Latest esmertec jbed soft key issues - General Topics

I have tried a number of different jblend and jbed versions to launch java games on my touch dual. Almost all of them either produced errors, didnt launch or install the java files. I finally found one that worked which was a version of jbed called JRebeiro Esmertec Jbed which has a build ID: 20071119.3.1. This one launched all the java files perfectly.....
However, the only problem now is that I can't use the soft keys! I can use the D-pad and the keypad (numbers) to navigate through the menus, but the left/right soft keys don't work. For example, if I run Need for speed pro street, the first option is whether or not to enable sound. The 'yes' and 'no' icons show, but I cant select either soft key so I cant continue!!
I tried searching the forum and read through the whole 'midlet bible' thing but didnt find anything conclusive!
Does anyone know a solution? or even a midlet manager that has the soft keys working?

Strange, in my 3.1 copy (did you use the same as me? http://www.winmobiletech.com/092007MidletBible/JRebeiro_EsmertecJbed_20071119.3.1.zip ) works just great on my (several) Pocket PC's.
If it doesn't work at all, get Cloudyfa's 2.1: http://www.winmobiletech.com/092007MidletBible/Jbed.zip

First of all, thanks for the reply.
I had the same versions as you just showed and I had also previously tried Cloudyfa's version too. I tried out the ones you posted anyway just to be safe but I had the same problem on both...no soft keys. (BTW, The soft key buttons on screen work in the Jbed main screen, its just when I launch a java game that I cant select or use the soft keys).
What buttons do you use as the soft keys?
The only buttons left on my touch dual apart from the number pad is the start and end call buttons, the navigation/D pad, the volume up and down keys and the camera button. Only the navigation/d-pad buttons seem to when I launch a game in Jbed, but the other keys function as normal (if i press the call button, the phone dialer appears, or if i press the camera button, it launches the camera).
So are the soft key buttons on the touchscreen (icons shown on the touchscreen) meant to work? Or is the touch dual lacking the necessary buttons?

oic. I've always used hardware buttons; no wonder in-game softkeys don't work (they aren't supposed to).
use a button redefiner; for example, AEBPlus, to map left/right softkey functionality to the existing buttons (for example, Camera)

Thanks for that. I finally solved it!
I went and got AEBplus like you said and I noticed it showed the left and right soft keys eventhough there arent any on the touch dual. Then I went to check the actual buttons option in the windows setting tab and found that I can map some of the shortcut buttons as left/right soft keys! Everything works perfectly now. Just got to find the right buttons to map the left/right soft keys.
Finally solved that problem! I'm surprised no one mentioned this anywhere else.....probably because its a touch dual specific problem.

How to use softkeys on WM5 (especially Atom)?

Hi,
I'd like to buy an Atom, but I cannot find any real feedback on how usable the device is with one hand, lacking hardware button to map on the WM5 softkeys.
Can someone report if it is possible (and easy) to press the on-screen softkeys with one's thumb?
I'd like also answers from Wizard/Prophet owners, that can compare the usability of hardware vs on-screen buttons (but please do not participate in the poll).
arg0: you can press the softkeys on the screen, and if you have dedicated hardware keys you can of course press those. If you can't manually assign the softkeys to other non-dedicated hardware keys, tell me about it and I'll knock some thing up to sort it.

hi!
What I'd like to know is: can you easily press the softkeys on the screen, using only one hand? (atom has no hardware buttons for the softkeys, and before buying it I want to be sure that one-handed operation is possible).
Thanks.
you can do it, but it's not easy because at least on the equivalent device (magician), the edge of the device tends to get in the way of the softkeys, which are like 7mm high. But it's perfectly feasible, and in the absense of dedicated keys, why not!?
None of these phones are particularly well setup for one handed use, but with some work, can be made that way!

vijay555,
thanks for the answer!
This is the first real user feedback I get about this.
I hope now that some Atom user will report, too.
I have been using the ATOM for the past 1 month and I have always used my thumb to activate the Softkey on the screen
it is much more comfortable that way
The ATOM is too small to use the bottom key (o2 media plus key ) as soft key (only key that can be reassigned in the front panel )
Also U cannot re map the Windows key as of now

Guys, can you not assign the Softkeys to hardware keys?
I could write an app to do that...

Thanks, good to know that that can be done.
What are the hardware buttons that can be remapped?
I read in a review that four hardware buttons can be remaped:
that should be "o2 media plus", "camera", "voice note".
What is the fourth? Power?

