[Theme] Hero Bootscreen - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

This is a bootscreen I made for any AOSP ROM users who use metamorph.
Simply copy the .zip file to a folder named AndroidThemes in your sdcard then use metamorph from there.
Basically, it's the same "Hero" text from the stock bootscreen that comes with the phone, but without the little-Android-running-around-animation (you can't use .gifs in AOSP ROMs) and it has the logo shine behind it. Try it out and see for yourself!
Attached is an image and a .zip
Enjoy
P.S. In the image I attached the reflection looks a bit pixelated/fuzzy, but in real life it doesn't look like that (you can barely see it). It looks like that because the image that it takes from the phone is actually bigger than the phone itself. So don't worry.

thanks for this. Has totally completed my hero look i have on the cyanogen rom i'm running right now!

Thanks, worked great on quietcblong's 1.6

[MOD] Android Battery Icons [Metamorph]

Please delete this thread.
Im keeping this on my phone forever!
how do you get this to work it aborted when flashing in recovery??
Okay here's the thing. It's not flashing in recovery because you are missing the update-script (usually found under a few subfolders within the meta-inf folder. take a look at someone elses update.zip (for anything, theme, rom, some of my keyboard themes etc) and you should find what I'm talking about.
Second problem, the framework-res.apk you provided contains only your changes. Had this successfully flashed, you'd now be boot looping as your framework-res.apk would be jacked up.
I took your images and made them into a morph (hope you don't mind, I put your name on the "author" line). I just applied it via metamorph and it's working great!
Benefit to this is it *should* be cross rom compatible, and shouldn't need any updates (whereas if you built a true update.zip that contained all of framework-res.apk, you'd have to update it every time it changed and release different versions for different roms).
Feel free to grab this attachment and throw it on first post!
remember, it's a metamoprh, you must have metamorph from the market to apply it!

Right now unfortunately you can't flash through recovery yet.
I am hoping to have a fix for that later tonight.
See post above. You can now use this with Metamorph thanks to gIMpSTa.
LOL....
This is great!
One thing though, can you make it a bit more discernable for us colour blinds?
hmmm I posted this on the MORPH thread yesterday!

If you want to get a mod to delete my post and put yours in there that would be fine by me.
I have no idea how to delete this off my captivate. I reset my phone, format internal sd and reflashed the unleashthebeast rom. Please help me. Its still there! I want the original battery icon back

[THEME] [HELP] Working on a modded theme, running into problems.

Everything seems to work fine so far, but I've hit a snag.
Here's what happens. I've made some changes to my rom. I'm on modaco's latest, I have theme with the battery percentage mod installed (can't remember which), but everything runs perfectly with no hiccups or hangups.
The problem I'm running into is with the battery icons.
Here's what I do.
1) Pull framework-res.apk from device(to keep my changes)
2) Pull battery icons from framework-res
3) Modify icons
4) Put icons back into framework-res
5) Push framework-res back to device
As soon as I push this back to the device, everything starts force-closing. Phone, gmail, launcher, contacts...everything.
I've made changes like this before and this has never happened. Am I doing something wrong here? Any help would be appreciated. I would like to eventually release this as a theme that people can flash.
try pushing the modded files while in recovery...
..never pushed framework-res.apk.
In recovery sounds good..
But why not makin a morph?..or you could do an update.zip.
i am assuming you rebooted after pushing the new framework-res.apk across?
Did you zipalign before pushing? I know CM zipaligns on boot after changes in recovery but can't remember for stuffed pushed across- i either just zipalign it myself or the easiest and best thing to do is what rori~ said- just make a metamorph- that way when the rom gets updated you dont have to change anything at all (assuming there are no xml changes)..
eg. i have been using the same CM metamorph theme i made since about 5.0.X and it still works on every nightly- i have had tyo remove xml edits etc as CM now does that itself but it makes it all so easy.
instead of using adb, try doing it the easy way with Metamorph. Basically you'll need to create custom pngs with the same name as the ones you want to replace in the framework-res.apk.
So get a copy of your framework-res.apk and rename it to .zip and unzip it. Erase all the folders where you have no custom images to push. You'll prob just end up with some nested folders like "framework-res-->res-->drawable-hdpi" or a similar last folder. Place the custom images in there, then just reuse this attached xml file, making sure to change the pertinent information such as the file structure to be the correct path so the images push to the correct folder when you apply it with Metamorph. Be sure to save the xml file with a reasonable name, then zip the xml and framework-res folder containing your custom images together. Make sure the zip has the same name as the xml file only with .zip extension or you may get an error.
From there install Metamorph. Load the zip you created onto your sd card inside the "android themes" folder. Launch Metamorph, grant su, then "unzip new theme", and "apply all".
Hope this is helpful. A bit longer than I pictured it, but easy to do. If you run into trouble just DL a couple ones other people did and it should become easier to figure out.

