Hi all..
I've been using a TwinMOS 2GB x66 cad for 2 months now, and rarely I had the problem of disappearing storage card, but a simple SR or inserting the card again solved the problem.
Since a couple of hours, the symptom has come back, but now nothing solves it I've done a dozen of SR and inserted the card several times, but still the same problem: some folders are empty, and others are written in strange letters. the card isn't actually disappearing at all, ilauncher still shows its correct size, but all folders are corrupted.
I have the feeling that all this happened after installing the free medical program EPOCRATES, since only this program's folder was viewable in the program files folder on the storage card, and all others simply disappeared. Of course uninstalling the software didn't help
Any idea guys???
Thanks in advance.
Did you try to install this cab. It's for the htc p3300 but it's work too for the htc p3600 ...
http://www.europe.htc.com/support/faq.html?id=545&device=htcp3600
Isn't it strange that this patch has been published by HTC only mentionning the pb on P3300 and not ont the P3600 ?
Are you sure applying it on a P3600 is safe ?
Yes, i am...I apply it to mine and it's work fine... I didn't have some problems with my mini-sd card but with my sim+ (128 Mo) and now it's more stable !!
And as you can see the link i put is for the htc p3600.
This cab works also with the htc :
- S310
http://www.europe.htc.com/support/faq.html?id=545&device=htcs310
- S710
http://www.europe.htc.com/support/faq.html?id=545&device=htcs710
This has been posted before in various threads, but just to repeat:
The cab mentioned is for the Artemis/P3300. It installs one file to \windows: omap850_sdhc.dll, which is the SD driver for a device with a TI OMAP 850 processor.
It will have no effect, positive or negative, to install it on a device with a Samsung processor, except wasting 42K of space.
So why the support of HTC in this differents links (3600, s310, s710) refers to it ?? And it's fact that my sim+ is more stable now !! Not to bother you ... just to understand !!

Actually they don't really. This has also been explained before in other posts, but here goes again:
If you go to www.europe.htc.com and navigate to support for P3300, you can find faq 545, which relates to the 'P3300 SD card enhancement', and when you've found that one, the URL in the address will be: www.europe.htc.com/support/faq.html?id=545
If you now go and add e.g. '&device=htcp3600' to the end of the URL and press enter, then you will get the same faq, but it will look like it's from the P3600 support, which is not really true; it's just a 'less fortunate' behaviour by the web site.
Faq 545, 'P3300 SD card enhancement', really belongs to the P3300 support area, and nowhere else.

I'm sure it's correct when you say so, but if it's caused by putting omap850_sdhc.dll in your \windows directory, then it's nothing short of a miracle.
Okay...thanks !

Thanks guys for the replies, but I guess we went a little bit off-topic.
I understand that the patch mentioned above won't work. Is there any other solution to this issue, apart from formatting it again??
unfortunately, I forgot to move my SPB Backup file from the miniSD to my PC, so I lost even that file my bad
I would like to mention again how it happened: most presumably after installing the program EPOCRATES. Can this help??
Thanks again
You are far from being the first to have a problem like this with a SD card on a Trinity, and I'm afraid there is no easy cure.
Did you try and put the card in a card reader and see if it looked OK here?
If you can read it with a card reader, then make a backup (copy) to your PC, reformat it and restore the copy before putting it back in the Trinity, and see how it looks now.

I tried that, but same strange characters are also shown on my PC using the SD adapter. there is even a 4GB eek file in the root directory of the card. everything so strange.
Guess that you will have to do a reformat if possible.
If there is something on the card that you really want to salvage before you do the reformat, then you could try to do this with a file recovery utility.

Actually the Spb backup file would be really helpful Do u recommend any program for trying to recover it??
Thanks
I'm using an old release of WinHex myself.
WinHex is not free, but a trial can be downloaded from here: http://winhex.com/winhex/index-m.html
I'm not sure what limitations there might be in the unlicensed version, but I would recommend giving it a try before looking elsewhere.
I don't have any recent experience with other recovery utilities, but there are a number of them to be found here: http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tg=dl-20&qt=recovery&tag=srch
Great, after trying to recover files with Winhex (unsuccessfully), The device doesn't recognize the card anymore, and now it requires a format I give up.
Is there anything I should make to prevent future problems like this??
First of all, should I format it as FAT16 or FAT32?
should I format it on the device or using a card reader?
should I use a specific program for formatting or the default windows application?
Thanks again

Try this - found from the Artemis forum.
It's a preventive measures - not one that can save your already messed up SD.

