REVIEW OF HTCCLAY’S FASTTEST 3.0.3

HTCClay has released another update to his FastTest ROM, taking us to version 3.0.3. As the title suggests this is a quick ROM. As always from HTCClay’s ROMs it is also very smooth and great for everyday use. This one has a very nice new music player with some widgets for the music player too. The launcher has also been modified on this, very similar to the Nexus One launcher I have seen elsewhere. Battery life is very impressive too, finishing a day’s normal usage after setups and downloads with 40% left.
There was a small issue with setting up the Google mail account on this ROM, but with an install of the previous version of FastTest, run the initial setup and then install this new version without a wipe then it will work a charm. And once it you’ve got past this it works a charm

If stuck at google sign in (coming from other rom), just flash 3.0.2 then flash over 3.0.3 without wipe. Apparently it might works.

I'm aslo coming from Super D 1.8, that rom is very fast indeed but I kept on having some issues from time to time that were frustrating me, this one is the same on speed with about the same features, and now with us g1 users being able to over clock to 700+ its super quick

How can you overclock to 700mhz?
all i have seen is upto 550mhz.
Couldn't get 3G to work, on any version of this Rom. Made 100% sure the APN-settings were correct. Somebody I know had the exact same problem so it isn't just me, it just doesn't work on some mobiles.
Back to SuperD it is for me also.

I have yet to see a dev who objects to people praising his ROM and spreading the word.

Hell yes! I've been using this since saturday night, great ROM. It's replaced Super D 1.8 as my favorite rom currently.
description, and change log of the ROM would be nice. On the other hand props to htcclay on the amazing ROM, knew it would be a matter of time until some one passes up super d.

Yea, it lacks those sort of but ill tell you right now, im running it and its like lightning. Also has everything black themed, awesome ROM. Def go for it.
If anybody has a link to the official page for the ROM or changelog, please post it. I have the dev on twitter though as @htcclay.

I don't believe it is. This is much faster than SuperD 1.8 and I don't have any issues with this rom at all. For some reason my Home key wouldn't work with SuperD 1.8

nope it is, lol trust me on this one, id bet a million and a half dollars its the EXACT same rom but has some differant images, lol it cracks me up that people actually think its differant hahaha

Haha really? And now I feel like a dumb ass, however after flashing back to supper d I really dont like this rom anymore its not as fast as I thought it was. I think its because I had the 780mhz patch on this rom and I didn't have it on supper d

The theme might be more optimized. Themes actually do affect load times, I find.

Cyanogen's kernel recompiled into "dwang's" v1.1.4-v1.1.5

This ROM is completely 1.6 stock (framework, apps, etc) with the exception of the following enhancements:
1. Compcache enabled by default (no backing swap, just straight compcache)
2. Memory hack which gives you 107.5 megs of linux system memory
3. ROM works with both mt3g (32b) and g1 (dream).
4. Root enabled
5. Market should be fully working
6. Busybox
7. Loccy's enhanced Browser v1.5 with MT
8. Netfilter and iptables modules added to the kernel. Wifi tethering works with both "aNetShare" and "android-wifi-tether" apps.
9. Launcher with 5 screens
10. Apps2SD for G1/Dream users ext2/ext3 fs only [may need to format /system/sd (/dev/block/mmcblk0p2) partition if getting black screen]
11. Work Email App (Exchange Support)
12. Userinit.sh support in /sdcard directory
13. All built-in apps optimized with zipalign and optipng
Caveats:
* Because of the RAM Hack, 3d games will run slow!
* Does not support ext4 partition

Im coming from Dwangs 1.1.14 and i can tell you that this rom is screamin fast.

Ridiculously fast is probably the best way to phrase it. Left Cyanogen's in the dust, and though I hate to say it... it's faster than xROM. Though xROM's theme was gorgeous...

Clay never really puts a changelog because hes mainly based off of twitter, he does these for himself really if i had to guess because he doesnt publicize them that much. Its basically CM5 with a whole new look, a diff launcher, swap script, gapps included with the requirement of an EXT partition.

Thats exactly what it is its CM5 with Gapps included and he took what he did with SuperFast theme and added to CM5. Its pretty nice looking.
This is based off Cyanogen 5.0.7-test1.
Facebook sync works, well too I might add.

To get the Superbad theme on CM5, I pushed framework-res.apk. I also pushed services.jar but that might not have been necessary.
They go in /system/framework

Yes. I have a g1 and flashed it and it's fast!!! But is it me or is may g1 wasting more battery than usual!!!!! 50% in 45mins!! Why? Overclock is 528max 128min. Super D never did this even in 528max and min. And I do use task killer. Anyone has this problem?

In the CM test2 rom there is a thread about installing jit to make the phone faster, is this possible with SuperBad? Again what is jit? Thanks.

When you press phone, add, or app apps the color is red

Already really quick on Fender mytouch. Im taking it you left the cyan settings out on purpose because even trying to install it from newest nightly it doesnt show up.
Im also assuming that if you did do it on purpose, "Home in memory" is already set and or/CC/Swap?

But I'm getting REALLY tired of all these hellrisen ROMs. It's not anyone's fault, really, but hellraiser just sprouted a poostorm of ROMs that are more or less the same.
Again, don't take it personally, this had to be posted somewhere. I'm sure you did a good job.

Dont take it personally, but every custom "stock" ROM is basically the same because they're based off of the same firmware. (whether its a port or not) MIUI and CM7 differ from stock ROM's.
My advice is if you dont like them dont click on them? Dont want to see Hellraiser Ports buy a phone that doesnt support it

This ROM looks extremely nice. Currently using a great rom hmm may have to try it.

Or they're all nicely done ports and I've never experienced one that's the same. I agree with Big, nothing had to be said. When you put even one hour into development, then you'll understand. I put a few in a couple of months back and then life kicked me in the balls so I had to put all that on hold. Point is, that it's not easy man, and you had no reason to post that.
