Should I change from hd to tg01? - General Topics

Hi I have noticed that you can get a tg01 in uk for £150 on orange payg which seems really cheap and was wondering what people thought about it?
So from what I have seen tg01 has better processor and bigger screen but the phone is too big for many people as the screen is big plus it has a thick edge as well.
I supose what I would like to know is can the tg01 do any of the following?
can a new rom be loaded?
can touch flow or xperia panels be put on it?
is the touch screen good quality? is it sensitive enough?
is the battery life any good?
is the gps good?
can android be put on it?
anything else i need to know?
on another not I'm always looking for the coolest devices are there any known coming out which are better than hd2? I like the idea of milestone 2 if its real, has htc got anything coming?

custom rom = not as yet
xperia2 panels = yes
i find touchscreen very responsive best with stylus but finger touch good too
battery life depends on what you are doing mine lasts 2 days for very light use, usual use i would say needs a charge every day and if like me use fpsece alot then you will hate the battery but its comparable to most similar devices and you can always get a bigger mugen battery.
havent used gps
no android as of yet
sound quality in calls is extreemly rubbish and rintone ect very quite and srswow dont work properly, no tv out, stupid headphone connector had to buy bluetooth headphones. camera is worse then iphone
its worth £150 but depending on your budget i would go for a hd2 wish i had been more patient. as for anything new as always there will be new phones later in the year and some good ones when windows mobile 7 comes out.
dont let me put you off as i do like my tg01 and it has potential if it gets cracked for cooked roms and the expected update improves sound quality

Hi thanks for that,
I think it's prob best i just be patient and stick with my hd for now. I very much like the idea of a bigger screen and faster processor but I have become accustomed to constant rom upgrades which I might miss on the tg01.
Still at £150 just seems such a good deal. Can it be unlocked easily?
Also I think i remember seeing tf3d as a pannel for the x1 if i did get the tg01 and put x2 panels on it can tf3d be a panel?

unlocking is the usual £10 code from ebay ect,
people are getting sense2.5 from hd2 working on tg01 which im goning to try later, EDIT yes to tf3d and there are a few tweaks that improve it alot like better keyboards ect.
anyway for £150 with no contract ect i would be happy with it as its cheap enough to get a better phone when winmmo 7 comes out at the end of the year.

Considering Orbit 2...a few questions

I currently have a Blue Angel and I'm considering upgrading to an Orbit 2.
How would the performance compare between the 2? They're both 400MHz, but I just wondered how the Qualcomm is compared to the XScale?
Apart from the video driver issue, are there any other problems with it? I'd mainly be usig it for a phone, and running Tomtom.
Thanks!
Seriously... Don't bother!
LOL...it's that bad?
Can you explain why?
You will miss your qwerty. I don't know your Blue Angel, But my TC (i think all PocketPCs) has a delay when somebody calls you. Your phone will ring/vibrate after the one who calls you hears the first ring. So if somebody just gives you a call with one ring (bip) you won't hear it! Is it the same in your case, or mine is special? Maybe somebody else with TC can confirm/infirm this...
Yea, mine sort of have that sort of dealy.
I don't use my QWERTY keyboard anyway so that's not a problem.

Just everything about it...
The build quality is terrible. Feels like a new hobbyist threw it together in 5 mins.
It seriously underperforms compared to my Old SE P990i and older XDA's
The modifications o2 have made to the software are rubbish.
I'm miffed I didn't hold out for the SE X1i
^ In your opinion, yes its not perfect, the screen is less than ideal but the build quality is great I think. Much better than my old SE P series phone which used to creak whenever squeezed etc and the flush screen is better than orbit 1
But I would hold out for the Diamond
I want the built in GPS, and the Diamond prices ae too much for what it is...
Any other decent HTCs with built in GPS?

