Happy Brand New Year Y'all.
Listen. Just browsed the following pages at Expansys.com regarding the above. Can someone tell me what hardware differences there are between the two devices. I'll be damned if the Expansion Pack for I-Mate could not work with the XDAII. Check out the price difference!

wooh Bo Selcta got to Jamica great show, they are identical though quite a rip of and I dont belive for one moment they different manufactures just different boxes that HTC packaged them in
when the rep said to me "different manufactures" i did say "do you mean from different airtime providers" he said "yeh yeh different manufactures" So i take it he had no idea the phone was sold in 2 formats but they are both the same.

So did anyone work out if the I-mate backpack fits & works on the XDAII?
well since they are both HTC Himalaya
and the only difference between I-mate, xda2 and mda2
is a printet label on the device and custom rom
then unless they made some software block it would work
CF Backpacks
Yes - They are all interchangeable ...
BTW: If anyone has one they want to sell, I need a couple for a project..
[email protected] if you've got one
Cheers
Andy
Expansys, ey? Fact is that both are not available yet and in good Expansys tradition they list products for pre-order that they cannot deliver on - they just want you to place a pre-order and hope you will stick with it once the product becomes available... OK, prices on this path are just entirely wrong, but who cares about customers at Expansys anyway
Agree Frank
Have to agree, Frank - I notice you're a local . They should at least be stating accurately when a product is to be released and what the likely wait times are.
Not to mention the fact that the grey market of these products through Expansys just messes up the support channels here in Australia. We can't compete with a zero warranty, zero support product here!!! We've got to factor replacement, support and warranty costs - Real people, real families and real time...
It's hard enough supporting the issues in the current iMate lines (Like helping customers install Widcomm Bluetooth stacks to get GPS units and Navigation systems like Destinator working) - Now that O2 is looking like it'll pull out of Australia altogether now that the Telstra Australia deal pulled away from O2 to iMate (Carrier devices) ... It's going to be interesting what happens with the grey market for these products...
Carrier Devices won't touch a unit from outside Australia!
Cheers.
Andy
Has anyone tried a CF Wi-FI (802.11b) card with the expansion pack?
Do standard CF memory cards stick out a lot or are they flush when installed?
I'm thinking about an i-Mate or XDA-II but I'll need the expansion pack and the ability for Wi-FI (802.11b).
Thank you in advance for the help...
JB
Someone has to actually get the Backpack before we can try it
I ordered one from a place that it was suggested actually had them in stock. I ordered, knowing full well of course that I'd get the "we apologize, but..." e-mail. And of course, a few hours later, I got that e-mail. They claim they had been told this week they would get them, now they are told next Wed Jan 28th. I'll believe it when I see a shipment tracking number. I think HTC has been saying "next week" for the Backpack since November.
I have a Socket CF WiFi card I've been dying to try. My Sandisk SD card works fine, but its a bit awkward the way it sticks out so far and the Socket CF card, with its small antenna, would not seem to extend beyond the edge of the XDA, according to the pictures I've seen of the CF slot on the Backpack.
HTC has handled their accessories very poorly IMO. I don't understand what the holdup is getting them out. The XDA II has been out for months now, but try and get even something as basic as a spare battery. At this rate, the XDA III will be out just as accessories for the XDA II are hitting stores
OK - thanks.
I had not realized that the backpacks were not "shipping" yet.
Please keep us posted.

CF Backpack delivery date!
G'day All,
The CF backpack shipment here is due on Feb 21st 2004. ie. Another few weeks... That's the iMate branded one.. It'll be interesting to see if the O2 branded ones turn up first - But I DEFINITELY doubt it!!
Cheers
Andrew
P.S. If you want one, http://estore.pressd.com in the Pocket PC Section.
Expansion Packs have arrived at expansis UK
I have cantacted Expansis and asked when they will have the expansion packs. They say in 4 working days (Monday in my reconing)
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=109731&asource=106055
They aslo said this is their second shipment as the first lot had run out.
I also noticed that the O2 version has now gone up in price from their previous listing and is very similar to the imate price. But you have to wait 40 days for it.
If anyone has tried it out yet let me know what you think.
Adam
For sale XDA 2, just had a brand new mother board replacement under warranty, all accessories etc, in perfect order. £350.00. UK buyers only, thanks.
Surely this is a spare! You can't possibly be selling your only XDA II!
I certainly am, I may also be selling one for my friend soon.
What's the replacement?
HP63xx?
MPx?
XDAIII? 8)
The xda 2 that I am selling has the very latest 1.66 rom and is perfect in every way, good as new. My phone number is 07709146509 I have brilliant feedback on Ebay and have powerseller status, i use the same nickname as on this board which is cruisin-thru so if you want to check me out just do a search by seller and enter my name. I had a problem with a buyer that tried to fraud me via paypal and because they got kicked off ebay they now make up a new name and buy my items then refuse to pay, makes it impossible to operate, thats why I am offering it here, they have fetched far more than this so £350 is a bargain.

