By request (and since my other half runs a HTC Magic, hehe), following on from my Hero, Pulse and Nexus One kitchens and most importantly with the permission of the legend himself that is cyanogen, i'm pleased to present a 'MoDaCo online kitchen' version of Cyanogen's v4.2.15.1 ROM.
Note: As with all of the kitchens, this online kitchen is currently only available to my MoDaCo premium members (those who have signed up to MoDaCo Ad Free or MoDaCo Plus) as it is not yet running on an infrastructure that can support a huge number of users. I don't collect donations - signing up for a MoDaCo premium membership supports future development in many areas and gives you access to great services now and exciting developments in the future!
This is the first CyanogenMod kitchen - if there's something else you'd like configurable in the kitchen, post here or in the kitchen topic and due to the nature of the system, changes can be deployed very rapidly! Of course, let me know if there are any issues too, this is v1 after all.
Click here to view the Online Kitchen at MoDaCo.
Update: a prebaked ROM for Dream / 32B Sapphire and one for 32A Sapphire are now available for ANYONE to download! Sample the kitchen's delights for yourself!
Base configuration (standard CyanogenMod with HTC IME) - download MD5: f1e923f8992911e0c5e8fcaae64ff069
Base configuration (standard CyanogenMod with HTC IME) for 32A devices- download MD5: c65de4774d9b4b704d928cf7f189927d
Enjoy!
P
Update: the online kitchen is now running on new dedicated hardware. Please bear with us as we tune performance and configuration and report any issues via PM!

So kitchen is basically creating an update.zip with custom system apps?
Sounds interesting
Yeah, exactly...

By request, added bcrook's EBI1/32A patch as an option - please provide feedback!

very nice
Looks pretty cool =)
this is pretty cool.

While I appreciate the effort - you basically used Cyanogens ROM to make a kitchen so you can profit off it. This is all just a way to sell your subscriptions.
I like a lot of the stuff you do, but this is kind of not cool.

Because this requires special infrastructure on the host to glue the pieces together and sign the package, requiring nontrivial amounts of processor time, then must serve the custom file, requiring nontrivial disk space. Neither of those is FREE.
Though a potentially useful variant would be to cache every ROM it produces for up to, say, 48 hours, with the countdown reset each time that configuration is requested (and served immediately from the cache). Classic time/space tradeoff, there, but if certain configurations are popular, probably worth it. Though, for all I know, Paul does this.
This is quite cool and similar to something a couple of us proposed on the TheOfficial AOSP/ADP/TMO thread. We ended up with theme profiles, which are heavier (larger download) but don't require the infrastructure. Always love to see alternate solutions, though!
I think you guys are misunderstanding..
modaco is not charging for CM Roms, he is charging for a service he provides. In this case, it is making it easy for people to 1) stop clogging this forum with repeat posts.. over... and over......... and over again, and 2) customize their ROMS to their liking without having to invest a lot of time figuring out how to themselves.
By saying he should be giving this away for free, you are essentially saying that someone like Red Hat should GIVE it's support away for free. I mean, how can a company make a profit off of open source software that other people have helped write??!?!?
This is no different. That is how companies like Red Hat make their money, it's their bread and butter. Not to mention, they provide Certification avenues, this is just one other way they are "making money off other peoples hard work", according to the outraged ones in this thread.
i personally think this is pretty neat, considering I have been through the learning curve of rooting my phone and trying to customize a ROM; It worked but it took me a bit before I got it right and actually was able to use my update.zip. Thanks Modaco
Listen, I'm saying anything about what he has done or how much time was put into the project.
But before I start my argument let's give it a couple days to see how it does; assuming the stats are correct on his site.
If you don't wanna use it, don't.
All the kitchens to date have been for my ROMs, I put Cynoagen's ROM into a kitchen - with his permission - because a) people asked and b) I find it useful.

Yeah, i'm caching each ROM produced, but the number of variants is HUGE and takes a LOT of disk space, so caching isn't actually as valuable as you think. With my Hero ROM IIRC I generated about 500 ROMs before I started to see any real benefit from caching. Crazy!

Now, this is something I might be interested in, depending of course on the type of functionality it will have.
By the way, I don't want to rain on your parade but I just think your current version of the project should be free; that's all.
I remember someone in the the XDA WM forums created a kitchen for roms and cabs and it was pretty cool.
I like your project but will it only work for a specific Cyan rom?

AFT firmware mod for HTC Dream
This reflash is hybrid build from leaked files and sources of Magic reflash.
* I do not include any radio's in my build. If you are coming from an RC33 build, you can get the latest radio 2.22.19.23 here This is the same radio as the one that came from HTC.
http://sapphire-port-dream.googlecode.com/files/Saphire-Radio-Update (rc33).zip
Набиши
This Build based on the The Dude's Cupcake v0.8 NO WIPE Regular and have some changes:
Changes made by AndroidFan team:
• All packages in reflash had been optimized like in other official Android releases. Due to this the final size of the image had increased. It made us to delete some useless stuff. But this optimization saves approximately 20 Mb of user data and improves system performance and startup time.
• Chinese font, voice dial files and several standard ringtones were deleted to save extra disk space.
• Busybox was also removed (unfortunately there were no enough space for it)
• 2 on-screen keyboards
• Russian language is installed by default and can be switched to English easely.
The most important improvement – is optimization. Dex files (with code) are being extracted from package during its installation. After phone-targeted optimization they are put into cache folder. All non-final reflashes comes with usual packages which should be optimized before usage. During optimization process all non-optized code is being replaced by ready-to-use one. This saves storage space and improves performance.

