Morphgear on WM6.5x problems - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Since installing a custom Rom with latest Windows build (bigger buttons at bottom ) I am having difficulty going into Morphgear settings to change game pads etc..even if I can do this (by using direction arrows on keyboard), the "ok" at bottom of setting page does not work..So the larger buttons on WM seem to be affecting Morphgear..anyone else have this problem?

Yes, it annoys me too and i dont know about any solution. But you can change the settings by pressing the back hardware button. This workaround works only if no game is loaded though.

Latest esmertec jbed soft key issues

I have tried a number of different jblend and jbed versions to launch java games on my touch dual. Almost all of them either produced errors, didnt launch or install the java files. I finally found one that worked which was a version of jbed called JRebeiro Esmertec Jbed which has a build ID: 20071119.3.1. This one launched all the java files perfectly.....
However, the only problem now is that I can't use the soft keys! I can use the D-pad and the keypad (numbers) to navigate through the menus, but the left/right soft keys don't work. For example, if I run Need for speed pro street, the first option is whether or not to enable sound. The 'yes' and 'no' icons show, but I cant select either soft key so I cant continue!!
I tried searching the forum and read through the whole 'midlet bible' thing but didnt find anything conclusive!
Does anyone know a solution? or even a midlet manager that has the soft keys working?

Strange, in my 3.1 copy (did you use the same as me? http://www.winmobiletech.com/092007MidletBible/JRebeiro_EsmertecJbed_20071119.3.1.zip ) works just great on my (several) Pocket PC's.
If it doesn't work at all, get Cloudyfa's 2.1: http://www.winmobiletech.com/092007MidletBible/Jbed.zip
First of all, thanks for the reply.
I had the same versions as you just showed and I had also previously tried Cloudyfa's version too. I tried out the ones you posted anyway just to be safe but I had the same problem on both...no soft keys. (BTW, The soft key buttons on screen work in the Jbed main screen, its just when I launch a java game that I cant select or use the soft keys).
What buttons do you use as the soft keys?
The only buttons left on my touch dual apart from the number pad is the start and end call buttons, the navigation/D pad, the volume up and down keys and the camera button. Only the navigation/d-pad buttons seem to when I launch a game in Jbed, but the other keys function as normal (if i press the call button, the phone dialer appears, or if i press the camera button, it launches the camera).
So are the soft key buttons on the touchscreen (icons shown on the touchscreen) meant to work? Or is the touch dual lacking the necessary buttons?

oic. I've always used hardware buttons; no wonder in-game softkeys don't work (they aren't supposed to).
use a button redefiner; for example, AEBPlus, to map left/right softkey functionality to the existing buttons (for example, Camera)
Thanks for that. I finally solved it!
I went and got AEBplus like you said and I noticed it showed the left and right soft keys eventhough there arent any on the touch dual. Then I went to check the actual buttons option in the windows setting tab and found that I can map some of the shortcut buttons as left/right soft keys! Everything works perfectly now. Just got to find the right buttons to map the left/right soft keys.
Finally solved that problem! I'm surprised no one mentioned this anywhere else.....probably because its a touch dual specific problem.

The touchpro "D-Pad"

Apologies if this has been thoroughly covered, I went back 4-5 pages in each forum but didn't see anything.
From what I can gather from reviews and youtube videos the D-pad on the Touch pro works like a standard D-pad, and when in opera can be used to zoom in by circling it with a finger like a click wheel on an Ipod. Is it possible to modify it to work as a scroll wheel instead of a "zoom wheel". I know this isn't an option out of the box, but is it something that's possible, or being worked on?
I'm considering from the tilt, and while I've convinced myself that I don't need the hard left and right buttons, or the email & browser buttons, I'm not sure I'll be able to get used to working without any kind of jog dial/scroll wheel.
I think it's been asked and the answer is not yet.
The D-pad is one of the things I really don't like about the phone though, the buttons are all on the same plane, not separated in any way, and that makes it very difficult to differentiate the d-pad from the home/back/send/end buttons. I didn't find it was a problem until playing games, when I kept minimizing the window by hitting the Back button.
oh... the touch pro has a d-pad??? omg ive had the phone for almost a month and i only just discovered it. i thought it was just a scroll thing. its really hard to press though..

Well I don't really play a whole lot of games on my phone, but I do read a lot of really long email threads, and more importantly, when I'm bored I read sites like overheardinnewyork.com which is basically a lot of text to scroll through.
I'm getting the feeling that I'm going to have to find a way to "play" with a TP and see if I love it or not. I went 8125, x01ht, tilt, and now I'm looking to upgrade. but if this phone isn't going to rock me, I'll hold out (for what I don't know).
As much as I like flashing new roms to my tilt, it seems all anyone does is try to rip the best features from other phones...so at some point I might as well just get the other phone.
Diamond Tweak 0.5.3 allows you to enable d-pad scrolling for some applications.