Ultimate One Click Theme Injector (Teaser 1/15) Screenies... Need some feed back!

New Ultimate Version
I'm looking for some feed back and interest in a gui version of this app, below are some screnshots. Currently I have written interfaces for Optipng, Apktool, ADK, Z7a and a buncha other theming tools. Think of this new version as a way to manage your themes and roms in a workspace like setting, where files will show up in a explorer like ui.
Please ask questions and make suggestions Please!
READ THIS FIRST:
UPDATE 9 PATCH TWEAKS:
This new version will port your favorite hdpi theme to an mdpi rom... yes 9 patch resizing. I want to be the first to say this is not 100% and it probably never will be, and over the next couple of days we can discuss this.
What it will do is resize every 9 patch in a rom and move it over to the mdpi theme. Yes this is the same method I used for all my hdpi ports.
What it might not get is the 9 patching data correctly, which means that it might get stretched incorrectly, most times you won't noticed but others it will be obvious. This will happen anywhere from 1% to 30% of the 9 patch pngs in a port, but all you will need to do is redraw them using the 9 patch draw tool in the adb folder.
Please respect other peoples work. If you port a theme using this and repost it don't just link back to the op... mention the author and give them props.
Also want to say I spent a looooong time trying to figure this out, and I tried many different ways, and I'm open to others suggestion on making this better
Oh and don't forget to to install Image Magick, its included and the HDPI to MDPI will not work without this.
This tool will take your favorite theme and inject it into your favorite rom... provided they are compatible with each other (might work if they aren't but thats for later). I did this cause alot of themers and people who like themes are always waiting for the nightly theme to get applied, well this will do it for you.
You can think of this as almost a theme installer.
INSTRUCTIONS by Norm12:
1. Download and extract.
1.5 Install image magick from the image magick folder... just run the installer and its ready to go. This is important the hdpi to mdpi will not work without it.
2. Copy both the theme and rom into the 1 click folder---the extracted one.
3. Open the 1-click folder and you should see your theme, rom, lib folder, and the injector script.
4. Doubleclick on the injector script----if you did everything correct it will open a cmd prompt
5. Enter the names of the rom and theme when asked...I did use the exact names and added ".zip" to the end.
5.5 Answer y if this is an hdpi to mdpi port otherwise n.
6. Hit enter and wait. When it is really done it will auto-close the cmd prompt. This may take 15 minutes.
7. Your newly themed rom will be in the same folder as the unthemed rom and theme zips. If it worked it should be slightly larger than the original rom. Enjoy
!!!IMPORTANT... BECAUSE 7ZIP SHOWS OUTPUT IGNORE THE "EVERYTHING IS OK" LET THE SCRIPT FINISH WHEN ITS DONE IT WILL CLOSE ITSELF IF YOU DOUBLE CLICKED IT OR IT WILL RETURN TO COMMAND PROMPT!!!
Ignore any errors your seeing while it runs, this is normal like before let it run completely through till it closes out.
Run time could be up too 20 minutes (60 with HDPI to MDPI) on a big theme/rom, but faster that waiting!
You must now install Image Magick if you would like to use the hdpi to mdpi resizing!
ISSUES:
There also seems to be an issue with the gallery3d.apk and the differences in the mdpi and hdpi version. For now remove this from the theme your porting otherwise it won't come out right.
Update 4:
HDPI to MDPI porting!!!!!
Update 3:
Removed verbose but added optopng verbose just let it run. It works but you have to let it finish, the cmd window will close it self.
Update 2:
Added verbose output so that you guys will know to close it out before its done...even tho 7zip says everything is ok... just let it do its thing.
Update 1:
Had the optimization stuff commented out... sorry its back on.
Script will clean up now after it finishes.
JAVA CLASSPATH:
Its needed for the signer to work properly goto a command prompt and type in java -version. if you get and error back java is not in your classpath and needs to be.
just right click on my computer, then goto properties, then click on the advanced tab, at the bottom click on the "Environment Variable" button.
Now click on the new button... the one on the bottom for system variable and put in this
variable name: JAVA_HOME
variable value: C:\<path-to-where-java-is>
Now click ok and select the path system variable and then click edit. IMPORTANT only append to the end of the value this... ;%JAVA_HOME%\bin
then click ok and ok out of all those windows and open a new command prompt and type java -version you should get no error if you do your path to java was wrong follow the steps above again and make sure the path is correct.
WHAT THIS WON'T DO:
It won't port over xml or smali edits.
It wont port over what it can't find... so if your theme has a facebook widget or something but the rom does not then it will ignore that.
It will not port over fonts or anything other than the framework-res.apk and all the themes apks in the system/app folder. If this is popular Maybe other stuff can get included.
WHAT THIS WILL DO:
Shrink a 9 patch from HDPI size to MDPI size.
Push over all the themes pngs from the apk with it to the roms matching apk.
Optimize every png in the theme you are porting over.
Zip align all the apks in your newly themed rom.
Sign the newly themed rom.
Give me feed back.
I might make this easier and make the injector steal the apks for injection right from your phone and then inject and make a flashable to put right back on... tell me what you think.

