[Theme] Cyanogen7 ColorMOD - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

Cyanogen 7.1.0 Final ColorMOD + Nightlies
I have spent several hours/days/weeks compiling a simple yet powerfully awesome ColorMOD for Cyanogen7. I would not call this a "Theme" by any stretch of the imagination as all I wanted was some gosh-darned COLOR in my ROM aside from the puke-green of Gingerbread.
I pulled icons from about 7 different theme-packs, I edited a crapton of them in photoshop, and some of them I made myself. I did *NOT* add color icons to the google apps for several reasons, the largest of which is that modifying them can cause them to not update.
If you see any glitches, or an icon I missed please holler at me here and I will fix it immediately. I try to stay on top of the nightly builds as best I can but whatever.
I started this MOD as a request from a friend of mine, and figured it was really nice and maybe some of you out there would like to run it.
I am seriously struggling with the new Theme engine, so this is a .zip flashable that overwrites your default system theme. Other theme packs will of course still work perfectly.

I've been making changes slowly and subtly but I figured it was high and time to make a change-log seeing as I plan to keep this updated due to its popularity.
Changelog:
Added color birthday icon & changed the profile icon when holding down power button (the other one looked out of place)
Added colored icon for the screenshot option when holding down the power button
Changed the vertical color bar from yucky orange to awesome BLUE~!
Updated the WiFi Icon, embossed & changed the single dot to RED when theres no signal
Updated the 4G Icon in the notification bar with ones made by member "Vegasden"
Updated the system Font from ubuntu10.10 to ubuntu, makes scrolling text less laggy and looks the same
Updated window animations to the "Fly-IN" method. Very smooth, very cool.
To Do:
Make the notifications in the drop-down bar transparent (looks like butthole, gonna try and just inverse the colors)
Convert what I can to a theme manager .apk file (WIP, maybe never, Im having issues/lack of help)
And Finally, the Download

