Orange SPV M5000 hangs - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

Hi!
I am facing problem with my Orange SPV M5000. The device hangs up. I have to reset the device and after the Windows splsh screen a blank page appears and the device hangs. I have to take the battery and the Sim from the phone and then without putting in the Sim restarts the phone. It, then, behaves normally and boots properly. Then I put the Sim again and restarts the device and then it boots normally.
I have flashed the device with a number of cooked ROMs and the result is the same. I have noticed that normally this happens whenever I put my device in the pocket of my trouser and on certain other occassions as well. Have already get my device checked for any loose connections. Everything seems in order.
I would appreciate if I am guided on this.
Regards,
Haque

Hi!
Yes, have Doc Formatted the device as well between flashing, but the results are the same.

try
Try following method:
1. Doc Format
2. Flash WM5 (one with SDHC support)
3. Make HR while on WM5
4. Re-flash cooked ROM (I'll suggest Goldrake WM6.1 )

Hey Guys!
Where are the experts? I am desperately needing help. My device is mal-functioning. I have tried everything I thought of. Please, Please, Please somebody help me out.

I do not consider myself an "expert", but have you tried replacing the battery?
Just trying to eliminate possible causes.

Hi! Orb! Thanks for the tip. Haven't tried as yet but I will do this. A brief of the issue for more clarity:
I have got my device's RAM upgraded and it worked perfectly alright with flashing and testing of one version or another. No issue at all at that time.
The problem started from the time, I first DOC formatted and flashed the ROM by Tomal. The command I used was TASK 32 and the TASK 28 55aa as stated in the instructions using MTTY 1.42. Since then, I was not even able to run WM5 (but the other cooked versions worked fine). Have tried skiping the screen calibaration process using some utility and found that WM5 worked good but once a soft reset is done or the device is switched off, the screen does not appear. Once flashed with WM5, after the device logo screen, either a white or a colored screen appears or after the windows splash screen preventing the OS to boot up and the processes after that. While installing any other ROM, the device worked 100% okay.
Afterwards, I noticed that the device started to hang up even using any ROM despite a number of soft/ hard resets. Have also noticed that the device started malfunctioning and does not boot when the SIM is inserted. After trying for a few times the device starts working with the SIM. Once the device is restarted even with full 100% battery the blank screen appears and the device does not go beyond this. Taking the battery off for a couple of minutes will help the device to boot properly but after a number of tries.
Have Doc formatted the device a number of times, hard resetted but to no use. Installed almost every cooked version the result is the same. Even got the device checked by the mobile repair shop and it was said that the device is okay hardware-wise and if it is mis-behaving it is because of the software.
Guys I need help to save my device.
Regards,
Haque

Well,,I'm not an expert too.. But from your story it looks like something is wrong, either with your device (some intermittent problem with SIM card circuit inside) or the SIM card it self. Why not you try to change the SIM card first? To make sure that there are no problems with your device, bring it to HTC authorized service center..

64k simcard problems! WAS: Danish ROM for S710?

