Samsung i780 Wm6 GPS issue - General Questions and Answers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,
I am using samsung i780 and have installed Garmin mobile XT. My internal GPS devices after starting, searches for satellites and after finding satellites, GPS device automatically turns-off. This happens not only when I am using Garmin but with Googles maps as well. Even if I try to restart the GPS, it starts working again but not for long and stop responding after some time.
I have checked the GPS settings but no issue found.
Please help.

Navigon 5 and Bluetooth GPS signal drop HELP....

I have installed the latest Navigon 5 in my Qtek 2020 with WM2003 1.75, and my problem is that after some minutes of using Navigon, the GPS signal drops to 0 and I have to restart Navigon to have good signal again.
The strange is that my GPS device (Emtac Bluetooth GPS Crux II) never loses signal when this happens and it has the green light blinking, with meens that it has good signal.
Also with TomTom 3.07 or 4.4 or 5 this never happened and allways worked fine.
Anyone has any solution for this problem?
Hi RRibeiro,
try to assure the following:
- close all other programs except MN5 (realy close them, Windows Mobile normaly doesn't),
- deactivate "discoverable mode" and "incoming beams" in the bluetooth settings,
- if possible, pair your device with the GPS-receiver without entering a PIN,
- select a baudrate of 4800 in MN5s settings,
- if this doesn't help, get CruxView and deactivate all protocols except VTG and GGA with it.
With this, your satelite reception should be stable.
HTH,
BGK
I try'd all that except the:
-- Pair your device with the GPS-receiver without entering a PIN, -- <<<i can't do this.
- if this doesn't help, get CruxView and deactivate all protocols except VTG and GGA with it. I will try this later.
Thanks for your help.
After trying all that you said, the problem is the same.
I uninstalled Navigon 5 and installed TomTom 5 and now it's OK with TomTom.
If you have any more "tricks", please tell-me.
Thanks

you must name the gps "OTHER BLUETOOTH GPS"
when you sync it with the phone
it will work well with tomtom and other soft
I don,t know with tomtom but with Efficasoft GPS Utilities you must check in Menu->GPS Setup->AutoSearch Bluetooth GPS reciver, and see if there is your device, or choose manual your device.
After that don't forget to go to Menu->Start GPS

Good morning I have a probleme with Garmin XT and my HTC VOX it connect has my GPS but rest blocked on research satellite
install this cab and then try
View attachment enablegps.CAB
it has few registry tweaks enabling gps connection
this will help you connect
his step always not
I think your GPS programs might have been "fighting" for the GPS data or that it had bad epheremis data. It is recommended that with WM 6.1 and above to have the GPS "managed" by the system.
You do this by going from the Start Menu to Settings to System and select External GPS. Then you want to select the Port your programs will use to obtain GPS data. Normally the four lower ones were commonly used by most computer systems which is why I recommend selecting COM9 as the port.
On the Hardware tab, you need to identify which Port your GPS is on. I used GPSToggle, which is a Today plug-in, to start and warm up my GPS. You can read about GPSToggle here: http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-gps-toggle.html.
Download the CAB file which I recommend installing to your device internal memory. Then go to your Today screen and then to Settings menu followed by Today. On the Items check the box next to BAF GPS Toggle. Click okay and this will place GPSToggle on your Today screen.
Unfortunately most smartphones do not have dedicated GPS chips because they eat battery power. On a dedicated receiver like a Personal Navigation Assistant (handheld GPS aka PNA), the GPS is turned on automatically when the PNA is powered up. Depending upon when your GPS was last activated, a dedicated SIRF chip can go from cold-start to 3D fix in as little as 42 seconds and as long as three minutes if epheremis data is present and the GPS has not been moved more than 10 miles from its last power up.
For most smartphone users, the last time your GPS was fired up was when it was built in China or wherever. The GPS can retain that information as its old epheremis data which is used to communicate with satellites. If the data is bad and old, it can take much longer for your GPS to lock-on and get a 3D fix.
For this reason, it is recommended that on smartphones that a GPS utility like the ones mentioned above be used. In essence, the smartphone's GPS must be "warmed up" from a cold start state to warm state where it is communicating with satellites in resolving a 2D fix ultimately to hot state where 3D fixing is available.
GPSToggle on your Today screen will "warm up the GPS" for you when you turn it. You will then see bars indicating the number of satellites the GPS has found. Once it syncs with them, the bar will go solid. When four bars go solid, 3D fixing is available. At that point you could turn on your satnav program and should be good to go.
If you see the altitude and nothing else comes in then the BT connection is obviously ok, so pairing, establishing the connection via COM port and the program using the connection seems ok.
Your problem then is the GPS receiver not sending the data required.
Find a program that resets the GPS receiver, if you can remove the battery put it out for half a minute and reinsert it. Once the GPS has a satelite fix again it should deliver all data.
A good free powerful utility is SirfTech - obviously only useful if your BT Mouse has a SIRF chipset.

