Phone boots to recovery, then reboots on its own. - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

I have RA's latest recovery for my Magic. When I boot to recovery, the screen comes up like normal, and I can actually navigate through the menu for a bit. But it just randomly reboots my phone and it boots up as normal. Phone works fine, but I am worried about running without a recovery! I have tried earasing it from console and reinstalling. Re-downloading.
Anything else you guys know of that I should try?

using an older curser sense 1.0 (wanted to update) and radio 6.35.07.29

RTFM.
- The Hero recovery is required for the new radio. The Sapphire H (Magic 32A) recovery will reboot after a few seconds.

I'll also save you another post, once you do get the recovery working:
- To select items using the Hero recovery, you need to use the green Talk/Send key on your device. The trackball select key will not work.

You have two options: either downgrade your boot to the old one or upgrade to cursorsense 1.2.4

[Q] boot loop

Hey I hate having to post this but im stumped. i was running cm7 nightly build 21 and wanted to flash back to stock pd15img. i followed the steps but when i went to update all it did was turn s on. now my mytouch gets to the animated MY logo and loops. i can still get to recovery and i have tried restore my backup but i still get the MY animated boot logo. any help or suggestions? thanks.
Did you revert your recovery back to stock or Clockwork 2.x instead of Clockwork 3.x that CM7 requires?

Yep. 2.5.1.2.. I even tried just flashing icedglacier but i still get the animated MYlogo wich continues to loop.
does the phone have to be rooted to fix this? It was prior to flashing the PD15IMG, but like i said when it was done loading the image i clicked update and it just turned s on....
okay so i just made some progress i think. i just flashed icedglacier again and this time it changed the boot logo to the icedglacier boot logo but it still loops.
on the bright side of things i was really tire of seeing the mytouch logo.

the PD15IMG is a HBoot flashed image. not via Clockwork's Recovery Manager.
What method did you follow to try and unroot your phone.
We kinda need to know what you did in order to fix it.
If you store the PD15IMG onto the root of the SD card and boot into bootloader it should automatically restore everything to a factory spec.
I unrooted my device by downloading the unroot folder and using visionary and the terminl emulator.
I didnt try to flash pd15img through clockworkmod i just put it on the root of my sd card and let the hboot do the rest once it loaded the image it gave me he update option i chose to update and when my phone came back on in hboot i saw s off and now im stuck in boot loop.
I have to get to work but if you think of anything that could help me out trhat would be awesome thanks guys for reading this in the first place
ps now if i try to load the pd15img it will load the image but there is no update opyion

Try doing this. Esp. if you did the ./gfree deal.

I also made this mistake, I had to reflash a cm7 rom or miui, downgrade the recovery to 2.5.x (could also adb push) and from there went back to stock and rerooted and flashed ice glacier.
well im downloading sdk now. my internet is super slow.

Being that you have s=on it's going to be fairly difficult. [sidenote] i still cannot believe the PD15IMG didn't work for you [/sidenote]. but you can try and use the fastboot commands. If s=off you could load a separate recovery image and flash a ROM to get you up and running.
yeah, i knew this would happen to me. when i try to adb in it dosent show my device. i have a thing with best buy where they will mail it in to htc to have it fixed but im not sure since i modded the phone.

[Q] Unable to go into recovery..HELP!

I am currently using cyanogen 7 and I wanted to try stock but...... I can get into bootloader but I don't know how to flash a new rom without Clockwork Recovery. And even with cwr it will try to boot into recovery and just hang on the Google screen with the padlock unlocked. I tried several things but I just don't know if I can flash thru adb? I'm brave but still a noob.
ive lost my clockwork recovery before... youll just need to reflash it(via fastboot, adb, or the terminal emulator included in cm7).
How do I go about it? Again I'm a noob at figuring this out..step by step set-ups anywhere? Thanks.

Went thru all the steps-all good. The problem again is when I reboot and try to go "into recovery" I have no success. My phone freezes or just stays in the Google start up screen. The bottom keys do not light up; i.e. home, menu, back. unlike a regular restart. Ugh.
My phone refuses to go into recovery mode...after several different attempts. Hangs on GOOGLE screen after I attempt to go into recovery from the fastboot screen. Any idea anyone?

