Hi,
I have an HTC Blackstone with stock rom.
I can't set custom ringtones anymore.
I use HTC MP3 "chopper" software ("découpeur MP3" in French). When my personnal ringtone is created I try to set it as default but I get a message "Impossible to record the file. Please check if the storage space is sufficient and try again".
Tried it another way with the explorer. Moved this file and another one (dowloaded on HTC site) to windows / ringtones. When I go to settings and try to select this sound manually it still doesn't work. The sound is not played and you can't select this custom ringtone. So now I can only use stock ringtones.
I have searched for answers on this site but found nothing that could solve my problem.
Please Help.

hey..i looked at the posting but unfortunately my device is wm5 so known of those methods work ..lol
hello, i have unlocked extRom, but I cant use it for nothing. when i try to install something on it, after install files just disappeared. same thing with mp3 etc...
second problem - my device doesnt recognize service provider name, only number - 28403. please help me to patch registry for op name: Vivatel
10x in advance
please help !
1.u have only made the extended rom unhidden, not unlocked. Use the unlock tool provided on this forum(search )
2.the fix to change the provider is not permenant. Even if you change the text in registry, it ll roll-back to old name after soft-reset.
I can use the windows media player all the time befor I rom one new rom which intergrated rm player in the windows media player, then ,I could use the wm player to play rmvb medias, one day, I found that i couldn't use the wm player to play any thing even mp3, but i can use sofeware to solve this problem like using core player. I have romed it for many time by different roms, but that does not work.
I want to know what's wrong with my phone? Is that hardware problem? Does anybody have the same problem like me? How can I solve this problem?

So... you've flashed a custom rom, and now have some problems?
First, soft reset - test
Uninstall related software - test
re-install related software - test
hard reset - test
flash different rom - test
Sounds like a software problem to me, but if you still have problems with using WMP on a basic stock rom, then maybe you have something more serious.
Oh - and remember to check the files you are using for test arent corrupt!

Thanks a lot.
There is another question.how can I uninstall related software? I can't find the WMP.......
I tried the last two methods. that does not work. Maybe uninstall related software and re-install related software will be ok. But I can't find the .cab file.
If you have flashed a different (lite, or oem) rom, and not installed anything else, then you dont need to worry about removing any software - the flash will have removed it.
When you say you cant find wmp, you mean you cant find how to uninstall\re-install it? or you cant find the program on your phone?
afaik, you cant remove wmp (except maybe when cooking a rom). But if you have a fresh setup, and open an mp3 from file explorer - what happens?
Does media player load? load & crash? load & play, but with no sound? give an error message?

yeah, I can't find how to uninstall\re-install the WMP. I know where it is. It is in the "windows" document. I can use WMP to play the "ring sound" of the system.
I fresh the rom,and if I open the WMP, the system deads. I have to restart it.If I open an mp3 from file explorer, it just load, and give an error message:The system can not find the file specified.
I thought that was caused by I put the mp3 files in a Chinese name dicument, so I moved the files to the "My document" of the storage card, that does not work either. I can't even play the wma files.
Every rom has the same result. I don't know what's the problem with my phone.
I'm afraid i have no idea what the problem is. really sorry i cant help

I can play files on my phone, but not on the storage card!
I format the storage card, everythig is ok!
hope this could help someone else.
Hi in post [Fixes][30Jan] ICS Problem Fixes / Mods
[28Jan]Ringtones dont stick on reboot
If your having problems with ringtones sticking on reboot, seems to be especially a problem for custom ringtones, create a new soundset with the ringtone in and that will sort it for ya thanks to malybru for the fix.
I want to know how to create a new soundset to fix ringtones in ICS on reboot with ARHD 6.2.1
Thanks

It's alright big thanks, it was so simple in fact.

I presume that this is for Sense ROM as my senseless ROM doesnt have this option in settings.

Hi,
You can also stick the desired ringtone straight into:
system/media/audio/ringtone
Thanks for the replies.
Having copied the ringtone to the system folder I am still getting the default tone after a reboot
I'm facing same issue.
Created custom sound set with my ringtone included, but still after reboot, the default ringtone is selected. See my signature for more info.
make sure its the correct folder there is one that is incorrect. i had the same issue and found i placed them in the incorrect one
Hi everybody, i created a Sound Set but after rebooting or removing my SD Card it keep the main ringtone :/.
So it seems that everyone is only asking the same question with no real answer except for creating your own sound set... and even then people report that it's not working right. And what "correct/incorrect" folder are you talking about?
Found a fix
While trying to find a fix for a ringtones not staying after reboot, I found some info on another problem (custom ringtones disappearing when connected to USB as a hard drive), and the suggested fix worked for our problem!
I got it fixed by copying all the ringtones from sdcard/ringtones and sdcard/media/audio/ringtones into system/media/audio/ringtones (root access required), and changed the permission with the use of ES File Explorer or alike...
Hi, i have a p500 running on cm7...
couples of day ago my ringtone (that i was using for years) change to some song that was on my sd card and another*one start if i dont answer.
whatever i try i'm unable to change it back like it was before, even if i put one from the system...
Help please
PS: sorry for my english; it's not my native language
I got that bugs too when I use cm7. not only ringtones, any mp3s, videos and images cannot detected.
and I solved this by flash it to cm9 for ICS or you can try to flash to cm10 too for JB