I've just switched from a Hermes/Tytn to the Orbit2. HardSPL'd it and installed the WM6.1 that's been floating about here and installed TomTom.
Losing the keyboard is a bit annoying (on screen is usable, but nowhere near as good) - but I realized I very rarely typed anything and smaller sized massively outweighs it.
GPS works very well - especially as Quick GPS which really does work.
Downsides:
Lost keyboard.
Upsides:
GPS - now just not having to lug around and charge my BT GPS module, but now much faster and lets me do all manner of stuff (geo-tag photos with a reg tweak), GPS trackers allowing me to see where I've been in google maps blah blah.
Much better camera - not so much the 2M -> 3M change - but AUTOFOCUS.
SMALLER - now it's not a small phone, but it's not an f'in brick like the last one.
No real difference noticed between the processors. Latest 6.1 I put on my Hermes made it lovely and snappy - and performs exactly the same on the Polaris. Only reservation I've got with the polaris is the screen res (i.e. same old rubbish). Not entirely convinced Hi-res WM is much better though after playign with colleagues PDAs - I've got an ipod touch and THAT is what i'd want somehow wedged into my phone..
In summary, if you want a phone now, I'd definitely get the XDA. If you can wait maybe see how Diamond and 3G iPhone stack up.
#edit - and build quality on my XDA (at least) is perfect. Nice solid feeling thing, love the slightly rubberized case.
Thanks very much for your opinion...I think I might just go with the Orbit 2 after all...a VGA screen would be nice, but I'm happy enough to have the standard one...and it's a little smaller than my BLue Angel so that's always a benefit.
Seriously this is an outstanding device. Software is software and any issues can 99% of the time be sorted with it and normally are, especially when you browse around these forums. Also bare in mind that all these devices now use windows mobile so I don't understand why someone would fault the Orbit 2 over another windows mobile device because of the software it comes with.....anyway the hardware itself is exceptional, I've posted a mini review if you look through my post history and there's plenty of in-depth reviews out there.
Losing the keyboard is a good thing in my opinion. A keyboard isn't necessary, its just as easy (if not easier) to use the software input (my personal preference is a T9 style pad that learns words and is very quick to use with just one hand like a normal phone) and obviously you save on weight and bulk.
The Orbit 2 looks great, is extremely responsive and comfortable to use and in my opinion is the best windows mobile device availible at this time.
Quick edit! - regarding the SW, the rom that the O2 Orbit 2 comes with is actually fine anyway, i've never encountered any issues with it - it would be nice to have the threaded SMS that 6.1 has but aside from that its fine and works great. Cheers!
SOunds like you're pretty damn happy with it then
So the 200MHz processor isn't an issue? Still responds well? Thing like TOmtom run well?
The Orbit 2 has a 400MHz CPU, it was the original Orbit that had 200 -it also has twice the amount of memory. TomTom was perfectly useable on the original Orbit but it noticeably runs smoother on the Orbit 2 - The Orbit 2 is a lot better at managing multiple tasks at the same time.
I was in two minds before upgrading becasue I had the original Orbit and wasn't sure if I'd get my money's worth. I was going to send it back if I wasn't happy with it. I'm more than happy with it though as you can tell! its a great device. You've always got that 14 day cooling period with O2 anyway so you may as well give it a go for yourself.
doh...you're right...I was thinking of the original Orbit.
No 14 day cooling off for me..I'm in Australia so the only way to get at a decent price is eBay.
I think I've been convinced to get the Orbit 2...just a pity it doesn't have VGA...and the diamond will probably be a fair amount more than the Orbit 2
Actually a the Diamond will be cheaper then the Polaris/Orbit2... But my oppinion is that the VGA is too much on a 2.8" screen...
The Orbit 2 is a damn good toy... after tuning the cache and graphic settings..speed was even better than before..
also gps works great...a lot of stuff in a small little case...
I am also happy with my orbit 2, copilot in mo is better then tomtom i have both installed.
I like golive's interface and extra settings plus the website for tracking is a good feature.
The Software available is none stop from here and other sources, unlike the iphone i had that you could only load decentish software if you hacked it..
a couple of minor gripes, the screen is a little shiny for sunny day use and the camera could be alot better.
apart from that i am very happy with it, let hops the diamond touch flo 3d becomes available then that will make this device look great.
the hsdpa speed is great when in the right areas, 50k download speed from my laptop...
the gps seems acurate enough, fast on a warm start as well.
its performance could be a little better but overall its very good.
I would install opera mini as i have found this much better then ie and opera mobile for day to day use.
as for the missing keyboard, try touchpal or the diamond keyboards, also make sure you adjust the sensivity of the screen do a search on here, i think the keyboard is great been software as you can load loads of different types and type quicker with the stylus on some over a flip out keyboard.
the flip out keyboard types can be a little thicker as well you cannot replace or remap keys like a software keyboard so there are plus's and minus's to both concepts...
if you type alot then get a bluetooth keyboard, or a laptop.....
i don't think you will b unhappy with your purchase...
Actually imho any HTC device when just introduced will very rarely be upto my expectation and initially i am always dissapointed, for the first few days, its just a matter of customizing(a heart felt thanks to this forum for teaching us how too) to our personal choice and then i just can't seem to live without them. When i took the Cruise i returned it the next day, very dissapointed with the handset, nothing it could do(and in the factory state it could'nt domuch)was enough,I thought that my Kaiser was far better, then after going through the Cruise forum went and picked it up again, customized it and now wonder how did I ever think negatively abbout this handset,I just love it the feel of it in my hand and also the perfomance, ended up keeping both the Kaiser and Cruise without regrets.