TUTORIAL
===========================================================
If you want to modify this theme, use its pictures, make your own themes, distribute whatever, here is my "method" for creating this color modification. Download the files below and lets play "follow-along"
Android "Auto-Sign" Tool
http://www.soulpirates.info/downloads/android_autosign.zip
ColorMOD Template Package
http://www.soulpirates.info/downloads/Cyanogen7_ColorMOD_Template.rar
Open this webpage in a browser
http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/
Download the version of Cyanogen you wish to modify
http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=supersonic
Download the last previous version of the ColorMOD
Links above
Know how to use Adobe Photoshop
Have a good zip program for opening .apk files (I use 7zip)
_
Step 1:
Download & Extract the latest Cyanogen ROM to a folder on your computer
Download & Extract the latest ColorMOD to a folder on your computer
Download & Extract the Cyanogen7_ColorMOD_Template to a folder on your computer
Step 2:
Rename the ColorMOD folder to reflect the new version number i.e. rename "Cyanogen7-rc4_ColorMOD(stock)" ~> "Cyanogen7-n36_ColorMOD(stock)"
Open folder from the latest ROM & the latest ColorMOD side-by-side
Navigate down to the \system\app folder on both
Notice that the ROM has several dozen apk files, and the ColorMOD has only 5
In the ROM folder, grab the 5 .apk files that you see in the ColorMOD folder
Contacts.apk
Mms.apk
Phone.apk
Settings.apk
SystemUI.apk
Move them into the ColorMOD folder overwriting the 5 that are in there, this way you have the latest versions of them directly from the ROM
Step 3:
Navigate both folders to \system\framework
Open the website
http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/
Navigate to the "File Upload" tab
Under "framework-res.apk"
Choose "Select File"
Upload the "framework-res.apk" from the ROM folder
You will now see a progress bar that it is uploading
When it says "Complete"
Click on the tab that says "Windows Animation"
For ColorMOD I use "Flying"
Check the box that says "Use this mod" and click the radio button that says "Flying"
Click on the tab that says "Battery"
Check "Use this mod"
Click on the option that says "SCB with %"
This allows you to use 1% battery increments
Pick ANY option, it doesnt matter, we will be overwriting the battery image files anyways
Click on "Summary" Tab
You will now see three items in green
-Battery
-Windows Animation
-File upload
Click on "Submit work to kitchen" and wait approx 10 minutes.
It will now prepare the framework-res.apk for you that you will be using for the finishing touches on the ColorMOD. You use this kitchen because it prepares all of the REALLY hard stuff for you, such as editing XML files to allow 1% battery and flying in window animations. You can actually just save the xml files it modifies and use them going forward so your not impacting the website, but for this tutorial were going through all the steps from scratch.
Step 4:
Download the file you just "cooked" and save it into your working folder
Open the zip file, it will start with UOT, and extract the framework-res.apk file from it
Now take the "framework-res.apk" file, and OVERWRITE the one in your ColorMOD folder in \system\framework
Step 5:
You are now ready to overwrite the stock image files (nasty green piles of puke) with your beautiful and glorious colorized ones.
Most of this has been prepped for you so it is now SUPER easy. Getting the apk files over and the framework prepared are the hard parts. Now its really just a matter of drag/drop.
Open the ColorMOD template folder side-by-side to the working ColorMOD folder
You will notice that in the \system\app folder you have .apk files that match the FOLDER names in the template folder
Now, simply open the .apk file (I use 7zip), and its corresponding folder in the template
Drag and drop, overwriting all the files when it prompts you
Once you have done that for all of the .apk files in \system\app
Open the \system\framework folder and repeat the same process
Step 6:
You have now replaced every puke-green picture and black & white nonsense with glorious color
Now you need to zip it, sign it, and flash it. Ill show you how to customize it a little bit first
-Close all your folders now except the ColorMOD folder, you are done with the ROM and Template now.
Go to the root so all you see is "META-INF" & "system"
Dig all the way down to \Cyanogen7-n36_ColorMOD(stock)\META-INF\com\google\android
Open the "updater-script" file (I use notepad2)
This should look familiar. Its where you can customize the messages that are played out while flashing the zip file
I shouldnt have to tell you, but dont F*CK with the stuff that doesnt say "ui_print" You have probrably flashed this enough times to know what shows up on the screen and what doesnt. The stuff that doesnt show up, is the stuff that is actually telling the system how to flash the zip file. Anyways, change it up a little, remove my name, put your own ascii art in there, do whatever you want - save/close
You may have also noticed some extra folders in there that we didnt discuss here, "fonts" & "media" ~> Well open them up, the fonts is what replaces your system font with ubuntu10 font, and media is where the bootanimation is located, as well as a few ringtones/notifications I put onto your phone when you flash. You can replace the files in here with whatever you want, add your own bootanimation, dump some ringtones, change the system font etc. When your all done having fun...
-Head back to the root folder so all you see is "META-INF" & "system"
select both folders and zip them up like so
Step 7:
IMPORTANT
-Do NOT flash this if you have modified ANYTHING in the TEMPLATE!!! (This includes ringtones/notifications/etc)
IMPORTANT
You can technically now flash this file, it is signed and ready to go, however, if you modified ANYTHING from the template at all you need to re-sign the file. Signing the file generates a "manifest" of every file that is included in the archive, if you add or remove a file, you need to resign the archive or it will completely bork on install.
To sign files easily, you MUST have the android-sdk installed, I would assume that most of you have this but if not download and install it.
Extract the auto-sign file you downloaded from the top and put the files in the \android\tools folder (android being the folder of your sdk installation)
You will see a beautiful and wonderful .bat file called autosign.bat -YAY!
Move your .zip file to a location that has ZERO spaces in the path. If you have a space the bat file will hang and freeze
To make things easy just put it on the root of your c: drive or something and make sure the zip file name has ZERO spaces
Double check that the patch and file name has ZERO spaces, if your not sure, put it on the root of the c drive and name the file like "a.zip"
Open the autosign.bat file
Choose option (4) Sign files manually
now type the path of your colormod, for example c:\a.zip
Hit enter
If it reads
File signed successfully if no Errors above.
Your good
Step 8:
Copy the zip file to your phone and flash it
Your a god-damned champ! Pat yourself on the back.

Looks like a winner to me! Ty for sharing.

This is Specifically for Nightly 22 (I put that at the very top of the post)
You will need to re-flash rc1, or I would HIGHLY reccomend moving to nightly 22 as it fixes several issues like the gps/wifi/hotspot/ and misc kernel fixes.
here is a link to nightly22, once you flash that it should boot up fine (remember to wipe your cache before upgrading.... no need to wipe data though).
Once you boot up fine, THEN reflash the colormod and you will be happy!!!
http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=supersonic
NOTE: if you want to stay on RC1 for whatever reason, just download the RC1 mixer theme from this thread, it should get you out of your bootloop

Like i said, I made the theme for a friend, that is the sword in the forest from zelda game series.
I can darken it up quite a bit or remove it all togethor and do a dark gradient for everyone here. Ill post up some pics later and see what everyone likes.
_______
The screenshots are hosted on my website but I can dump them over to photobucket if anyone else is having issues.

