Hi everybody
Sorry for my bad English I'm Belgian and I have a big problem with my phone
I bought my phone on ebay, it's a HTC Magic 32a TimMobile.
I installed GyD rom and it worked perfect. But yesterday, I look that the new version of this rom is available for RADIO 3.22 and RADIO 6.35.
Firstly, I install version for 3.22 (like mine) but the phone begin very slow. Then I wanted install new radio and spl from this forum.
I installed SPL 1.33.2010 on first and reboot my phone : no problem.
After I downloaded and installed the 1.76.2007 SPL HBOOT image, 6.35.10.18 Radio Image and Amon_RA Hero Recovery.
But with that, when I went in fastboot, my phone restarted after 5 seconds.
I see that 6.35.10.18 Radio is for CA then I downloaded 6.35.08.29 radio on my sd card. But when I installed this and that my phone reboot, I have a pics of installation with a phone and a arrow and after a few seconds screen begin dark and nothing else...
I can't access in fastboot, adb, nothing
Is there a issue or my phone is definitely brick ?
Thank you very much.
Did you flash Hero Recovery to your phone prior to using fastboot ?
Power off your phone
Press HOME + POWER simultaniously .......are you back in Recovery now ?

Same thing happened to me. I have the Canadian phone but ended up with that same graphic that fades to nothing in a couple of seconds. I never did get mine back but here's what I know:
The phone is in some kind of factory load mode and it is possible that it is looking for a specific file from the SD. I found that out by changing the SD format and seeing a linux style lost.dir directory appear on the card after a boot (home + back + tap power). It is trying to do something but gives you no control over what it wants. You should see it fade to a bluish screen that then fades to a whitish screen. I've tried all sorts of files named to update.zip but never found the right one.
Unless you can find the file it is looking for you are bricked. That experience scares me from flashing any more radio versions.

I had the same problem when I tried to update my SPL.
At least, the symptoms are the same.
Luckily, I could enter the recovery, and as I had left the previous rom on the sdcard, I could restore it.

Hmm... If placing some ROM file on a SD card is all that needed to flash it in your case, why don't you buy SD card reader for PC (they cost like $5) of find a friend/relative with a notebook computer?
I already try to put ROM file into my SD but it didn't work
damn every other thread I see people have bricked their phones...
did you flash update-hboot-1.33.2010-signed.zip? I flashed it when I saw one of cursordroid's post, and then now it is dead and stuck on splash screen. I can't access fastboot via back+power or vol down+power, I can't access recovery mode either. It's definitely a brick.

I am unable to get into boot loader mode.
I've pressed camera + power and reset as usual but it won't go into bootloader it just boots the phone up.
I managed to get into bootloader mode using a KaiserCustomRRU and then it picked up the new ROM from the SDCard but when i press power to flash the rom nothing happens.
I can still boot into windows mobile and the power button works when I press it there.
I only got this kaiser a day ago is it possible this is a new version or something?
Please help!

Are you fully pressing the Camera button, it has two levels, it must be presses in fully and help whilst you restart your phone with the stylus (or turn on if the phone is off).
Off Topic:
This makes a nice change, helping someone into bootloader, rather than someone stuck in it.
Dave
Yup I'm pressing it down super hard, I've had the kaiser since it came out so I know I'm doing it as usual. For some reason it isn't working this time.
I had lots of trouble flashing HardSPL aswell! Now this problem with entering boot loader. This is getting irritating .

Does the Camera button work normally? I.e. Launches the camera in Windows.
What problems are you having with HardSPL?
Dave
Yup camera button does work normally.
I had to reset the device loads of times before customRUU noticed that the phone was plugged in.
At the moment I'm stuck in RUUNBH recovery mode in HardSPL. It detects that I have put a memory card with a KAISIMG.nbh into the phone, it says that it will flash radio, rom, splash and says press power to continue but when I press power nothing happens. Now no matter what I do I can't get out of HardSpl and I can't even flash a rom anymore

Yup also I'm having weird problems which I think are associated with this particular problem.
When I boot up the rom lots of keys just randomly get pressed. e.g. if I have a pin set loads of characters will be put into the input box and the only way i can stop it is by pressing a hardware button.
I'm trying to flash a dutty rom which I know doesn't really have those kinda problems to see if its just the rom, although other people aren't reporting the same problem with the rom though :/

I doubt they gave you that newer Model what doesn't work.
I think it is the SPL that figures out wether or noot to boot the OS or run the Bootloader... when loading the OS the SPL checks for what keys are pressed and goes into the SPL or OS.
If Hard SPL and the OEM SPL fail to load the bootloader, there must be something wrong with the device IMO.

