Skype on WM RIP?! - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

IF you go to http://www.skype.com/mobile/, what you find absent is Windows Mobile!
This story makes me hope that Skype for WM is not dead, because I use it almost every day.
What do you think?

Yeah but there are plenty of other apps that can connect to skype

Such as?
Fring? Tried it. Not as good.
Nimbuzz? Same.
What else is there?

Not sure why they had never put a link to windows mobile so it is better to download it just incase.
http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/windowsmobile/

implus (latest version only) works well for skype Although its only a short trial version

Perhaps this has got something to do with it!!!

This is on their FAQ:

It seems to suggest a new version coming?

I hope so!

Windows Live Messenger Beta for Windows Mobile

Found this on pocketinfo.nl
http://www.pocketinfo.nl/artikel/6153
It's a clip demonstrating the upcoming Windows Live Messenger for Windows Mobile.
Anyone know if it can be downloaded, and where from?
I have seen some screenshots of this before on msmobiles.com but the guy that posts articles is a bit of a jerk, so I tend not to post there unless I feel like a rant.
im also looking for this to download too, looks very impressive
've used beta 10.7 live mobile, it's really cool... but makes the device a little slower. Still, a great step ahead!
You can get it on hofo (if you search a little) or in gsmhosting
Tempting!, can anyone post a link on this thread?
The only one I can find is a smartphone version. It won't install on my Wizard.
In fact the demo shows a smartphone version of it. Maybe we can expect something from the same source ?
yup, i'm using it on my tornado, no ppc version leaked that i know of
The PC beta made huge demands on the graphics card and slowed my reasonably spec'd tecra to an almost halt.
On the PC version, you can turn off the extra animation and shadow effects, it's these that would have strained your laptop.
It's not relevant to the Windows Mobile version though, completely different interface.
Hi. did I find the msn here http: // www.uploading.com/es/? Get=AJTUM3RT. But the problem is in that it does not work in windows mobile 2003 :s I cannot make it work in my ipaq h6315. Does some solution exist?[/i][/b][/u]

It won't install on WM5 Pocket PC's as it is designed for WM5 Smartphone's. If you did run the installer, you see a message saying the Pocket PC version is "Coming in the near future"
edit: link without the spaces http://www.uploading.com/es/?get=AJTUM3RT
lets hope that windows live is released for wm2003se too, atleast wm2003se deserves windows live if not wmp10

Planet3 (UK) on Touch Pro ?

Hi!
Has anyone got the Planet3 (Skype, MSN and TV) working on this phone.
I tried the User agent hack and the browser.dll (posted by Sub69), but in one case it says my phone is not supported and the other will redirect me to the www.three.co.uk main site (browser.dll one)
I would really like to get it working as Three has the best internet for mobiles in UK (at least what I could find).
Please help me!
Anhtuan
EDIT - After soft reseting few time (one didnt do it), it seems to work with a url - mobile.three.co.uk/hb/singleurl. Have the N95 browser.dll active also. So let the testing begin

The TytnII is supported and sold by 3UK. To make your phone appear like a TytnII, amend the broswers useragent string to
HTC_TyTN_II Mozilla/4.0
Then going to mobile.three.co.uk will give you the HTC version of Planet3, which you have already found. No need to make your phone pretend to be a Nokia when it can appear like a Kaiser
Hi, i am an aussie 3mobile user here and would like to use the skype on planet three as well. Can you guys let me know if it works and also just a brief guide how do i make the changes so that i could download the skype app from 3planet into my TP. Thanks!

Three don't have a Skype client for Windows Mobile, you need to install the iskoot client and make some registry changes so it points at the 3 Skype servers.
I got my Hermes working with the free Skype service on 3 by following post #46 on this page
http://tinyurl.com/6gaf4a
This is for UK users so you'll have to google to get the correct settings for your country, but the basic principle will be the same.

I have 1.66 official rom from htc.com (europe one, edning with 479.2) and its not working..