Oh and one final thing, the battery only ticks off in increments of 5. I wouldnt mind doing 1% ticks but I dont know how to edit the .xml files that control how often it pulls the battery image. If any of you have insight, well.... awesome! Drop me a PM.

Waiting for the update for nightly 26! You can probably flash the .zip for 25 over it I assume but I will wait for the new .zip. really does look great, maybe try getting in touch with the developer of the honeybread theme to get your theme into theme chooser!!

Seems like a dirty version of the mixer theme...

Looks great. I like how it isn't overpowering yet you changed enough things that it sticks out in a clean detailed way.

Yes, I did borrow from Mixer, some from Urban, some from a cm6 mod in their hack forum called "colorized". I photoshopped up all the stuff that was still orange, to the blues on "Hue change" (dark blue is +175 and light blue is +155). I also had an old color icon pack on my computer Scramble that I took some from. And a few I just took the b/w versions, embossed them in photoshop, then changed them to RGB color and hue shifted them till i got the color I was looking for. Its not a unique work to be sure, but I think that its a nice blending of the many themes found here on XDA. I did add some noticeable "personalized" touches, like the zelda themed call screen and the bootanimation. I even snuck in some rings/notification sounds if you didnt notice. But overall Im happy with it.
Thank you for the feedback, im glad you are all finding it as useful as me.
Once the final revision of Cyanogen 7 releases, I am going to post up the template Im working from and a quick & dirty "how-to" so you guys can all tweak and modify it however you like.
Also, I spoke with the gentlemen that makes the mixer theme, and he pointed me to a site that is helping me get the 1% battery increments implemented so stay tuned for that!

[Guide] MetaMorphing! (Updated 5-2-10)

MetaMorph has been updated so that all old MetaMorphs that use a .thm control file WILL NOT WORK! This guide has been updated to instruct you on how to convert your themes to the new format
MetaMorph uses .zip files for its themes which the app unzips and places in a folder.
Inside the .zip is a .xml file and several folders for the apps you want to edit. (For example, you'll see com.htc.resources and Rosie folders in themes that change the bottom bar.) Treat these folders as if they were the .apks themselves. They use the same folder structure. So if you have a file in the folder Rosie/res/drawable/ in your theme's .zip, then MetaMorph will open up Rosie.apk and stick it in the /res/drawable/ folder. Get it?
So that's how you place the files. And the great part about MetaMorph is that you only need to put in the files that you're changing. That's all it needs. This keeps the themes very small and easy to edit, since you can see exactly which files need to be changed!
To create your theme control file, download the attached theme_control_template.xml.txt (rename it to remove the .txt extension) and fill in the required fields using any xml editor (I recommend Notepad++). Name the .xml file the EXACT SAME NAME as the name of the theme. If they do not match they the theme won't work.
Once you have your .xml file created, zip up the folder, place it in the AndroidThemes folder on your sdcard and start MetaMorph. MetaMorph will unzip it, create a new, unzipped folder in AndroidThemes, and add a .nomedia file in there.
This is a very simple process that can easily be done in as little as 5 minutes.
Here is a more in-depth guide if you so desire (by the author of the app): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591329
And here is a collection of MetaMorphs created (Note: most of these WILL NOT work on Sense ROM's! Read what ROM each theme is created for carefullly! If you have a question, ask and someone will tell you if the theme is usable on your Hero): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589315
Thanks for the tutorial. I've always wondered why more people don't use metamorph (for the Hero at least). It's such a great application. Hopefully we'll see some new themes popping up soon. Thanks!
So If I wanted to change a file in rosie.apk I would only need to place the modded file in the apk into metamorph? All the other junk can be left out?
Just did a little more reading and looking at some examples and looks like I got it. Thank for the information
Yea I hope to see more themes using this, seems alot easier and more flexible for designers/themers