I have the same problem with key press, it happened after a recent flash to a new rom.
I have found out what keys it is in my case. It is the "button 6" (voice recorder) and "edfc".The last are just endlessly pressed. Anybody knows how to fix this? My temporary fix was to remap button 6 to "rotate screen" but it is really anoying. I would like to just disable button 6, until I can return it, if there is no fix.
The problem has persisted over 3 roms now (PV rom (8 oct by medkid) - where it all started, Garmin 4.3 and now hyperdragon III 6 oct)
any help will be greatly welcomed!
I started this thread as a constructive and positive place for those of us that have recently lost our G1's or ADP's. I am going to document all my settings, Radio version, Firmware, Build info, etc here and hopefully reverse engineer this issue until I have an answer. If anyone has any hardware engineering information on this device it would be greatly appreciated. I'm even willing to host a private forum from my site to work on this.
Thanks everyone for your continued hard work and Haykuro, you're still the man!

You convert a SD card into a Goldcard and the phone will read it and allow the phone to flash ANY NBH file, regardless of CID, etc etc.

This has happened to me many times when I didn't wipe (the PHONE ). Take the battery out, place back in and hold Home + Power to get into menu. Type alt + w to wipe, afterwards, alt + s to apply update.zip from sdcard, then Home+Back to restart. The first time loading, it can take up to ten minutes to get past the Android screen (mine took 7-10 minutes), so be patient.
Post back with any results.

that wont work i just read the write up. In order for the goldcard to work, the g1 has to go into fastboot, which none of our devices can go into fastboot nor recovery. I even formatted a sdcard to start the process but when i got to the fastboot i was so disappointed.
One detail, when i flashed the new spl I was doing something else and when i check my phone it back to recovery utility windows itself ,it was in 15 20 minute, after that i reinstalle jf1.5 and all worked ok
what this means. if you are flashing your phone and before these process finishes your take out you battery, you can bricking you phone. take patience and wait.
Good luck

So what harm would it do to try? From what I remember the goldcard on herald was supposed to get us into the bootloader even when we couldn't normally.
Let me be perfectly clear, those of us with the issue of a bricked device from loading the SPL from Haykuro are experiencing an actual case of being bricked.
Read carefully.
The phone WILL NOT turn on!!!!
We are looking for a solution that runs as far back as actually burning the SPL image directly to the phone's memory. I am even willing to try a hardware to hardware method to accomplish this.
I know the phone is still somewhat responsive because my laptop detects the USB connection to the phone but it will not recognize the device.. obviously because the communication is broken since the phone is dead. The power LED will turn on but only after I remove the battery first. Once I press the POWER key the LED turns off and will not light again until I remove and replace the battery.
Solutions that we are trying:
GoldCard method.
Looks like a couple of us have tried this but since fastboot can't see the device then we can't use this method unless someone knows something super seceret.
Crashing the device by allowing the battery to fully discharge. Unlikely but trying anyway.
Any other ideas?????
Thanks everyone for helping thus far!

The same happens on Heralds when the imgfs is messed up. To fix it, we force it to go into the bootloader mode and it does turn on. I wonder if it's something similar.
I meantioned in the big main topic an idea though I dont think anyone saw it.
In the past for other phones I was able to make recoveries using the computer while it was in the boot loop.
Anyone with the brick, try to see what happens when you do this:
adb remount
After the "T-Mobile G1" screen shows up. See if it says mount sucessful. I would try though it does not stay on the screen too long for me, not only that it might work for me just because it continues fine so its inconclusive.
If you get lucky and it says remount successful, you could try this:
adb shell recovery
I am not sure of the commands to follow from there, but it might allow you to flash a different update.zip file from the command line. If you get lucky like that, look up the commands and see how that might go. There has to be a way to communicate to the hardware when that screen comes up. Its good that that screen comes up, because it means its not 'fried' so to speak, it just has a misconfigured loader which doesnt have the correct set of instructions (good point about the different types of boards, thats most likely the issue) for THAT board. I would go back to the one that worked previously.
I wanted to go to the official ION with my Magic 32A, so first I flashed the update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2010-signed.zip and that seemed to go fine, then restart into fastboot and applied the signed-google_ion-ota-14721.zip from the htc developer site and thats when the s**t started.
When restarting I get the "htc magic" slash screen and thats it. I cannot get into the fastboot console (home/power or back/power) in fact nothing seems to do anything.
Before I burst into tears, is there a solution to my problem?
This was a HTC badged unlocked phone that I have flashed roms before, but this attempt has gone horribly wrong....
Can you get it into bootloader?
VOLUME DOWN+ POWER ?
no, it buzzes once, shows the "htc magic" splash then nothing :-(
does the same thing with any of the key combinations I try...

