I have heard people talking about the Iphone like rom for the tilt.. I would like to know where that rom is and how stable it is thanks.
okay....
First of all your probably going to get flamed by others for asking such a ridicules question.
Second, just from your username I can verify you really don't do much thinking before acting, so i suggest from now on you think a little bit and then act. I really don't see how you could even think about receiving any respect with that type of name.
Third to answer there is no iphone like rom. There are different programs with themes that give you an iphone look, but personally I think it would be retarded to spend over 500 dollars on a phone to make it look like a 400 dollar phone.
what does my name have to do with my question? And it's just a screen name and a screen name is just an expression has nothing to do with the person. Also there is no stupid question I was just wondering what people are doing to get the slide to unlock features as well as the swipe of the finger to scroll through screens that's all. But thanks for going on a tantrum about my name and calling me stupid based on a screen name. If anyone would like to point me in the direction of the features I would greatly appreciate it

he has a point because your name could be construed as quite offensive to some. in any case, search "slide unlock" on these forums and you will get what you are looking for. i help you because that's what this site is for, even though i'm guessing you are a 15-19yr old white male who listens to Lil' Wayne and thinks it's now OK to use that word because he can identify with it...nevermind the countless years of hatred and racism associated with it...it just sounds "cool." if you do not fit this profile, i apologize but TOO many kids these days have embraced that word thinking it's OK now...it boggles my mind. good luck on your search.
Check out Pointui. It's not a rom per se, just an application you run. It borrows iPhone-like navigation and ui smoothness, but doesn't make it "look" like an iPhone.
I'm black and 20 and do listen to LiL' Wayne but my favorite rapper is white and his name is eminem, but like I said I'm here for my phone not to be categorized generalized or disected thanks though for your help with the slide to unlock
search s2u2 you will find what you want.... its an application but not a rom

lol. i am sorry eminem....i think you are the first "black male" to ever say this. Eminem is just as much of a rapper as Ozzy Osborne...sorry just my 2cents. good luck with you wild goose chase, but like said before why spend $500 to make your phone act like a cheaper one...sorry but I dont understand the younger generations...
Don't care much for your username, but I like how you keep your cool and don't get dragged into the back and forth name calling that these threads can sometimes degenerate into.
I think most if not all in this forum would agree the Kaiser is a better phone than the iPhone in terms of features and functionality. However, I do like the smoothness of the iphone's interface and wish the Kaiser's screen could be as smooth and responsive. There is no iphone ROM, nor should there be, but I have incorporated a few "iPhone like" applications into my Tilt which I think improve it and almost give you the best of both worlds:
1) S2U2
- an iPhone like screensaver/keylock with "slide 2 unlock". Very similar to iphone's and much better than WM's keylock.
2) PocketCM
- a PIM application for contacts and SMS with similar functionality and smoothness to the iphone's contacts application. This application has greatly increased
the speed with which I can find contacts without the use of a stylus.
3) S2V (Slide2View)
- a picture viewer similiar to the iphone's. Is integrated with S2U2 to allow you to set photos as the screensaver for S2U2.
Enjoy!
As far as a "rom" that makes your phone look like an iphone, that not going to happen.
Now to make it look like an iphone, as the previous poster stated use those apps (s2u2, pocketcm, s2v), thats a good start.
Now for the actual interface, your best bet is to check out the forums for 2 applications called: Wisbar Advanced Desktop and Wisebar Advance 3. These 2 apps let you customize your interface too look like an iphone or however else you want it to look. Keep in mind that these 2 apps are not free, but they are really cheap to buy. The link for them is http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/. Like I said check out their forums because people have already made themes doing what you want.
Good Luck.
WOW!!!! This could get nasty really quick.

it was NORMAL forum about PPC/SM modding, now this place is actually one big mess.
sweet lord, what is happening here now..
instead adding subforum about EVERY moddable(uh..) WM device now we have iphonemoronism everywhere...
can anyone give me link to ppc modding site ONLY?
I agree screw the Iphone, it's not as great as everyone has been lead to think it is. So yeah it looks flashy when you go through it's menu's woopie slap pointui on a PPC and you've got your flashy. Screw the Iphone and macs in general.
Was about to say that I have no interest in anything that starts with a lower-case 'i'. then I realise I use i-Mate. D'oh

