So I've noticed recently that whenever my phone reboots, it seems to lose all the settings I've set in certain apps (could be all of them, I've only noticed it in a couple). For example, with Weather Widgets - Donate, everytime my phone boots up I have to re-enter my area info and for the new calendar widget included in the Gumbo ROM, I have to re-configure the settings everytime too.
I'm using Gumbo 1.5c and I never had this problem before switching. When I do a wipe -> fresh install it doesn't seem to happen but I noticed it happening again as soon as I went into ADB and changed some stuff. At first I thought it was the memory killer settings but I haven't changed them from the default setting included in Gumbo and I'm still having the problem.
The only thing I did when I was in ADB was delete some system apps I don't use (off the top of my head, Sprint_Core.apk, Mail.apk, Weather.apk) and delete the /data/misc/lockscreen and /system/etc/lockscreen dirs. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks

After rooting my phone and removing the ATT bloatware, I noticed that my Advanced Task Killer (Free) program lists more programs running in the background than before? Lots of programs that never popped up when the phone was stock now are showing up in the Task Killer program as running? Is this right? Did something screw up? If I kill all those processes the only ones that consistently comes back are HandCent SMS and Clock.
I've been noticing the default messaging app and clock open up a lot, and sometimes other apps too, like ESPN ScoreCenter, Facebook, etc. are opening up by themselves. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
I've noticed that my GPS kicks on every once in awhile too randomly. Usually when I can tell something's running in the background.
If you turn off Background Data in Settings>Accounts and Sync, it stops it almost in its entirety, but you have to turn it on to access the Market. My guess is it's just the programs collecting or sending data regarding use of the program, or with the clock (and possibly other programs) updating itself.
I can see the logic in that some apps need to update, but I never saw these same apps exhibit this behavior before I rooted. ie) Apps running themselves and showing up in my Advanced Task Killer program and now I have to kill them where before I never knew they were there in the first place. No changes to my phone except root. Are these based on the General Sync Settings options like Background Data or AutoSync? I just don't like the idea of all these apps running when I never started them in the first place.
I think you just didn't see them before... rooting isnt going to make apps randomly start doing things they didnt do before.
This needs to be in the gerenral section as well.
it shouldnt cause more to run :/
Sorry if this post is in the wrong section. But yeah, I know those apps that are popping up now weren't there before. I'm sure I didn't miss seeing them as I have all the settings for Advanced Task Killer program set the same in terms of security levels.
Are you saying that rooting my phone made the apps show up now (as in they were just hidden to the OS/program prior to rooting)?
eh
Well The same thing used to happen to me on my HTC desire so it must just be Android (maybe has to do with the build) or just Android in general. I would get stuff like settings and such in the task managers as well etc, exactly to what you guys are describing. They were not really used or needed programs so ending the tasks was no problem. No clue, but this is not only on this device
And yes my HTC DESIRE was rooted as well
Moved to General.
I am not sure whether this is the same issue that others are seeing with random shutdowns - these seems a little different from what I have seen posted, but hopefully someone has some suggestions on a remedy.
I am running an AT&T Captivate on stock Froyo ROM, rooted, using LauncherPro. Periodically, but seemingly most frequently after an app has been installed or updated, the Cap will become unresponsive. After a few minutes, it will come back asking me which launcher to execute (i.e., LauncherPro or TouchWiz). The phone runs media scan and other typical start-up activities. The two strange things - on Settings - About Phone - Up time does not reset, nor do I see the AT&T splash screen. Everything else acts like a reboot, including at times the Cap's ability to recognize apps installed on SD (apps show up in Settings-Applications) with long Unix names and can not launch, although you can go to Manage Apps and see them listed.
Any ideas on what is going on, and whether to blame the phone, LauncherPro, or something else? (And anyone know how to get my apps on the SD card to be recognized properly without multiple resetting the phone - merely killing LauncherPro in the task manager does not seem to work for me).