edit : that is only system image and only for ion
does adb detect it?
you can try one thing
make a gold card
paste some ones backup (make sure its for 32A)
boot.img
system.img
recovery.img , etc
and then
try loading boot loader
i.e vdown + power
and check if ruu picks ur phone or not
mostly it wont
Thanks for the reply, I have a nandroid backup with the *.img files would they do for a gold card?
Also, I know this is n00b, but I an a bit confused with the gold card thing. Is there a howto for using via ubuntu?
Thanks
I have read the gold card creation, and it talks about getting the CID when the phone is on. Obvoiusly I cant do that
Is there a way to get this CID even though I cannot start my phone?
Did you check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=571457&highlight=unbrick ?
Been there, done that. Send it into HTC. They fixed mine for $20.00. Had to use my iPhone and actual ion for 10 days.
Hi there,
Not sure if this is the right place to post - if it isn't, I'm sorry. Mods can move it to where it should be.
Anyway, as I was attempting to upgrade my radio and SPL, I was able to flash my SPL and Amon Ra's hero recovery. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to flash the radio. Using "fastboot usb", it says sending is fine but writing makes the screen fade out and fade in with gray. I wasn't satisfied so I tried updating through the recovery screen through update.zip.
Now, everytime I load up, an image with a box and an arrow pointing out and towards the phone shows - after that it fades out and sometimes fades to gray or fades to black etc. I haven't had any luck when I try taking the SIM out nor plugging in the USB. adb can't detect it at all. Any ideas?
You said almost everything except what phone it was. 32A could be magic 32A,or a mt3g le/1.2
Also on the box screen try holding home + power again.

try going into HBOOT by pressing vol down + power.... if you can go there...than you still have a chance and just reflash the recovery using fastboot...
That didn't work either. I've tried so far:
Back + Power
Menu + Power
Home + Power
Camera + Power
Call + Power
Vol Down + Power
Vol Up + Power
Trackball + Power
They all give me the same result with the exception of Trackball + Power which gives me a blue LED and a blank screen.
that's a brick unless you find the right file that it is looking for.
Suggest putting the upgrade radio file on the sd card and try booting again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=605239 . follow the upgrade radio version section.
You might not have flashed the radio and that is what it is looking for.
edit-> when you drop the new radio on the sd and boot don't get upset when you see that graphic again, that is what you'll see while the phone tries to load it. give it a minute before panicking.

I'll try that. Thanks! I'll post my radio settings before.. and my radio settings that I was trying to flash to when I get home.

Normally when you have to upgrade the radio, the typical method is to get into Fastboot then fastboot flash radio radioimage.img
If you can't do that, then usually you have to change it via a new SPL, such as a sappimg.zip or .img in the root of the SD card (as I don't think hboot automatically catches an update.zip which I would associate with a file being used in the recovery console, not hboot/fastboot)
It seemed like the SPL and the recovery img that I flashed earlier on worked.
And then I booted into recovery mode, renamed my radio update to update.zip and used the recovery mode to update the radio. I'm guessing that's where I went wrong?
I tried using flashboot radio radio.img and it was sent fine but the writing failed. The same error image as I am having now pops up but I could still have gotten into fastboot mode. It then prompted me to use the method above which is probably not what I wanted and ended up not being able to get into fastboot mode.
Have you tried a "fastboot erase radio" command before trying to reflash the radio? I think that's maybe one of the things I had to do when I hosed my 1.2. Shoot... There was someone else asking about a bricked 1.2, and I forgot I had used "fastboot erase"...

I didn't do that. Maybe that's why. But now I can't get it recognized on my PC.
"fastboot devices" doesn't find anything? Is it booting to fastboot/hboot?

