New toshiba phones - General Topics

Hello
Toshiba's presence at MWC was kicked off today by launching two new phones with an emphasis on software, not hardware. The TG02 is a direct sequel to the TG01 and is one of Toshiba's first phones with capacitive touch; it uses Windows Mobile 6.5 and is likely to use 6.5.3 to get the new touch features. Custom changes have been made to the interface to bring in a 3D menu for navigating apps.
The phone is functionally very similar to its predecessor and uses a 1GHz processor as well as a 4.1-inch screen size, though unlike the old model it uses OLED instead of LCD. A microSDHC slot gives room for 32GB of storage in the 0.39-inch thick handset.
A companion, the K01, is more original and carries a slide-out keyboard in return for a thicker (0.51 inches) body that keeps the same processor, screen and storage.
Ship dates and the costs of either phone are still mysteries and won't become public until closer to launch.

We can notice spb mobile shell on toshiba tg02, is it a lite version ? Toshiba may wants to give a better image of its mobiles, and a good interface like spb could help !
-> What do you think about these 2 new devices ?
-> Do you think toshiba could hold in the battle ?

This could be my next device

the K01 is the more interesting of the two devices. 4.1in qwerty device and it's still thin. Judging by the looks of the front capacitive buttons and the snapdragon chipset I'm thinking it will support Windows Phone 7. I wish it had a adjustable hinge like the Touch Pro2, but it has a 4.1in screen so it not a deal breaker for me. As much as I want this phone I'd rather wait to see what HTC will do for the next Touch Pro

I am actually interested in the K01. This is the first qwerty device to have a +4 inch screen. I send big kudos to Toshiba.

That is one sexy phone, although...unless it is based on something entirely new there is a lot suspiscious about it.
1. The Home and Back buttons, those are WM Smartphone keys, not WM Professional keys
2. Its a lot thinner than the Touch Cruise, which makes me wonder if its based on a new platform
3. The seem in this pic, seems reminicent of a slider design...I almost think this might be more a revised T-Mobile Shadow for Europe...What do you guys think?

I'd have to disagree, here are some pics of my Touch Cruise, most pictures online don't capture it very well. Being a smoked mirrorlike finish, its look really depends on how you photograph it...
Looks really great with this black shiny finish!
The Question really is what kind of cpu is in it. So far I havent seen any information about that. Just empty words but no facts.
If this phone would really be another Polaris Clone, then the question is, where have all the keys on the outer frame gone? The only two keys, that are left are those for min/max Volume. No camerabutton, at least I wasn't able to see it on any photo. Also a statement points out that it uses a VGA-Resolution and has already WM6.1 as OS on it.
Another thing is that there is no Card-slot to be seen on the frame as it is clearly visible on the TC. Everybody is talking about a "huge internal memory" something about 4GB. So there are only two conclusions, either there is an internal chipslot for a microsd, so you need to detach the casing and perhaps the battery to change a card or T-Mobile is completely relying on an internal memory like 4GB. I think that the latter possibility is not the prefered one.
Anyways, that were my 2 cents and mainly only speculation, I'm looking forward to getting more information about that stylish Design Device.
Greetz.
Just visited a TMO shop in London and they said the MDAC4 won't be out "for a long time". In fact, the guy was so impressed with my TC I thought he was going to make me an offer for it!
Silver finish looks sleek, the black versions look really cheap, IMHO.
bump
Any news
Time to leave t-mobile. hmm o2 is absolutely sh*t
7.2Mbps HSDPA, GPS, VGA resolution screen, WiFi and 4GB of on-board storage. Windows Mobile 6.1 at this point.

Any other way of touch with t-mobile apart from calling customer services?

Worth moving to Diamond2?

Hello all
I have option to buy the Diamond2 in UK in a week as it comes out, its very tempting but I'm not sure cause the Diamond2 is not so much better than my Cruise as I see. I don't want devices like Omnia HD or Toshiba G01 cause they are very big & don't want to leave this forum.

Diamond2 pro's over the Cruise:
-looks better + steel
-size, lightness & weight
-little bit faster CPU (I don't know about the video & graphics drivers)
-very fast response as never seen on HTC devices (rumor?)
-screen size & resolution
-more ram & rom
-5mp camera (not much difference from my 3mp)
-TF3D 2 (will be ported sooner or later to qvga)
-accelerometer
Obvious Diamond2 is better device but the differences are minor and the most annoying thing is that devices like the old Omnia maybe faster (i read that D2 response so fast as never seen on HTC devices - is it rumor?)
Anyway no device worth buying without the support like this forum so don't know if Diamond2 worth buying or keep waiting for HTC to make something really good...
Please help me decide any opinions, thoughts or advices are welcomed!
Well, I have just decided to do exactly the same and ordered mine. What makes it easy for me is that I'm changing jobs, so I have to return my company Cruise anyway. I think the Diamond2 is way better looking and the screen is much bigger and VGA. TF3D will not be ported to QVGA I think. The cruise just can't handle the 3D graphics. Touch HD's TF3D wasn't ported to the Cruise either in an every day working manner.
I think the Omnia and Xperia are just plain ugly, when it comes to the finishing of the housing, buttons, edges around the screen etc. I don't need a keyboard, so the TP2 is just needlessly thicker and more expensive for me. HD is just too big for me, so I end up with the D2.