If you are still looking for a recovery solution, a friend had a similar incident with the 2GB Toshiba SD card on his 818 Pro just last week, and, not counting MP3s stored on the card (which he can restore from his CD library), I managed to recover for him some 90% of the files intact using Ontrack's EasyRecovery Professional.

Since I installed the official HTC GPS upgrade ROM I have had no problems anyway.
Hi everyone... PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!
My new phone (Touch by HTC 6900) was powering off by itself and not turning on unless I removed the battery -- after I had tried to pair the phone with another phone using BlueTooth. So, I called Sprint who had me to hard reset the phone. But first beforing doing that, the Sprint representative had me to copy the PIM file to the SD card in the phone, then remove the card from the phone. After we hard reset the phone, I was told to insert the SD card back into the phone. But, the PIM file now reads "pim.vol.0b935b1b" instead of just "PIM". Now, I can not open this file (my contacts) on my phone nor my computer. I cut this file off the SD card and placed it on the desktop of my computer. When I try to open it there, I get a message saying that I'm attempting to open a ".MENC" file. So, I guess my file was encrypted. I DO NOT have this list of contacts anywhere else and despirately need to get them out of this file. Does anyone have any idea how I can retrieve my contacts list from this file - decrypt this file?
Thanks for any help that you can offer me....
& Happy Holidays!
Pierce
Hello and welcome to the forum!
Please be sure to read this!
I moved your thread in to a more appropriate topic.
Now to your question:
The file is not encrypted. I am not sure how it got the extension 0b935b1b but the name should be pim.vol.
The PC can not recognize this file because it is EDB format unique to Windows Mobile devices.
What you need to do to get your contacts back is from a PC (via ActiveSync) or by using Total Commander for PPC rename pim.vol which is in root (base "\") directory of your device to pim1.vol then copy the pim.vol you had on SD in it's place.
The soft reset the device. If the file was not damaged you should get your contacts back.
Hope this helps, good luck!

The file is encrypted - he did not write the full file name - extension of it is .menc.
@ Pierce: The encryption key is held in device's internal memory. After HR or flash it gets overwritten/erased. SD card encryption uses AES 128 bit encryption, brute force attack against this kind of encryption with normal PC would take decades. Your contacts are therefore most probably gone for good. More info about SD Card encryption with a link to M$ developers statement about it can be found here.
My apologies. I did not realize SD encryption actually renames the files.
Guess I need to do some reading.
Thanks for the link KarhU.

No need to apologize I am no expert. But I feel sorry for the guy....
Thank you guys.... so there's no third party software that I can get to undo this problem... to allow me open this file? My husband is giving me so much grief about losing all his business contacts -- that he didn't have saved anywhere else.
Thanks again... & Happy New Year!
Hello All,
I am having a serious problem with my HTC Wizard and i want a solution for it.
I was running TNT Professional 1933 WM6 ROM on my Wizard then i found some problem with sms notification so i thought to upgrade my Rom.I took backup of my SMS with PIM 2.5 and copied the backup file into my SD Card. Then i removed the SD card and Reinstalled(upgraded) the same TNT Pro 1933 ROM.Everything went fine and the Rom installed properly. After finishing and setting up my device,i inserted the SD Card into my Device and found few files with an unknown extension. The file name were same but with an extension".86e1bece" i.e the original backup file name was 28-10-08 but it changed to "28-10-08.pib.86e1bece".These files shows an icon with a lock in PC and the extension it shows is MENC.
I searched in this forum and found few posts having same problem with a little difference but there was no solution.
I want to know how can i recover these MENC Files in order to recover my precious Data.I need an urgent help in this matter and i hope i will get your replies as soon as possible.
Thanks
Anyone out there????
same hapens to me..anyone have a solution?
I dont think a solution is available for this, they are simply encrypted via WM and its not possible to de-crypt them, unless you got the original handset and its not been hard reset! I have been looking hi and low for this and cant find anything.
I got loads of files that I cant access case I had to carry out a hard re-set.
Apparently the file is encrypted and can be decrypted only on the handset it was encrypted on.
To prevent getting such file type in the future, follow this procedure
Start>Settings>System Tab>Encryption
UnCheck on encryption and after this you will get only normal (Unencrypted file).
Another way is the activesync way. Transfer the file from the handset to pc via ActiveSync, it will automatically decrypt and paste the regular format on to your pc.
Hope it helps

