This boot animation is my first attempt at anything at all for android phones. It isn't very complicated. It goes well with a Cyanogen Mod for the nexus.
To install it you just connect the phone in debug mode. Start adb. type adb remount. then: adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local (you have to make sure that you type the whole path to where the animation is)
This will make it so the boot image survives through flashing.
What you get is a screen full of Bacon with a Cyan skateboarding android doing flips across the screen.
When you install this, you tell Cyanogen he turned your phone into BACON!
Every time you boot your phone, cause your flashin' it every five minutes, you get to see some succulent, frying BACON!
GET YOU SOME BACON!
(let me know if you hate it or anything)

great idea, but after seeing for the first time, i thought it looked nasty until i could see the bacon!
lol thats awesome, at least its progress. I'll look at it when i get home
I will try to get a video of some actual frying bacon to split up into frames for the boot animation. I did this one at work and was using gimp to edit the photos of the bacon. I could find a good video of bacon to use anyway. When I find one I will boost it up to frying bacon.
up close and personal with the vagino-bacon!

awesome I will see what I can do with it this weekend! I will try to have a live frying bacon boot screen up by monday!
I have a boot-"animation" i hacked together I hacked together a couple of weeks ago. Just a still image, but looks nice I think...

Feel free to work with it. Thought of adding some animated text, but never got to it...

Disgusting for vegans.
Not only for vegans..
looks disgusting to me too
Haha, when i originally saw this I was going to post that it was nasty, but thought better of it - now that I feel comfortable:
I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.
You should make the bacon a little crispier.
thanks for that. I was wondering where the boot animation lived. in the rom it is in system/media but whenever I pushed my version there it broke it .

Ok So everyone thinks the close up bacon is disgusting. I kinda agree. It was sort of a joke, but I am going to post a new one with "live" cooking bacon this afternoon.
Maybe it will go over better!

Now that 5.0 of the CM-Updater is ready, I have decided to adapt it to OpenEclair....
This is very easily done, but what i do need is artwork - not my strong point
If there is anyone out there who is arty and wants to contribute, let me know (you will be given cred).
This is exactly what i did with the cmupdater - with great results from Prash and Matt_Stang.....i am sure we could get similar results with some help from you guys
I have included a zip with everything we need an equivalent of
please submit in post form
thanks guys
EDIT: oops, forgot to include the "drawable" folder
i will commit the code here http://code.google.com/p/openeclair-updater/ (in a moment)
Glad to know that the idea has finally come into fruition, I remember you talking about it
LOL, so instead of pressing F5 every 10 seconds i can press "Check for update"
seriously though, glad it is coming.

What's really funny is OE had an updater and people *****ed about it. Now people want it again. Kind of like how they *****ed about too many updates, and now there aren't enough. Gotta love it!

And I agree with you completely lol.
Any colors in mind?
any ideas for a colour scheme for the updater?
edit: damn person above beet me to it
something that goes with OE in general....android green anyone?
there was a green version of the CM logo floating around a while ago...that shade was lovely....
i think it is somewhere in the updater thread or in matt or prashs cm theme
ill try and work on this today. ill attach it to this post.

First off, I don't know why you'd even ask for this. It's a tiny burst of vibration that happens only once when you power up the device, and that's it. There's no harm in it and I can't see a genuine reason for wanting it gone since it happens so rarley.
Secondly, you can't get rid of it. It's part of the self-diagnostic that runs when you switch on the device. If you did find a way to stop it (and I'm 99.9999999999999999999% sure you won't) then the phone would probably think there was a problem and not boot.
You're gonna have to live with it mate.

ahhh. . . so cute it neh?? can i cuddle him/her?

I was also looking for a solution to this problem.
You asked, why one should wish to deactivate this little vibration on startup...well, quite simple:
My HD2 performs its system backups every night, while it is in its cradle beside my bed. I am using SPB Backup which does a warm reset after finishing its operation. It's really not very funny to wake up every night, only because there is this "little" vibration during the boot up process.
If you are a user of a genuine HTC ROM, there is even an additional little melody playing after vibrating, which is still more uncomfortable! Only for this reason, I just reflashed my HTC ROM back to a Vodafone ROM (which only has the vibration).
I think, it would really be a good idea, If someone found a tweak to suppress the boot up vibration!

Hey everyone,
well, when I found the thread about the Droid X red-eye bootscreen, and realized nobody had gotten it to work on CM6+, i decided to take a crack at it. it took me all night, but i finally got it figured out, and working great.
when i was done, however, i was somehow upset... i had just taken apart, and put back together, someone else's animation.
this would simply not do. so, i gave it a shot. here's my first attempt at creating a boot animation, from scratch. (minus the 3d android logo, of course):
Code:
NOTE: after the circle completes and the android logo is in full view, the particles continue around the circle ad infinitum until the system boots up all the way. i just didn't want to make this .gif file too big just to show that. =P

it animates just a tad slower on my phone than i would like it to at first, but speeds up after a matter of seconds. i need to learn a little more about creating animations and formatting them to preserve as much quality as i can while taking filesizes down a bit. in any case, hope you like it!
Just tried this... Very cool, my favorite so far

i also wanted to add: if anybody knows precisely why it starts out so slow on the phone, please by all means let me know and if possible, give me suggestions on how to fix that.

definitely not.. do NOT try to flash this like an update.zip.
check the OP.
Code:
adb remount
adb push /path/to/bootanimation.zip /system/media
Also, with root explorer, just drop the zip into system/media and reboot.

If you have adb working try taking a screen capture from the ddms.bat file in the SDK tools folder!
you can install droid explorer and take screenshots from your pc. plus do alot of other things.
it will even install the sdk for you.

It's a combination of two really awesome apps I discovered. One is called Desktop Visualiser, and the other is called SiMi Folders. Both are really impressive. Having all of the tiles (which are actually widgets) does use a lot of ram, but this phone easily handles it.