Hmmm, looks promising. Have you tried it? I just can't imagine I'd ever use the zoom feature, although up to now I've used opera mini, so perhaps after switching to opera mobile I'd change my mind. But I'm still pretty sure I'd prefer to double tap the screen to zoom, and have another means of scrolling.
I have tried it and it works well for contacts (useful), programs etc but does not work with my Yahoo inbox (possibly due to the ROM I am using - ROmeOS v1.22) and it does not replace the zoom in opera. You can set up custom applications in DiamondTweak so it may be possible to overcome any differences between ROM's by setting up a custom application. I do use the zoom in opera so wouldn't want to replace it.
You can still double tap to zoom in/out on opera, as well as the wheel - the wheel lets you zoom in/out in small increments, double tapping toggles between full page and zoomed in.

Think about this, with Opera Mobile you'll only have 2 levels of zoom ("in" or "out") unless you use the wheel to zoom. I liked being able to use it to fine tune and get things to look just right, but that's me. Try it out and see what you think.
With newer versions of Opera Mobile, there is now an on-screen zoom slider that adds a "tap and slide" button for incremental zooming. Now I find myself wanting an alternative to scrolling, since my finger otherwise covers up part of the screen and might accidentally click a link. Unfortunately the arrows and dpad don't scroll the page but instead jump from link to link.
This has been one detail (although a minor detail) that has made be begin to consider replacing my TP with the X1, since the X1's optical sensor dpad apparently provides scrolling functionality.

use advance config 3.3 ........search for the link
go to options, click smart touch and it allows you to add any application, where in touch wheel (above D Pad) can be used for scrolling......i use it for contacts, file manager, program, call history, phone window, mails, messages and its really usefull and very cool........i dont use it for opera and internet explorer and use it for zooming as put in default

Thanks for the info. As I said, I haven't picked up the TP yet, I'm holding out for the Fuze (or a reasonably priced GSM model).
To change gears a bit, I'm curious, what kind of difference do people see in using cooked Roms on this device. I only ask because as a Kaiser user I'm used to using Roms because they incorporate features from the latest equipment. But as this is among the newest models out, and a "flagship" phone so to speak...is there much of an advantage over say a stock ATT rom minus the bloat? I enjoy high level of customization, and being able to pick my features, but as this is a relatively new device, I don't want to go through the trouble of unlocking and flashing if there isn't going to be a real gain in performance/features, or if it's going to impact performance (like trying to run Manilla 2d on a Kaiser, and pretending that a 5 second screen rotate time is ok)
PS: just for the record, despite my incredibly low post count, I've been lurking on the board for ~2 years...I'm not some (I hate this word) newb asking "what rom is best" or "can someone explain to me how to XXX reading the Wiki is too much work"...just wanted to throw that out there.
Volume buttons for scroll
Review on wmexperts of Sprint Touch Pro has the information below in the comments area. Looks like the reviewer followed up with the statement that he used AE Buttons to remap the volume buttons on the side, where the scroll wheel is on 8525/Tilt to scroll up and down with each click. I don't have Fuze, but it seems like this would work on it as well, I don't think it's a free softare though.
http://www.wmexperts.com/reviews/smartphones/review_24_hours_with_the_sprin.html
Buttons: I have successfully used AE Buttons to successfully remap the volume up and down buttons. I have the volume down button set at one click to scroll down and a log click for OK/Enter. The volume up button is set at one to scroll up and the log click Alt/Tab Wisbar's switch utility. I have also remapped the Back button to OK/Enter. The Home button now brings down the Start Menu on a single click and Email when I hold it down. This has made life a lot easier and has in virtually increased my available hardware buttons to a more comfortable level of usable buttons.

How have you managed to get AEButton working on your home button?
I found that the home and back buttons seem to be "hard coded" to do their tasks, and AEbutton only assigns an *additional* task to each button. In other words, when I press Home for start menu, it first goes home, and then opens start. If I map the back button to Camera, it first goes back an application screen, then launches camera. Very annoying. The only buttons I found AEButton works with is the vol up and down. Is there a trick I'm missing?

HTC HD2 T-Mobile - Is there a better virtual keyboard?