Please Nandroid before installing. Both were verified with Damage Control v.2.05. Should work for any ROM based on DC v2.05, not verified on 1.5/6 ROMs although I think they would work if the font files are in the /system/fonts directory and named the same as the Morphs. Stock fonts have also been provided.
I am having bit a problem with MetaMorph. After I open up Metamorph, it says that it needs to check a few things to make sure the phone meets all the requirement. After I press "Start Checks" it opens up Superuser but does nothing. I know superuser is working fine cuz it works for wifi tether. What am i doing wrong?
What ROM version do you have installed? After it checked for updates did you get the option to select "allow", "Always Allow", etc.? If there was something wrong Metamorph would probably have given you and error.
Re: [Guide] MetaMorphing!
so use meta to change those fonts you zipped. wondering if there is a way to apply the font changes to only certain parts of the phone. would this make it easier to change the colors of backgrounds and menus etc?

Does anybody have a good resource for metamorph themes?
Edit: nevermind, missed the link on the first post. Any other suggestions are welcomed
Every theme I download and put on my sd card gives me a invalid theme or theme is missing error. I would know exactly what it said if it stayed up for more than a second and 1/2. I am downloading themes based on the Rom I have yet NOTHING will work. Am I missing a step here. I download, put it in the AndroidThemes dir on the sd card then open Metamorph Pro and extract. I then get the message about it being invalid or it is missing.

Looking for a little help here. I want to change my bluetooth images in the framework-res.apk.
I keep getting this error.....
"The theme you selected is invalid because the the theme control file could not be read and may be missing"
This is what I have in my .thm file...
framework-res.apk
/system/framework/
This is the directory structure for my zip file (test.zip)....
-test
- framework-res
- res
- drawable-mdpi
My .thm file is in the test directory my images are in the drawable-mdpi directory.
Any idea what I might be doing wrong? Is BusyBox required for this to work? I saw some posts that led me to believe it was but others don't say anything about it. I am rooted and downloaded Metamorph and it seem to run okay accept for the error when trying to load my zip file.
Thanks.
Ok, for the people who are getting invalid theme messages:
Recently, Stericson changed MetaMorph - Donate to MetaMorph Pro. MetaMorph Pro uses a different theme format than MetaMorph free does! Instead of using .thm files, it uses .xml files. This means that any themes that were made for MetaMorph free WILL NOT work for MetaMorph Pro! Kinda lame, I know, but that's the case for right now.
My best advice for you is to just install the free version for now. I know you paid $3 for the Pro version and I don't want you to waste your money, so as soon as I am able to I will look into converting these into themes compatible with MetaMorph Pro.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

This has many advantages over just using apks as these should be pretty standard across roms & they are easier to work off of. Id consider all of this experimental as I havent had time to test every rom/scenario so if something doesnt work please leave details on what rom & theme + whats broken. Nandroid first.
Please leave feedback if stuff works & Feel free to work off of these, post your own metamorphs with screenshots and ill update this.
To apply get metamorph from the market. Dump zip file in /sdcard/AndroidThemes/ Do not rename zip file. Run metamorph & apply all.
If you were running a previous non metamorph theme or you do not get all the intended updates try pushing a 'stock' com.htc.resources.apk & framework-res.apk to /system/framework/ (or whatever APK its tripping up on) from the original rom & trying again.

If it's for all morphs, those are a few I did.
Hey TrevE I flashed the the Darkstar mod metamorph you posted in the other thread which is what I assume the same as the one you posted here. Just some more feedback, I noticed that the one thats on my phone is the normal Darkstar theme and not the mod version with the grey battery icons and what not. Applied it a second time to make sure. Also the stock espresso spits out an error about halfway through stating that it cannot be processed due to theme control file being invalid.

What APK was metamorph on when it died off? Did you try to apply the metamorph from inside launcher instead of having sense running? I had some issues inside sense. I applied the espresso one again and it seemed OK.

That was on just extracting the espresso zip. it died at 57% everytime and spat out that error and shutdown metamorph. I'll try running both from launcher instead.
Edit: Actually I noticed when I was about to clear defualt it says there is no default set. I'm running DCv2.05 btw.

I tried downloading it a 2nd time but I will again. I have about 90MB free on my SD
I also just downloaded homeswitcher to check but on DCv2.05 there is only Sense no launcher2 or anything else. Seems kinda strange cause I always remembered being able to atleast use the default Home on other roms before.

I dont think DC had it in it. You can just push this to /system/app/ its the launcher i hexed with 5screen home. If its failing extracting can you open the zip in winzip?