Vodafone TP no GPS

Have just got my TP on Vodafone UK, it does not have GPS enabled, is there any way I can enable it
What do you mean? There is no GPS in Start -> Settings?
Anyway try this "must have" tool from schaps so you can manage a lot of settings, GPS included.

IF I load TomTom 6, it can not fin the internal GPS, I can connect to an external GPS via Bluetooth
Sounds to me like you've got the version of tomtom that doesn't have the option of choosing the internal GPS.
Download GPSTest to see whether the GPS is automatically detected.
can i suggest u try gps test n see what that does
also try it with google maps
i think this might be a handset fault tho cant see why it would be disabled as its a selling point
Im 99% sure that TT6 doesnt support internal GPS modules, had the same problem with my N95....or come to think of it was that TT5? Hmmmm im not so sure now lol...
TT6 worked fine on my MDAC3 with internal GPS.
Funnily enough, the Voda specs page makes no mention of GPS at all

have you tried Other NMEA GPS-reciever, baudrate 4800, COM4 already?
NO GPS
Your right vodafone does not show GPS
Have tried it with Google Maps and will try it with GPStest this evening.
Spoke to Vodafone are going to send another handset
have also tried Other NMEA GPS-reciever, baudrate 4800, COM4
I have a Vodafone handset and thought the same as you.
It does have a GPS and it does work with TOMTOM 6.
1. Go to programs and slect quickgps and download.
Then go into tomtom and under showgps satus select configure and choose other NMEA GPS, slect baud rate 57600 and then load a destination.
Make sure you are outside tho and it might take 25 mins to get your first ever fix.
Mine connects within seconds now.
Good luck and let me know if I can help you further.
Could someone post the link to the Tom Tom 6 or 7 cab file for the Touch Pro?
Thanks

Neil

The traffic subscription is registered to your account, therefore it will work on version 6 or version 7. However, your maps (6.75?) will not work with tomtom 7, but you can purchase new maps from tomtom home as the touch pro is now recognised by the tomtom home application (version 2.4 or above)

I'm also facing a similar problem. Google Maps is unable to detect the internal gps receiver.
When I run, GPS Test, it just shows the GPS starting up message (with 2 yellow bars, sometimes only one). I have run quick gps and downloaded the satellite data twice already.
Can somebody please help me?

Shared GPS Port

Is there a known problem with the shared GPS port on the X7510?
If I use 3dtracking (http://free.3dtracking.net) it just locks up (the app, and sometimes the machine), but it's find on the direct port, but that locks out other GPS apps, eg. TomTom.
Recently I started using Google Latitude, and after a while with TomTom as the focus, it (TomTom) loses the satellite lock, and when I switch to Google Maps it starts with "Initializing GPS" and also picks up nothing. A reset is necessary to get GPS working again.
Anyone else had similar problems?

I'm seeing a similar issue, though no locking.
SatNav programs (TomTom and iGO8) can see the GPS Port on either COM4 or COM5
Spb Weather, which does not have any GPS Port configuration options, so must use the MS GPSID cannot obtain data from the GPS receiver.
Spb Weather can turn the GPS receiver on, as it starts the amber LED flashing, but no data is extracted, and the location query fails. It then fails to turn the GPS off again.
It works fine on the HTC Diamond

Issue with TomTom7 on HTC Touch HD

Dear all,
I have an issue with tomtom7: prog well installed, map available, but have error message "No GPS device found"
This problem has been referenced several time on other site/forum but havnt found any proper solution
Looking to the solutions proposed, I have tried:
- Hard reboot and reinstal: It has worked for one day only (in the evening I ve only installed google maps and run QuickGPS, so should have no impact)
- Configure tomtom as it was a wired gps connected to COM4 => not successful...
- installing another GPS prog (like NoniGPS) and run it in background of tomtom7 (as this one managed to connect to internal GPS device...) =>
It works... but not really good as sometimes tomtom loose the signal, and I ve to shutdown noniGPS and relunch it, then tomtom find again the gps
Im starting to think that my french provider (Orange) is blocking tomtom to force us to use their own gps prog.......
Does anybody have the same problem and found a good solution?
Many thanks,
Fabrice
i think you'd better look into the thread dedicated to tomtom on HD (blackstone)
use the search function, tomtom is working perfectly on the THD