I have issues with the use of the OEM on-screen keyboard of the HTC HD2. It registers the keys next to the ones I press if my finger even begins to slide a little when pressing the desired key.
I would like something much more stable than what it's equipped with. Does anybody know of a better keyboard for the HTC HD2?

Excellent! Thank you. That worked out just fine. It is better than the OEM KB. It also looks better. Is there a touchscreen sensitivity setting somewhere for the HD2, do you know?
EDIT -
Unfortunately the Fingerkeyb has a bug in landscape mode. Pressing the spacebar often brings up the menu because it is so close to the bottom of the screen.
EDIT 2-
Eh...I spoke too soon. The landscape mode doesn't work properly. I thought it was limited to the same size as the portrait mode because that's what shows up when pulling up the keyboard while in landscape mode. But after tapping the small arrow beside the KB selector, and then choosing Fingerkeyb, the landscape mode comes up. Which isn't all that appealing because it separates the keyboard at the middle, putting the directional arrows in the middle, rather than providing larger keys like the OEM keyboard does.
Hopefully the creator of this keyboard will will see these issues and deal with them. I guess I'll just stick to the OEM board for now...much less complex to pull up.
Me thinks this is wrong forum...
And I suggest Swype. It should be on the forums here somewhere.
Well...All is well. I had the 2.0 version installed and found the 2.1 version from a post speaking about it. Googling fingerkeyb brings up a link to the thread in xda with the 2.0 version. After specifically Googling fingerkeyb 2.1, I was able to get it.
2.1 resolves the issues I had and is much nicer too.
I just can't get over how things go wrong when I speak of something working well.
The letter "b/B" is dead in the fingerkeyb. Tapping it does nothing. It doesn't register.
I suppose it's just in the default skin, red/black. I loaded another skin, gray/black, and it now works. Also, the "b/B" works in the default skin if the option to "Show bar" for landscape mode is selected. The "b/B" works fine either way in the default skin in portrait mode.
as already mentioned, google for Swype mate, trust me you'll never use another keybord again
One of the cooked ROMS has a cab for swype within it. Not sure on the legalities of it as it was only released for the Tmobile HD2, but if someone confirms its ok I'll tell you which ROM to save you digging about.
Actually if you are happy with the keyboard and its just the sensitivity issue then take a look at this post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=604831
I had majoy issues with the keyboard and pressing of buttons etc but this CAB worked a treat!
Moved as not software release.

MAMECE3

I have copied the folder I had MAMECE3 (mamece3 dot mameworld dot info) installed on - onto the sd card in my HD2. The program runs fine, but the problem is the buttons. I see that morphgear has an onscreen d-pad - is it possible to add one to this? This is the one thing I really miss from my old Axim x51v - a d-pad!
They have the source code available. This would open our devices up to yet another whole world of 1,000s of games. I would love to see moonpatrol, pacman, tapper and asteroids running yet again. And with freeware ;-)
note: anyone else have a favorite game they used to run on MAME?
You just named all my favs..... I'd love to see the MAME come to the HD2.
Try with LMT (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=629263): among the other features it sports a good trasparent multi-touch onscreen controller, that can be used either on portrait and landscape mode.
It should overcome your problem (and be much more playable...).
By the way SEGA and Capcom games were the best!
OK tried it - nothing.
More detail - I installed it as per the instructions (on the device). If i run it, it just takes me back to the home screen. No findger swipes do anything other than the regular sense ones. I checked the task manager I don't see it running. I wonder what it takes to call it up other than just clicking on the shortcut.
So, I ran MAME. after a short time the game chooser menu comes up. It is at this point that I can set the buttons for different things, but nothing as far as LMT is concerned. So I go back and run it thinking maybe it is not running in the background (esp. since it never shows up in the task manager). Ahhh (wait for it ......) still nothing.
Kind of disappointing. I can start a rom, enter coins, but that is it - without my beloved d-pad i miss soo much.
Any other ideas?
Quick report back. Went over the thread again. Saw what I was doing wrong with LMT. It is a double swipe thing. I see the double swipe etc. on the Home screen. If you drawing a box with your finger the console comes up. I have had that up while trying to configure the buttons. I was even able to configure all of the buttons to taps on the LMT console (up = up, A for exit game, etc.) - no success.
When the game starts it is still lokking for the hardware keys and not the software ones - even though they are set in the button configure menu of MAMECE.
Please let us know if anyone else was able to get it working.
I succesfully mapped buttons 1 and 2 on LMT Controller, but not the others. Directional keys work perfectly.
My problem is that with the LMT Controller in portrait mode the only visible section of the screen during game is under the controller, while on landscape mode all is visible but it's really unconfortable!
And unluckily MAMECE3 doesn't support screen in landscape mode!
I've to figure out something else...
OK If you are interested in this. The LMT controller works great (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=629263&page=67) go there get it - DONATE!. note: this is the latest page - it is on page 1. Use it in landscape mode. You just have to have it off when going to button settings - then do the square to open it - set the buttons. Hit the x to close it and save your settings.
Start the ROM you want - restart the controller.