Thanks, interestingly even though my sd card said it had about 90MB free I extracted it on my pc and then transfered it to my phone which initially gave me disk full so I cleared some space and transfered it. Whats wierd is it only shows as being 17.6 MB
Font replacements for 2.x ROMs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6118436&postcount=6
your darkstar theme and blackice didnt work for fresh 2.0d :/
Got a question. Which file do I have to edit to change the font color of the text in the task bar? I'm working on a theme, but the white text doesn't work on a light background.
I was intially going to just post the results after a couple days of playing around with your metamorph themes and what worked and didn't. The only one theme that I got the best results out of was your Darkstar Mod them. Most of the team applied with a few exceptions. And I could never get the stock espresso to work it would always loop on com.htc.resources. I had minimal luck with MarksTheme. After a little bit of digging I noticed after comparing what was working with what wasn't as well as the original rom apks the folder structure was incorrect for some themes or they weren't in the right folder which explained why things wouldn't change. What I noticed thus far:
Darkstar Mod - HtcClockWidget: pngs are in root instead of /res/drawable-normal-mdpi
Darkstar Mod - WorldClock: pngs are in /drawable-mdpi instead of /res/drawable-mdpi
Marks Theme - com.htc.resources: pngs are in /res/drawable-mdpi/drawable-mdpi instead of /res/drawable-mdpi
Thats what I got thus far from examining the themes and just wanted to give you a heads up. I'm gonna fix them myself as realized how relatively simple it is to port to Metamorph. Hopefully you can look through yourself and fix anything else you find. Thanks though for giving me a reason to get into this a little bit more. Personally I'm still reluctant to actually try editing png's myself.
Edit: After a little more playing I made a stock Metamorph of Damage's Rom so I can revert back to. I found that just like you're stock espresso it would stay forever on com.htc.resources.apk. Just like you I extracted the stock apk's and put them in the corresponding folders and created a thm for it. I noticed that it wasn't frozen at com.htc.resources it just seemed to keep going forever and ever (+5min). My logical thought was it's trying to replace sooo many files in there that it's taking very long. After checking most Metamorph themes I realized they don't even change half of the files inside of com.htc.resources.apk so I removed all of them except drawable, drawable-mdpi, and drawable-port-mdpi tried again and voila it finished installing. (Note there is only 1 Metamorph theme that I found that changes drawable and drawable-port-mdpi everything else thus far is only drawable-mdpi)
Edit2: After putting the correct file structure and nandroiding back to a pre-metamorphed backup I was able to apply your theme and everything changed that should have changed without a problem. I'm assuming as well that the current themes will still work on the new DamageControl as the frameworks should still be the same from the previous version.

How do you just install the notification bar
Anyway to use MetaMorph to only install the notification bar on one of these themes? I like the different notification bars but want to leave the remainder of my Rosie Stock theme intact...
Any guidance would be appreciated.

You need to track down what files were modified in what apk's in order to create a metamorph theme. It's a pain to do it the first time around, but from then out on, it's much easier than incorporating the changed files into a new apk with every new rom.

[MODS] by neb

I decided to start this thread because I just finished my first EVO mod.
I'll continue to use this thread to post any more stuff I do in the future.
Don't expect too much from this thread, I'm pretty much a weekend warrior when it comes to this stuff but I do like to tweak things to my preference and if anyone else digs it then cool.
I'm partial to DC roms so anything I post here was built on DC, if it's not I will clarify.
Most DC mods will work on other roms also built on the Sprint release but I make no guarantees and will probably not be doing any testing on other builds

Battery Gauge Icons
I haven't figued out how to make the .xml's for metamorph so these are flashable signed.zips of each battery set.
I've also included a NON flashable .zip of all the flashable .zips and a .zip of the images for
those who would like to drop the .png's in themselves to preserve any other themes/mods (to the framework-res.apk).
See the bottom of this post for "How To Add .pngs to framework-res.apk".
None of these have a BG, I put gray behind them so you can see the depth a little better

These two .zips are NOT flashable.
They are a .zip of all of the flashable .zips above (if you want to try more than one )
and a .zip of the .pngs themselves along with the .psd (if anyone wants to play )
They also both include this Alarm ON Icon
Battery_Gauge_Set.zip (all the flashable zips above)
nebs_2.2_batt_Icons.zip (all the icon .pngs)
I just realized the Alarm ON Icon I included has the stock Sense taskbar bg..
Here is one w/o the bg if anyone wants it:

HOW TO CHANGE FRAMEWORK ICONS AND PRESERVE OTHER MODS:These instructions will work on Sprint/HTC as well as AOSP builds
MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP !!!!
Plug phone into PC (USB)
Open a cmd prompt (may need to open as administrator in win7/vista, not sure)
Navigate to "c:\android-sdk\tools" (unless it's in your path)
Type the following:
Code:
adb remount
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk c:\
Open a windows explorer window and locate the framework-res.apk you just pulled to c:\
Use 7zip or WinRAR to open the archive of the framework-res.apk (right click on the .apk)
In the archive of the .apk open res/drawable-hdpi, you should see a TON of .pngs
Open the folder that contains the images you want to use
Drag and drop the images into res/drawable-hdpi (the new images must be the same name as the original)
Close 7zip/WinRAR
Go back to your cmd prompt and type:
Code:
adb push c:\framework-res.apk /system/framework
[COLOR="green"][B]#Once the push is finished QUICKLY TYPE:[/B]
[/COLOR]
adb reboot
*Replacing framework-res can have some funky effects on the phone. When you are booted (only once, the first time after pushing the apk) it's likely your wallpaper will be reset to stock and you may have to add your google account back and re-sync, neither have been terribly inconvenient for me
how do you install? sorry for a noobish question.

Working on stuff for 2.2 now..
I will be posting a transparent tray for DC FroYo soon
Right now I'm working on some taskbar icons. I thought it might be cool to have a fuel gauge for the battery..
I have the whole battery set done once I get a couple more things done I'll zip and sign an update if anyone's interested
I thought about doing a speedometer for cdma but FroYo only uses 4 icons..

Thanks for the Morph. Looks like I am the first one to try
Will report how it goes.
looks pretty good
but how can i apply it on modaco's r21 frf91 rom?
i m new to themes
EDIT: nevermind,i found about the MEtamorhp app,but why does it require "full internet access"?
EDIT 2: unzipped theme from MEtaMorph, applied, and was getting repeated FC's (process.android.PHONE)
took the battery out
gonna try for a last time
EDIT 3:reboot and i m missing two home screen icons, setting menu is using new coloured icons, rest of the phone not
EDIT 4: (last one) just noticed its for your own ROM but i m not gonna install it,i m happy with modaco's ****
Doesn't work
The control file is missing or is not written correctly according to metamorph.
didnt work
Ok tried on theofficial ROM but unforutnately didnt work. says some files were missing. too bad, as i really liked theoffical rom but at the same time desire feel...
Sorry guys im new to metamorph but all you really have to do is copy the files to the folders in the apk's I suggest using winrar or an app such as that and just coopy them in and push them :\ sorry I dont know how to do it right..but ill upload just the files if you guys want?

Thanks, so nice of you to offer to upload files. I assume I can unzip files from theme you already uploaded. So if you could just point what files to be copied to what folders it would be very helpful.
Thanks man!
someone that knows how to do,can create a flashable package?
I gave this a go but got a few issues.
First time I ran it on MCR R21 I noticed that there where spelling mistakes in the XML file which may have meant the theme was trying to be applied to apk that didnt exist!
So i corrected the spelling mistakes however when it was trying to apply the changes to the phone.apk this caused it to Force Close in a loop.
The only way to get round this was to reboot. No major problem...
I took out the section in the morph xml to not apply anything for the phone.apk and tried again this wen't through without any problems however on reboot it caused the phone to boot loop. it got past the static X logo but didnt get to the animation and was boot looping on a black screen
again no major issue as i had done a nandroid so just did a wipe and restore
Just trying to help really
ok scratch that!
I managed to create an update.zip however it caused a couple of FC's and the clock and notification text wasn't white! in fact the text for the network identification doesn't exist!
I thought this might have been because i didnt include androidmanifest.xml and resources.arsc so i included them into the framework-res.apk but this caused a bootloop! :S
anyone got any suggestions?
I really, really like this. Simple, clean, sexy. But I'm not grasping what needs to be done to apply this. Could someone explain?
Update.zip added for simple install.. Since metamorph was having problems...
make sure you are installing the update.zip on a clean install because all its doing is replacing some files with the customized ones
made it easier and should not be any problems now.