Why buy the Diamond 2? (HTC Touch HD VS Diamond 2)

Recently i've been noticing a huge fuss about the HTC Diamond 2.. I mean have you people seen the Specs? Why would anyone buy this phone over the Touch HD?
The HD features says it all!! :
- HD has a bigger screen
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- more battery life (1350mAh)
- Slimmer
- Already has Diamond 2's interface updates.
Diamond 2:
- Zooming Bar? The phone would be smaller without it, or maybe increase the screen size instead.. This bar is useless!! Maybe great for Arkanoid (The Game)? ;-)
- Battery Cover isn't shaped like a diamond anymore, and there goes the name..
- No camera flash.. AGAIN!!
- No Headphone jack
- Battery is 1100mAh
- Should've came out in December or with the HD in November.
- Not a competitor with the head to head clash of phones this year.
The first Diamond was way ahead of all devices last year, It was phone of the year 2008!!.. :'(
Let me know what you guys think..
Thats true, and the reason why Im gonna keep my Omnia. But the Firestone and Thor seem to be the only phones with real updates. Cant wait till they come out.
About the specs, what is it with HTC ? Why does the video recording suck sooo much ? Hope they give recording at 720p on the Firestone or Thor (Omnia HD anyone ?). Otherwise I might have to go Symbian and I hate Symbian.

HD's Price is dropping down now..
These are the prices where I live:
Touch HD: € 589,-
Touch Diamond2: € 457,-
That's allmost 30% more.. for only a little more screen and a little bigger battery (what is indeed something I dont like much, but it's allready a better battery then the Diamond)
My choice is made i go for the Diamond2