YES it does. Click on options > Rotate Right and it will work just fine. It took me a while to figure this one out. Also, if you delete all of your config files in the cfg directory it will use your default settings for everything. One thing I did was, change the one player button to the back arrow (hard key) less problems that way.
Remeber that left arrow then right arrow is "OK"

Is there any way to force a menu button entry? Many older programs such as Scumm Vm do not have on-screen menus of any kind of rely on the button.

AFAIK ScummVM is a derelict project - fully functioning and fully featured but no longer updated. It will likely never have anyone tailoring Shield support for it. So I have no way whatsoever to access the menu once in game, and hence no way to save or load, making most games essentially fruitless to play given their nature as long graphic adventures. I think the exclusion of a menu button is a bummer and a deficiency. They could of coded so a double press of the Nvidia button registers as a menu press, or something akin to that; knowing how cool Nvidia is, I imagine they'll either add this in, or their openness about the Shield will allow a custom rom to force it in... Still, it's a bummer right now that ScummVM is essentially "broken" on the Shield. 15+ years of superb graphic adventures.. Nuts.
I know the menu button is no longer a requirement on Android devices, but I for one am very sorry to see it go, even outside of implications for old Android applications that do not get freqeuent updates such as ScummVM.
Also the lack of a menu button means I can't bring up the keyboard at will in apps such as Dosbox! That's a huge problem! Being able to bring up the keyboard whenever you want was useful in many, many applications, I don't know why they would ever eliminate that.
I've yet to try SCUMM on the shield but there isn't a way to bring it up by swiping the screen?
On Dosbox, the keyboard can be brought up by swiping down from the top of the screen. Maybe it can be done somehow with ScUMM.

Is there an App like Button savior which has a menu button?? I use that app on my nook tablet which only has one button but I don't recall there being a menu button
If you're rooted you can use tincore keymapper and make whatever button you want into the menu button. Just run it when you run the emulator.
"Home 2 shortcut" could also work. Like someone above said it could assign menu to double tap of the home button. I've not tried it on the shield though. Though I'm not sure it can be used like this...It might only work to launch apps.

I know this is an old post, but it came up on google when I was trying to resolve this problem myself. I decided to sign up and post the solution I found incase someone else searches the web trying to fix this problem.
I'm using the Nvidia Shield, but i believe this Build of ScummVM resolves problems for a lot of Android Devices:
google: ScummVm svn55436 1-1-0-7 (I Can't post links as a new user)
This is a stand-alone version of ScummVm, it offers an onscreen keyboard, as well as the ability to map buttons--resolving the issue of accessing a menu to save/load your game progress
Here is what I did using Nvidia Shield:
1. unistalled any Scumm apps I had
2. Using the chrome browser I went to: H TTP anddev.at.ua/load/scummvm_svn55436/1-1-0-7 (OR) google: ScummVM svn55436 1-1-0-7 (Again, I Can't post links as a new user)
the download link is at the top of the post
3. I went to settings>security> Check "Unknown Sources" UnCheck "Verify apps"
(This prevents Android from blocking installation switch these settings back after step 4.)
4. I then went to apps>downloads> and clicked "7_scummvm-sdl-1.7.apk" to install it
5. once installed I opened the program, I spent sometime configuring things in a trial by error fashion
Here's my configuration settings to my best recollection:
1. Video Settings> Check--Keep 4:3 screen aspect ratio
2. Mouse Emulation> Calibrate Touchscreen
3.Remap Physical Keys> (I pressed the "left shoulder" button on my gamepad)> Select Action> (scroll down) Show all Keycodes> then select "F5" <<<<This Lets you access the menu so you can SAVE/LOAD!!!!!
Were you able to use the analog stick to control the cursor? Mine acts very erratic. I followed your instructions and scumm works fine but I just that issue.

I've been able to get by just fine using the touchscreen. The joystick is a little funky on me too, any movement tends to send the cursor drifting offscreen.
The guy who did this build, I believe, designed it for android devices in general and not specifically for the Shield, so if you want the analog joystick working you might be s-o-l.
I have to say though, the touchscreen is working pretty good for me--I'd give it shot and try to get used to it.
