Android on Touch Diamond 2 GPS - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

has anyone tried to id the hardware driver currently being used in the topaz android release? It would be awesome to get that working and have some turn by turn direction action. I am wondering if it's just pointed at the wrong com port or something else not too difficult to fix? Any information would be helpful. I am technical and I love mobile devices, I want to learn more about android so I can help make the existing ports more usable.

I second this ... PLEASE GPS!!!!

bad sentinel79, bad, go back to the topaz forums, you are not allowed to go anywhere else. lol
GPS would be absolutely great, but then so would sound, reliable wake up, better power management, etc.
The kernel developers are doing everything they can to work on each part feature by feature. But if they hit a roadblock they do not just sit around and wait, they move on and come back later (as is the case with the sound)
GPS will be done when they can get to it, but if anyone wants to jump in and lend a hand, there can never be too much help and ideas.

Possible to disable AMR-HR Codec?

I've searched and seen this discussed about a few other phones, but it doesn't look like there's been any luck with any HTC GSM phone, but I thought I would pose the question to see if anyone can figure it out.
As you may know, AT&T uses the AMR-HR (Half-Rate) codec in some areas with Edge, which can sound like crap in low service areas.
It would be really useful, and probably make a lot of people happy, if there was a way to force this phone to use the AMR-FR (Full-Rate) codec.
Most devices this is a simple bitmask, this is one of the things on my list for WinMo devices, so far in the several I have messed with I haven't figured it out.

Any updates on this?
I would be extremely happy if you figured it out and it improved my call quality. I would definitely throw some money your way!
I've identified several possibilities, but what I haven't found is how to identify the current codec in use. I need a reliable, repeatable way to do that before I can start flipping bits, my ear isn't reliable enough
You can use FieldTest
Go to the 2nd group (AMR).
Minimize that, then make a call.
Then go back into FieldTest (while still connected to the call), mine shows AMR-HR (I don't know what it shows for FR since I'm not in an area that supports it, but I'm guessing AMR-FR).
Doh, i'm a bonehead! I never switched to GSM when I checked there, so it was never reporting any values at all, being in WCDMA.. awesome, let's get this party started
Woohoo, can't wait!!!

life without touch screen

touch screen of my o2 atom is not working.
is there a good free flowing cursor available that would also let me input in key board.so that i can send sms and dial phone numbers. fake cursor, sphelper, virtua mouse are lousy and one is better of without them. they do not work on keypad or keyboard.
is there any keyboard or dialer available which will function with the dpad.
thanks in advance
life is not complete without touch. but one has to continue living and searching
thank god that the atom has so many buttons which can be mapped to various functions
still looking for a true mouse on ppc
and a way to enter data without touch.
o senior members with tons of experience and knowledge-come to my help
I havent seen one for on the run, but you can run mymobiler on your pc and control your phone from there if needed
thank you so much.you have shown me something i did not know existed.
it has been a great help and makes my differently abled phone more useful.
but i am sure that it must be very easy for any good programmer to make or
alter a dialer to respond to the dpad. if they set their mind to it.
imagine that the dpad action moves the selection box from one number to the other
while the select button selects the numbers and then you press dial.
similarly for the keyboard.
that would be in my opinion a true mouse for the ppc.
that is what i search for.
thanks to all respected senior members.
had it not been for people like you we would yet have to invent the mobile.
ahh arungk2
Ass kissing will get you everywhere, its nice to see praise for our efforts sometimes here. cheers
guys its really tough to believe that i have not been able to
find a single keyboard app that works witgh the dpad. Or a dialer for that
matter.
please guys help if you have ever seen an app like that.
Hundreds of keyboards and not even one works with the dpad
If life is that bad without a touch screen, you have basically got to renew it or get a different device......generally life deals such blows to electronics in that once one bit of hardware fails, the odds are such that something else will soon follow.
Tough i know, but thats what tends to happen with computers and going off my own experience its true. On my 3 yr old high end laptop, bluetooth module failed, then all usb ports (prevented me flashing for a while) then part of the motherbaord let go.............now it no good but makes a nice ornament on my desk!
Thanks for the advise and insght.but till i am able to buy a new device cant help
feeling this way.and got to keep searching.
search and thou shall find

[Q] Tablet WITHOUT WIFI or Bluetooth

I would like to find a tablet that does not have wireless capabilities built in. This would include 3G (or any cell service), WIFI, Bluetooth, or even Infra-Red!
I work in an area where devices with ANY wireless capability built in are not allowed. It is not enough to simply turn them off.
So, I am looking for a tablet that does not have these wireless capabilities built in.
Any suggestions are appreciated!
I am also interested in the answer to this.
I don't think there is such a device. And if there is, it's probably a very old tablet that was made before any of these technologies were created for tablets.
The market for wireless-less tablets is so small that it's very unlikely that anyone will make them. Removing WiFi and bluetooth for a handful of people is just too expensive.
close it maybe the best way.
I'm think...
Out of interest, how would they know?
Most tablets have an Airplane Mode which will disable all wireless functionality.
Or you could root it and remove the drivers..
not worth losing the job on not being up front... it would lead to questions of a lack of integrity...
Have a dev build a ROM for you . Im sure someone would be happy to help if you were to donate for their help and time.
Sent from my SCH-I800 using XDA App
I think you'll be hard pressed to find anything main-stream that doesn't include all of those.
What if approached the power-that-be and present them with the idea of a disabled tablet where all of the drivers are removed? If they agree that is a solution you can then see about getting one of the Devs to build you the ROM as jtipton79 mentioned above.
Anyone find one can you PLEASE CONTACT ME ???
I have develop EMF and can't STAND WIFI, BLUETOOTH or ANYTHING WIRELESS ((((
YES, it SUCKS to me be (((, I know, but I just can't stand it.
So, if ANYONE on here READ this and find out, please please please let me know.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!