The price tag for the diamond was € 280 before it was released.. it was then sold for € 420 - 460.
Before the HD was out it was priced € 480, and now like my friend FRD666 is saying its 589..
The point is its too early to know, and based by the price tags from previous HTC releases, Diamond 2's price will be more than what it is shown around.. And until it is out, how much would the HD be then?
Well if you're in the US like me, the HD will not work on AT&T's 3G network, which can be quite an inconvenience for people like me who are ALWAYS getting email, downloading huge files, watching online videos and just surfing the net. However, unless I am mistaken, the Diamond2 will be officially released in the US, which means AT&T's 3G network would be supported, which is a good thing. Although other than that, I understand what you're getting at.
Dave
Indeed, HTC just cased the HD in a new shiny box and started selling a new phone.
I hope to get my "diamond 2" in the next day or so...
But I can only see points in this thread that...well seem to miss the point!
OK...Battery:
Sure the HD has a bigger battery capacity but then again it has a bigger screen so the extra capacity in it is probably just to handle the screen requirements!
The backlight in a large LCD like that along with the extra touch sensors, display area, etc would warrant easily for that extra bit of battery life.
You put a 1100 in a HD and it won't last long - ok.... But a 1100 in a Diamond2 is probably letting it last just as long as the HD does with a 1350 as it uses less power!
We cannot tell until someone can test the Diamond2 in the SAME way as the HD...and I mean down the firmware, apps ...heck even the same touch points!
I can probably do this for you once I get my diamond2 as I do repairs on these units and will have access to the diamond2, HD and other units.
Onto point 2...Bigger screen.
For me...I want something portable...sure the iPhone and HD screen is lovely to look at....but for ME, the novelty wore off there. I put it in my pocket and I feel I need an extra belt just to hold my trousers up. The Diamond2 should be pocketable even in a shirt pocket as was the Diamond1... I can't do that with a HD.
For me... I want a phone that still feels like a phone and the diamond1 did it for me for almost a year (I've never kept a phone that long!)
The Diamond2 should still do this for me.
3.5mm jack... I've never needed this to be honest.
I have never found the need of using my HTC devices as a music device. At work, I have a headphone port in the laptop/desktop.
In the car, I have a 16GB USB stick with music plugged into the car.
At the gym, I would never take my phone out of its case in risk of it falling/loosing it and use a Sony MP3 player.
Slimmer: Not by much (if at all!) and is easily comparable for the height which then brings me back to the bigger screen...with the diamond2, I potentially should still be able to hold it nicely and snugly in my hand - like a phone... when I hold the HD, I don't feel comfortable with it - not over a long period of time and my calls can run into the hours!
Zoom bar - don't dis it until you use it... It might be a waste of space - to be honest, I think it looks ugly but it might prove to be very useful. I liked the zoom on the Diamond1 by turning your finger on the circle but found it to be eratic when it was loading pages...maybe this is the solution - who knows.
Battery Cover: You can't live with it, you can't live without it - it seems! There were hundreds of critics complaining about the back cover on the Diamond1 on how bad it was, couldnt lay it flat, g-sensor would not be correct etc etc etc and now you're complaining ? :- )
In all fairness to HTC... the code name is Topaz, I think the media just decided to call it the Diamond2 as it is closer to the Diamond2 in size etc
My only annoyance potentially is with the iPhone which is releasing its new OS etc... could this suddenly bring the Diamond2 even on a 6.5 firmware back in the dark ages?
These are my personal opinions but I feel the arguement between the two units is not that valid and is more like comparing a Lambo with a Aston Martin DB9 rather than a Ferrari with a Lambo
All 3 are sport cars but the DB9 and Lambo are very different cars
I like the advantages the diamond 2 has for the US users, at least that's a change..
I appreciate your opinion akash_84, I'm used to small slim phones, and my last one was the first Diamond.. But now having the HD around, i realized its a new experience.. Suddenly i like using internet surfing allot, writing notes, ms Office, watching movies and playing games.. Diamond 2's screen will be very good too, and the battery capacity is for the screen functionality like you say, it makes sense to me now..
First i thought of the HD as a big phone which would bother me having it in my pocket like you say.. But i was amazed of how comfortable it is.. To me i didn't notice any difference when i check if my phone is in my pocket or not between the diamond and the HD, I remember feeling the diamond shape edges battery cover in my pocket to check if it's there..
Even though they changed the battery cover shape, it's named Topaz as some kind of diamond shaped rock, so why make it normal now?.. I liked the touch pro cover, material was great..
Can Diamond 2 compete this year like the first did last year? HTC will release much better phones later..
This year will be the only year that i buy an HTC device by the end of the year..
Good point actually... Topaz is actually another type of stone which only just struck me!
However, looking at the pictures, the flat surfaces followed by curved edges almost imitates the "diamond2"
well tomorrow is the release date for it so lets see what happens!

apparently you've got the HD, because i have the Diamond 2 and i love it!
Its much better then the HD ( wich is to big!!! ) Smartphones are supposed to be smaller.
Video recording is much better with the Diamond 2 in comparison with the Diamond
Who? I have a Diamond2 ... first one to get it on here I think...or maybe second because I missed the morning delivery
Loving the diamond apart from a badly applied screen protector so just waiting for my Brando one

i will do it tonight.. the video resolution is 640 x 480 according to HTC
If you want an example video, Pocketnow.com (my favorite WM news site with videos, news, reviews, etc.) posted this example video online.
Just download it, and if you get a security warning like I did, it's nothing. The site is extremely trustworthy, and I scanned it a bunch and it came back clean, and played fine. The full Diamond review is here, and apparently he likes is a lot.
It also seems to get better benchmarks in performance than the Touch HD. You can also check out the Pocketnow youtube channel, which now has a couple of Diamond2 videos. I'm holding out for the Pro2, but this device is really nice looking.
Dave
Finally VGA (640x480) video ! Tough other manufactures are going for D1 (720x480) and 720p (1280x720), but still nice improvment.
[q]
- HD has a bigger screen
- more battery life (1350mAh)
Diamond 2:
- Battery is 1100mAh
[/q]
The screen takes up a huge fraction of the power, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that the Diamond has better battery life even with a smaller capacity battery because it also has a smaller screen.
I'm using the Diamond 2 ROM on the touch HD, The camera too (No VGA capture though)..
Guys, I just need to know:
- How many free ram and rom are use and free in the memory on the diamond 2?
- And regarding the benchmarks, has anyone played Divx (.avi) files yet?
I use Coreplayer 1.3 and it plays Divx smoothly on the Touch HD..
- How loud is the speaker phone on real ringtones?
- Is it easy and finger-accurate when using the Full QWERTY Keyboard?
Well it turns out i was wrong and this was the first that an HTC phone came out cheaper than expected... ;-)
Please share any interesting experience you find so far with the device..
Thank you all..
Regards....