Nope. It can't be detected. Everything I do to turn it on, it goes straight to the image with box and arrow pointing outwards and fades out.
I doubt that I can help but that image is telling you that the phone is looking for a specific file like it does at the factory. No telling exactly what file though. Normally that's a brick sorry to say.
But on the off chance that it is looking for the radio image I'm using try this, drop this file on the SD card and see if it helps. Let it run for a few minutes:

Hello all, im fairly new to 'rooting' world and wish my first post wasn't on this, however, i'm not too sure where else to look for help! I believe my phone may be lost, but thought I'd ask before giving up completely. I was running ARHD 3.6.7 rom on my HTC Sensation. rooted, everything working like a charm, til last nite... I d/l and flash the ARHD 3.6.7 Hard Version Brightness Tweak from this post... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350580. However, instead of going into recovery, I used rom manager ( I've read at times not to use this for certain things, so guessing this is one of em..noob mistake that may cost me my phone). While in rom manager, the following 2 options were checked, which I think is where I went wrong, 1) wipe data and cache 2) wipe dalvik cache. When my phone rebooted, the old 'android' boot image was showing instead of the 'Beats Audio' from the ARHD Rom. This is where I am at. The phone seems to be stuck at reloading this image over and over. I can not boot into recovery by holding the down volume and power. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sholdn't have wiped anything when installing a mod, you need to open your recovery and reinstall ARHD ..if you don't have the .zip on your sdcard then just take it out of the phone and put it into the computer and copy over a .zip
you need to wipe everything before installing the ROM so user the super wipe

Ok, not bricked is great! However, I do have another question. I have a pretty good uderstanding of what to do once in recovery, my question is ' how do I get there?' When I hold the down volume and power buttons, I still boot to the android screen which I am currently stuck on. I have the zip files I need on my sd card, just can't get to em... Is there another way to get into recovery to wipe and reinstall? Again, thx for the help, this is most definitely a learning experience

HAve you tried pulling the battery out, then turning on to recovery
I have tried pulling the battery out, pulling the sd card out, seems like no matter, still loads to android screen. While at this screen, if i hold down power, nothing, phones stays on, if i hold down vol down + power, phone reboots to same screen. Seems like getting into recovery is my real problem...
ARHD doesn't recommend the use of Rom manager if you carefuly read the flashing instructions .further than that I had a problem like that in the past with my HTC desire ,what I did was to follow the unrevoked once again and did everything from the begining eventualy I got the recovery mode and flashed my new rom.maybe be if u follow a similar procedure by reinstalling the revolutionary kit will give u the desired outcome... Maybe sounds a bit odd but it worked for me .I don't think u have anything to lose if u try .your phone isn't bricked though by any means so no worries. Good luck maye

Do you mean you're pressing volume down and power while your phone is already on ?
K, agreed, nothing to loose, gonna give that a go.. I am having detection issues. When I connect to pc, the device 'android phone' is recognized, but I can't access any files, HTC sync, fastboot for example saying no device connected, please check connection. I assume because the phone will not go past the boot screen? Anyhow, gonna try your suggestion. Thanks!

Yes, I have done both. While the phone is off, I have pressed vol down and power with no luck. I have also tried it while the phone was on (trying anything at that point). Still only going to android boot image.
Is there another way to enter recovery if vol down + power while phone is off doesnt work?
HALLELUJA..... Reboot into recovery successful! Not sure why, but after numerous attempt, I got it. Thx for all the quick replies. Wiping and reflashing now!!
Hey chase. Good job and have a look at coredroid Rom. Beautiful and fast. 2nd charge and at 20 hours at 49% battery left with moderate use.

I'm having this same issue, I have used super-wipe and tried reflashing no change. still sits at the 'beats audio' flash screen. When I first tried to root the phone I believe i flashed the wrong radio zip but the hboot is version 1.23.0000 radio version is 10.14.9035.01_M whenever i try to reflash hboot or radio zips i get errors usually (status 7). It still boots into hboot and recovery just fine, but I'm not sure whats wrong or how exactly to fix it, any help would be appreciated. If you need any more information just ask. Thanks

Did you flash an ICS rom without installing the ICS firmware first?
If this is the case, take out your sd card, copy over the ICS firmware to the root of the sd card, boot into the bootloader, and it'll walk you through updating the firmware.
it says
model id incorrect
update fail!
press <power> to reboot.
i think the radio i tried to flash was for a different phone maybe, but it was in a tutorial to root and install arhd the tutorial said you have to update the radio to use ics. any ideas?
"model id incorrect" <- you need to super CID your phone.
Do you have adb running on your computer?
my bad guys i had supercid i hadnt changed it to 11111111 did that re-wiping and flashing now thanks for the help