I've been flashing around with english roms to see if it changed the bloody problem with the phone going into a reboot loop if a SD card is inserted.
This didn't fix it, and now there's apparantly no danish rom available from Telia, and since this isn't a Dangaard branded phone I dont have access to the ROMS on www.qtek.dk :-(
If anyone has a nordic rom of sorts, please save me from binning the phone
Edited the title to make more sense now
If ur phone only reboots with sd card inserted it means something on the sd card is causing it. Format your sd card on a PC and try again.
That's obviously the first thing that came to my mind aswell. I've tried formatting it, I've tried using a different card, etc. No use. Ends up in the reboot loop with a card inserted, boots fine without it. I can then insert the card after the device has booted without problems, but next time WM6 hangs or whatever, same problem.
Have u tried resetting the device by pressing left and right softkey simultaneously and then power on? Alternatively try the clear memory program in the experts folder.
Tried hardresseting it and using the clear memory program yes
Well then it can only be a hw defect. Get it serviced.
I've read others have this problem aswell on some of their phones. I can't really turn it in for service with a non-nordic rom anyway, so if noone has a nordic ROM they can share I'll prolly end up whacking it with a hammer...
Is your device CID unlocked and can you flash any ROM?
Have you tried flashing the Dopod 1.19 ROM?
What exact ROM version was on it (version#)? Did you then down- or upgrade it and to which version? Did you make a backup of the ROM using pdocread as described in the wiki?
I would leave the hammer in ur toolbox for now. I'm pretty sure the thing can be rescued if it is indeed caused by a bad flash.
The problem wasn't caused by a bad flash, I bought it secondhand only about 2 months old, and it's had it straight out of the box. Obviously the seller didn't know anything about it having this quirk...
I tried flashing it with the 1.19 dopod ROM (Had 1.14 nordic ROM initially), still same problem. I did a backup with pdocread, but can't make pdocwrite work, complains it can't write to the filesystem.
Since your device is obviously CID unlocked, it looks feasible to create a flashable file from your pdocread backup. Take a look at my bootloader thread, there is a link to another thread where that is covered.
I personally believe the previous owner CID unlocked your device and maybe it didn't completely work in the way it should. Please make a backup using "bkondisk" and post the IPL (128kB) and the SPL (512kB). I can check these files, perhaps the hw is not properly set up by any of these.
Isn't the IPL and SPL replaced in the standard RUU flashes?
Normally yes, but in ur case maybe it is skipped.
Why don't u dump it so we can check it.
Radio is also interesting.
Have DK ROM - will give
Drop me a mail. Then we an figure out how to get it to you.
This is the file.
ruu_vox_htc_noric_1.15.402.4_4.1.13.37_02.83.90_ship.exe
would be nice if you upload it to XDA developers FTP site

Great! I've sent you a PM, can't get your email from this board
I've now flashed it back to the danish rom, and done some further testing.
I've found out that the phone boots fine with either the simcard OR the SD card inserted, but not both at the same time.
I've also found out that this problem seems to be a problem with 64k simcards, and not 32k simcards.
With a 32k simcard everything is just peachy.
Anyone got suggestions?
Edited the title to make more sense now
Seems that both 64k sim and sd cards draw too much current.
Looks like a HTC design flaw.
Did u try other sd cards?
Tried another 1gb card, they're both Kingston though. Both work fine in my P4350 / Herald.
Try with another brand and smaller sd card.
And now that you have your nordic rom back on, I'd also request service from HTC.

ERROR [260] Connection installing WM 6.1??? what to do?

Need More Info
We need more info to properly troubleshoot...
Make of phone (TyTn II, Tilt, Vario III, etc)
If you are trying to use this rom on anything other than an unbranded HTC TyTn II, then it will not work unless you have used HardSPL to remove carrier branding first.
Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369282 for more info.
260 errors are usually related to USB port access. If you are using McCafee or Firewall software, you will have problems unless you disable or gifve full access.
Again, to quote NotATreo, more info will help, but consider temporarily disabling firewall or virus software.
Thanks guys
Its the HTC TyTn II and the rom im trying to flash is the 1 released by HTC so i assume its the other problem, yes iam running mcafee firewall, ill disable that and try flashing.
thanks a lot

I was able to flash while running the mcafee, but I still can't connect to the internet after flashing the Hard SPL and the radio
Have you try using SD card to flash?
just renamr file "RUU_signed.nbh" to "KAISIMG.nbh" and place the file in your Micro SD card.
Power on the phone and enter bootloader mode by press "power botton" + "camera botton" and using stylus to reset the device. It will auto start reflashing the ROM. It only takes 1min to 2min.
Tried the mcafee thing but then it gave me the Vendor ID Error
Basically there is no way around except for flashing the Hard SPL and removing the vendor thingy.
Not sure if i want to do that cause that will void the warrenty.
Tanks so much guys
Well, technically you are but they don't know it untill you make it noticable and there are ways to make it back to OEM.