I quite like it: bit limited connectivity-wise, poor camera and I prefer drag 'n' drop to Itunes BUT to use the Iphone is a breath of fresh air and has at the very least brought about a change in the way everyone - Symbian, Windows Mobile and so-on is to approach the GUIs of their hansets.
Apple didn't invent the touchscreen but they've brought about a revival of it and you've only got to play on an LG Viewty and an Iphone for 30 minutes each from a cold introduction to realise just how much thought and effort has been put into the Iphone's operation, and how much of a dog everything seems in comparison.
I'm not an Apple fanboy, I don't own one, nor do I own or know how to use a Mac. What I do know is that over the next year or so there are to be some exciting advancements in the world of the touchscreen and I thank Apple for getting Microsoft and Symbian off their arses and thinking about how to make their operating systems NICE to use.
Function is nothing without enjoyment
so imagine enjoyment WITHOUT function.
It was posted in the General discussion area so i cant see how its managed to wind you up so much. Its simply a thread in an online forum not like someones slashed your car tyres. Im no apple fanboy, i do own a Mac (only cos windows is so crap) but have a HTC Touch.
Maybe start a petition to ban iPhone talk here if your so against it?
All of this negativity, come on guys, its just a phone. Its not like the second coming.
However, what gets me with all this negativity is that the modding scene for WM that gives a lot of iPhone style functionality - iFonz, ThumbCal, PocketCM, etc.
Whilst I do like (some) of the functionality of WM, I cannot believe that MS has got to v6 of WM and still managed to have a product with arguably one of the worst user interface experiences that I've ever, er, experienced.
The good thing about iPhone and Mac is the easy of "Getting into a computer for the first time". What I mean is if you are totally computer illiterate (or a computer virgin) it is much easier to understand and get a hang of it than Microsofts OSs. However, it is pretty darn hard to "downgrade" to a Mac once you worked on XP or Vista --- where the f**k is the right mouse button anyways...
I love the User Experience factor on the iPhone, but other than that I can't use it for anything other than a really expensive mp3 player with a phone function.
I would say if your grandma fanny wants to learn computer and how to get on the internet a Mac is perfect for her.
Come on now guys... I can understand iPhone hatred, as this is a WM device (emphasis on WM) forum, but hating Macs? There ARE PPC-using Mac people, you know... myself included... me personally, I have my trusty TyTN II and an iPhone... one for work, one for play. Each have their pros and cons. And ultimately... TO EACH HIS OWN!!!
I love the Iphone vs. all other phones arguments. It's so amusing to see both sides get so worked up. It's like watching a American Football fan arguing with a Football fan from anywhere else in the world (soccer). Yes there are similarities but they are two different sports, therefore the majority of arguments are merely logical fallacies.
My friend put it best, "Apple makes products now for people that want to be told what to do". The Iphone is an amazing piece of eye candy. Competition breeds excellence so I say the people at Apple should give it everything they got. HTC should then try to outdo Iphone etc..etc..this will then give us better and better phones.
@burgertime, what does your friend mean, told what to do? You mean because of our zealot-like loyalty (sorry here, don't mean to sound too condescending or anything, but you have to admit alot of mac fans are simply that - zealots (I'm not one, personally, and though I like Macs, I hate those zealot-like fans). btw, it's outDO, not outDUE

Are you happy now grammar nazi??? Ha ha just joking. Anyways, I think what he was getting at was the problem many WM users had with the Iphone. The fact that you had to "jail break" it just to put anything outside of what Apple tells you is the best to have on the phone. Same thing with the Ipod. Apple has decided that it has the best products so why change a good thing? Where as Windows has been forced to go along with the flo of programs developed outside of their scope. Apple I think will be forced to be open on a programming level.
Just as an example I would much rather own a Creative Zen then an Iphone. Yes the Iphone looks better, but I want to be able to put a WMV file or a Ogg or anyother codec and not have to run through Itunes to do it. Thus why I say Apple says, "you have to use Itunes because it's the best". A lot of people like the simplicity of this and thus carry around their Iphones like a cross.
Anyways just my two cents. I think the Iphone looks wonderful but I prefer being able to have hundreds of programs that exploit the hell out of my phone.

