http://db.androidspin.com/android_developer_display.asp?developerid=76
does somebody know which radio/spl is required?
Im downloading it now and I will let you know how it goes.
I have 1.33.2010 SPL
And 1.5.2 Amon RA recovery I think
the openteam AOSP 2.1 Eclair ROM ported by brian cook ..
tested it 2 days ago ... fast .. and the nexus one home launcher works fine .. but the application list display simulation not same with original nexus one.. and still look nice and handsome ... thing that do sux alot is.. the video playback.. wont work .. so still not becoming my perfect daily ROM... so far most stable aosp 2.1 eclair rom .. is this rom comes from openteam and the kingklix rom ... but this rom live wallpaper aren't same with kingklix rom ... its hard to explain ... but if u do tried both ROMs .. u will noe wat the differences ... 1 more thing .. the new gallery app should not exist .. (this rom u will have 2 gallery app) coz the app wont work smooth .. so just uninstalled it .. for my point of view
Just did some testing after flashing. It is quite fast. It's the fastest ROM Ive seen, not that I try too many roms.
It's quite nice. I would use this every day.

I have a question, how is the live wallpaper, especially the GRASS ?
is it smooth? cuz when i've tested it was a bit choppy, then i've done another test and used instead of brians port, i used a port i've made with the MAGIC PORT tool, and there was huge difference, grass wallpaper was smooth as butter the only thing is that it dont stays after screens get locked... after unlocking i am back with the static wallpaper .
all eclair roms keep either 1)rebooting randomly or 2) freeze on me. cant find a stable one.
the bcrook88 port for this ROM is for OLD radio...
How many as dured de first boot ?
I've tested this one for a bit yesterday and found a few FC's even after reboot. The live wallpapers are cool, but a little chunky, of course. Usable for everyday, but not fast.
I would have to say that Kingklicks is more stable, with zero FC's so far and is a bit quicker. It also appears to be smoother, but that might be my imagination. The only issue I've noticed is with the Launcher which tends to bog down for several seconds between select applications. I'm still playing around with it, but pretty happy about Kingklicks port.

i know its for the old radio... i change the radio and roms so often, that my signature is no more updated...
Load block at the "htc magic" screen! Is that normal ?
is for radio 6.35.xx.xx???
just put "OpenEclair 32A Port v1.2.1" on my device.
seems really stable, speed is ok.
I think I will stay on this rom.

no, that is NEW radio
this port is for OLD radio...
edit:
@robocik
yes, well, i haven't been referring to you, as you see it brings up a lot of confusion for which radio is this really : )
Tried this, and it worked great, except no YouTube is a deal-breaker for me. If I could do even low quality youtube I would be using it.
Looking forward to Eclair drivers for G1/Magic.
For us with 32A with old radios, a great ROM. No YouTube nor video camera, not thaaat deal breaker for me, but I hope bcrook can solve this on the next kernel port
thanks a lot for the explanation

used it for a couple of days and then found out people couldnt reach me. after i reset the phone i suddenly had 5 missed calls and a couple of text messages saying i had some voicemails.
so i dont trust this rom anymore
reception was at max by the way
Just to clarify, will this work on a previously Rooted MyTouch 3G Fender or v1.2 model that's 32A, with the 2.22 radio? And if so, would someone only need to just flash the two zip files in recovery?
When it says "First boot will take a very very long time as we do some permissions fixes and other stuff", are they talking 10 mins, 30 mins, an hour?

hi all
thanx for all the guys who help me to install hero rom
but now im boring and i wish that i didn't install this rom because it's very slow and a lot of lag and restating.
can any one advice me if it's good to stay at the same rom until the update is coming or should i go back for the original rom .
than x
well if you have a 32B Board then i understand when you say it is laggy and slow as i had it on my G1. In this case i would recommend you to install the 32B port of the cyanogen Rom which is very fast and stable.
Now if you have a 32A board then your probably doing something wrong as you you should not experience any slow downs..
He's got the 32B version.
You can also turn off TouchFlo, this will speed your phone up quite a bit. But you also loose access to the HTC widgets until you turn it back on.

minogue: I've a 32A, and did not experience any slowdowns only initially. Once you start loading more apps and whatnots it does slowdown, although acceptable. When I flashed back to my stock rooted ROM, I realized Hero is quite slow after all .