HTC Touch Pro 2, is it multitouch?

Hello, is this phone multitoouch?
Does it have another name as the previous one is Raphael?
thanks!
no as far as I know no htc device support multi-touch
as far as I know wm don't really support it as it require capacitive touch
rather then resistive touch which all wm devices use could be wrong though

i think youre right thats why M$ keeps saying that i would be a great feature of WM7...
ifim not mistaken apple has a patent on multitouch but i hear the touch pro now has multitouch which can only be exploited with the developer's test kit.

if apple has a patent on multitouch sounds like cheating....
M$ has one multi-touch patent, which includes gestures, so they can legally implement it in Windows 7 and Windows Mobile 7. The Touch Pro2's code name is the Rhodium.
And when you say the Raphael has multi-touch, I believe it's kind of a false multi touch. When you touch 2 points on a resistive touch screen, the phone registers the touch at the exact distance between the two points you're touching.
So what some people have started to do is include "invisible buttons" in their emulators, etc., so when you touch the up on the virtual DPAD and the "X" button, the point registers in between them, where there is an invisible button between those two points, whose action is to perform Up on the DPAD and press the "X" Button. I know it sounds confusing, but maybe this image will help.

Should HTC bring out more smartphones?

Hi all,
I've been using the HTC Tornado Noble for 4 years already, and I'm still loving it, particularly because what the device could do for me
http://karhoe.net/my-windows-mobile-smartphone-my-everything.html
I have been tempted with the availabilities of many new touch screen device on the market but one of the thing that is holding me back is because I am not used to the touch screen input.
I have played with many touch screen input devices, be it capacitive or resistive and I find that I could not text as fast as I could with my T9 keypad.
No touch screen (even with vibration feedback) could provide the tactile feeling that a real keypad can provide. Furthermore, the dictionary function and predictive text input of a WinMo device is just very responsive.
It's been a while since HTC release a smartphone, last I recalled was the HTC S740, is it really the case that smartphones would be obsolete soon?
Maybe the iPhone craze has caused HTC to dedicate its resources towards making touch screen devices.

Yes
Another good smartphones are Excalibur and later Maple
The Best Google Android Phone Yet
The HTC Hero is a gorgeous smartphone that takes the best of the two previous Google Android phones -- the T-Mobile G1 and the myTouch 3G -- and builds on them. It's certainly not perfect, but the HTC Hero is, so far, my favorite Android phone, without a doubt. And it's earned a spot on my list of the best smartphones available today.
But nevertheless, it's still a touch screen input device!
Smartphone=non touch screen - PPC=touch screen
Not Excalibur or Maple, both are non touch smartphones
I actually think that HTC are going in the right direction with phones such as the Touch Pro2, which use a touchscreen for navigation and a qwerty keyboard for speedy typing - even faster than the alphanumeric layout used by normal phones.
The problem is there is still a niche for people who wants a real simple phone with PDA function, that's smartphone!
I would exceptionally prefer a candybar, no sliding mechanism, those ribbon are just thin and fragile
On that line of no touch smartphones, one of the best available is this:

New Wacom Driver

Just an FYI, Wacom posted new drivers today, and it appears to greatly improve the pen operations on the Surface Pro. Namely, pressure sensitive apps now actually recognize pressure (for example, Photoshop now works properly with the pen and pressure).

Why? The Surface Pro is awesome! Besides, if you keep waiting for the "next best thing", you'll never get one. To paraphrase Ferris Bueller, tech moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and enjoy the goodies once in a while, you could miss all of it.

I don't usually wait for new products, like Lumia 800/900/920 that I got for the past 1 year.
Its because Intel have already announced their Haswell processor with 3x graphics and even better power consumption, besides its only a month away :fingers-crossed:
Microsoft have said no new surface announcement will be made at build so a haswell version is unlikely.
I'm personally more interested in a bay trail version, especially if it includes an active stylus (no preference for wacom or ntrig from me). Even more unlikely to be announced than a haswell version.