Tried putting in bootloader mode and flashing but the same Vendor ID Error, dont have a choice but to Flash the Bootloader. Dont want to do that cause had a Problem with my previous Imate phone, the service center guys checked that 1st.

HTC Tytn II recover from bad flash

Hi.
I have not posted much on this site, yet I have used it plenty of times. And first off I have to say "Thank you oh so very much" to everybody who frequent this site. Most of all I would like to thank the developers and rest of the crew that helps users on a daily basis.
I've had plenty of phones the last few years: 9090, 9100, Tytn and now Tytn II - all of which have been flashed - successfully I might add - with software and aid from you guys. (Ok, so my Tytn nearly ended up as a paperweight, but with some fancy maneuvers using the CE SDK from Microsoft I was able to use it as a PDA again)
Now, I am stuck. Really stuck. (Not saying I'm not to blame, but I am still stuck)
I've got a Tytn II (The P4550 HTC Kaiser 120 I believe). A few weeks back I flashed this with Alex's Home ROM (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Alex's ROMs). At the time I was running Radio 1.27.12.11, and continued to use it after the Alex flash.
That worked perfectly.
But being interested in always trying new stuff I yesterday decided to flash Alex.v5.WM61.HTC.302.UltraClean.ROM.beta2. And it really went bad.
I studied up on many postings (obviously not enough) and started the process:
#1: Hooked up the pda to my computer
#2: HardSPL v1
#3: Tri-Color mode and activesync grey
#4: Started the upgrade with KaiserCustomRUU.exe
Everything went smoothly until it hit 99% - there it stuck and the program ended with a communication error. My computer runs Vista (yes, I know. I wont even consider flashing another phone using Vista), but it has worked flawlessly 25-30 times before.
Anyways, what happened when I tried to recover was that the phone went into tri-color mode. Needless to say it was unable to recover. After much back and forth I reinstalled an old laptop with XP (as mtty does not work on Vista) and was able to boot it back in to the OS using a walk trough from this site - cudos to Laurentius26 for the post)
Anyways - it came back. But since it failed the flash I tried it again to make sure it finished properly. What I did was flash back the Alex Home ROM I had in the first place - that worked. Then I flashed back the 1.27.12.11 Radio ROM - which failed - seriously.
It hung on 17% and when reset it would only boot to tri-color. And this is where I am now.
Every time the phone resets it boots to tri-color. I've done and redone the mtty (with and without the task 28), but it stops in tri-color mode. If I at that point hook it up to mtty and issue the boot command it will boot properly, but thats kinda annoying - having to carry with me a XP laptop for each time I have to reset the phone. (Ive also tried the set 14 0 when the phone is in this state, but it will still only boot to tri-color)
So - what now?
I've tried flashing the RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship, but it stops with 294 - invalid vendor id. I've tried flashing the same ROM with HardSPL installed - no vender id error but it fails at 16%.
In desperation I've tried HTC_Kaiser_NL_ROM_1.56.404.6_Radio_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.17_Ship, but this also fails at 16%.
I've studied many a post on this site, but have so far been unable to recover from this error.
Is there any hope of regain the much needed functionality of normal booting?
Hopefully there is.
Thanks in advance.
Can you try these?

The proper commands for the mtty worked like a charm.
Thank you kindly Leo, this was much appreciated.
Now for a question if you have the time: Since I started this process yesterday I have not been able to flash a Radio rom properly. It stops on 17% or 99% and quits with communication error. Any ideas?
And can I trust that my phone now works?

One comment: I absolutely love the Palm SMS program added by Alex in his rom. You know if this is manually installable?
This is threaded SMS isn't?
That's default in WM6.1.
But if it's a seperate program there must be a cab out there.
I will have a look if it's that good you say!

