Hi, i am tired and stressed from researching, i cannot find a solution to this problem and i have come here for professional help.
The problem, i was going to install a game(32mb) through google play, and when the download finishes i get the insufficient storage message which is weird considering i always watch and keep track of my storage space, so i clear some cache and decide to download and once again i get the message, this time i decide to delete useless stuff via CCleaner lite and delete useless apps, i download again, and no space message again, i checked my total available space and it says 1.2gb
id place some screenshots but i have another problem with phone that makes me unable to browse my phone via usb on pc's or laptops
im going to check this thread every day, i really need the help, thanks in advance.
A few things to keep in mind:
1. I wont keep uninstalling apps, it works but i cant uninstall important ones

My phone is rooted, but its kinda broken(''kingo'' root, not to be confused by ''king'' root), every time the phone restarts or turns off something makes the main root app(the ones that grants root permission to other apps) to get corrupted and not start up(crashes on start) making me having to reinstall it using a backup

You have plenty of storage but that doesn't mean you have room for apps because apps are installed in /data partition, there is a difference. You have storage space but only a portion of it is allocated as space for apps, the rest is storage. You can repartition the device to give your /data partition more available space. Do not repartition your device unless you understand exactly what you are doing.

I know, but before i could keep installing apps until i had 200mb of space left for app storage, why would it be different now, i have a total of 2gb internal storage small i know, but still no reason to stop being able of installing apps at 1gb left, makes no sense, and i'll research about repartition carefully if there isnt another good answer to my problem

You might be full of app data from apps you've uninstalled, uninstalled apps can leave data behind, look in your Android/data folder. You might also be storing logs somewhere taking up space.
Have you used any apps to analyze your internal storage? It should tell you everything you have stored there, files sizes and locations.

It turns out there was an odex files messing with the instalation, when deleted them i could start installing again, sorry for the trouble and thanks for the help!

Refering to this post Apps to SD, I have some doubts.
1. Is this similar to the 2GB inaccessible partition on Nexus S ?
2. Is that partition ext3 ?
3. Do apps get installed directly on that and I don't have to install apps on sd as explained in that post ever ?

I installed lots of apps from market yesterday so thinking of these things as I have read that installing many apps may slow down the phone.

Have you gone to Settings, Applications and checked how much of your internal memory you're actually using? There's a little bar graph at the bottom of the first screen.
I've got over 130 apps installed and still have almost 600mb free. For most users, on the NS, app storage space isn't going to be a concern. We've got 1gb internal for that.
Also, many apps can be pushed to your sdcard without any hacks required.
The old school apps2sd involves repartioning your sdcard, formatting part of it ext4, then creating symlinks to move apps to the sdcard.
Seems like a lot of work unless you're really short of space already.
All partitions on the internal storage space are ext4 or yaffs2...no ext3 on the NS stock,

I wouldn't worry about it until it becomes a problem, if you know what I mean. If you install a lot of BIG game applications that don't let you move to sdcard from the Applications manager, you might start to run out of room, but I've only seen one person in this forum state that he was filling cramped, and he has 300+ apps, including large games if I recall correctly.
Having a bunch of apps installed should not slow down your phone just because they're installed.
If a bunch of them are active in the background either intentionally or not, that might cause some slow down, but it's just not a real problem on Android 2.2+ in my experience.
Android's memory intentionally loads apps up in advance so they're ready and waiting when you want to use them. They usually just sit there using zero cpu until you give them something to do. It is best to avoid TASK KILLERS, they will screw you up more than help you in general.
If you really feel the need to stop certain apps from being loaded automatically at the phone's discretion, there's an app called AutoStarts in the Market that lets you block apps from loading automatically. There are other apps like that one. They require you to be rooted to use them.

I am using a stock ROM on my Inspire 4G. For some time now, I have been getting this message: "Low on space: Phone storage space is getting low." I do have a lot of apps installed, but I have moved every movable app larger than 1MB onto my SD card, and I have continued to get the message. Today I reached the point where I cannot even upgrade an app. I am showing 70.34MB of available space.
I have searched Market for something that would tell me what's using all my storage, but everything I found is limited to external/SD card storage. Can anyone tell me what else I can do to most effectively recover some storage? What are the most likely culprits?