I have just stumble into the same problem. I flash my HD with a new ROM and found out that all my jpg and other files were not readable.
My solution (if you will call it) is to reinstall the old ROM and unticked the encrypt memory card option. You should be able to read the menc files back from the PDA.
After that back-up all your memory card data and re-format your PDA with the new ROM.
Lastly, copy the back-up back into the memory card if anything goes wrong.
Good luck
Thanx alot bro...

That works for you?

I tried putting Rafdroid 4.2 on my hd2 and deleted everything from my sd card. But for some reason it won't work when I copy it unto my sd card. Sometimes it won't even copy & it says the file can't be located on here. (Something like that). I really want rafdroid but it doesn't seem to work. if anybody has a clue on what is wrong or what to do, please let me know asap. A video explaining how to correct everything & also install rafdroid will be really helpful. So please if you make a video I would really appreciate it. Please help me! I can't even use my phone anymore cause of this problem.

you meen that you cant copy your rom in you sdcard? try format your sd card and check again.
Yes & I dragged and dropped and it says copying but I don't see the green bar moving. Then after about 1 or 2 mins, it tells me " This is no longer located in F:\.Verify the item's location and try again.
But do note that I can only connect the USB to the computer through MAGLDR. Using "USB Mass Storage mode".
Please help me ! I need the rafdroid. Thanks
Minor update I'm no longer really needing a solution to this problem although it would be very helpful for everyone if one was found as I'm sure this has been a problem too many people at this point)
I'm over here trying to root my S6 Lite tablet without a computer just a bloody cell phone and I am oh so close but I have no way of reformatting this SD card cuz xxxxx Android wants to put it as FAT32 for god knows what reason it's an 8 gig SD card and I've even tried reformatting it in both devices I have same result Android just being stupid and I am at the end of my rope here cuz I have not been able to find any apps once so ever that actually allow me to reformat an SD card with a format of my choosing or at least one that's usable
Now please tell me that someone on this xxxxx website has a solution to this problem because once again the weird stuff I'm doing has led me down a path no one else has seemingly took
(And if anyone's asking why I'm rooting this tablet it's because Android 12 works like crap)
Mod Edit: Some content removed.
I am kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place as I have not been able to figure out any method of formatting this SD card with something usable because Android is for some unknown reason only formatting it with FAT32 despite using two different devices to attempt to format it normally and I have not been able to find a single application that exists that does not require root permissions that would allow me to change the format of the SD card I have legitimately spent like three or four hours now trying to figure something out and have come up with nothing please someone here help
I'm just going to add this year that I obviously don't have access to a computer or this wouldn't be a problem
Root your phone and use twrp to change filesystem.
But in your case when you don't want to root. Unplug SD card and connect with adapter to your pc.
Go to this computer and right click on the SD card
Click format And select filesystem
Quick format is fine
Format and when finished
Put SD card back.
Done

Both of those are a problem because I don't have a computer to use and I am trying to root my tablet and the only other device I have is an a20 cell phone that's not rooted either and I am so close but I can't Flash the modded firmware because Android is formatting the SD card with xxxx FAT32 so besides this SD card the only other option I have is to attempt to do the flash over wireless ADB I mean seriously if I had a bloody computer I would have been done like 3 days ago

trash that google did, now I do appreciate you attempting to help but I need somebody here that is a lot more knowledgeable than you