There was a screw up in the update-script :\
Patch applied without error, didn't change anything
It ran without an error but everything looks exactly stock. It didn't change anything. Keep up the good work though death, once again sorry we got into it!
UPDATE:
Ok so I went through everything, the update-script, the manifest and there's no reason that this shouldn't be working. I have ****ed with a lot of stuff -- it is MCR21. All I've really done though is change applied some Swype skins in metamorph and moved APKs that I consider critical (Swype, LauncherPro), to the system/app folder because I'm using a2sd and I'm only using a Class 2 SD. So the question is is it just my device or are other people facing this problem too?
I'm going to try pushing this stuff manually -- I'll get back to you.

A few things changed when I applied this theme, but the most noticeable change to me (the bar up top) remained white. That's one of the most important aspects of the phone I wanted changed.
Just push the files out manually
Push the files to the device manually according to the directory structure in the ZIP file. It takes a little longer but it's totally worth it. It looks AWESOME. Thanks death!

This new method uses the file system MetaMorph Application (just have to place files or folders on their respective routes), with the advantage that the system identifies and injects them into their applications without the need for external application. The subjects are flashed directly from recovery.
At the end of the post is attached blank template and a sample issue to start testing.
What are the advantages of this method over the MetaMorph or traditional flasheables issues?
Do not include. Apk complete, only the files you want to include in the subject.
A theme created with this template is valid for any ROM, even among different phone roms (the tests have been conducted and Nexus SGS2 one).
Optionally, the template can include complete files if desired, can even be used to install applications not system.
Does not depend on external applications such as MetaMorph because it flashes directly from recovery.
Performance of staff
At the end of the post are attached a number of considerations to take into account, but basically works like this:
Identify the applications that you want to thematize and verifies that exist in the rom. Once the check, the system compares folders that will be introduced as well as files and injects them into the apk as long as the new apk file exists within. This has been thought well to avoid filling an apk with files that do not belong because they are from another rom or because you made a mistake when typing the name, for example.
Once injected the files is one of the apk zipalign to optimize RAM usage.
Optionally, if the topic includes external files or copy them to install applications on your path.
While the issue is being applied, the system will generate a backup of changed files and automatically creates a file. Flasheable from zip recovery, in case something goes wrong or do not like the changes back to its previous state.
Finally, it also generates a small log with the outcome of the whole process is recorded on the SD to verify that all changes are applied correctly.
How to create and edit your own theme
Download the template from the attachment in this post or the link below.
Recommended Tools: 7zip to include files and browse the file system (you can also use winzip or winrar with no problem) and Notepad + + or any other plain text editor to edit the name of the mod.
Once downloaded, open the template with double-click will observe and folders inside a file in the root. Here's are in each folder and how to create the theme.
MOD.config file (new from version 3.0)
It is an editable text file (recommend Notepad + +) where he also set the name of the MOD to set different parameters of the template.
MOD_VERSION = name (name of the mod to be displayed in the system properties after the name of the rom. It is recommended not to put a very long name and try to avoid as far as possible in the blanks.
CLEAN_MORPHING = not (compare the new files before injection into the apk, only introduced if the file already exists. By checking the speed is drastically reduced)
V4_MORPHING = yes (support to manage compatibility with existing folders-v4 system in some applications).
DO_BACKUP = yes (enable or disable the creation of the backup flasheable from recovery to restore the existing theme).
LOG_ENABLED = yes (enable or disable the creation of a log file with the results of the process).
SCREEN_LOG = yes (shows the process of recovery on the screen or not. Notices are always important but turned off the option).
Optionally, you can set a different path for memory cards (no need to touch these lines in most cases, you should not touch):
default_internal_sdcard = / EMMC
default_external_sdcard = / sdcard
Optionally, you can add special commands to mount partitions (no need to modify these lines in most cases, you should not touch):
mount_system = mount / system
mount_data = mount / data
README.txt:
Includes some additional notes on the operation and leave. Please read before using the template to create a theme (in English).
Cartet / tools:
This is the folder where you have placed the scripts and binary files needed to flash the issue and make subsequent restoration. No need to touch anything in this folder to edit the theme. From version 3.0 has been deleted because busybox binary is no longer involved in the process.
Folder / META-INF:
System Folder which includes the signature and the script file to launch from recovery. It is recommended not to touch.
Folder / MORPH:
This is the template folder where files should be included with the theme. In turn, the folder is divided into two subfolders called / data (for applications theming system NO) and / system (for theming system and applications framework).
In the folder / MORPH / system / app files are included for applications and / MORPH / system / framework for the framework files.
ATTENTION: NO application theming system in / MORPH / data / app / myapp.apk digital signature is change, so from that time can not be updated from the market or will you installed in the market (like if it had installed by 'other means' non-statutory ...). Therefore, we do not recommend any downloaded application thematize the market. You are advised that the complaints do not come then ...
For each application you want to thematize is to open a new folder called / nombre.apk (eg / Contacts.apk if you want to change the system application Contacts.apk). You must respect the use of upper / lower case. Within each of these folders you have to respect that there are logical paths within applications, so that the files would have to place them in folders named / res / drawable, res / drawable-hdpi, etc ...
It's the same structure of the subject MetaMorph, so that any item is readily convertible MetaMorph simply dragging folders.
No need to create any control file or anything like that. The system is responsible for reviewing the folders you want to know tematitar applications.
Folder / Xtras / system:
in this folder is where, if desired, can include files or complete applications that you wish to flash in conjunction with the subject. For example, sound files, bootanimation, scripts, complete applications, etc ...
Folder / Xtras / data:
in this folder is where, if desired, can not add applications to be installed system during flashing.
Folder / Xtras / sdcard:
in this folder can be copied to add files to make the SD card, such as packs of icons, sounds, videos, etc ...
Considerations to take into account
Always respect the use of upper / lowercase in the names of files or folders and logical paths located within the apps.
With this system the themes may be universal, although depending on the type of files a user input may cease to be:
If only image files are included the theme is compatible with any rom from any phone.
If you also are included. Xml files, you may only work in one rom, but can still work on future updates of the same.
If resources are included for translations (resources.arsc) the issue would only be valid for a particular rom.
The. Zip file to the topic is not necessary for you to sign flashes, and is valid for CW-Recovery and Recorevy-RA. If you do not have to remember signing off signature checking before flashing.