I could be very wrong on this, but from what I understand the internal storage is partitioned in a way that most of it is not usable for general use. I have rooted my phone and switched rooms and I still only have a little over a gig of memory on my phone for apps and such

4gb internal storage on specs and around 1gb is 'usable'.
However, OP's issue is that he's out of internal storage space. I do know that there have been issues with other devices where moving apps to sdcard still left a copy on the internal storage.
OP: Might consider doing a bit of data cleaning rather than app moving.
Even when you move apps to the SD card, it still leaves a little bit of the app in internal. So if you really have a lot of apps, you're going to have to remove something. Unless there is something else wrong. I have around 150 apps installed, with everything that can be put on SD put there, and I have around 650MB still available.
Thanks, everyone, for your replies. I've been really slow getting back to this because I've had other issues I've had to deal with. I did move absolutely every movable app onto the SD card, but it didn't help.
Wolamok, I had assumed I would have to remove some data, but what? I had about 2300 contacts, many of which were duplicates. While I was cleaning them up in Outlook, I decided to delete them ALL from my phone to see what memory I could free up.. A few contacts were repopulated from social media, but only 60 or 70. However, I 'me still out of of memory and getting notifications, and I still can't so much as upgrade an app.
I feel really stupid, because on my Pocket PCs and Windows Mobile devices, I knew exactly where to look for data and what to remove, but I feel totally lost here.
I don't even know which apps to uninstall, because I don't know which ones have left pieces around in internal memory and how much.
Any more ideas, anyone?

I forgot to mention that while I appreciated the Diskview suggestion, I can't get it to run. I don't know if you my memory is too low to even do that, but it says it's analyzing the SD card and never finishes.

Whenever you uninstall an app, be sure to clear cache and data for it first. And force stop it if that option isn't grayed out. Then there shouldn't be any remnants of it.
When you go into manage applications, you should be able to get an idea of where the most storage is being used. The amount that is listed for each app is only internal storage if you're on the "downloaded" or "all" tabs. So even if an app is on the SD card, what's listed is how much internal storage it is using.
Bottom line is, if you're hurting for storage, uninstall anything you don't really use. Even all those free Amazon games. You can always reinstall them in the future. Hope that helps to give you an idea of what's hogging storage.

Thanks a lot for the reply. By the time I saw it, I had already gotten so frustrated I had followed you advice in advance. I deleted all the apps I'd installed and was going to try out "some day"--and yes, that included all the free Amazon games I'd never played!
I was surprised to see how much space was being used by apps that supposedly were on the SD card.
I hadn't thought of clearing cache and data, and I guess I'm too late for that now, but I'll definitely keep that in mind for the future.

So I have cleared out lots of Photos and music and stuff. Cleared caches. Moved stuff to SD etc. Still keeps happening.
So while connected to my PC by USB, I ran "Treesize" on it, and it tells me that I have 9.87Gb free. What is the problem?
Of the few Gigabytes that are used, by far the biggest folder is called "DCIM", I know that this is where pictures are stored, but I have cleared out loads of photos. The largest file in there is called " thumbdata", at 966Mb by far the largest file on the entire phone. What is this waste of space? Can I delete it?
It seems that whenever I take a pic. with my phone, it is stored there, then a little while later a second copy appears thanks to Google upload or something, but the new copy is not as high res as the original. I do want Google to upload my photos back to my PC, but why does it have to send them back to the phone? How do I stop this? I spend too much time deleting copies of pics that are already on the phone in original. I think that the thumbnails folder is a result of all this.

how many apps in your device? u can check your remaining storage at setting>apps>downloaded...if the remaining is under 100mb...u need to delete some apps to update some apps...