should i get Toshiba tG 01

I might trade my htc hero for a Toshiba tG 01, is it better than the hero? want to hear some opinions before i make my mind.
thanks.
one word 'snapdragon' says it's better
Depends what you into, do you like customizing device? If so the TGO1 is a no go @ the moment "no custom ROMs"
Best bet is to play with a TGO1 before you do.
I'd stick with HTC Hero as not so fussed about processor more about customization and brand
only think that turns me away is no headphone jack on the tg01, other than that it's one sexy device
As mentioned, the best way is to go to a store and try one on for size.
TG01 has a bad connotation of being laggy for a snapdragon handset, but it seems that the modding community has fixed most of the problem, so you can get a cheap phone with nice speed.
I've got a TG01 and I bought it over there Hero.
I am pushing for a custom ROM, and that's the only thing that bugs me about the phone.
It's Fast, very responsive and the resistive touch screen is super sensitive, or can be calibrated not to be. The GPS works awesome, but it doesn't communicate through a COM port, it's a GPD port, so you need third party software for most GPS programs. I use Garmin and it works great without any other additions.
I say get the Tg01, unless it'll drive you insane not having a cooked ROM
I have had 2 of the TG01's and thought that they were pretty good phones. Windows 6.5 made a big improvement over the first one I had which had 6.1 on it. I also had better overall performance with it after I put SPB Mobile shell on it instead of using the Tosh UI that comes on it.
But as was said here a post or 2 back, if you want to put a custom rom on it, you will not be happy at this time as there are none available yet.
Later
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Call quality is really cr*p and it has many bugs none of them can be sorted as there arn't any developers for it at the moment. Handset feels cheap and enormous. For the price there not bad on Orange UK there £150 but they dropped the price probably because they wanted to get rid of all the refurbs I sent back Went and bought a HD2 similar phone but leagues ahead. Stick with the hero the snapdragon processor is no better than a 200 mhz one because of the shody material there made of.

What HTC to buy?

Hi all,
I don't know if it's the rigth forum section to write... but...
I had an HTC Wizard (QTek9100) with WM5.0... I use it to call (I synchronize my contact using gmail), write some SMS (very useful the qwert keyboard), play some game, and as navigator by TomTom sw and external GPS.
I would like to change it... and I'm interested (for the price also) to two different HTC phone: Diamond and Tattoo (HTC Click).
The price is about the same (diamond is slightly cheaper).
I think that Diamond is very good (above all for VGA display, but resistive), but I read that it has some battery problem.
Tattoo has more ram, no problem about battery, no limit about storage expansion, but a little resistive display (240x320 I think is the smallest resolution for a Android device).
Android make me curious, but I would like above all a device reliable for my standard operation (so the battery is important also)...
I would like to use it to navigate, but I hasn't a flat mobile connection yet (in my country our company are very slow to follow the people needs )... I hope to get a mobile flat in the next month.
I'm also a sw developer... so in the free time I would like to write some program for my phone... but... the free time is very scarce...
But...
What do you think abou my needs?
Is a good idea to buy a diamond, or a Tatto is better?
Thanks
Both are good devices and will cater for your needs, but my only question is why not go for a newer, more advanced device? (Obviously I realize cost is an issue)
Yes... you're right... I'm searching for a cheaper solution...
I'm worried for what I read about the diamond battery... and I think that Android can be interesting... but the Android display make me unhappy...
get a kaiser if you want cheap and good. they can be had for quite cheap. i will sell you mine for $110 plus shipping. but only if you are located in the usa.

I was just in the same situation as you, I wanted a keyboard & budget would allow me to look at the touch pro 2. But I found the build quality on the new HTcs simply very poor so went backwards & settled for the Raphael which can be found cheap.
If you can find a Raphael in your budget I would go for it over the diamond. The diamond is a nice sized device but the d-pad is not the best, battery life is not the best but a lot of the big complainers have issues due to custom rom problems.
I had the Kaiser before, nice device, good battery life & superb build quality.
Diamond or Raphael would be my choices bang for buck !.