As long as we're correcting, you never closed your first parentheses. I'll get it for you. ) There you go.
Oops... my bad. I can see why you're the sarcasm merchant.
About Jailbreaking, that's gonna end on June 9th, when Apple is (sorry, feeding off my own Mac/iPhone/Apple rumor sources here), but Gizmodo has a source that claims that iPhone 2, and also iPhone 2.0 (that's firmware update/ROM update to WM) that will introduce the iPhone App Store (including free titles). Hence, it'll be more of an open system, not to mention it'll support (in addition to the original Y!Mail) GMail, Exchange, AOL, .mac mail to be pushed.
I think the reason so many people strongly dislike the iPhone (or anything else 'Apple') is their misleading manipulative advertising. They don't just say "we're great" they say "we're great, and everyone else sucks". This is offputting as is the super saturation advertising.
They act like they invented the touchscreen (give me a break).
Instead of saying "the iPhone doesn't work with a stylus, Jobs says "stylus's SUCK" in an attempt to properly indoctrinate the fanboys. It's nice to use your finger, but Styluses have their place too.
Apple fanboys sit on their asses in front of the TV and wait for Jobs to tell them what they want instead of getting on the net and finding out what's really available out there.
Jobs just makes me sick. They say he has 'Vision', I say he has 'Tunnel Vision'. He doesn't care what the people want, it's what HE wants. Like the sealed battery, Pocket PCs quit using sealed batterys 5 years or so ago because THAT'S WHAT THE PEOPLE WANTED! Same with Dpads, buttons and keyboards.
I have an iPhone that I got cheap because it won't read a simcard. This is a common problem with the iphone. Have you ever heard of a phone that won't detect a simcard?
Finally, Itunes absolutely sucks (as does quicktime and any other piece of apple software you may have the misfortune of installing on your PC). Unfortunately, the free itunes alternatives available on the net do not work with the iPhone
And finally, you don't own what you buy from apple, THEY do. At least that's the impression I get by their attempts to prevent you from modding or actually doing what you want with what you purchased. (another example of Jobs' meglomaniacal tunnel vision. He somehow knows better than you what you want.)
Good pic, but that is not the new iphone - 1st that pic is quite old now and 2nd that pic is meant to be the 1st iphone in a black case - but don't get me wrong that design is not half bad for the iphone.
However this is a Windows Mobile site - and however good the iphone may be it is not in this section
Hey guys;
Not sure if this is the forum to submit ideas, but I wasn't sure where to go exactly. I've never wanted an android app developed until now.
So I'm looking into getting this controller for my sprinklers so I can control them from the web or my phone. I figured if I was on vacation for example and forgot to set my sprinklers from the controller in my garage, I could do it over my phone or any web browser if I buy this controller from this site.
http://www.quicksmart.com/qs_etherrain.html
On that page they say "Open API for Software Developers" so I'm wondering if someone is willing to take on developing an app for this? Do you see a good market for something like this? I will gladly donate!
Thanks in advance for any comments, etc
Hehe, that's an unusual request. However, I imagine that there isn't much of a market for this kind of app. Unless there's some kind of standard interface for internet-enabled sprinklers (even the concept makes me laugh ), the app would have to specifically support each brand. That would mean that the number of people interested in each app would be very low, or the dev would have to spend a lot of time working through all the brands to ensure compatibility.
I didn't read through their site in detail, but I take it that there's no configuration webpage that you could access? That would clearly be the easiest and cheapest (free!) solution. If someone had to write the app for you, it would probably end up costing quite a bit if they charged even just minimum wage for their time. That said, if the app is so important to you that you're willing to pay ~$100 for it, I'd look more closely at what writing this would really require. (You can see my previous work in the Android Market - Spectrum Puzzles.)
Well I dont think theres many brands... Rainbird is the most common out there. I was debating on this unit too:
http://www.irrigationcaddy.com/
I like it better, and I wonder if someone could just make an app that is based off this units browser interface. Prob not tho. It's a funny request cuz its not techy at all, but kinda amazing if u think about it to control ur sprinklers from ur phone. To me, yes its worth 100 or more
lol that could be jokes , send someone to get something in your garden get out your phone open the app and get them wet!!! lool
Lawn sprinkler app
I'd just like an app to turn and off a valve connected to my outdoor hose bib / faucet. I just planted some grass and need to water it 2 or 3 times per day. If I had a controllable valve I could set the times and durations from anywhere with my phone. Seems like something many people would pay for???
Necro thread!!
It's in the wrong section anyway - should be in Android General.
Thread moved.
ok, first off im not a developer. Most i can do is some front end web development. im a designer, so most of the time i just expect things to work. that being said, i also understand and appreciate all the hard work that you developers do, this is in no way me complaining about developers. I basically just want to understand a bit more. Why are we able to make Playstation emulators? which to me seems like it would be 10x more complicated than, say... an ipod classic emulator which is no where to be found. to me it seems like you'd be able to create some sort of app that was a framework where the ipod classic OS could run on. now, like i said, i am no developer, and i realize there probably is a completely legitimate reason, i just want to understand that reason. if there isn't, and its just a matter of someone taking the time to do it, this is my plea for that to happen.
now, you may ask "why do you want that? there are perfectly good mp3 player apps on the market if you're not pleased with the stock"
my response is: yes, i know, and if all i wanted was an mp3 player then there really wouldn't be any need for an ipod classic emulator. unfortunately the ipod has a lot more features than just an simple mp3 player. the organization system being a major point, as well as the fact that it is by far the BEST way to listen to audiobooks. the ability to skip through chapters and have chapter titles and remembered playback seem like simple things to me... but i do realize they are the result of lots of hard work. unfortunately no current player on the market can do all of this in one... let alone just the audiobook functions.
so this is why i want an ipod classic emulator, and want to know why there isn't one yet.