Try loading up your stock ROM with as many widgets and background process as the Hero and you'll see the Sense UI is actually pretty fast ans smooth. I really don't see a slow down at all, the only time it hesitates a bit is the first wakeup in the morning. I'm guessing it has to reopen all the process etc.. that are stored in the RAM.
Clinton
ClintonH: I've tried that before . Anyway, according to reviews at Gizmodo and BGR, the actual Hero feels sluggish as well. Thanks for the tip anyway!
On-topic, I'm currently using RAv1.1.0 and liking it very much. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538645
Gizmodo is not to be trusted there sites basicaly just a news funnel.(much like engadget) read from more crediable(i know i spelled it wroung) sites like cnet are better (theres more)
http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/0,39030106,49303060,00.htm
but just to note some sites say its slow some say fast so there's a theroy that some might have issues.
also to put this is prospective how many wigets(which are apps) are you running at once? the Iphone can only run one at once and i can tell you its not becuase apple just dosent want you run more than one.
I had same thoughts on the hero roms, cyanogenmod is extremely fast and i have always ended up going back after trying the hero roms
I also suggest Cyanogen's. I am running a 32A version of 3.9.3 and its great.
But how do you turn off Sense?
Was looking into installing the hero rom on my magic
was going to use
JACHeroSKI 2.7.3
looking at the good replies
anyone have any other suggestions?
something that ALL the features work without problems (wifi, bluetooth, etc) and no lag?
thanks in advance!

Umm Best is all relevant no matter what rom u choose there are going to be issues and might want to post this in the general section
ive tried a few and feel that qteks swap hero is the fastest running
available here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540745
I think Qteks or eVIL D Hero rom are currently the fastest/best for 32B.
thanks everyone!
will try the qteks
and im sorry for posting in the wrong section
I used qtek on my mt3g and it looked great and ran amazing. the browser is double touch and works really well also has flash. but it killed my battery from 76% to 20 in 30 mins of use.
Have to agree, I've been using the qtek ROM for a week or so now and am loving it. Theres a bit of lag when switching between heavy duty apps ie copilot but no real show shoppers. By the looks of it though there are some interesting things happening on the dream boards that will go on our sapphires quite easily.
Until then I'm sticking with qteks swap version.
Have fun
Just curious I have the dreaded perfect spl that they have rooted! YAY! But that's not the point, I was wondering if it is actually necessary to root my phone to install a hero rom? If it is I have everything ready already made the gold card and all that stuff! Thanks for the help.
Yes you have to change the SPL is you want to load custom ROM.
I tried qtek's compache rom, Worked really well the first time... Then next reboot most of the text on the icons were replaced with Squares... Made it unuseable.... Hmm.. I am going to try the swap version now.
qteks works but my sms doesnt work which is a show stopper wit me
JacHero 1.2. BT and LED's work. BUT wifi does not.
From using CyanogenMOD, to Qteks ROM, to JACxHero 2.7.4r2. The best form my experience has been JACxHero, I know that Cyanogen isn't a hero ROM, but it is a very well known ROM that some may try. Qtecks ROM was nice, but because the SMS did not work it was no dice. JACxHero is very fast once you change your home screen up a bit, SMS works, WiFi works. They only downside, that I've experienced is that when you go to create a text message and you turn the phone sideways to type in landscape mode, the keyboard does not change. It changes for any other app and the browser, but doesn't change for messaging. So my vote will be JACxHero 2.7.4r2
Testing ZeroXd's port... seems very speedy and fluid...
Someone else's opinion about it ?
Unfortunately I am having a little snag her... evil and Jacxhero just sit there and loop at the "Hero" starting screen and fatla1ty doesn't have the screen problem with the pixelization (spelling?) but the rom is incredibly slow! Qteks was nice and fast but as stated before the screen problems are too much, I guess I might wait a little while until something not so buggy comes out. Unless some one knows of something better or some other rom's that I haven't tried..... or how to fix the looping problem on evil's rom and Jacxhero? - Thanks JinX

im using MT3G, JACHero 2.7.3, works great! although, i hate how i always get the loading "htc" screen after going through too many apps or trying to change the wall paper. still with this problem, i'd say this Hero ROM is the best. ive tried (evil Hero, Drizzy V3, and ZeroXd)... they all had major lag. or maybe its just me. lol.