I have 51 countable icons for apps, 102 in the list of "All apps." which includes all sorts of android stuff.
Under "downloaded" (36 apps) internal storage shows 784Mb used, 224Mb free.
Under USB it shows 3.4Gb used, 9.9Gb free. Aha! so that's what Treesize is looking at.
I get it, my 1Gb of internal storage is being used up. I will try and move more apps to USB.
Is that it?
also check your system partition, google apps often go there, if you're not rooted you wont be able to free space on it, the system partition is about 500MB large so it gets easily filled up, it contains your android rom and system apps

Apparently there are a lot of people who have looked for help on this issue in various forms, so googling all day and looking around has not helped.
I have Android 4.0.4 and a Pantech Burst that has been rooted. I downloaded Titanium Backup and removed some programs that were perma installed by the manufacturer. I backed them up before I did this. Now the system drive shows I have a bunch of space free, 326MB out of 1GB. Using other apps I am not sure. "Drives" shows two internal storages "Data" which has 681MB used and 326MB free and "System" which has 464MB used and 77MB free. I assume these are both the internal partition.
Trying to install anything from the Play Store results in a 'insufficient space' except for some really small apps. Since I don't know exactly how much space I have to work with, I can only guess. Uninstalling some apps normally doesn't allow me to install new ones either. Sometimes the phone will just eat the space.
I tried restoring a app with Titanium Backup and it seems to have worked, however the app is no longer in my normal system 'apps' utility. So I can't modify it or uninstall it anymore.
The apps aren't backed up to the system storage, they're on external storage.
I tried clearing the dalvik cache and system cache, this didn't help or do anything.
Any sort of help would be great.

That's not really what's wrong. I'm not too familiar with android, but I'm pretty sure my volumes aren't reporting deleted space that is actually free. I tried a program like CleanMaster to try and fix it as well as App Cache Cleaner, but they haven't seemed to help even though they reported that they fixed quite a few things initially.
It seems like whenever I uninstall something if I go through the system and look at apps, it shows more free space available. However when I try to install something new, it still says 'insufficient space'. Somehow the free space is not being freed up or marked as free for the system.
I almost want to say Titanium Backup is not giving the freespace back to the system and is instead just marking it as free, but not for the system. If that makes sense. So the system can't use it.
I can use Titanium Backup to restore apps even though the system says I have insufficient storage when I try to reinstall them. I shouldn't be able to do this without free space available. However when I do this I can't see it in the market or in the normal settings > apps on the system and in order to reintegrate it I need the pro version of Titanium Backup. I think TB isn't playing nice with the rest of the system in order to get you to buy a pro version of it.

I'm having issues with my Redmi Note 7 Pro (rooted and running MIUI 10). I can't install any large apps from the Google Play Store or even APKs using other app stores like Qooapp or APKPure. The problem seems to pop up only when I try to install large games like Call of Duty Mobile, Vainglory, PUBG or Arena of Valor. I've been able to install other small apps and even games where the large file downloads occur INSIDE the game itself, like Dragalia Lost, Another Eden and Raid: Shadow Legends without any issues. It is only when I attempt to install a large game (usually +1gb) that I see this problem. Whenever I try installing through the Google Play Store, the download happens normally and then the installation fails silently when the download progress bar reaches 100%. And whenever I try using APKPure, for instance, I get a message saying "IO error. Not enough space available for instalation", even though I've got about 100gb of space left in my internal memory.
I've searched online and seen some people recommending clearing the cache memory of the Google Play Store app and Google Play Services, uninstalling any updates on the Google Play Store, rebooting my device, etc., since the problem could be caused by a lack of enough cache memory available to install the file, but these solutions didn't help me at all. I hope someone can help me troubleshoot and fix this issue

Was the available memory enough then?
Close any apps other than Play Store or APKPure while installing those game apps. Have a try.

Thanks for the reply! Sorry, this solution didn't help either. I closed every app other than the Google Play Store and tried installing COD Mobile again. I got the same problem. The download goes up to 100% and then silently fails.
I don't know if this is relevant, but when I try installing through the Play Store, the download goes up to 100% and then fails showing a message that says "Waiting for Wi-Fi," even though I am downloading from my Wi-Fi connection already. When I tap the button to download anyway, it downloads again all the way up to 100% and then fails and gets stuck at 7%. This is very confusing
If I try installing through APKPure, it'll just show the same "Not enough space available" message.