What does yours do that this one doesn't do? I'm just curious because this one will re-size the png's.

well it optos and zip aligns annnd it signs all in one step. while I have looked at that one a while back it has been buggy (it might not now haven't really checked).
So while this isn't necessarily a porter per say. its one step and alot easier to use than that, and it does the extras like zip aligning all the apks, optos and signing. Your finished product is ready to be flashed.
Its your choice!
Edit:
While I do have a technique for doing hdpi to mdpi even the 9ptach, its buggy and reallies on assumptions.
I know for a fact that his does not work (or barely works just read the thread) for hdpi to mdpi and is over all very tricky to use. While mine does not include the hdpi to mdpi I might include that later to my one click suite of tools. But I can tell you 9 ptach porting is likely impossible at best mine will port a 9patch but in about 5-15% of the time is gets bad patch data because of the method I use to port it.... witch I can tell you is the only way you can do it.
Mine will also work across roms and if you guys want I'll put the theme porting code in even the 9patch resizing... so you guys can se my super secret method of porting 9patch pngs.

No, I didn't find this until after I ported Black and Gold. Would of been very helpful if I had used it. This doesn't re-size the .9's but it does port them over. I have been using it to put theimpailers changes into the nightly though.
Well try it out and tell me if you think his is easier to use... i made it specially for making nightlies easier to theme.
Does his zip align and optimize... does it produce a final flashable product? All mine needs are the 2 zips (theme and rom names) and the rest is done.

hold on let me try and see what happened give me a few minutes.
Edit:
So it never got to bootanimation?
Were you going to this rom from another?
How long did you wait for it at the splash screen.
The reason I ask is that this will only push over pngs and shouldn't in anyway affect the rom, save for the new pngs. The only thing I can think of is that you might want to wipe dalvik and data before if your coming from another rom.
I let it sit for bout 10 mins.. etc. then just nand back.
im currently running dd 2.8.
so after it compiled the new theme zip.. i just copied it to my sd card and flashed it..
unless im missing something etc.
So basicly u take the theme.zip and the rom.zip.. tell your script the locations. etc. and then it does its thing..
then take the theme.zip ( before renaming it ) and flash that. correct?
Im gonna try another theme and see what happens...