Bump.
how much does that cost in US dollars? or simply what is the conversion to dollars?

Have som questions.
1. Is it the same menyes as in 9100?
2. Can I have all pocket pc programs in it as in 9100?
3. Is it possible to get T9 in swedish on numpad so I can write sms fast?
Any swedish people in here have this today, would like to ask some questions...?
Thx..
I don't think the Atom is released yet to the general public. I've read it should be available mid December...can't wait to hear how it performs.

FYI, atom is released in singapore today. I am expecting advertisements to be out in full force tomorrow. So much for the hyped-up limited sets released. Just in case anyone is interested, the price is SGD$1348 retail.
It is out in HK now and I saw Expansys has already posted it on the official website. But it sells RMB 6240, which is equivlent to USD 780 per unit. It is wayyyyyy expansive. Does anyone know where can I get it with much cheaper price? Chinese version will be a plus.

Some O2 Atom images which I took here
sorry for the blur image as i dun have a good camera with me at that time
I tested it for a day and discovered that it's more laggy than Exec, there seems to have alot of issues on Atom too read here
Hi!
Im planning to buy a new phone, but for me the good ones are too expensive, so I thought I'd give a try a China phone. But are they reliable? I know they can break very fast but maybe there is a sort of good manufacturer. Right now I'm looking at Zopo ZP100 with 1Ghz CPU and stuff, are those any good?
Also what are reliable stores to buy these from? There are some phones like this on Ebay, but I dont know really.

No way dude!I would never do it.done it before with some electronic stuff from China (like the legendary sciphone!Lol what a piece of **** it was!!) I would rather save some money and buy a phone when I can afford it,or buy a used phone over eBay
Send from beneath my cloak of magic
He's right.. save your money and buy a proper phone.
Some Chinese developers have stolen Android and sold it as their own OS. I had a friend from China come to America as an exchange student with an Android phone that was called something else.
The Meizu Android Phones Are Great
I am Chinese, I bought my phone from this website, it is famous in China, but I do not know if it support English.

What the .. ?
First of all - China does not equal ****. Even their unbranded products got quality boost from the recent. Small companies are making their products with almost the western standard and they are pushing through.
ZTE is a company from Shenzhen, China, That has it's range of Android phones that are pretty good, and by the way - they now have more money than Samsung and Apple
Here is a nice example of how chinese phones need not to be total crap:
http://www.malata.com/en/product_detail.aspx?classid=700&id=149
I had the opportunity to check out Malata products with my own hands & eyes and I can tell you that their tablets look better than western makret tablets.
now tell me - is anything wrong with this phone .. ? cant find the price at the moment but I guarantee that it is 1/2 cheaper than new SGS2.
Check the Ainovo or Ainol. They are made in China and cheaper.
Thanks for the many replies!
But seriously? The SciPhone? It is too crappy even when not comparing it to other China smartphones, you should check out the specs first.
That Malata phone looks nice and quite powerful.
Any info on the Zopo ZP100?
I wouldn't doubt they make quality products (after all Foxconn has the largest force of electronics assembly personal the planet has ever seen) but how about that warranty?
Get some ZTE. Or something like that.
Chinese phones tend to have max 4 hours standby.

China also has their own better phone brands, iphone is produced in China, too. Difference is they don't have their own IOS. But this is not important, because android can be used freely. THL is a new phone brand, a ittle like HTC, you can check it out here http://www.tinydeal.com/thl-40-android-pxqd4o-p-52158.html or you can google it. Worth to buy.

I took a look at their phones, and the only thing that isn't great is the processor but that can always be overclocked. I'd buy one just to see how it performs.

Android is Free is it not?
There seems to be a lot of HTC clones on the chinese market.
After reading some posts on the internet and here about these kind of phones I think I might give them a chance after all. I mean theyre cheap, I could buy another one if it breaks.
But the question now is, where to buy one? Which are good shops that wont screw you over?
Meizu
I have to say the Meizu is a good one.
My cousin got one from china and I´ve got it in my hands.
It seems to be a powerful phone w/ fair quality.
All thing working properly, just some issues with the wifi sometimes.
Maybe I´ll get one for my son in the future...