Sorry I don't speak Russian, so forgive me for posting the question here rather than http://androidfan.ru....:D
Actually not only performance, we also tried to improve stability and added ‘garbage collector’. We are just at the beginning of our work, further releases are to come. Btw, there is a special thread on our board for English-speaking users.

Good luck with that. It took me 10 minutes to find that thread. I had to find the forum link in the menu through trial and error.
I don't see this catching on much, especially with this kind of support. If a noob can't figure out how to rename a zip file, I doubt they're going to search a russian website for the answer.

Trust me when I say russians can be quite rude unintentionally but yes some designated 'props' are in order as well as a "spec" list of where the build is.
Haykuro- I would pm this but I have a feeling your box gets overcrowded so let me just say a considerable donation would be made to you if you could produce a build based off the current G build that would allow my wife to switch back and forth between russian and english as she chooses for text etc.
Its great that more and more people are creating custom roms. I love options!
it would be even better if everyone would work together on one build instead of a half dozen different builds....

Dude's G build has Russian locale in it. Look at the screenshots, see if you like it.
There's an option of installing Russian VK (3rd screenshot) into any build, it was on the market at some point... not anymore though. I still have it somewhere. Let me know if you need it, I"ll send it to you. It's fairly simple VK, no spell check, no auto correction but it does the job.
Good luck.

Hey come on you guys. This guy has come on here to show us another version of Android. Lets discuss his version instead of Dude's, or JF's or Haykuro's. We can discuss theirs in their threads.
This is a little program I wrote that people wanted back when android roms first came out, and now I have had a little time to be able to put it together. What this is, is a database that I will fill with complete information regarding android roms that users may want to download.
It diminishes the need for users asking the same old questions like "Does wifi work?" or "What Android OS is it?". This would save a lot of posts and time. The screenshot below is both colourful (yeah, I'm canadian) and satisfying to the users that wanted this to ease their use. All downloads through this program are DDLs, meaning Direct Download Links hosted on a couple of Fast Download servers that should also eliminate any rapidshare waiting or time wasting on megaupload looking at it's glossy orange-ness. Anyway.

To be an uploader/moderator for tAROMDB, you must make a request within the application after registering. After doing so, PM on this forum, or mine, of your username that you requested with, and i'll bring you upto speed on how things will work as an uploader or moderator. It's very easy, and it looks great overall. As a reminder, this database has like no ROMs in it, so don't download this unless you are willing to do some uploading, or just want to check it out.

[Changelog]
Version 0.5
+ Added Tactile commenting/ratings (98% complete)
+ Added more ROM information available for a single rom
+ Updated GUI to reflect the new information added
+ Added 2 ROMs for example (32A, New Radio)
+ The system uses FTP for uploading and downloading, it makes things a bit more accurate.
++ Kernels will be added soon
++ Themes will be added soon
Version 0.2
+ Added User Accounts
+ Added Ratings
+ Added Comments
+ Fixed Back button
+ Added "World's Smallest (in kb) MP3 Player" on right click
- Taken out Submitting restriction (Anyone can now submit and upload a ROM)
- Re-coded the navigation from scratch
I'll have to apologize for making the ROM Submitter not as...pretty as the other pages. I just felt it really isn't needed too much. But, if you really want me to do it up, just let me know.
I'd be willing to help maintain the database as much as I can.
EDIT: Maybe a 32A / 32B option as well. Allows people to not get confused. Make it so that Yellow is 32A and Red being 32B or something. So that you can't make any mistake
Sorry I should post the other screenshots. All categorizing has been done. Including Phones + Their phone model types.
**Updated with how the categorization would work (Forum/Thread style with Downloads)
- Phones can be added, Subcategories/Models can be attached to each phone, and Roms and Themes can be specified.
How would you be maintaining this database for users? It would have to read from an online server would it not.
Yeap, and I'm going to include a "Submit A ROM" Button for select people and devs. So it eliminates people spamming it with multiple duplicates.
Well if you need a hand maintaining the database, I would be happy to help.
Thanks. I will put it up for download when I finish Setting up the "Submit ROM" section. PM me your IP. :/ Only reason I ask of this is to only allow YOUR IP to be able to see the section for adding roms No malicious-ness.
Look, my ROM is in there! I'm famous!
Lol, your ROM is actually a wicked example for my programs tests.
it will be awesome, we need this.
Nice idea, but not original...
Look at
http://db.androidspin.com/android_build_information.asp
they categorizing roms but it's messy...
Your work may be better, if you want to continue project...
I got the idea FROM androidspin, and BECAUSE it was the ugliest implementation of categorized roms. And plus, it's a web app, meaning it uses PHP. PHP has its limitations. As opposed to desktop applications that could do a shiz load of more. I'm almost ready to release this thing. I'm just finishing up the Submitting and categorizing.
I added Camera,Wipe, and Sync as per requested by many people through PM. Thanks.
Please continue developing and please release this! This project has alot of potential, and it looks awesome.
I'd be happy to keep the database up to date. PM me if you want my IP adress.
PM ME if you want your IP address added to access the submitting features. Too many people to PM, so whoever wants to help, PM me.
Hi, you should put two categories under magic 32A. One for 3.xx.xx.xx radio and other for 6.xx.xx.xx if you havent already
Regards,
Eyegor
good job .. how about puting req for each Rom like spl and radio and any other special req
one more thing : can u make a form that can be filled by devs ( an nfo like file ) and recognized by ur program so that any new rom can be added easily
This is a fantastic idea!
A rom repository that hopefully would work across XDA, HoFo, Modaco and so on
maybe you should add a link to the forum thread that is the project home for each rom, so people would know where to give response on the rom.
I am looking forward to discovering new roms to play with once you release you program.
Are you going to add the possibilty to rate roms?