Really thanks for your suggestions.
Speaking about new phones (in the showcase of some shop) I found a Raphael. It's a little bit larger than diamond... and more expensive: 300 € vs 200 (for Diamond or Click).
Do you really think that HTC quality is decreased? So you think that Click are only an expensive toy?
Do you think that using a better battery I can solve the problem without make the phone very large?
i had the rapheal, and i loved it while i was using it. it was a huge improvement over my wing i will say tho the battery life did kinda suck but it didnt bother me that much, a car charger helped me with that i wouldnt go for the diamond just because it doesnt have a querty keyboard. i cant stand touch screen keyboards, so thats y i would go for the rapheal. another great device to look into that u could find cheap on craigslist or something would b the touch pro 2. i have that phone now. its got way better battery life then the rapheal. the keyboard is better to, the rapheal buttons are really small and it could b agravating sometimes. the touch pro 2 has a nice large touch screen display, tf3d seems alot more responsive, theres alot of nice stable roms available, from having both phones i can tell u that the touch pro 2 is deffinitly a faster more stable device with good battery life, and if all else fails u can run andriod on it too if i were u the touch pro 2 is prob only gonna b alil bit more then the rapheal and i can tell u that the extra 50 bucks will be well worth it good luck wih ur find

i had the rapheal, and i loved it while i was using it. it was a huge improvement over my wing i will say tho the battery life did kinda suck but it didnt bother me that much, a car charger helped me with that i wouldnt go for the diamond just because it doesnt have a querty keyboard. i cant stand touch screen keyboards, so thats y i would go for the rapheal. another great device to look into that u could find cheap on craigslist or something would b the touch pro 2. i have that phone now. its got way better battery life then the rapheal. the keyboard is better to, the rapheal buttons are really small and it could b agravating sometimes. the touch pro 2 has a nice large touch screen display, tf3d seems alot more responsive, theres alot of nice stable roms available, from having both phones i can tell u that the touch pro 2 is deffinitly a faster more stable device with good battery life, and if all else fails u can run andriod on it too if i were u the touch pro 2 is prob only gonna b alil bit more then the rapheal and i can tell u that the extra 50 bucks will be well worth it good luck wih ur find

Thank you to.
However I bought the Diamond... I get in my hands Diamond and Click... and Click seems me a real toy.
Now I'm using the Diamond, but I'm not really satisfied: the UMTS signal is very low...
Try changing radio version, also check & update ROM if can.
You have a few options on battery upgrades from standard size with a little extra power to simply quite huge & twice the size of standard.
I think you will miss the keyboard.
Touch Pro 2 is more than 50bucks more than a Raphael ! the hardware is good but the build quality & style can be beat by ToyzRus !! Got 3 falling to bits in our office.
Good choice you made.
The diamond is an incredible device, and its quality is much better than the click.
Try the radio version found in my signature, it has good battery life and signals (such as umts and gps) are great. It's the most popular radio for the diamond.
For the keyboard, I suggest you download Fingerkeyboard, which is a very accurate keyboard. It works great on my diamond.

Reccomend a Phone thread

Hi folks, you know the drill, my current phone (an HTC Mogul) is getting past it's usefulness and once more I find myself on a hunt to find a phone that has the most of what I do want and the least of what I don't, in other words the best compremise between the device of my dreams and what's actually avaliable.
Further to this I am limited in funds so not only can I not go out and purchase a brand new top of the line model, the device I do end up getting will hopefully last me for a long time (or at least longer then the 1yr I got out of my Mogul).
Perhaps I should start by looking at why my current phone just doesn't do it for me anymore?
1) No wireless - Ever since I flashed it to 6.5 I have had no wifi.
2) No 3.5mm plug - The HTC proprieity adapter hardly works half the time either.
3) OS - 6.5 WiMo flashed is pretty unstable, I regularly have to reset the device because it locks up or just won't work.
4) QVGA - probably the best I can afford, but I do a lot of reading on this and a higher res would be better for my eyes.
5) CDMA - I really need a quadband simcard capable phone.
So what do I want?
1) Wifi, bluetooth, GPS
2) 2mp camera or better
3) 6.5 Wimo native, preferably with duel boot capibility
4) 3.5 or 2.5mm audio output, or HTCusb that actually works!
5) Keyboard if possible (I really like the qwerty thumboard on my Mogul)
6) WVGA or VGA would be nice, but it might be out of my price point.
7) GSM QUADBAND!
Any reccomendations of models would be nice, thankyou
Go for Rhodium!
Definitely the best hardware device out there
If want to spent less money you can try Rapahel or even less (if you find someone who want to sell) Universal
Thanks for the recc, I will check those two out
I agree with ORB you should go for a Rapahel because it has so many roms to flash and it is cheap compared to the latest devices .