No, that didn't work either. I got the same result, the download goes all the way up to 100% ad then fails.

Yes, any other small apps I've had no issues with (the Reddit and Amazon Shopping apps are a couple of examples).
And as mentioned, even games that show as a smaller-sized file on the Play Store but include a much larger download ingame (like Raid: Shadow Legends, which shows as 92mb on the Play Store but requires a 600~800mb download on startup) have worked without any issues. It's only the large apps that fail upon installation.

The large games are failing because the apps are downloaded in cache and then installed in your /data partition, not your internal storage.
It doesn't matter how much internal storage space you have, what matters is how much space your /data partition has, you don't have enough space in your /data partition to install the large apps, you also might not have enough space in your cache partition to properly download and install the apps.
The reason why the apps that download additional data inside the game are working like they should is because the apps themselves are installed in /data partition and they install just fine because you have enough space in /data partition. But the additional data that is downloaded inside the game does not install to the /data partition, it is installed/stored in your Android/data folder in your internal storage, you have plenty of internal storage so it installs without conflict.
One way to get the large apps to install is to delete some of the apps that you installed to clear some space in /data partition, if you clear enough space, you can install a large app with no issue.
Or, you can try repartitioning your device to increase the size of your /data partition.

Thanks for the reply. I tried deleting a bunch of apps and ended up getting rid of about 2gb worth of data. Unfortunately, that still didn't do the trick I could delete some more, but those are apps I'd actually like to keep.
Do you know how this repartitioning process works? Is it complicated to do? I'm a little bit scared of messing with the flash memory of the phone, it was actually a (more knowledgeable) friend of mine who rooted the phone for me. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I started looking a little bit into this and I read somewhere that perhaps getting an SD card and moving the data of some other apps from the data partition to the SD card partition might release enough space for the large apps to install without issues. Does this sound at all feasible? That would free me from having to mess with things that could potentially brick my phone.

Do you know how this repartitioning process works? Is it complicated to do? I'm a little bit scared of messing with the flash memory of the phone, it was actually a (more knowledgeable) friend of mine who rooted the phone for me. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

I believe the Magisk framework has a module that can do that for you, I'm not familiar with how it used though.

I haven't been able to find anything about a Magisk module that would help me do that. I'll keep looking though. Also, any clue if the SD card idea I mentioned earlier would be a fix at all? Or that isn't really how this works?

Actually, it is possible to install your apps directly to external sdcard, the drawback to that is you sacrifice a bit of performance because running apps from external is slower than if the app was internally installed.
Another possible option is to use the Adoptable Storage option, it is designed to format your external memory as internal memory so that the device sees internal and external as one continuous "drive", so to speak. I wouldn't recommend using Adoptable Storage though because if the external sdcard gets corrupted it results in a non-working device that has to be recovered and you'll most likely lose your saved data.
Finding a mod that allows installing your apps to external is the better, safer option. It might be a bit slower than installing to internal, but it's easier to fix issues if something goes wrong.

Thanks a lot for the guidance. I'll look more into both the SD memory option and the repartitioning option and I'll post another message once I find the solution (hopefully soon). Nonetheless, I can't help but wonder what could've caused this. Is this a problem that all devices have? Or could it be linked to the rooting process?

I can't say for certain, things are different from one device to the next, you never know what kind of bugs are gonna happen.
Android is inconsistent, you could have different devices experiencing the same issue but they may not have the same cause. There can also be an issue that has a known solution on "this" device or "this" android version but the same solution doesn't work on "that" device or "that" android version. As they say, your mileage may vary.
Try asking in your device specific forum if there is one here for your device, or, try asking in another thread for this device that deals with rooting or a thread that deals with a similar issue to yours. You may get better answers from members that own the same device or members that have experienced the same issue.
