Out of main memory....help please

Although I have all photos, music, apps etc pointed to 'external' memory I am now getting low memory (<2MB) warnings. I have manaully purged (as much as I feel confident with) main memory and even uninstalled and re-installed programs to ensure that they reside in external memory. However when I search for files >64KB there are no files reported in main. This is driving me crazy and I need help before I microwave my HTC Diamond. Please, please point me in the right direction
The messages are probably not for storage memory but for either RAM or virtual memory. Close applications instead of minimizing them (the usual default). Get a task manager and see what's going on.
I hoped that that was the case however I have a RAM cleaner tool and even after running that and killing all processes I still have low memory. Is there any way I can determine what is taking up main memory?
you know one of my friends has the same problem with his samsung omni and i can't for the life of me find what is taking up so much room. he is pretty back to stock and we have tried everything. i tell him to return his phone as defective but he hasn't. is this a winmo problem that could be a bad code or is it just dumb luck that this has happened to an htc and samsung?
Calendar items, phone logs, messages reside in main memory too -- have you cleared those?
I do use the calendar and maybe clearing some of the old entries will help. However I do not use the handset as a voice phone, only data, and have no call logs or texts taking up space. I do use it for email so will check that too. That said it's currently using 83.36MB out of 84.56MB and doubt if the odd deletions will make a great difference. Is there a way of partitioning some of the storage card space over to extend the main storage area?
You can relocate \My Documents pretty easily with a registry change. You can also move your PIE cache (sk tools will help with this). These things might help. I thought the diamond had 4G of internal memory? Does it have a small main memory and then a large internal storage memory? I'm afraid I'm not that familiar with it.
You may want to install ClearTemp or something similar to clean out your temp and volatile folders. And you're sure it's not a ram issue? Do you have the problem immediately after a soft reset, or does it take a while?
I may have been leading you down the garden path. When I run the memory app' in Settings there are two totals: Storage and Program. In storage 82.7MB out of 84.5MB is in use and in program 78MB out of 111MB is in use. The Diamond complains of being almost out of memory shortly after it is turned on. Without a guide to follow I'm a little ill at ease attempting registry changes even though I have advanced config and PHM RegEdit installed. I will try ClearTemp if I can install it! Thanks for the help to date.
Does anyone know how to clear out the 'storage' area of the HTC as Opera is now refusing to run (not enough cache space...?) I'm facing the prospect of reloading the firmware (again) with no confidence I won't be back in this situation again in a couple of months
The out-of-memory warning message is activated after the ram memory is lower than a desired value .
The activation pattern and the threshold value are controlled by a set of registry entries under \HKCU\Software\Htc\TaskManager\
Can Play With It By Changing The Threshold Value In Registry.
Thanks for that, however at < 1-2MB of storage area remaining my problem is how do I recover storage capacity? I used ClearTemp and I now have around 7MB free which is much better though not ideal. Surely there must be a way of tweaking the storage / program balance through one of the toolkits?
I had the same prob few month back. The best way is to Hard reset > reinstall programs your REALLY NEED to internal storage except .net C Framework or Smart Protect etc... [install those types of programs to main memory]
The other way is
Buy SkTools if you dont have it
move things ie. programs to internal storage!
I select internal memory every time I install an app which further mystifies me. Now I can't get Opera to run.... it's just a year of break downs for me

Low internal storage (surprise!)

So I've spent the past day re-searching all over these forums and on the internet trying to find a way to get past the low internal storage issue. From what I've read, I read that it is able to install your applications on your SD, which is what I do. However my internal storage still fills up somehow. So I assumed this is the application's data that cannot be moved from internal to SD.
However, further reading has brought me to partitioning and I tried installing several different ROMs on my Chacha, then using CWN Recovery I partitioned my SD which I thought would result in being able to move applications AND the data completely to the SD partition. However, using Link2SD or App2SD and even Darktremor, my internal memory still keeps filling up.
Am I doing something wrong? Or if all this fails, is there anyway to completely omit the use of the internal storage and run everything from my SD?
The fact I can only install like 6 applications is driving me up the wall. Thank you.
Use SuperOSR with Darktremor.
The only way of getting space back with the stock ROM is by resetting your phone to factory data. Otherwise, use CWM to clear the dalvik-cache when needed.
Hi there.
I found it very frustrating to run quickly out of storage as well.
Since a few weeks I use TitaniumBackup on this application rocks! It allows to move any application and its data to the SD. It even allows to integrate the updates into the ROM. The application is not free but cost only about 50HKD (abt 5EUR) and considering the great job it does it is more than worth it!
Hope this can help.
BR
Really? Titanium Backup does that? Wow, fascinating.