Do you mean the screen with an exclaimation mark with android bot ? If yes then press volume up and then press and hold power button, you will go into stock recovery.
If no, pardon me
Which clockwork mod have you flashed? When I flashed to 3.0.0.5 I would get stuck at the Google screen. To remedy this go into rom manager scroll to the bottom and select all clockwork mod recoveries and flash the 3.0.0.0 hope this helps.

This is happening to me. I get the exclamation mark screen and the button combination you mention above doesn't do anything. Version of clockwork is recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-crespo.
I don't really understand how, in this situation, i could go back to stock or flash a custom rom. Hope somebody can help.
That did it! I downgraded to 3.0.0 from the latast cwr....Thank you all for your help and input!

That works and I was able to go in and have a look at what was on the sd card from there. I don't have anything I want to flash on there, but i really wanted to know how I would do it.
Is that the standard google recovery i'm seeing, or is it still clockwork? Writing was blue, and going by what I read it must be google one as apparently you need to re-flash clockwork every time you are going to use it (or something like that).
God I hate going through the noob stage. I remember doing it with computers, and now it's my turn with android.

That is standard recovery from Google.
Clockwork currently has orange text, and does not require any fancy key combos to get into it, it just boots up directly.
Android 2.3.1 and up have a new script added to the normal boot process that overwrites any custom recovery images with the current stock recovery. Some think it's a safety feature, most think it's an annoyance.
If you want clockwork permanently, and there's no reason you shouldn't, in my opinion, then rename the file /etc/install-recovery.sh by adding .bak or something to the extension. This will prevent that script from running. Then, the next time you flash clockwork (whether through fastboot or via ROM Mgr), clockwork should stick.

Nightlies are pretty much stable, don't let 'nightly' dis encourage you. But if thats not good enough, you can download CM7 RC1. Yes theres a RC now. It's been out of alpha for a long time, they just didn't officially announce a 'beta' but unofficially (off the books) nightlies #1-40 were betas.
After RC1, the nightlies reset back to #1.

[Q] Bootlooping and cannot open recovery

hi all,
Firstly apologies if this is covered somewhere but for the life of me I cannot get to the bottom of this. I have spent 2 weeks on and off trying to get a solution but my Sensation is still boot looping.
The problem occurred when I turned on the camera but was faced with a blank screen. I could return to home screen but the camera would not work each time I launched. So I rebooted the device but then I was stuck in this boot loop.
Device info
HTC Sensation S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.27.0000
RADIO-11.21.3504.13_2
I was running Insert Coin 2.3.5 ROM for some time without issue
I was hoping I could just do a superwipe and flash a new ROM
FAIL - each time I boot into CWM and select Recovery, it just goes back to bootloop.
I selected Factory Rest from CWM menu
FAIL - it just goes into bootloop
Also cannot use ADB as the device will not connect to the PC. Im using a card reader to put files on the SD card but have not being successful resolving the issue.
Tried an SD card from a stock Sensation, no difference. Booting with no SIM, not working.
Most Bootloop fix's seem to involve super wipes / flashing new ROMs but because my Recovery goes into the bootloop I dont have this option. I wish it was so easy.
Can anybody offer an other ideas.
Thanks for you patience, I am not much of a modder or Android expert. I had just flashed a ROM many months ago to help improve battery life and I was happy with that.
Have you tried re-installing your recovery throught the bootloader?
try different recovery (4EXT) or reinstall recovery again
thanks guys.
I found these flashable recovery files. Both CWM and 4EXT. I have tried both zips and ran the update in HBOOT but am still booting in CWM and if I select RECOVERY is goes too bootloop again.

I think I might just give up and drop the phone into a phone repair shop and let them try it.
Did both flashes work? What do you mean you're "booting in CWM"? Can you boot into your system and are you using CWM app to boot into recovery, or are you manually booting into your bootloader and selecting recovery?

Can you please re-flash the stock ics (PG58IMG), look like you have some firmware issues (sometimes you have to flash several time in order to rectify previous mistakes...) Hope it helps, otherwise (in my humble opinion) you have some hardware problem
If you can boot normally into ICS and you are rooted, then get the 4Ext app or the ROM Manager app and flash the recovery through one of those.

