Old School Icon Packs - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I have the nexus one and I'm actually looking for an old school android icon pack (1.5-1.6). Just got a little nostalgic and wondered if there was way to put those on my device. COOOLLL thanks.

Simple phone with large screen and big numbers?

Hey guys, I am looking for a phone for my dad and he has poor eye sight and his fingers are pretty large. What would be a good phone for him. Preferably something very simple that has large font and decent sized dial pad. He currently uses the Motorola V3 and has been using that for years. I am trying to look for something to replace that with. Oh yeah and cheap as well.
check out emporia:

Well, my dad isn't that old. I was looking for something more like the razr with a bigger screen with a simple UI not complicated like Windows Mobile phones.
If he uses the phone only for calling, and not SMS/MMS, you might want to look up the Motorola F3 - rather large keys, simple UI, almost indestructible, very long standby time, high-contrast e-paper based screen, really cheap (about 30$ new, without simlock). But it's SMS ability is very limited (scrolling single line text), no MMS at all, no advanced features. It's just a simple phone with SMS and alarm clock.
Try searching youtube, there are some video reviews there.
I also looked at the F3 and that phone looked like it would be perfect but there were a few drawbacks that my dad would not like. I am sorry for not specifying more clearly, he would need a camera built in and I am assuming a color screen for the camera. The camera would be for his business purposes and possible emergencies that would require the usage of one which have come out a few times for him in the past year already. So the features I am looking for are:
Big screen with big text.
Decent sized keys.
Color Screen.
Camera (better than V3 hopefully)
Form factor does not matter.
Simple UI (not Windows Mobile OS)
And CHEAP
Thank you for taking your time and helping me out.
Maybe have a look at some of the Samsung phones - I just got my dad a Samsung E390 and he loves it - very easy to use, he gets on fine with the keys - they're not big but easy used. The display is great - text is a great size - that's the first thing my dad said - he could actually read it! The camera is OK - not anything to write home about but it takes a reasonable picture. Moreover it's cheap - I think we paid about £50 on pay as you go on Orange.

HTC Icons and other graphics

Hi everyone, first time post here. Have been lurking in these forums for a few months as I have been considering a HTC HD2 to upgrade from my iPhone 3GS.
I just have a few questions. Firstly, is easy to change the home screen application icons without any programming knowledge (the skin I did for my iPhone was just a case of replacing images). Secondly, can the icons in the sliding dock be replaced too (easily).
I really like the phone, I think the only things that let it down for me are:
1) Outlook looks horrendous, as does the Windows Mobile Market Place? Seriously, why didnt HTC skin those too?
2) The icons look like a cross between someone who has learned how to make something shiny in photoshop for the first time and someone who uses paint/word to create icons.
I am a professional graphic designer by trade and I just couldn't look at those icons everyday so wanted to check before I purchase the phone

HTC HD7

JUST CHECKED OUT THE HD7 AND I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW BAD ASS IT WAS! I LOVE MY EVO AND ALL, BUT COME ON... THAT WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL OS ON A PHONE I'VE EVER SEEN.
sent from my bad-ass EVO!
You find large CGA coloured squares beautiful?
Yes, simple is beautiful. Look past the squares. Look at the topography, the keyboard, the transitions, the colors, the overall design, the difference. It's not just a standard desktop with boring icons.
Again, I love Android and my EVO, but **** man that Windows Phone 7 is definitely a contestant for my next one. I hope Google can redesign some things to get away from the standard boring iPhone esque look and feel.

You've got Andy Worhol pop art on your wall at home don't you?
Each to their own, and I'm glad that you've found an interface that suits you.
Personally, I gave up CGA back in 1986 along with my 4.77MHz CPU (ah nostalgia).
Come on guys... you can't possibly think a desktop with icons looks good on a phone. It's ok, you won't hurt Androids feelings.

That's one of the most asinine things I've read. Cause the entire OS is the home screen?
Also, it cannot be CGA because it displays too many colors, and the resolution is much higher. At least don't embarass yourself when you're trying to be witty.
Also, VGA obsoleted CGA and EGA in 1987. In 1986 the best you could do was EGA, which was 16 colors at < VGA resolutions.
I still can't believe there hasn't been one person in agreement. Anyways I realize this thread is as good as dead here on xda.

I see you're still trolling.
Perhaps it would leave you in better stead if you looked up the definitions of metaphore and simile?
Just a suggestion.
I will kep it alive with giant letters
Windows needs a cool little mascot like android. I love that little guy.