Ok not sure if you got it backwards but just in case. The script will take the theme and the rom and push the theme into the rom. the final output will be the rom with this appended to the front of the name... themed-darchdroid-v28.zip and that you can flash to your system. You don't need to rename or anything just put themed-darchdroid-v28.zip on your sdcard and flash it to your system.
I can check when I get home and see what happens when I flash it since I don't have my hero on me.
here is whats in the folder once its complete..

oh it seems to be failing then, since the theme.zip and rom.zip are temporary and used by the script to make changes on.
Try this, copy darchdroid-v28.zip into the folder and sme6_signed.zip into the folder then run the script and give those names when asked for them.
The final output should be "themed-darchdroid-v28.zip" I just ran it and the resulting rom looks fine... I can test it of course but will try when I get home.
ok will try that. thanks man.. brb..
All I get are the theme.zip and rom.zip, never outputs the final product. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

hmm not sure why... been using this script for months now. Try this
1. copy your rom into the folder.
2. copy your theme into the folder.
3. tell the script the names (i.e. my-theme.zip, cm6.zip)
4. let script run.
Final output should be themed-<nameofrom>.zip this is your flashable.
How long after the "everything is ok" message appears does it take to complete?
Maybe i'm just not be patient enough
tried your method.. and like the above.
theme.zip and rom.zip, never outputs the final product
im stumped....lol maybe I will try on my pc at home.

[Theme] Cyanogen7 ColorMOD

Cyanogen 7.1.0 Final ColorMOD + Nightlies
I have spent several hours/days/weeks compiling a simple yet powerfully awesome ColorMOD for Cyanogen7. I would not call this a "Theme" by any stretch of the imagination as all I wanted was some gosh-darned COLOR in my ROM aside from the puke-green of Gingerbread.
I pulled icons from about 7 different theme-packs, I edited a crapton of them in photoshop, and some of them I made myself. I did *NOT* add color icons to the google apps for several reasons, the largest of which is that modifying them can cause them to not update.
If you see any glitches, or an icon I missed please holler at me here and I will fix it immediately. I try to stay on top of the nightly builds as best I can but whatever.
I started this MOD as a request from a friend of mine, and figured it was really nice and maybe some of you out there would like to run it.
I am seriously struggling with the new Theme engine, so this is a .zip flashable that overwrites your default system theme. Other theme packs will of course still work perfectly.

I've been making changes slowly and subtly but I figured it was high and time to make a change-log seeing as I plan to keep this updated due to its popularity.
Changelog:
Added color birthday icon & changed the profile icon when holding down power button (the other one looked out of place)
Added colored icon for the screenshot option when holding down the power button
Changed the vertical color bar from yucky orange to awesome BLUE~!
Updated the WiFi Icon, embossed & changed the single dot to RED when theres no signal
Updated the 4G Icon in the notification bar with ones made by member "Vegasden"
Updated the system Font from ubuntu10.10 to ubuntu, makes scrolling text less laggy and looks the same
Updated window animations to the "Fly-IN" method. Very smooth, very cool.
To Do:
Make the notifications in the drop-down bar transparent (looks like butthole, gonna try and just inverse the colors)
Convert what I can to a theme manager .apk file (WIP, maybe never, Im having issues/lack of help)

TUTORIAL
===========================================================
If you want to modify this theme, use its pictures, make your own themes, distribute whatever, here is my "method" for creating this color modification. Download the files below and lets play "follow-along"