Flashing the ICS PG58IMG.zip doesn't replace the recovery.
Fix recovery first. Use stock recovery. When you get that working, change to "simple" cwm recovery.
thanks for the advise. It makes perfect sense as it appears it is my stock recovery that is broken.
however, I have searched around and cannot find a stock recovery image that I can flash as PG58IMG.zip.
Any help would be much appreciated.

before flashing stock recovery...can you try this first
get this recovery image
and flash the recovery via fastboot
steps:
1.go to fastboot in your device and connect it to your pc (after this device should read fastboot usb)
2.get the adb/fastboot setup ready guide here
3.go to your adb folder and place the downloaded recovery.img there
4.type fastboot devices (it should show your device serial number)
5.now to flash type
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
this should do...if it didnt work then let me know ASAP...then we'll think of other solutions

No i never took an OTA update, but i am on 2.29 instead of stock 1.85. In the aroma installer in Cleanrom i did click flash boot.img ( or i think i did anyway, i clicked "Yes") How do i boot into fastboot? I usually use the extended power settings, but it reboots before i can do that. Also when flahsing the RUU, it says failed, but it also says that i should be at the HTC screen with exclamation points in each corner, but those exclamation points dont appear.

Are you talking about Cleanrom or the RUU? It reboots into the set up screen whenever i try to boot into bootloader (By holding power and the volume rocker), but that quickly crashes and reboots into the same screen again, so i don't know how i would be able to reflash it. If you are talking about the RUU, I have tried reflashing it three times, and every time it says "Utility can not update device"

Do you ever see a screen after the HTC screen with the red writing on it? If you do, plug in the phone and open a command prompt. I assume you have ADB installed. If you don't see the link to ADB/Fastboot in my signature.
Anyway, when you see the screen after the HTC screen with the red warning on it, type adb reboot recovery. THAT should get you back to twrp and let you ref reflash.

Alright, i am donwloading the SDK. Is there anyway to make it go faster i am installing the 4.03 and 4.1 using the SDK manager, and it is taking a while. Or is there a way to just download ADB? I have an old script called ADB that i used to root with.

No OS Latest TWRP

guys, I don't know what I did but I was trying to update to CM10 but now it says I don't have an OS. when I try to boot it shows the HTC screen with the red words at the bottom about this being a dev version only. What can I do get back up on my feet? Any help is greatly appreciated. I have a ATT One X
Hold power and volume down until phone turns off. Let go of power but not volume down.. this will take you to boot loader. Then boot into recovery and flash again
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app

This is where I am stuck. I botted into recovery and it takes me to the teamwin page. The problem is that I think I deleted all my files. How do I move the ROM files back into this card? I know there is a mount USB STORAGE but WINDOWS pops up asking me that I need to FORMAT. Do i want to do that so I can move files to the phone so i can FLASH my phone? Thank you so much for your prompt response!

You will have to format if windows doesn't recognize it.. did you factory reset in boot loader? That corrupts your SD card

I think I did. So basically I move the cm10 rom over to my SD card and flash it. Do the same with Gapps. Is there ANYTHING ELSE I need to do?
if you are on hboot 1.14 you will need to flash boot.img in fastboot.

don't know what else to do. I have flashed the ROM and GAPPS & I did the boot image file. My phone still goes to the HTC quietly brilliant splash screen with the red lettering at the bottom. Any ideas? EDIT: I got it working! I redownloaded the Cm10 files and gapp files, I realized I could have been using a bad boot image file. now it works!!!! SOOO happy! Thank you ALL!

Was about to tell you to try and download the rom and gapps again to void the possibility of a bad boot.img lol. :victory:
some people are having trouble with booting new cm10. if you don't know how to toy around to get it to work i would recommend flashing 10/27 cm10 build.

Indeed. There was a dude going ape s**t about his phone getting stuck into a bootloop and was offering money via paypal for a fix. Don't know if you read that thread or not. I got him working and flashed CM10, the latest, and he got stuck at the blue circular boot screen.
Mabye if he is still having problems, relock bootloader install ruu?, Or since most new users have trouble installing boot.img, direct them to a easy rom(viperxl) to flash, since they dont have to do anything except install from recovery

I haven't heard any problems, lately, about the 10/27 build..
weird stuff with the latest CM10
I haven't had any issues with the latest Kernel failing to boot (i'm running 6/11) but the rest of the 6/11 build is behaving strangely. I was getting 70 % battery consumption by bluetooth while bluetooth was switched off. I'm now running the 27/10 build with the 6/11 kernel and the latest Gapps. It seems to be running brilliantly.
I have the 1.14 hboot though. The ones having kernel issues with the latest builds seem to be on the earlier kernel.