Internal Memory almost full

Nexus S has 1gb of internal memory for apps and other data required. You can also move apps to sd.
My problem is this one: I have only 177mb of internal memory left, and everytime i want to install something from Google Play says it`s not enough memory. I kept the most important apps for me ( ~80-100 apps), most of them moved to sdcard.
What can i do to free up some memory (except deleting other apps) ?
I heard something about creating another partition from sdcard(external-13gb) that phone will consider it`s also internal, but i did not find anything yet on this area.
Do you know anything about this ? Thanks.

"Ghost" Data?

So let's get straight to the point. Two days ago I moved all of my apps to the sd card in order to have enough space to install the newly released FIFA 14.
Had 1.4 gigs of free space on internal memory, but still after downloading it, it said that I had insufficient space available and didn't install it (My LG L9 asks for 200+MB minimal free space to be left), but the problem is that after the failed installation attempt I never got the free space back. Now no matter what I do, I can't get more than 300MB of free space on the internal memory. It was right after I tried to install FIFA... looks like some cached files are still remaining, but the game isn't installed.
Also reinstalled another CM 10.2 rom, but still with a fresh install and no apps at all, had 343MB of free space? dfq?
Hope it's enough info.
Any ideas?
Hi,
I found out (http://phandroid.com/2013/09/24/fifa-14-android/) that FIFA 14 requires 1.3 GB of free space.
You had 1.4GB, LG needs at least 200MB (0.2 GB), so you only have 1.2 GB free - not enough for FIFA 14 that needs 1.3 GB.
It looks like your failed FIFA 14 installation left a lot of junk file behind. It probably downloaded the partial install files to your phone internal memory, and then when the phone detects insufficient memory (LG's 200 MB requirement), the phone refuses to accept anymore, so now you are down to only 300 MB left (LG's safeguard reserve memory requirement).
Use file explorer or Total Commander.
Check your Downloads folders (internal memory and/or sdcard) the unfinished download may be there.
If not, then look at the Temporary folders (temp, tmp). Look for a large file of about 1GB.
If you find the file, delete it and you will regain the free space.
If the above does not work, then the alternative will be a factory reset to bring your phone to its original condition when it left the factory.
Remember to backup your data first (contacts, appointments, files, etc)

1.2gb of space available but cant install apps

Hi, i am tired and stressed from researching, i cannot find a solution to this problem and i have come here for professional help.
The problem, i was going to install a game(32mb) through google play, and when the download finishes i get the insufficient storage message which is weird considering i always watch and keep track of my storage space, so i clear some cache and decide to download and once again i get the message, this time i decide to delete useless stuff via CCleaner lite and delete useless apps, i download again, and no space message again, i checked my total available space and it says 1.2gb
id place some screenshots but i have another problem with phone that makes me unable to browse my phone via usb on pc's or laptops
im going to check this thread every day, i really need the help, thanks in advance.
A few things to keep in mind:
1. I wont keep uninstalling apps, it works but i cant uninstall important ones
2. I already deleted all of the cache. literally every solution i researched told me obvious stuff i have already done
3. I wont uninstall photos or files
4. Remember i have ''1.2gb of available space'' so no need to do any of the above
5. I acknowledge that sometimes phones might prevent you from downloading apps just to save some space for cache and app data
6. I have a sd card(2gb) but my phone doesnt have the option to move apps to external space and i cant force it even through root
7. I have android 4.0.4
8. My phone is rooted, but its kinda broken(''kingo'' root, not to be confused by ''king'' root), every time the phone restarts or turns off something makes the main root app(the ones that grants root permission to other apps) to get corrupted and not start up(crashes on start) making me having to reinstall it using a backup

You have plenty of storage but that doesn't mean you have room for apps because apps are installed in /data partition, there is a difference. You have storage space but only a portion of it is allocated as space for apps, the rest is storage. You can repartition the device to give your /data partition more available space. Do not repartition your device unless you understand exactly what you are doing.

I know, but before i could keep installing apps until i had 200mb of space left for app storage, why would it be different now, i have a total of 2gb internal storage small i know, but still no reason to stop being able of installing apps at 1gb left, makes no sense, and i'll research about repartition carefully if there isnt another good answer to my problem

You might be full of app data from apps you've uninstalled, uninstalled apps can leave data behind, look in your Android/data folder. You might also be storing logs somewhere taking up space.
Have you used any apps to analyze your internal storage? It should tell you everything you have stored there, files sizes and locations.