ColorMOD Template Package

Download the last previous version of the ColorMOD
Links above
Know how to use Adobe Photoshop
Have a good zip program for opening .apk files (I use 7zip)
_
Step 1:
Download & Extract the latest Cyanogen ROM to a folder on your computer
Download & Extract the latest ColorMOD to a folder on your computer
Download & Extract the Cyanogen7_ColorMOD_Template to a folder on your computer
Step 2:
Rename the ColorMOD folder to reflect the new version number i.e. rename "Cyanogen7-rc4_ColorMOD(stock)" ~> "Cyanogen7-n36_ColorMOD(stock)"
Open folder from the latest ROM & the latest ColorMOD side-by-side
Navigate down to the \system\app folder on both
Notice that the ROM has several dozen apk files, and the ColorMOD has only 5
In the ROM folder, grab the 5 .apk files that you see in the ColorMOD folder
Contacts.apk
Mms.apk
Phone.apk
Settings.apk
SystemUI.apk
Move them into the ColorMOD folder overwriting the 5 that are in there, this way you have the latest versions of them directly from the ROM
Step 3:
Navigate both folders to \system\framework
Open the website
http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/
Navigate to the "File Upload" tab
Under "framework-res.apk"
Choose "Select File"
Upload the "framework-res.apk" from the ROM folder
You will now see a progress bar that it is uploading
When it says "Complete"
Click on the tab that says "Windows Animation"
For ColorMOD I use "Flying"
Check the box that says "Use this mod" and click the radio button that says "Flying"
Click on the tab that says "Battery"
Check "Use this mod"
Click on the option that says "SCB with %"
This allows you to use 1% battery increments
Pick ANY option, it doesnt matter, we will be overwriting the battery image files anyways
Click on "Summary" Tab
You will now see three items in green
-Battery
-Windows Animation
-File upload
Click on "Submit work to kitchen" and wait approx 10 minutes.
It will now prepare the framework-res.apk for you that you will be using for the finishing touches on the ColorMOD. You use this kitchen because it prepares all of the REALLY hard stuff for you, such as editing XML files to allow 1% battery and flying in window animations. You can actually just save the xml files it modifies and use them going forward so your not impacting the website, but for this tutorial were going through all the steps from scratch.
Step 4:
Download the file you just "cooked" and save it into your working folder
Open the zip file, it will start with UOT, and extract the framework-res.apk file from it
Now take the "framework-res.apk" file, and OVERWRITE the one in your ColorMOD folder in \system\framework
Step 5:
You are now ready to overwrite the stock image files (nasty green piles of puke) with your beautiful and glorious colorized ones.
Most of this has been prepped for you so it is now SUPER easy. Getting the apk files over and the framework prepared are the hard parts. Now its really just a matter of drag/drop.
Open the ColorMOD template folder side-by-side to the working ColorMOD folder
You will notice that in the \system\app folder you have .apk files that match the FOLDER names in the template folder
Now, simply open the .apk file (I use 7zip), and its corresponding folder in the template
Drag and drop, overwriting all the files when it prompts you
Once you have done that for all of the .apk files in \system\app
Open the \system\framework folder and repeat the same process
Step 6:
You have now replaced every puke-green picture and black & white nonsense with glorious color
Now you need to zip it, sign it, and flash it. Ill show you how to customize it a little bit first
-Close all your folders now except the ColorMOD folder, you are done with the ROM and Template now.
Go to the root so all you see is "META-INF" & "system"
Dig all the way down to \Cyanogen7-n36_ColorMOD(stock)\META-INF\com\google\android
Open the "updater-script" file (I use notepad2)
This should look familiar. Its where you can customize the messages that are played out while flashing the zip file
I shouldnt have to tell you, but dont F*CK with the stuff that doesnt say "ui_print" You have probrably flashed this enough times to know what shows up on the screen and what doesnt. The stuff that doesnt show up, is the stuff that is actually telling the system how to flash the zip file. Anyways, change it up a little, remove my name, put your own ascii art in there, do whatever you want - save/close
You may have also noticed some extra folders in there that we didnt discuss here, "fonts" & "media" ~> Well open them up, the fonts is what replaces your system font with ubuntu10 font, and media is where the bootanimation is located, as well as a few ringtones/notifications I put onto your phone when you flash. You can replace the files in here with whatever you want, add your own bootanimation, dump some ringtones, change the system font etc. When your all done having fun...
-Head back to the root folder so all you see is "META-INF" & "system"
select both folders and zip them up like so
Step 7:
IMPORTANT
-Do NOT flash this if you have modified ANYTHING in the TEMPLATE!!! (This includes ringtones/notifications/etc)
IMPORTANT
You can technically now flash this file, it is signed and ready to go, however, if you modified ANYTHING from the template at all you need to re-sign the file. Signing the file generates a "manifest" of every file that is included in the archive, if you add or remove a file, you need to resign the archive or it will completely bork on install.
To sign files easily, you MUST have the android-sdk installed, I would assume that most of you have this but if not download and install it.
Extract the auto-sign file you downloaded from the top and put the files in the \android\tools folder (android being the folder of your sdk installation)
You will see a beautiful and wonderful .bat file called autosign.bat -YAY!
Move your .zip file to a location that has ZERO spaces in the path. If you have a space the bat file will hang and freeze
To make things easy just put it on the root of your c: drive or something and make sure the zip file name has ZERO spaces
Double check that the patch and file name has ZERO spaces, if your not sure, put it on the root of the c drive and name the file like "a.zip"
Open the autosign.bat file
Choose option (4) Sign files manually
now type the path of your colormod, for example c:\a.zip
Hit enter
If it reads
File signed successfully if no Errors above.
Your good
Step 8:
Copy the zip file to your phone and flash it
Your a god-damned champ! Pat yourself on the back.
Looks like a winner to me! Ty for sharing.