Special thanks to @ lexullde [email protected] HtcMania to follow the entire process, to adapt its themes, and suggest new things.
Nice one...
Awsome work way to go you are welcome.
Best Regards.
itsme_4ucz.
thanks, this mod is a very easy to create themes, I already I have created the elegance note for Kingdroid sgs2 and good is not to be afraid of reactions each with each version or adapt to different roms, the installer is responsible to adapt
Hello
UT doesn't work on last Turkbey v35 framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk (SGS2) for morph modding. UT 3.4 uses 7z for repacking. I found old 1.0 tool, where repacking was done by unzip and zip. So, I don't know how, but UT 1.0 works great, UT 3.4 gave up
I found another thing: "7z" on Windows says "Not implemented" while repacking these apk's... I don't know how Turkbey is zipping his files, but WinRar says that they are corruped
Maybe it's good idea to implement in UT two ways of repacking? If error occurs with 7z, just do old-way unzip/zip?...
Here are "unmorphable" SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk.
Link dead... can you return it over ? please
Thanks and good job

All I want to do is be able to change my status bar icons like I was able to before ICS. I have no idea how to use this tool, why has it all become so f-ing complicated

not complicated!
just unzip your systemUI,
search for the icons, should be in systemUI.apk/res/drawable(hdpi or xhdpi or ldpi or what kind of device you use)
than, mod it to your liking.
now create a folder in the morph section, like this:
morph/system/app/systemUI.apk(*its a folder, exactly named, as the apk!!*)/res/drawable-
place your icons, corect named of course, into the proper folder, zip the whole stuff, make a nandroid, and flash.
if you are used to zip, editing files, that should be no problem.
Well thanks for trying to help...
But would it be the same thing if I'm using a non-stock ROM (I'm using Rocket ROM 7)?
And what about if one is using all these themes going around? I'm using trinev's mini-dark theme which I may be trying to switch to 'NEW ICEY Blue THEME With Sense 4.0 Recent Panel For Touchwiz ROMS!!' both already have status bar icon mods.
It's just I'm terrified of the dreaded boot loops! Plus, because I basically have a stock ROM with all the bloat doing nandroid backups & restores take forever!

Well, it should be working for all Roms,
Just keep the folder structure and icon names. Or use a cm9/aokp rom, which supports theme apks.