I too have tried different ROMs and the latest one I've flashed is Drizzy's Hero-V1.2r1 [09/09/2009]. It has been 2 days of use and I am really liking it. It is clean and apps have worked well. I think there is a v1.3 coming soon so look out for that one.
My two favorites right now are Modaco 1.5 and Evil Hero 2.3xx. IMO Modaco is a little bit quicker/smoother with Sense UI but since Evil is sporting BFS the responsiveness of some of the apps is MUCH better.
Currently I'm running Evil but I literally just flashed it 2 hours ago so I'm still playing around with it / testing it. I also just got my class 6 sd card in the mail so I'm about to partition that bad boy and reinstall a Rom. Can't decide if I want to try Modaco or Evil first...
id say none atm as they all have annoying problems of swallowing up them all important messages
have a cyanogenmod rom there fast as **** and customisable summit rotten
As of now MoDaCo 1.5
I´m new posting here, but I´d been searching for a while in this forum for a Sense Rom that makes me forget enomther´s 1.6 Rom (the one I revert back after getting tired of FC´s and Homescreen Loads of the latest Rom) and I had finally found the first native looking 32B SenseRom.
The curiosity is that I found it in Dream´s Dev Forum...based on one Rom from guess who: Eugene!
[ROM] Sense Revolution v.2.2:

Good News: I´d installed this Rom with just one partition (fat32 of course)= Fastest ever Sense xperience you´ll ever enjoy+ no FC+ NO HOME LOADS.

02/12/09 Update : New Version is called MYHEROrevolution v.2 (direct link added)
If you are tired of home loads using a Sense Rom, in my modest opinnion you should stick to Qtek´s latest work.

I would've said this was the wrong place for this but it's actually pretty helpful. I didn't notice it in the dream section. Seems that's the only place 32b magic users find most roms.
Thanks for the heads up justclimb, flashing right now just to try it out. Wifi's a bummer. I use that ALOT.
Update: Wifi seems to be working on it. It's a little sluggish though, i'm going to reflash with the proper partitions.

well i think this is a good poll my vote is hero_over it's very stable and super fast and no lag in the homescreen you need a swap and ext but thats is no problem with the new amon recovery ;-) and the best thing is wifi g-sensor works ;-) i tryed many roms so... this runs best for me
If only ttran001's OTPA Sense UI ROM was here i would vote for that.
I've been using it for 4 weeks now and its the smoothest thing i've ever tried
have any one tried the rom by maxima
as the guys at the unlockr recommend it as the best ROM
It is the best, right after ttran001's ROM.
Maxisma's got the kernel problem with SOME! people being able to use the ROM and some people not.
ttran001 had that problem too, but he fixed it by a reverting patch to another kernel.
SO how does Trojan Final Hero stack up against the roms of ttrann001 and maxima's?
Ive got the Trojan Final Hero rom installed, almost never had the loading screen but every app i launch does take two seconds or so to actually boot up, you click, screen goes black for a few secs and i see the app. However ive not had a homescreen reload yet. I do have to use 128mb swap to prevent that tho.
Since some chefs had sadly abandoned this forum...
I´ve just added some links to their newest work.
I also wanted to add after i saw you linked eugene's old rom, that SuperMagic is one of the BEST roms i've ever tried. i liked it better than trojan rom!
It doesn't have the regular sense ui rosie but it's very solid and pretty snappy. My only problem was every now and then getting loading screens, i believe it was because i was using 32mb swap. I'm probably going to restore my nandroid backup and try that out again!
Currently trying qtek's and loving it!
It's a close call between eugene's and qtek's. very close.

I did. Think i don't like about it is it took a great deal of time to open apps/settings/widgets. that's my gripe with most hero roms, the wait time on answering the phone, opening up a map when i need it open and flipping through multiple settings.
Hero over's nice, but supermagic just stomped it when it came to snappyness in between different apps and things of that sort.
Maybe i did something wrong in the settings, i'll probably give it a try. I've tried alot of roms, it's possible i might've made a setup mistake.
Devs had both jumped out or stopped their work on 32B SenseRoms...
One thing amazes me: Why on the Hell doesn´t HTC put a Donut or Eclair Update into their 32a Magics?
Since it all keeps the same, no one seems to relaunch the dev-party...