This is Specifically for Nightly 22 (I put that at the very top of the post)
You will need to re-flash rc1, or I would HIGHLY reccomend moving to nightly 22 as it fixes several issues like the gps/wifi/hotspot/ and misc kernel fixes.
here is a link to nightly22, once you flash that it should boot up fine (remember to wipe your cache before upgrading.... no need to wipe data though).
Once you boot up fine, THEN reflash the colormod and you will be happy!!!

NOTE: if you want to stay on RC1 for whatever reason, just download the RC1 mixer theme from this thread, it should get you out of your bootloop

Like i said, I made the theme for a friend, that is the sword in the forest from zelda game series.
I can darken it up quite a bit or remove it all togethor and do a dark gradient for everyone here. Ill post up some pics later and see what everyone likes.
_______
The screenshots are hosted on my website but I can dump them over to photobucket if anyone else is having issues.

Cyanogen 7 Nightly 22 ColorMOD
I have spent several hours/days/weeks compiling a simple yet powerfully awesome ColorMOD for Cyanogen7. I would not call this a "Theme" by any stretch of the imagination as all I wanted was some gosh-darned COLOR in my ROM aside from the puke-green of Gingerbread.
I pulled icons from about 7 different theme-packs, I edited a crapton of them in photoshop, and some of them I made myself. I did *NOT* add color icons to the google apps for several reasons, but meh.
Oh and one final thing, the battery only ticks off in increments of 5. I wouldnt mind doing 1% ticks but I dont know how to edit the .xml files that control how often it pulls the battery image. If any of you have insight, well.... awesome! Drop me a PM.
Anyways heres the snaps, download will be attached at the bottom.
And Finally, the Download (Please note this is for Cyanogen 7 Nightly 22)

Well, believe it or not, this is the only reason why I use cm7 now, I never liked the no color menus, unlike sense.. You did some awesome work here, thanks a million, and deeply appreciate how you keep up with the nightlys... Thanks again

Will there be a theme chooser apk?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Waiting for the update for nightly 26! You can probably flash the .zip for 25 over it I assume but I will wait for the new .zip. really does look great, maybe try getting in touch with the developer of the honeybread theme to get your theme into theme chooser!!
Seems like a dirty version of the mixer theme...
Looks great. I like how it isn't overpowering yet you changed enough things that it sticks out in a clean detailed way.

Yes, I did borrow from Mixer, some from Urban, some from a cm6 mod in their hack forum called "colorized". I photoshopped up all the stuff that was still orange, to the blues on "Hue change" (dark blue is +175 and light blue is +155). I also had an old color icon pack on my computer Scramble that I took some from. And a few I just took the b/w versions, embossed them in photoshop, then changed them to RGB color and hue shifted them till i got the color I was looking for. Its not a unique work to be sure, but I think that its a nice blending of the many themes found here on XDA. I did add some noticeable "personalized" touches, like the zelda themed call screen and the bootanimation. I even snuck in some rings/notification sounds if you didnt notice. But overall Im happy with it.
Thank you for the feedback, im glad you are all finding it as useful as me.
Once the final revision of Cyanogen 7 releases, I am going to post up the template Im working from and a quick & dirty "how-to" so you guys can all tweak and modify it however you like.
Also, I spoke with the gentlemen that makes the mixer theme, and he pointed me to a site that is helping me get the 1% battery increments implemented so stay tuned for that!