No They Don't
Yes they do Value of a company is not estimated via pure financials but with estimation of market, realestate, workload, location ... ZTE has been a player for more than 20 years in China selling network euipment and their manufacture department is 5-6x bigger than any other company, and they also hold many many departments that do not go into fiscal calculation but still earn a shi*load of money.
they are also suppliers for more than 20 companies and their official sales are less than 10% of total earning.
and for the final conclusion, do the math yourself:
Apple/foxcon - 33.000 workers
ZTE - 90.000 workers
they all work in china where everyone on the same position is payed pretty much the same cash. How come ?

Hello Users! My first post (woohoo) and probably a very noobish one.
Now, I've been using this forum for ages, but never made an account, been using it for my nice Sensation XE, got some great roms and help from the forums.
Anyway, more to the point.
In the UK, the TF700T's are about £600 default at the moment and just keep rising, now, I can get a US one for about £340, which is a lot more in my price range.
Now, I know the obvious, I'll need a US to UK transformer. However, is there anything else I need to be worried about? Such as, Keyboard layout? Firmware? Like, anything major that could effect me having an US tablet in the UK.
I don't give a toss about warranty, I'll be rooting it before I even use it. But, just worried incase firmwares are different? Stopping me from rooting/customisation, I'm just a little stuck here, wasn't sure if I should have stuck this in QnAs, but a general discussion sounded better since I know it's a question a lot of people ask, and people might have different takes on it.
Thank you for reading, much appreciated!

Other side of the world here so can't be definite but:
* keyboard - if you get the dock the layout will be slightly different (your ' and @ are transposed I believe and you'll have $ instead of pound sign) but I assume on the tablet itself you have UK keyboards?
* firmware - if similar to here you'll get it faster than others in UK (I got the latest update a day or two before those that bought locally in Oz)
No idea if there are any other ramifications.
Not really. I live in Sweden and bought mine in NY on my last trip there. Haven't experienced any problems at all. So you're good to go.

ARen't you forgetting import duty? If they catch you anyway...
Hm...
The joy of Android is that it comes with all languages installed, so the tablet you can just set to UK English instead of US English, and that changes the Tablet's keyboard, dictionary and such to the UK layout. The dock, however, will be a US layout. Though from what I've seen, all other countries sell the US-layout keyboard anyhow.
You'll most likely get the updates faster, and that probably includes Jelly Bean. (I see people here mentioning updates I've not seen yet, when, ironically, the Dutch stores sold it before the US...) The firmware for US is different from the international one, or at least there are different versions listed.
Actually, most users here are US, and thus use the US firmware. You'll probably have an easier time rooting and customizing your tablet when you have a US one than if you have a UK one.
Just make sure the store shipping it marks the shipment as GIFT, or you'll be paying a massive import fee.
I paid £60 import duty on my 700 from the US to UK. Apart from a £5 US to UK adaptor i still dont think thats too bad. (i didnt get the keyboard as i had my 200 keyboard)
Do it!
I bought mine in the us, the only catch I found is that the nice UK plug is £25 (but well worth it in my opinion).
That version has snap on us plug adaptors but the one in the box is fixed in place
Can you not just use a power adapter? I thought the transformer line had a power transformer which could handle 240 and 110V inputs? Could well be wrong though!

Hi I have just found this thread, I am also thinking about buying the tf700 from the US, were you sent a import invoice with your tablet? and how long did it take to come from the US?

Do bear in mind, as others have suggested, if you have it shipped to you via mail order you will almost certainly be hit for 20% VAT for an import from a non EU country
If you travel to the US yourself and carry it back you are less likely to need to pay (although technically the VAT is still due)
That said; I'm using a US keyboard (TF201 - not that there is any difference) I sourced to match the TF700 that I imported from Germany. No problems at all. The biggest difference in key layout is the " and @ are swapped around... but takes no time to get used to that.
Good luck!
Yes you can just us a cheap US to UK adaptor, no need to voltage changes. I paid £5 for one in maplin.
Also if you must have a real UK adaptor (for some reason) then just google tf101 power adaptor in Ebay and get one of those. I bought a real asus 101 adaptor for £15 off ebay, better than spending £30 on a 700 one.