Keys under the screen

I was wondering, does the Touch Pro have hardware keys at the bottom of the screen, i mean those 2 softkeys you allways see at the bottom, they also have the hardware keys normaly.
I ask this because when you use a fullscreen program like Pocket IE in fullscreen mode, you can't access those buttons when there is no hardware key.
No, there are no hardware soft keys.
The 4 keys at the bottom of the screen are exactly the same as on the diamond:
Home (returns you to the home screen of TF3D)
Back (goes one step backward in what ever you were doing)
Call Start
Call End.

hmm that is disappointment Some programs really make use of the hardware buttons and i use it a lot with browsing the web and IE fullscreen.
You could just use the new fancy version of Opera that is with the touch Diamond already. It looks much better than PocketIE is ever going to be. I've tried it out on my old tired hermes but I don't have the hardware buttons for zoom so its a bit hard to use.

Button mapping - Power off warning[exe] & connmgr[exe]

I'm a new user of Topaz.
Could anyone know that, is it possible to use the application like SKtools of AEbutton Plus to map the mentioned programme as left and right soft button ??
I was tried to do that, but it doesn't work so far
I use the facility in "TouchFlo Detacher" to remap the left and right soft buttons. The left one now puts my TD2 into standby, and the right goes straight to HTC's comm manager console ("\windows\CommManager.exe"). It works perfectly.

Hardware buttons

Hi,
i look for it for a long time and i can't find it :
how to attribute a function to a button ?
In settings, there is no buttons available though there is 5 hardware buttons !!!
For exemple, i'd like to attribute task manager or task facade to the long press home button, is it possible ?
thanks
up...
nobody is interested in attributing hardware buttons ?
Yes I am interesting too
I used aebutton plus to assign MS Voice Command to long press windows button. That worked fine, although I haven't used it on any other buttons.
Well, the hardware buttons already have set functions. So assigning things to them would be a little bit complex within the settings. That's why they aren't there.
I imagine you would need to use a third party application, and even then you could only assign long presses to the keys.
Long press would be nice though
Pantaloonie, does everything run fine with aebutton and HD2?
Yes, it does what I want it to do, although as I said I only added long press windows key.
It was a little bit fiddly with aebp's small menus on the capacitive screen, but I got there after several attempts.
Now when I start the aebp program, I get an error message reading "Once you set AEBPlus to process Windows button you may also need to re-define following buttons also:"Button 1(Hold)", "OK Key"."
I haven't done as it says, and everything works perfectly.
Cool, thanks I might give it a spin then
Here's a guy who's tried AE Button Plus with HD2 pretty thoroughly it seems:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=603186
I just installed it and mapped the windows hard button with long press to task facade. It worked just fine, but it seems the button lost the original function which is to access the start menu on single tap. I dont mind it so much though, I might as well use the the soft start button in the upper left corner. The important thing is that multi tasking now works without having to go through the today screen.

Emulate Directional Pad using smartphone hardware QWERT keyboard.

Emulate Directional Pad using smartphone hardware QWERT keyboard
Hello ,
I recently aquired a smartphone with a full qwert hard keyboard that is using trackball instead of the standard directional Pad. Result: Most WM apps (especially the GPS program I've tried) does not recognise the trackball and are unusable...
The phone is Toshiba G710.
I was wondering if there is a way (eg by AE Keyboard or something similar) to emulate the directional keys using the QWERT hardware keyboard of the phone. (eg E=up, D=down,,.. etc)
Looking arround in the internet could not find someone solving that problem (maybe because trackball is very non standard for these devices).
Any suggentions are welcome
Thanks
have same problem
does anyone can help? I flashed with wrong ROM, and now my d-pad can't go right and left (just up and down worked). If only it can changed into qwerty pad.

Correction. The programs seem to recognise the trackball as normal arrow keys. Problem is that almost all the GPS programs does not work without touchscreen!!
The only usable GPS program I found that far is PoiNav. I can't zoom or move the map though (cause of no touch screen).
In my "quest" to solve my problem I manage to use my hardware keyboard keys (O,P,L etc..) as shortcuts to run specific applications (like Virtuamouse toggle,AltTab,...).
I could not use them to replace arrow keys cause I tried with the unregistered version. (I only tried with k**** instead of c**** codes ,and k**** codes doesn not work in free version as I understand..).
@st4nd4l0n3 : Install AEKeyboard and use AEKMapScan.exe to find the codes that are created when using the problematic left & right. Then modify a .AEK configuration file to remap that codes to the codes that would be the correct ones. Hint : left, right,up,down are number of the same sequence eg 64,65,66,67...