I might be wrong about hero_over´s ROM, but I first abandoned it due to battery problems, and afterwards I return to it after some positive comments and noticed that the very same problems kept going. Then I tried pulling some widgets out of my home screen, and now battery lasts for two days of normal use: Music Widget was the cause.
Arguably the fastest and balanced Sense Rom out there, Mlign´s 3.0 was my last try, nothing kept my attention.
I´ll take it for a round...
Poll battle is a fierce one on the top

Qtek´s is the most reliable, the latest 2.2 version lacks swap management, wait a little for Qtek´s work to finished and you´ll had the fastest Rom in there:
Until then I keep using Herver´s, and appart from a few battery nightmares, the rom is reasonably fast, so it´s easely recomendable.
Not sure it should be some kind of competition, but if it is about giving a shout out to a dev's ROM that has really impressed then I've got to say;
Hero_over
I've had this ROM on my phone since last friday and I haven't had a FC, home restart or noticeable slow down even yet! No other Hero ROM has given me that, nor have I been able to keep any other Hero ROM on the phone for more than a couple of days. I tried multiple different Hero ROMs but day-to-day useability just wasn't there if I was being honest with myself. I gave up on Hero on the 32b and went to CM, I used his and upgraded right up to the latest 4.2.5 with Enoch as a theme. That ROM is seriously fast, yet Hero_over hasn't suffered in comparison. A friend has a Hero and we couldn't see any difference in use, can't say fairer than that.
The only thing I haven't got working is BT, but I haven't tried a headset and I haven't really investigated any soultions in the thread as I don't use BT.
I switch between different sense ui ROM. Now, I found a ROM made for G1 but also compatible with MT3G. It runs smoothly on my 32B device.
You guys might want to try it.

That´s a good ROM based on Drizzy´s...yet you should know that Vodafone 32b´s have some isues with graphics as well as some unspected reboots.
PD: I´m downloading Qtek´s latest version 2.3: Link updated.
How come ttran001's newest rom is not in this list? I think it's an awesome rom. Incredibly stable, pretty snappy, and it's just as good as Qtek's in my opinion. It should be updated.
Hey... I'm a little confused regarding which ROM to pick for my 32A magic.
I really like the new officialli feautures (Sense and look--- Home screen, weather animations etc etc) on the HTC legend and Desire.
That's why i wan't to pick a rom which look like the "feel" of Legend / desire.
But what roms is like that?
What's important is:
- Stable
- Fast
What can you recommend? Unfortunately there are very little screens of the different version / comparisons... Thats why i'm asking here
Recommend: Read this before starting a thread, Most Question Asked are Answered
Q- Which ROM is best for me/ Which ROM is the best for 32A/B?
A- Take some time on the forums, look at the ROMs available for your device and individually assess what works for you by reading the various issues affecting them and make a decision. If that still doesn't work out for you, hey, that's what makes XDA great, try a different one and so on, till you find one that YOU'RE happy with. It's very subjective since what my needs are could be totally different from what yours are.
Yes but instead of testing all the roms... Then i know that many doesn't meet my requirements..
"I really like the new officially feautures (Sense and look--- Home screen, weather animations etc etc) on the HTC legend and Desire." Therefore i will like a rom based on that..
And without to many screens on the site :/ it could be very easy for someone just to recommend me a couple based on that..
You can start your search here, it even includes some ratings for stability/speed etc. Just make sure it's the correct type (32A/32B) and that your radio version is correct for that rom.
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668090
(replace "hxxp" with "http")
I'd recommend Senpei's Legend rom. It's 2.1 with all the Sense UI goodness without too many crazy mods to unbalance it. It's for 32A w/ 6.35 radio.
For SenseUI on 32A magic, I suggest CursorSense. It's cupcake, but everything works, it's fast and perfectly stable. I still find alot of the eclair sense ROMs for new radio are still a bit unstable and some things like camera and BT may or may not work.
The problem about a topic like this is that we get one every week or so. And since it doesn't have anything to do with development of phone OS related stuff it would probably fit better in another category
Anyway
32A Cupcake with HTC sense go for CursorSense.
32A Eclair with HTC sense go for Senpei's Legend or CapySlide.
Alan090 had a decent port of the my touch slide rom here recently. Old radio.
Only thing not working decently appeared to be bluetooth. But this is a sense issue affecting android 2.1 ports to magics apparently.
I Think you would find that this rom had alot of what you want.
Personally im hoping he keeps updating it with the new cm kernel ports and the pershoot improvements. I Would like to move to it soon as my second rom.
Otherwise I agree with ronni.
The only problem I had with any new radio sense port was the fact that usb tether doesn't work properly for me.

