decision on Facebook Sync we can take it into our own hands. The OP wanted sync with FaceBook, I simply gave him a solution to fix it by flashing a custom ROM such as CM7. Am I coercing him to root / flash? No. the decision is up to him. But if he did try it out, I'm certain that he will enjoy it.
Edit: After reading this thread once again:
The OP said:
thanks, i guess it's like Google want that i will root this phone..

So your reference about him not rooting is false. Rooting is a gateway towards flashing custom ROMs. And stop trying to be a moderator by telling him to stop posting in multiple forums.
cool so some can sync with som roms and som not an stock roms cant sysnc too
but the real interessting thing is:
how to get any rom to sync with facebook????
some roms have "fixed" that so ho to get this "fix"???

if the ROMs are based off CM7 then it can sync. Unsure if Master changed it for Axura or not. But I believe at this point, it'd be CM7 and MIUI with FB Sync (uncertain about MIUI but it is based off CM7)
Edit: GBCollab is Cm7 too
hmm ... but interessting thing is:
why is it working with CM7? what did they make that it is working?
i think they didnt call the big abracadabra and then it was working ...
so why is it working in CM7 and is it possible to get this "what ever it is" in to a other rom??

Because Android is AOSP? And CM7 is compiled from AOSP with tweaks and additions. All they have to do is find the line that disables the sync and remove it or modify it.
I could imagine that if u use GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk or GooglePartnerSetup.apk from stock 2.3.2 Rom it may work again, since 2.3.3 is the first rom that has fb sync disabled. But i didnt try it out and im on cm7 anyhow, i just think it may be worth a try.

it works in cyanogen because he turned it back on. it is open source software, so you can do whatever you want to it. google removed this feature, but cyanogen added it back. pretty simple, and that is why it is always worth using a custom ROM over stock ROM. no reason to never root.
good thing .. finaly i try to get somthing more ...
is there anyone who can tell us what we have to change that we all can turn it on again?
or with other words ... is there a tool to turn it back on?

no. just flash CM7. if you want it THAT badly, go get the source of CM7 and go look at it.. and compile your own AOSP with that line of code to re-enable but its way too much work. just flash CM7
I though fb sync still worked on CM7 as he uses the android open source version of 2.3 and allot of the other roms out there use the nexus s release of 2.3 as their base?
Facebook sync wasn't disabled on the N1 just the NS

Miui Rom!

I have been looking at the fascinate forum and noticed they have a new Miui rom that has more functions closer to a fully functional rom than they ever have. I was hoping someone could port this to the mesmerize
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1120371&page=1
Trust me, I've had my eye on Andmer's twitter since Friday when he started it. I've got a thing or two I need to do tonight, but hopefully I can get this ported tonight.
EDIT: There *will* be stuff broken with it; anything that's broken with the Fascinate ROM will be broken with any Mesmerize port. They're still working on it (Andmer and JT1134), so it's still listed as an alpha, but enough people clearly want it.

So i what all is there that you have to do to port over a rom?
As I understand it, very little. Edit some framework stuff and the build.prop to identify as a US Cellular/Mesmerize device rather than Verizon/Fascinate. That's largely cosmetic. Remove the SMS padding the Verizon does, and that's more or less it.
As I say, I should be able to get it tonight.

"Porting ROMs" and "Porting ROMs from the Fascinate" are two different animals. Porting from the Fascinate is pretty easy once you have the steps (at least as I understand it), but everything gets ported over pretty quickly so no one really bothers to post the steps for it.
Porting ROMs from other phones, on the other hand, is a much more complicated process, often involving editing the source code before compiling it into the ROM. There really isn't a straight-forward step-by-step process to follow.
That's really why no one's posted the instructions.
I could I suppose, but I've only poked at it once or twice. I generally know how to do it, but I suspect I'll still be having one of the experts check my work. Still, one more thing off their plates, and MIUI that much sooner for us.

Sorry guys, didn't have a chance to get to this last night, I'm hoping I can tonight, but as always, we'll see. I've got a couple addons I personally wanna add to the ROM, but that will likely come later. Still, some teasers.

Wow. I really hope you were attempting to be funny because this comes off as incredibly ungrateful. The guy is attempting to do this for FREE and on his own free time. If he actually has a life that happens to take him away from being able to port this then good for him. If you're in a huge hurry to get it, then feel free to do some research and port it yourself. Otherwise sit back, relax, and be happy when it does get released.

Excitement is perfectly fine and expected. Asking for ETA's and requesting something "really really soon" just comes off as impatient and like you are owed something. Not attacking you, just something to keep in mind.

LOL It's all good, Life has just been really busy lately----but trust me, I've wanted GB MIUI for about a month now. XD To be perfectly frank, I'm still a little bitter I got so little help with it, banged my head against it for a month, and Andmer comes in in a *weekend* and gets it going. XD But I'm not complaining, cuz, well, I get GB MIUI. XD It just tells me I need to learn JavaScript and C++ and start compiling from source.
Again, stuff *will* be broken (this won't be my normal daily ROM until GPS is fixed, I MUST have my GPS), but I know Andmer and JT1134 are working on it (since it benefits JT's latest CM7 build as well).
I have to agree about the GPS... This is good news though. CM7 and MIUI are "almost" there now. Been watching and waiting for months on the progress of those.
I have been patient and I think not long off now, we will all be playing with fully working MIUI and CM7 ROMS...
Keep at it guys, I am rooting for you... (groan... root)..
Just a quick update: I won't get this completed tonight, but I did get a chance to start it. I need to bug BDE for some pointers, and hopefully hear back from JT on a code question. Even so, because of the way it's flashed (and how one must switch ROMs if they decide they want to go back to a different one), it'll get tested on IRC first before it's posted on XDA.
I won't get a chance to work on it tomorrow night for sure, but I'm hoping sometime during the weekend at the latest. Patience comes to those who wait as they say.