Hmm, looking at ebay, the Rhod looks like its about $100 more then the Raph
or $300 for the Touch2 and $210 for the Raph.
At those prices it seems like it would be better just to pay the difference?
Also no one will ship to New Zealand
Yes on that case better go for Rhodium
I have seen ebay sellers who ships to almost any part of the world.
Also have a look on marketplace section, you can find very good deals
Good luck,
UPDATE: I bought myself a HTC Rhodium, very happy with it.
Now, I want to buy my GF a new phone for her birthday. Currenty she is using my ****ty old Blue Angel with WiMo 6.1
She uses the phone everyday (carries it around in her bag), but the only thing she does on it is read. She sometimes sends text messages, but usually not. She hasn't really used any of its other features or installed her own programs or anything (she is a programmer, so she does have the skills to do so).
At the moment I'm tossing up between a HTC Diamond, Diamond 2, Touch HD and another Rhodium. I'm leaning more toward the Diamond1 though. We generally try to avoid spending lots and she's more then happy with the PDA2k so even the diamond is a big upgrade and isn't too expensive.
I use my Rhodium to read alot of comics, but at 480x640 the screen should be highres enough to be an improvement. The other reason I'm leaning toward the Diamond is because of it's small size, and easier for her to carry around.
So, my question: Is there anything wrong with the Diamond that I should consider, and are there any other devices with VGA or better resolution in a similar price range that I should take a look?
Also what is the difference between the Touch Pro and the Diamond (besides the keyboard)?
If you need keyboard go for Raphael, if you don´t need it go for Diamond 2, I buyed one in marketplace for 180US a few months ago.
Or take another Rhodium
Why the recommendations for Rapheal? I am ready to put mine through a wall. The keyboard has gone flaky in the last three months...(delete requires holding down, not just press, P has started to not work, space now triple spaces)
In addition the screen started to separate over the 'x' button about two months back, now I hve that leaky black spot you get when screens break. The control pad at bottom has started to have the plastic cover start to come up.
In the last month the phone has decided to start dropping calls and even losing towers completely. (I have not changed anything on phone in over 6 months) I have rebooted the phone at least 10 times in last three weeks because of screen starting lock up, non-responsive push buttons, and complete lost of tower without attempting to reaquire.
This phone is going tits-up recently and I have had it locked to Edge forever because it will not hold a 3G signal in a very large city.
Not a recommend from me.
Thanks for the reccomendatiom - and the non recccomendation ^_^;
(silly extra text because my message was too short)
Ok, at this stage I am leaning toward the HTC Touch. The touch is fatter, but it looks like it has a lot more memory which has surely got to result in a better user experiance. It's about the same price as a diamond as well - I just have to find someone on here to sell a raphael to me.
I have a moderately worn Tmo Touch Pro 2 I'm selling off on ebay later today. Only doing a 3 day auction starting at $0.99. If interested I'll post a link. Pics are great of the scratches so you can probably grab it for $125-$150.
a link sounds good

Oh how I remember my HTC Touch days. That phone & the Mogul were a nightmare for many of us & we couldn't get rid of it fast enough.

What where the main issues you had with it?
I've just upgraded from my mogul to the touch2, and the main issue I had with the mogul was the low res and slow processor compared to the touch 2, but overall it was a good phone.
NEED ANDROID PHONE WITH Qwerty keyboard
I'm looking for a new phone to replace my aging G1 but I dont want to give up the real keyboard. The mytouch slide is nice but it's hardware isn't on par with nexus one or htc incredible. The new Samsung Galaxy S Pro with sprint seems promising but not so sure about community support. I love how with my G1 I have so many options, so many great ROMs from Cyanogen and others on XDA. I'm worried that If I go with a samsung I will have better hardware but very few choices when it comes to moded roms. Is there an alternative phone out there with hardware on par with the latest HTC phones that have a slide out keyboard. Any one care to offer thier opinions??
whats your budget?
android or wimo?