[How To] Activate Overscroll in all GB Sense Roms

Hey guys, was reading through the threads today and noticed a few comments where people got confused weather overscroll is in the new GB OTA roms or not.
The answer to that is yes. The overscroll has been in ALL GB roms since the beginning, including GB Sense roms.
We could never see them in the HTC Sense Gingerbread roms though because HTC hid them(not removed them) by changing the color to black and then Indexing them.
So where are they?
They are located in an apk called framework-res.apk. This apk is located in the system/framework folder of your rom. You can get the apk from your rom by doing one of a few things.
1.
Code:
adb remount
adb pull /system/framework/ framework-res.apk
2. Use the Root Explorer app to copy the apk from your system/framework folder and paste it on your SD Card and then just transfer it to your computer.
3. Using 7Zip, extract the apk from your original rom zip while its on your computer, if you originally downloaded it to your computer.
Extract framework-res.apk and navigate to framework-res\res\drawable-hdpi.
Look for these two images: overscroll_edge.png and overscroll_glow.png. Thats the overscroll images. Also look at any of these new OTA GB roms and you'll see what I mean by HTC has blacked them out. Kinda messed up huh?
How to make them colored?
Using a program such as gimp, open the images and change them from 'indexed' mode to 'rgb' mode and then just change the hue to whatever you like.
After that's done just open the original framework-res.apk and drag and drop your new custom overscroll images in to their proper folder. See? very simple.
or...
Grab the framework-res out of a CM GB rom and grab those same images above and toss them into your framework-res.apk
After you've made your changes just do one of these to put the framework-res.apk back into your rom.
1.
Code:
adb remount
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/
2. Drop the apk into a pre-made flashable zip that you know installs to system/framework and flash through recovery.
Easy huh?

Well you can extract with 7Zip. And yea just pushing it back in with adb is probably the best way unless your good with flashables.
Edit: You want to know how to get that framework-res.apk? Just pull it out of your rom using Root Explorer or extract it from the actual rom zip that you downloaded in the first place. Its located in system/framework.
ok...i figured that part out...
now when in gimp i cant seem to see any color change...
all i see is the grayscale blocks and a black stripe(edge) or curved part(glow)
i dont see what any of the color change options are doing...
and so you know, i dont know crap about image editing...cant ya tell??
EDIT- thats exactly what i did...dropbox to the computer and now im stuck...lol

Ok do this:
Open the image in gimp. Go to the tool bar at the top and hit image. Do you see 'Mode'? Select that and then change to rgb mode. You'll notice how the image goes from blockish to blurry. Now you can edit your colors
Just play with colorize and brightness until you get what you want.
it doesnt do that... stays blocked when i do that

Ah ok I see what your saying. You can still do any color you want. Just make sure the image is in rgb mode and then pick whatever color you want and choose the largest blurry brush and draw a straight line across the top of the image. Look at my example below. You can even use my example if you want.
Do the same thing for the over glow edge. Just use a normal brush and only color the top of the image. About two pixels should be good. Again look at my example.
And if that isn't working for you, just grab the images out of a CM rom and just change the color on them to whatever you like.
feel a little dumb here but what exactly is over scroll?
is it when you are scrolling and get to the end and you see the color flash over briefly, like you are bumping into a momentary light switch...?

So I just pushed my framework-res.apk right down over the orig and rebooted and that worked.
But I suspect there is a reason why you want to install it via a zip right?
Not trying to be annoying, but more to learn and actually understand this wonderful world of Android.
Otherwise, I really do like the over-scroll.. Especially when I am browsing folders using Root Explorer and NOT viewing by alphabetical but file size for instance.
Thank you for sharing this information wildstang83!

Well just that some people are more comfortable flashing vs actually adb pushing stuff.
And thanks. Always glad to help if I can.
Great info in this thread - thanks wildstang.
Sorry to ask such a entry level question - in regards to:
2. Drop the apk into a pre-made flashable zip that you know installs to system/framework and flash through recovery.
Where would one acquire a pre-made flashable zip ?
EDITED: answered my own question thru trial and error.
Well, its whatever. People on XDA would much rather bash those that need help than to actually help them. I'm still learning but I can't get anywhere with these types of comments. So until then I'll be over at themikmik.com.
Follow me if you truely care. If not, nice knowing ya.