If you give us more details we will be able to help more.
skype stopped developing for windows mobile. ive read that they are working on a wp7 version, but support for 6.5 has stopped. unfortunatly, the alternative i was going to reccommend, fring, has dropped skype support 'due to network stress' (there is a lot of talk that it is due to the iphone and apple not liking it), so i would expect a a lot of 3rd party providers to follow. you could have a look at nimbuzz, but ive got no experience in using it.

i have the PPC version installed on my HTC and the only issue is on the create account screen, and you will need to download a patch that fixes the sound coming out of the wrong speaker

I have Skype 3.0.0.256 , the latest version for Windows Mobile.
This is not extracted from EXE file, this is the CAB from skype site (it was there)
it doesnt need and patch or anything, I use it everyday making calls, chat with no problem.
(I still dont know why they decided not to continue supporting this, works perfect)
here you have it.

Just look at this explanation!

Why can’t I download Skype Lite or Skype for Windows® phones?
Unfortunately, Skype Lite – a version of Skype for your mobile phone – and Skype for Windows phones are no longer available for download from our site.
We’ve chosen to withdraw Skype Lite and Skype for Windows phones because we want to offer our new customers an improved mobile experience – much like the version that has proved so popular on the iPhone, and which is now available on Symbian phones. Our focus is on providing a rich user experience that allows you to enjoy free Skype-to-Skype and low cost calls as easily on the move as you do at your desktop.
We felt that Skype Lite and Skype for Windows phones were not offering the best possible Skype experience.

What is skype. I've heard about it for these past 2 years but never bother to check it out.
I just went to the official website and the only thing I got from it was People paying for a skype credit to use skype services such as "free calling" and not using mobile minutes.
Can someone tell me what use do you use skype on their HD2 for? It seems like its great but I am not convinced enough to try it out.
I can upload to u a skype cab. but I suggest to use fring, since it allows to speak with earclip. voice experience provided by skype.cab is very bizzarre...the only loadspeaker will work!
I have Skype 3.0 for Windows Mobile which must be executed from your PC and an Active Sync connection and I have it installed on my Rhodium and it works great via Wi-Fi and wherever I have 3G. As just mentioned there is a CAB version available as well. I don't get this decision to make it unavailable to Windows Mobile users given that Verizon Wireless has Windows Mobile devices in their stable and if you get your hands on 3.0 for WM devices why no love for these devices?

What a shame... they cant develop good interface for winmo and they blame it easily on the OS itself
There is nothing the HD2 cant do what an iPhone does but there are a million things the HD2 can do but the iPhone can not

The Second link i quoted in my original post, has an app that you run as well as Skype that reroutes sound to the earpeice, or louspeaker.

Skype no longer available for WM phones

If you are a skype heavy user with your mobile (as myself), let me tell you that is no longer available for download in the skype's website. They state the following:
"We’ve chosen to withdraw Skype Lite and Skype for Windows phones because we want to offer our new customers an improved mobile experience –much like the version that has proved so popular on the iPhone, and which is now available on Symbian phones".
So...if you have installed skype for wm in your phone, you will only have 2010 to still used it.
read the whole thing here
Can I still use Skype Lite if I already have it?
Yes. People who have already installed Skype Lite can continue to use it throughout 2010.
Can I still use Skype for Windows phones if I already have it?
Yes. People who have already installed Skype for Windows phones can of course continue to use it.

On the second question they do not say anything about stopping after 2010...
So?, do they will launch another version later?, or will be gone forever?
skype is not giving a detailed explanation on what will happen after 2010 finishes...
Hope they do something about it
Thanks for the article

You problably are right orb, my first impression was...mmm...maybe they are preparing skype for Windows Phone 7....but if they shutdown the service (app compatibility) by the end of this year for WM, I'll be scre**d....because I'm still planning to have my HTC devices until next year. I still have my Nokia which was a present, but my primary device is the Kaiser....man I love WM..and seen this makes me consider to migrate to other OS.