Well, good is subjective ... but I love it.
As for the updating: halted on 16% - communication error.
*Looks around - "Where's my mtty"
How can I get pass these updating issues?
Which OS do you have on your desktop?
Do you have an original branded HTC device?
Try to flash a factory (shipped, not cooked) rom first!
Don't use a usb hub between your device and the pc, but use a straight connection.
See if there are applications running on your desktop.
Disable your Firewall for example...
And please take your storage card out.
Some tips....

HTC: Is orignial. Patched a few times using HardSPL

And no usb hub present.

Tried custom ruu with Radio 1.27.12.17.
Same results as other flashes - halts at 95%.
Seems like OS flashing hangs at 17% and Radio at 95%.
Use one more time MTTY, clear all FATS and I've send you a PM.

If you're getting an invalid vendor id it sounds like your hardspl or superCID isn't working correctly. Before going any further it's probably best to go to your bootloader screen and check that hardspl is still installed.
After that, I'd try flashing from the SD card.
Good point ach2, but when launching HardSPL and starting the update it lists the correct data on the bootscreen (Jumpspl or something equivavlent to that)
Leo: Looking around xda I found an article about dumping the ROM from another device. In the same thread I found a link to dumped original ROM. I patched that and it worked like a charm.
My PDA came back to its original state.
After arriving home just now I thought I would give your ROM another go, but same result - stuck at 16% (With HardSPL and Custom RUU)
What can cause this?

OH GOD!! is my Uni dead? NO GSM

Dear All,
Please kindly help me out of this.
Yesterday, My phone started to develop the "NO GSM: symptoms. At first, the phone ioccasionally turned off after it couldn't connect to the 3G network. Today, after reading nearly all the post concerning this "No GSM" symptoms, I applied the Mtty tools to desparately try to bring my beloved Uni back to life.
I applied that mtty.. I tried to upgrade it by using the shipped rom.. yet it said country ID error.. I reverted to use the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe but the radio rom upgrade failed....
Are there any other solutions I can rescue my uni? I read it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350349 that Radio Rom upgrade may be done through a SD card but the ftp link is dead and I can't get any files from there.
I miss my Uni so so much that I think I would buy another one if there's no way to save it... Please kindly help. all my gratitude.
Hi,
Please consider a new battery.
As strange as it may sound, one of my MDA Pro's had similar symptoms with battery at 70%. Replacing the battery with a new one fixed it right away.
The symptoms were:
- less network signal
- random turning off of radio
- could not access phone settings
- radio crash when trying GPRS connection
Also, on my other MDA Pro, I had problems like this, but they were caused by radio ROM 1.18. I changed to 1.15 and everything is fine since.
It seems that aging batteries are a major problem for weird issues. Just buy a new one at ebay and dont start flashing as a fool, cause you can risk a brick.
Cheers,
vma
My battery is actually new... just bought it 2 weeks ago.. and I tried the phone with both my new and old batt. still no luck -_-
I can't flash any radio rom now... is my Uni certified dead?
Any help would be great.. thanks
Try charging the battery first in another universal if possible, if battery is ok, put it in and try again, read Wiki and check if you can go to boot loader mode, check whether pc recognising the Uni once on etc.,
Read everything and the computer recognised my Uni ... tried MTTY tools to reset all the DOC partition in my Uni yet no way to reflash my radio rom again
I think as long as PC is recognising, dont consider it as DEAD. Its very much alive and keep hopes.
as I read through this forum, Radio ROM flashing is the most risky thing and often takes longer.
If you are not already considering, try only flashing radio rom and do not club with extrom etc, try redownloading the ROM or try a different version from a different link, unless you are particular about the one you are trying.
Always use the original USB cable supplied with the Uni.
Enter BootLoader mode by pressing and holding the power button and backlight button whilst performing a reset with the stylus. Connect Unit to PC to the USB port directly and not through a USB HUB.
Start flash again..
All the best

From the problem behavior it seems your device got GSM locked, I'm afraid it's permanent. But at least try ...
1. Remove the SIM card
2. Must upgrade the bootloaded to 1.01 if it's a G3 (and not upgraded already).
3. Run the Buzz's CID unlocker tool and flash the radio (version 0.00) provided with the tool.
4. Do the HR and check the status