Personally im hoping he keeps updating it with the new cm kernel ports and the pershoot improvements. I Would like to move to it soon as my second rom.
Otherwise I agree with ronni.
The only problem I had with any new radio sense port was the fact that usb tether doesn't work properly for me.

was waiting for an update to the rom from chiefz but he seems to have been on cyanogenmod 5 or something I know thats what I am using
also this is either suited for the general section - or like above - try out a bunch
see what works for you
Thank you very much... I will look into the different Roms listed here...
But one major thingh missing.. Is screenshots of the rom's. Ex just a screendump of the homescreen and menu screen could be VERY usefull...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcZmwn_tDpk

Well, it's not really a new ROM, but I haven't tried it until now...
I was always disappointed by the speed, incoming calls lag, and constantly reloading homescreen with sense ROMs. I will give it a try though! Thanks for your video!!
You are right, everyone tells he has the fastest ROM out there but in the end I got tired trying all ROMs - and maybe missed the real fast one...
One question: which sdcard and settings (partition, compcache, swap, etc.) do you use on your 32B running this rom?
Thanks!

That's right. But let's face it - our device IS old and at the end of the day it's just a phone - and as such it's good if it works as supposed (and don't miss calls bcause being too slow...). So we have to live with an old version and won't be able to get all the cool new features without getting a new phone...

actually some of the eclair roms work just as fast as cupcake. it all depends on how much it has been optimized for g1.
check out Super E
On video it looks really smooth, I'm downloading it right now. Let's try this thing out, I don't care if it's Cupcake, because IMO Cupcake Hero > Vanilla Eclair, only con is that many newer apps is not compatible with 1.5. But for me it's not an issue - I use very few and rather old apps, so it's not a problem for me at all . Flashing and giving feedback in few hours.

While I'm definitely not one to dispute the greatness of the Eclair on the g1 (and Froyo on it's big chested sister, the MyTouch) it needs to be understood that we are at an End of Days. Regardless of it's validity, the rumor that Gingerbread will require a 1Ghz isn't terribly far-fetched. And the state of newer Android phones shows that 1Ghz is quickly becoming the baseline, with newer and in production phones going even further. Maybe this Hero rom is out of date for running the newest apps, but hell, our phone is limiting that more than the OS is! So let's do the time warp, enjoy some majik from yesteryear, and be content knowing that we can still do amazing things with our Androids and marvel at what was created when we were still kings. For, someday, we must all retire our phones.
Everyone's waiting.

actually i think one of the main android dev team said 3.0 would work on the g1. its out this year, so not long to wait to find out
and froyo in its current form runs just about acceptably on it, so i think u should give our dear old g1 some credit its still got life in it yet
Yep, I also think that every hardware has its limitations and everything beyond 1.6 is a liitle too much for G1 (however CyanogenMod 6 is something like a miracle, it adds SO MUCH to the system, so much goodies and it runs nearly as good as Donut, one thing to improve is stability). We can port 2.1, 2.2, Hero Eclair and much more, but for what reason? Only to say "yep, it is possible" but not even 10% fast enough?
I'm so happy that even having the oldest Android device I can run almost everything that was realesed for any Android phone and I'm really thankful to all those devs, but sometimes we have to face the truth. If you want usable Sense ROM - it has to be Cupcake Sense.
So far - it's great! It runs very, very smooth! Not only that - it loads apps very quickly. I'm really happy for now. Let's see how's battery life and if it slows down after few hours. HTC improved Android very much with Sense. They've added many features not present in stock Android, and their Cupcake Sense is good enough to beat even vanilla Eclair. IMO ofc.

brothers, do not worry, android is based on linux and linux is known for getting performance out of ageing devices (like our g1). when gingerbread is released you will see what i mean
why start a new thread?