I get that occasionally too. I don't think it it's launcher pro since I am running adw ex on mine. I am also on Cognition, not stock. Other than that, it is exactly as you described.

You know how when you first set up the phone, let's you swipe up on the lockscreen to start right away, or down to "tune a few things first?" Well my phone repeatedly keeps doing that any time the lockscreen comes up, like whenever I turn it on or when the phone sort of crashes. When it happens, I have to wait for No Lock to disable the screen again, because if I use either option, the animation freezes half way through the unlocking and the phone crashes, going to a black screen and I have to turn it off to get it to work.
I thought it might be due to system apps I froze with bloat freezer, so I unfroze them one by one and did resets, to see if that solved it. I did this until everything was unfrozen, to no avail. I thought maybe it was due to a glitch in the extended controls widget I used to disable the lock screen, so I switchedto no lock; same problem. I don't knowb what else to do. Any ideas?
God I hate samsung and their glitch riddled android hacks. They improve literally nothing from stock android, its just glitchy hacks and downgrades.*prays for the next nexus to have a hard keyboard.*
Just fixed the same issue with my sk4g. I tried installing with terminal and various install apps, no dice. There is a workaround until you get the apks back in place. Turn on the pattern lock and set it. When the curtain lock comes up DO NOT SLIDE IT, just open the screen and the pattern lock should pop up. First install Systemapp Remover, if not done already. Download the dump in development section and pull the apks from the app folder. The two apks causing the error are PhoneSetupWizard.apk and Learn.apk(maybe not learn but i did both to be sure also copy/paste the .odex files). Make sure neither can be seen in the system app list in Systemapp remover, if they are there uninstall them. Take the apks from the dump and copy/paste them to SysteAppBackup folder on the sdcard. Go to the restore menu in Systemapp remover and tap to restore each apk. Reboot and all should be well. Thanks to the kind people of xda for this, not me.
edit>>> Run the setup wizard and uncheck the data options to stop maps from running all the time for no reason.
I am rooted, running stock with ADW launcher pro. The past two days, my widgets have stopped updating their content.
Some widgets, like google music, will still control the app, however, they will not show the correct song.
-my time does not change.
-I have gentle alarm and the widget is totally unresponsive.
-I have a flashlight widgets which will turn on the phone's flash light, but the widget will not update to show that it is on
-I have a wifi tether widget that will switch the hotspot to on, but the widget once again will not change appearance to show that it is activated.
-I have calengoo which will update after a reset but then will not change again (to the best of my knowledge i havent verified this one yet)
If i reset the phone the time will update to the time of the reset, but will not change after that. I have tried battery pulls, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling widgets. I have tried freezing touchwiz in titanium. i am out of ideas.
Any idea what is causing this partial widget impairment?
For anyone that had a simmilar problem, I solved this by manually restarting ADW from within the ADW settings. I hadn't thought to do this since I didn't see how it would be different from resetting my phone, but something must be altered when it is manually restarting, perhaps a cache?
Problem Solved
I have several custom "Ringtones" and "Notifications" files inside these folders and they would always be included on the list of available sounds whenever I wanted to select one as a default. Suddenly they are all mysteriously missing on any of the lists.
I thought perhaps I denied a permission somewhere that is preventing my Pixel from seeing them, but I combed through everything. I went into Settings - Apps - Reset app preferences, but that didn't fix it. Toggling on a few more permissions for storage didn't fix it either. I rebooted after everything and still no change. I also checked the permissions on both of these folders and they're correct. I even defrosted everything I previously froze in Titanium Backup.
Odd thing, they were all working just a few weeks ago and I can't for the life of me figure out what changed aside from the 7.1.2 update.
Does anyone have any idea what may have happened or where else I can look? It's not worth the bother of a factory reset, but I sure would like to have Pink Floyd back.
SOLVED: Well good grief, all I did was delete the files and then copy them back in. Now they're all showing up like they should.