I agree 100%. I now own the HD7 and I LOVE IT! The phone I had before was the Samsung Vibrant. Windows Phone 7 OS simply rocks!
I have to agree as well. My first smartphone was the G1. I loved it. Since then, I've owned the myTouch 3G and I like it as well. Android OS is great, but you have to agree that it's a little laggy at times and definitely not polished. I wanted to try something new and fresh so I took the dive on an HD7. I chose it over the myTouch 4G. I thought I would regret this decision and I even went back to the T-Mobile store to return my two HD7's for the myTouch 4G after 2 weeks of use. But something funny happened when I was at the T-Mobile store. While I was waiting for my turn (the store was full), I started playing around with the myTouch 4g and was amazed how laggy it is. I also compared the two form factors and decided that I could not give up my 4.3" goodness. The web surfing experience is awesome as is everything else. So, in the end, i just walked out of the store happy that I had a smartphone that was satisfying. It really is. No regrets.
I have to agree that the phone is as fast and snappy as the iPhone. And I also agree with you that the interface is very well done. The experience is quite nice. I know it doesn't have anywhere near the amount of apps as Android, but there is something about this OS that is just...delightful. The app market will grow soon enough and I have all the apps for everyday use. Web, mail, Slacker, Office integration, etc.
I know it sounds crazy. You have to use it to know what I mean. People who dismiss it outright just don't want to hear about anything other than what they have and will defend it 'till the end. That's fine, but also try to keep an open mind from time to time. If you haven't experienced WP7, try it next time you are at the carrier store. You will be surprised.

[Q] Help old timer choose new phone please.

Hi everyone, it been a very long time since I've been on here and I must say I'm really pleased to see how popular the site is these days.
It makes me laugh to see the date I first joined up here (2003) with my XDA I and what's amazing is that there isn't much I wasn't able to do on my XDA I that I'm doing today on my iPhone 4.
Having been a hardcore Windows Mobile man for many years it took a while for me to consider anything else. I tried the iphone 1 and a few early android devices but none managed to convince me to leave WM until the 3GS came along and I'm somewhat ashamed to admit I've been an Apple convert ever since the 3GS.
I've tried a few Android devices over the last year or two (Hero, Desire & Desire S) but again nothing has impressed me enough to keep them for longer than a few weeks.
The truth is I've always hated Apple and their arrogance so I've always longed for something to come along to blow the iPhone 4 out of the water but nothing I've seen yet on an Android device comes close to the feel and day to day use of the iPhone.
So why am I looking now?
Well the main reason is that I want a bigger screen.
Despite having had an iPad1, iPad2 and a cheap jap 7" Android tablet I still find myself using the iPhone for everything. Why? Well I guess because it's always in my pocket and not tucked away in a bag.
So really I am looking for one device to do everything and so here here is my wish list....
4.5 - 6 inch screen
Good resolution
High powered multitasking
Thin and light weight as poss
5mp+ Back camera with flash and a front camera
HDMI or VGA out
Must run Logmein ignition or similar
Wifi N
Bluetooth 3.0
Upgradable/rootable/jailbreakable
Have played with Galaxy S2 and the HTC Sensation but neither really done it for me as they're not that much bigger than the iPhone.
Also considered the Motorola Atrix as I like the finger scanner and love the whole Lapdock idea but I just know the Lapdock would always stay in the bag.
The Dell Streak sounds like my ideal device but I don't really want to buy a discontinued device unless someone can convince me they're "all that"
Have found this during my searching and it seems to tick every box. Anyone know how I can get one?

Android 4.2 for tablet

Hi there,
since the 4.2 have same UI for tablets and phones than previous, are you satisfied with it? I'm not sure if it's worth upgrading, because for me, it doesn't seem comfortable... When you have 10" tablet and want to probably hold it with two hands, then how you touch control buttons in middle of display? I think that it's not a good step, because tablet is tablet and phone is phone. But you know... It's only my thought, since I've never used it. So I'm asking if somebody have experiences with that..?
I think everyone has their own preference. I have a 10" tablet and cannot work effectively with the buttons in the middle. Thankfully, the kind devs over at EOS have added an option to move the buttons back to the left.
In terms of having an extra bar at the top of the screen, I don't care for it. Having bars at the top and bottom eat up valuable screen real estate. So when I need a full screen, I just use another option from EOS, which is a full screen mode.
So, I've found ways to work around the things I don't like.
yeah, I think so... Well, that's good news for me... Thanks
I could see how the new UI would work okay on a 7" tablet, but on a 10" tablet like my Touchpad I prefer the classic tablet UI. Its easy to access the soft keys with my left hand and use my right hand for the notifications area and interacting with apps. I thought the whole point of the Honeycomb UI redesign was to get something that worked better on tablets than 2.x and then ICS was made to merge both UIs into one OS. Now Google is forcing a UI on tablet users that somewhat resembles the 2.x version of Android on tablets.
Absolutely agree with you... I don't know why they messed up this. I still remember my HTC Flyer (7" tablet) on 2.3 and it wasn't clever solution... Now, things are repeating but in bigger size. Okay, maybe it's good idea to have same UI, so users will now how to use it and developers would have less work, but when it comes to reality it's annoying.
Hey - that's what Paranoid Android is for!