Hey, with CM7 (the old non-MTD builds) Jt added some code to the rom so that all we'd have to do is remove one line from build.prop to fix the SMS padding issue (and copy in a few files from /lib/ and 1 from /bin/ on a working AOSP rom). I THINK he possibly did this for the new MTD build too, but I'm not sure, but if so we should be able to fix it up quick. If not, l3ttuc3 is the one who has manually removed the padding in the past, but i'm sure others could help out.

so what are these files that need to be transfered? i can transfer those files myself from one rom to another. And i can look up and see what line it is to remove the sms padding possibly. I also heard there was some things in the framework that had to be changed but idk why and idk how to mess with those yet :/

[Q] "Best" ROM for my company's CEO

Folks... double-edged sword here. The CEO of my company wants a phone with a big screen, and came to me for input. He's not interested in an iPhone (not sure why, but I didn't press the matter), and is open to Android. I've been using a Captivate for 9 months and have played around with tons of ROMs for that device, so I know the pitfalls with custom ROMs.
My question for you all is this: if you had to recommend a ROM for the Infuse, what would it be (including stock ATT&T)? He's pretty much the typical CEO, with the added bonus of being fairly approachable and willing to try new things. But I CANNOT piss him off. He's the CEO, after all.
Thanks!
I'd look for something by GTG, Entropy or LinuxBozo in the development section. They all look good to me. Go with something like stock but with additional features. Noone needs CM7 on their first android.

Thanks for the quick response. Have you any personal experience with any of them?
I'd suggest one of the initial Infused ROMs like 1.5.3. I know that's only going to be Froyo, but I think that would be more usable and stable for his uses than trying to go with one of the current Gingerbread builds. I doubt he's going to want to keep up with updates unless he's surprisingly tech savvy.
I'd go with infused 1.5.0 and personally still use 1.5.0 (no loopy, no slightly weird haptic feedback stuff that my phone got in 1.5.3)
+1 on infused 1.5.0. 1.5.3 does have a weird thing going on with haptic feedback. but loopy smoothness makes a difference, so maybe that could be added.
I also think the stable release of infused v2 is good. but if he hopes to use the hdmi mhl adapter then its a no-go. v2 is rogers based and they didn't get hdmi capabilities in canada for some odd reason. also the att rom and modem get better speeds, even after the "fix" I don't get quite the transfer rates that the att firmware offered but gingerbread seems to have much improved browsing performance so its not a big deal to me. other than that I can't think of any issues with it.
I'd say Infused 1.x. If he REALLY wants Gingerbread, Infused 2.x, but that's still a work in progress. Infused 2.x is my "daily driver" but it has some known issues. (I just don't care about said issues as they don't affect me - I'm still trying to help fix them if I can. Data speeds I can't work on as I live in the boonies, we've only had 3G for two years!)
There are no ROMs from Bozo and I - we're kernel hackers. (Exception: LB is working on a CM7 port but it is NOWHERE near ready).
Actually, any of the Froyo ROMs are very solid. There's only one Gingerbread ROM out now.
The nice thing about the Infuse is that our devs coordinate with each other. As a result, in terms of ROMs and Kernels, currently it's "quality not quantity". We don't have any "hey look I can deodex too!" ROMs. (at least not yet)
I'm loving Infused v2 and use the Bluetooth pairing daily in my car. Its been as stable, if not moreso, than stock. The browser also doesn't checkerboard like stock did - which is a big win if you're looking forward to browsing the web on this huge screen.

I know my post count is low... but I am a senior level dude w/ 10 years at my current company and am speaking from personal experience here (albeit from the iOS side). Unless your CEO is capable of flashing ROMs and troubleshooting issues on his own, my advice is to leave it bone stock. Show him some cool apps on the Market, point him to XDA, answer questions that he may have, hell maybe even suggest checking out the dev section and looking into aftermarket ROMs. But once you modify his phone, it now becomes your responsibility and CEOs work 24x7x365...
I guess I'm just really surprised that I'm the only one here who thinks this might be a bad idea, and maybe I'm just an old fart but I just wanted to provide some experience from the flip side of the coin. I assume you've already flashed - so good luck man!

If you or your boss can handle any issue that may arise, say, boot loops
If you both are noobs then stick with stock.

I could not agree more. I am a Senior IT Support Engineer and my CEO is a gadget guy who has to have to the newest toys. I would NEVER load a custom ROM on one of his devices EVER as this would put me in a very bad position especially if his device suddenly started acting flakey. Keep it stock and show him some apps and he will be perfectly happy using the phone and if you are like me get him to buy you an Infuse and you can play around with yours and when you find a good stable platform then upgrade his device to that. I always get an identical device to the CEO because he wants me to be able to assist him with issues. I know everyone isn't as lucky as me but it can sometimes be a serious PIA as he will call me constantly with stupid questions.

+1 to Stock.
Unless he and you want to be tinkering all the time with each other.
Go for refuse 1.7. Good first ROM
Agreed on staying stock
Believe it or not, I was seriously considering staying stock anyway (for all the stated reasons), but wanted to get an idea of what some of the 'better' (a highly subjective term, I know) ROMs were based on people's opinions, as a means of comparison. Fortunately for me, he got called out of town so I now have a week to live with the device for awhile and learn it's idiosyncrasies and whatnot.
So, unless stock proves to suck, (which I doubt), I'll keep it that way.
Thanks all for your input.