But I can't. I've done everything correct. SDA application unlocker - auto.bat from the JockyW thread, JumpSPL and boot Rom Update Utility. Every time it goes to a 100%, but once I reboot and then hold volume down I still get
CEDA200
SPL-0.34.0000
MicroP-Willow#C (LED) v58B.
No luck. I've tried hard resetting my phone with brand new factory settings (my old 6.1 was heavily modded). I've tried XP and Vista. No luck. When I confirm jumpSPL my screen goes black. Then I run RomUpdateUtility while the screen is black. Is that right? Please advise me, I'd love to have 6.5 on my snap.
Please use the correct version of Hard SPL, suitable for your phone!(S 511). Above all use Jump SPL (depending on your SPL version) and follow the prompts in the DOS window. Just press space bar. On your phone, screen will turn black this is NORMAL!Then free to interact in any way with the phone and without disconnecting the phone from the PC will need to run Hard SPL.Again attention, according to your platform (S511).After all this if all is well you should install the favorite ROM .
Good Luck!!!
i have followed these steps
I have started the romupdateutility with the black screen and it completes to a 100 percent. however my tricolor splash screen doesn't change.
Strange ...Something is wrong there.Try on another PC, make sure Active Sync or Windows Mobile Device Center is working properly. But most importantly try another JumpSPL and HardSPL, those you have now may have errors or can be corrupt file.Had happened to me with my old Diamond.
what is supposed to happen?
The .0000 should say .HARD if the flash was successful right? If a phone is HARDSPL then it won't change after a hard reset right? I really can't get this to work... is there a newer jumpspl I should try? Everytime RomUpdateUtility completes with the black screen my phone reboots and nothing has changed
DAMN
I just bricked my second snap by trying a different version of JumpSPL, really really upsetting. I can't believe I did that again, all I wanted was my device to be HardSPL and now its a paperweight. UGHHHH no phone certainly isn't better than stock 6.1... I'm probably done trying to 6.5 this damn thing. I'm going to replace it and never mess with it again. Thank you for trying to help.
Sorry man, really sorry. And I agree with you, 6.5 is nothing better than 6.1 and I think so.I have 6.5 and do not see an obvious improvement or an addition to performance.Perhaps a higher consumption of resources.I think it depends on preference. In your case maybe not everything is lost.Read this very very very carefully: "Flashing and Unbricking your Maple" by Ookba.Even if they refer to Maple, can help you.Good luck!
yay!
After getting a new s511, I attempted this for the third time
Well, It worked like magic. .Hard is now visible on my tri-color screen. SO!
Now I can flash the ROM? Do I just turn my phone on to its homescreen and plug it in to run RomUpdateUtility? Any other precautions I should take?
@Johny, thanks so much man for all of your help i appreciate it.
Yes, theoretically should work without problems now.Turn on the phone then start running RomUpdateUtility. If Hard is visible, you are insured in case of failure to update the ROM. In my case...I did not succeed the first time this.Even if I did HardSPL, I could not install 6.5, an error occurs...All they have resolved JumpSPL.If you have problems post here. Good luck!

Device Help
I have a HTC Snap 511 from a Wireless Carrier in Puerto Rico it works just as fine as Sprint's. Actually its the same phone under another carrier. I tried Updating the rom i got lucky it boots 6.5 but i downloaded the wrong rom because its for a GSM phone not CDMA now its asking me for SIM and i can't updated to the one it goes ( that i downloaded sometime later )... Tri-Color Says:
CEDA200
SPL-0.39.0000
MicroP-Willow#C (LED) v 58B
i tried putting the s511 Sprint ROM but says at upgrade communication error.
I think its because im downgrading roms?
CEDA is 2.00.XXXX
WILL is 1.50.XXX
Any comments are aprreciated.
PS-
SIM Failure
The SIM card is missing or is not valid. You can still make emergency calls if your service providers supports it.
