Hey all,
Planning on upgrading my Orange c600 smartphone to the T-mobile MDA Pro when my contract runs out on the 27th. Got a couple of small Qs which I could really use answers to before I buy tho if you don't mind. Thanks for any response!
1) Is the WM5 on the MDA Pro the same as the smartphone version? There are little things that dont exist on the smartphone version which bug me because I used to have them on the PDA version, like can you choose to save emails onto the SD card? You can't on my c600.
2) Im buying this MDA PRO straight from T-mobile, which new ROM would you recommend me using?
3) Are there any idiotproof guides to unlocking or modifiying your MDA PRO?
4) I have noticed on forums in general that more poeple seem to have the 02 Exec or the M5000 than the MDA pro. Why is that? Is there any major difference in S/W?
Thanks for all your comments guys,
Cheers,
Julian
1-) I've been using T-mobile MDA vario for 4 months. I love it. Now, I want to buy the same phone for my sister. However, I am not sure which one to buy. Cingular 8125 or T-Mobile Mda vario. As far as I know they are pretty much the same phones, however, there might be some littlie difference that I don't know. If anyone know what the differences are please help me to choose. (differences not including the appearences of the phones)
2-) I am also not sure why Mda costs a little bit more than the 8125.(compared prices at ebay) I would appreciate if someone could explain me this point too.
ok, the reason the 8125 cost less then the MDA is because theres the 8525 out now for cingular, therefore people dont want the old stuff, they want the new stuff...whereas the MDA's successor hasnt come out in the US so MDA is the only one of its kind...now as for the differences besides the body, the device is CID and SIM locked to Cingular, but you can change that buy unlocking it...umm no other differences, besides that MDA and 8125 come in G3 and G4...

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure about the last thing you said. DO you say that MDA always comes in G3 and the 8125 comes with G4?
If not, then is there any way to determine if the phone is G3 or G4 when buying it? I mean I can find out if it is G3 or G4 if I use and see the phone, however, when buying it online I don't have an opportunity to look at IPL and SPL.
I personally would like G3, since there much less problems with it when flashing a ROM.
im saying that both devices can come in both G4 or G3...a G4 device will show an IPL/SPL similar to 2.21.0001 and a G3 will show something similar to 2.21 (notice the G3 doesn't have the trailing .0001!) and u can see this when u do a softreset on the device, the numbers will show up in the top left in red....

Yes, but if I am buying the device online, I can't check if it is G3 or G4 before I buy it, right?
im afraid not, unless you are getting it from eBay or something, you can ask the seller to check for you

I don't know if you would call my opinion more of looks as it is "functionality". But you have a MDA, so i think you could relate:
The keyboard on the MDA is by far more efficient to use than the 8125 (sorry 8125 owners). The buttons are separated and aren't merged together. The tactile buttons on the face of the device are more convenient, because they are easily accessible with the fingers. Unlike the 8125 which are small and on the four corners, the MDA has larger buttons, great for those who have small or big fingers
However, software/roms will operate the same on both devices, as roms are built for either devices.
I owned the MDA before, and I recently purchased the NEW 8525. The 8525 very much reminds me of the 8125 keyboard, as all the keyboard buttons are touching (really annoying). Also, there is no quotation key (") on the keyboard which i use during text messages when i'm quoting someone. Personally, if they could hyrbidize the MDA keyboard with the speed of the 8525 I would be one happy guy!
(please read above carefully, do not mix my comments about the 8125 with 8525)
Cingular Refurbish G3
fyi... i just got a cingular 8125 (refurbished version) off the website. it is the G3 version. not sure if they are all that way though....
im new this
and i got my first pad (mda compact)
and i was looking for new roms to try out on my mda but most of here dont work
does anyone on here got or know some where i get some roms 2 try out?
that will defenitly work on my mda
I believe the device you have is a HTC Magician (the model ID of your tmobile MDA Compact)
best place to start is the magician forums here
Hey guys,
I have watched and read this forum for about 3 years, upgrading and modding my Cingular 2125 as things changed. I have ran into a bit of a problem with my phone recently and I am debating buying a new lcd and battery or just buying a "new" phone. And by new, I mean another of the same, I love this phone too much to upgrade to a new model. So my question is: I am on the Cingular/ATT network here in the U.S. and like I said, I have the Cingular 2125(Faraday). I was wondering if, in order for it to work on the same network, do I have to buy another 2125 or can I possibly buy a Tornado and thus get the WiFi? Do they all take Sim cards in the same manner? I have searched for this question but couldnt find a clear-cut answer.
Thanks in advance.
Buy a Tornado and unlock it using the unlocking software provided in this forum. Easy as pie and you'll have wifi. Also once unlocked, you'll be able to use the same sim card as you're using now.
Get a Tornado off of eBay. Search of an iMate SP5, a Qtek 8310/8300, or a Dopod (I forget the model). Qtek and Dopod are HTC's old brand names. I bought the Qtek 8310 for like $400 new several years ago. It was an awesome phone, so I understand your interest in keeping it. Both the iMate and the Qtek variations come unlocked and without any carrier bloatware. They will also work perfectly with Cingular/ATT (I know from experience).
As an aside, as much as I loved the Tornado, I don't regret upgrading to my current WM Professional phone, an HTC Touch Cruise, at all...just something to keep in mind if you don't mind spending a bit more.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. Bought a new battery for mine which helped fix the power problem and the screen is a bit blurry in spots but usable, but if it gets too bad I will look for one of these other tornados that you suggested.
Hello,
I have recently bought a MDA Vario IV, but I don't see the name of it at the HTC Touch Pro section, I am not sure anymore, Is the Vario IV the same as the Touch Pro or is it different? Should I just use my Vario IV like a Touch pro?(Cooking roms, Radio's etc. works?) And if its the same, are there even small hardware differences?
Thanks for reading,
-Armazia
they are the same like how the at&t has the fuze...t-mobile has a different name

i have a MDA vario IV too, and its practicly the same with HTC touch pro, it only have the answer and hang up buttons in different positions, i installed a Touch pro ROM with windows 6.5 and it worked fine, but remember that u have a GSM phone and not a CDMA if u will search for new ROMs