To put it onto layman's terms
Its apples copyrighted code so it would be illegal
So even if we wanted to, apple would Sue us and remove it from xda
The PlayStation systems run on a form of Linux, and so do our devices so that also plays a role since it makes porting that much easyer

aah, so Sony doesn't care about being emulated where as apple (due to the fact that it is a product that directly relates) does. that makes sense. but then if its just legal issues... wouldn't it still be around somewhere? legal stuff hasn't stopped people in the past (ie: beautiful widgets) and there are a ton of iphone skins you'd think would be copyrighted.
Emulators work because they don't distribute the copyrighted proprietary content with the emulator. That's why you have to go find a bios file on your own.

I tried EVA. And for about 36 hours she was my new retarded best friend. But then her constant ” I hear what you are saying but do not know how to interpret it” drove me nuts.
I finally uninstalled it. One key thing is to get the SVOX TTS voice add on because android's native Pico voice is about as attractive as the computer's voice from the old star trek episodes. Then you can make the woman's voice sound low and throaty, like a sultry marilyn monroe, or higher pitched and slow, like a preteen ingenue...whatever your fetish.
I told EVA to call me ”master”, but it felt too much like I was in a bad I Dream of Jeannie episode.
About the only thing she every did successfully for me was launch apps. But that is hardly worth it.
She just couldn't seen to understand much, yet I know it is google's voice recognition software...and it works great for dictating texts... So I don't know why EVA didn't work better. She had some good reviews.
Now I am just using the free app ” Voice Actions” by pannous, and it works great. I can say ”send a text to bill smith that I will be
10 minutes late” and its done. No backtalk.
But maybe I have been lucky so far.
I do hope they improve this technology quickly though, it is pretty cool to have someone announce your calls and call you by your first name.

Makes me wonder ...
Do you release something half ass
OR
do you perfect the programming.
wait for supporting hardware
field test it
then market it like you invented it.
DAM.
Imagine if the car industry wasnt regulated ... China puttin out half assed Heads up displays and German engineers would look like they jus perfected a feature instead of introduce it (Heads Up Display).
I think the debate between putting out half-assed (or as google calls it, beta) products, versus perfecting something first (or getting it better then average) before releasing it as a product has always been a core philosophy difference between apple and google.
The thing is, the benefit of goggle's strategy should be that all of the features the users' want..whether new, or improvements to existing features, should be able to be made by google so that by the time the ”perfected”.apple version is released, the google version should be of greater utility. It may not be as sleek or as shiny, but with input from a lot of actual users earlier in development, google's strategy is better.
I think the problem this time is that google had released some pretty good voice recognition software, and it had a default TTS, nobody really seemed to be clamoring for this type of thing.
So like the iPad almost, Apple envisions this concept and releases it, and now everybody wants it.
But if everybody wants it, why then during the last 12 to 18 months has no one been saying 'hey google, we really want to be able to have a voice operating feature integrated deeper into the next android version'.
I think its just that apple thought that this feature could be a ”must have” and they ran with it and developed it to this level.
Hopefully google will now realize it needs to catch-up in this area. Because to get as good as SIRI, you can't create it in an app. It needs to start with the OS.

This is called successful marketing. You get something that nobody wanted before and nobody really needs, and make people think they want it ASAP. Just like the iPad in tablet area, for which I'm still trying to think of a good, worthy use case.
Apple learned to do it very well, including preparing the crowd to swallow any crap they feed them, no matter how useless. Props to them.
Actually, unlike tablets, there is a good use case for voice commands - operate the phone while driving. I do recall missing that feature (that also works properly).. once or twice a year.

VERY VALID points. Im no Jim Cramer (financial analyst) but i think it boils down to ... Where is the focus and investor dollars being distributed.
Google has this translate app that is so good. although not every language is supported ... its nice to know i can have a convo in real time with my mexican neighbors LOL.

I think Apple and Google love to do things opposite of each other. One markets with noise and distributes exclusively. The other goes by word of mouth and makes products accessible to anyone.
I look forward to ICS.
I was playing around with 'Voice Actions', testing the limits of its ability to provide me information and asking trick questions like 'please make me dinner', to which she (jeannie) replied ' Do I look like a microwave oven?'
The most clever response I have received is when I requested of her 'sing me a song'. To this she began to recite 'A Bicycle Built For Two' a la HAL. If only I could get her to slowly wind down and say 'my mind is going. I can feel it.' That would have made my night.