[Q] Anyone local in s. Florida to help me?

Looking to meet up with a more knowledgeable member (I'll buy lunch/dinner) to help me root, cid, to be able to flash roms....
I am a little knowledgeable, but the chance of my bricking my phone does not weigh my options here at this point..there's seems to be too many steps for my background...
I have had the Inspire and been flashing roms left and right but to do this on the One X and type code etc. , is just not cutting it and need your assistance.
I appreciate any response!
Thanks in advance,
SurferJD
...I'm in Davie, FL.....
It's actually not that complicated. There is a One Click root tool that you use for root that does it all for you. You just plug your phone into any computer with the drivers installed and run the tool, and in a few minutes you are rooted, with no user input. For boot loader unlock, you will need to do something on your own but that just involves copying and pasting some text. You use a one click tool for that too. I'm sure if you search around on the root and boot loader threads you'll figure it out enough for you to do it on your own.
I'll do it if you fly me out to Florida. I'll even take a redeye so the airfare will be cheap.
There are one clicks available for root, unlock, and recovery. Just did it today. Wasn't planning tobdo it for a while, but I tried to use a keyboard mod on stock rooted, didn't work now I'm running Clean Rom 2.4 and couldn't be happier. But I have been flashing Roms for over abfew years, and many phones.

Honestly?
NEVER EVER EVER have someone else do this stuff for you.
If you ever come across a problem later on that needs to be fixed, where is your help going to be? these forums+your mind. if someone else does it for you, you are more likely to panic when something comes up.
it is INFINITELY better to understand what you are doing and do the work yourself vs having someone else do everything for you.
if it is too hard for you to accomplish after utilizing the tools and information available to you here, then you are not ready to do it or have it done to your phone. leave it stock until you ARE ready...actually ready, not just thinking you want it.

Bought TF700T - complete Noob

Hi to all
thought it was time I scrapped my chinese Tablet and bought something more powerful, bit of an impulse buy but it did not cost me too much as purchased from E***, 1 dead pixel but actually has 3, I am not too bothered at the moment, it did occur to me that I could probably get this repaired under warranty, cant be more than a year old, would Asus honor this, would I have to provide receipts, anyone know where I stand in regards to this, I really do like the tablet, it is responsive and screen looks good, internet is really quick, be good to know what other things this bad boy can do, what I would like to ask is what apps would you all recommend and if anyone has found a decent case and cover for both components. I have been reading all the posts on custom roms, that might be a little bit beyond me as I have no experience of this. also read that it is only possible if tablet is running ICS, my is on JB 4.1.1
there was another question I wanted to ask, does this device allow for tethering to my iphone so I can use the 3g capabilities, and how is this done if possible, please make it simple as I am a bit of a Noob. as you have gathered I do need some help unleashing the power of my new toys, interested to hear anything or any suggestions, best apps, I would be extremely grateful and many thanks in advance. have a good day guys.
Kind Regards
Paul

I wouldn't count on ASUS fixing it under warranty -- I don't know where you are based, but in the EU the onus is on the owner to prove manufacturer's fault in case of damage after the first 6 months after purchase. I don't know how easy that'd be. If they do not bother you to a significant extent, I probably would not send it in, even if only because because of the insane amount of ASUS charges for intake alone, by which is added the insane repair costs.

Easy does it -- pnly step into customization once you're ready for it. A lot of owners are perfectly happy with the stock device. Once you go that route, however, you will not use stock ever again.

I doubt that the warranty would be covered, you would probably have to pay for a replacement screen. Also, have you tried restarting it and putting a fresh flash of the stock rom on it? I have had pixels go out but they turn back on after a reboot or two. Before ever considering flashing a custom rom make sure you read through the forums!!! Many here will help you . I am new to flashing and stuff as well and did a month research here before I attempted to flash any roms and I had no problems. I tether my iphone 3gs to my tablet but my iphone is jailbroken and I use PDANET so I can tether it through wifi and then it allows laptops and other devices without bluetooth to tether as well. I found the most helpful is reading threads about people who have bricked their devices. I am not happy their tf700 became bricked but by reading through you can find out why it was bricked and to know to never make their mistake.

Many thanks for the replies, really helpful, I have also noticed another problem with the tablet.
Power up problem.
hold down power button,it vibrates after a few seconds but nothing appears on the screen, if I attempt again, I have to hold it longer and then it vibrates again, this goes on for maybe 4-5 attempts before the thing boots, what is doing this, lol, so what i do now which is quite annoying, I just hold down the power button until the logo appears, maybe 1-2 minutes before it boots. tried a reset and a cold boot but still does it, any help would be great. have a great weekend everyone.
kind Regards
Paul
How are you shutting it down? I know sometimes when I would go to shut down, it wont shut down all the way and it requires me to force it off. However the vibration is an indicator of the tablet turning on/off. I never really had a problem with this as when I shut it down, if it dont vibrate like after 10 secs the screen goes off, I force shut it down, this is when it vibrates. Then I just hold the power button down and it boots up fine. Which is indicated by another vibration.

Make sure you don't accidentally hold down the volume-up button. That would enter APX mode, which does what you describe (and it enables a low-level USB recovery protocol).