That is exactly what I am doing right now. Since a LOT, yes a whole lot of people have been requesting a Section on SPL & Radios, that's going to make my life a lot more impossible. It means I need to re-program everything to setup for new types of categories. Well, I don't have a problem with programming stuff, I can't live without doing something so I will do it, but only if enough people agree to this program NOT being released for a little while longer.

Well, I have my own forum, I could just shove all the roms individual stuff there. But, I was thinking. What if I added a comments response system within the program? Like, how the android market has comments. Hmm.. wow, more re-programming. Crap. Alright. I'll make it away so that it can be added on later. But for not I can work on the main things to get this done. Which is submitting roms, and displaying them in a nice GUI interface.
cagra said:

Well I suggested that in my first post. I don't know how helpful it would get if i'm going to add comments. Hmm... Find me some nice.Stars... No wait! Omega symbols...yeah. That's grand.
On the developments on the actual software, I'm going to have to recode everything. Not really everything. But the category system, and the submission system. I'll replace the first post with the New pictures of the new systems As they are finished.
I have decided to put the categorization of SPL and Radios within the roms content field. So where all the checkmarks are, will have SPL and Radio somewhere there displaying what type of radio and spl is needed or...perhaps. Recommended.
EDIT* Okay, everything is just about done. All that is left is the Uploading system which uploads files to a fast download server. Release is closer, then people will be able to populate this. I updated the Original Post with new images of what it looks like After adding the SPL and Radio. And I AM aware that the submitting a rom window is VERY VERY ugly looking. It's not meant for the public to feast their eyes. Just for submitters to get roms submitted.
Well, I have released the first beta of this program. Please be gentle. Check the original post for download details. It's fairly small for an app that does so much. Have fun, for now... Infact, I have programmed the Android RΩM Database for Three different Operating systems....oh yeah.
hmm, as for the those submitters. Your IP's have been added and are now able to submit ROMS. Please be advised that you should start the upload of a ROM before entering any information. Uploading uses a custom encrypted FTP Protocol that might be slightly slower then your regular ftp uploading speed. But, the servers are as speedy as foggy light :/
Anyways, patience helps when uploading. I hope you guys can populate this program to help everyone.
Downloaded and ran it a bit.
Quite a nice app i must say, but i've found a bug. I've entered cursorsense rom just to see how it works, went back, selected 32a again and entered another rom. Now at this point the rom selection buttons didnt disappear but they stayed on the screen even after pressing back. So it was like i was able to select htc magic and amon ra 1.6.3 donut (as if it were a phone).
Thanks for all your hard work

We already have 1.6, 2.0, 2.0.1 & 2.1 ROMs out for the CDMA Hero, but the release of the kernel source means we have the means to improve on the performance of the kernel, porting to 2.6.29 (which is the true kernel 1.6 SDK4, 2.0, 2.0.1 & 2.1 use) & proper drivers for all the hardware.
Just on a side note, it's weird but HTC double tarball'd the source.

How do you mean? I see a bzip-ed tarball (.tar.bz2).
Man it's nice to finally see this. First step: finding proof of kernel modifications and therefore HTC's months-long violation of the GPL!
Sorry I screwed up my last post I know we have those roms available what I meant was we will finally have a fully functional 1.6,2.0 or.2.1 correct?
Thank you for the mirror -- I was repeatedly unable to complete a download direct from HTC, and was starting to get worried. Your mirrored file seems perfectly intact, however, and for that I am grateful.
Cheers!
Something tells me the devs here are gonna have lots of fun with this over the weekend!

as much as I agree with you on we need to find that they actually did violate GPL I dont think that they should be hassled about it at this oint just document the facts. What was it exactly that they violated how long where they in violation. and keep a link to the "Attempts to get kernel source code thread" so that if the issue does come up again then we have actual documentation on their practices with open source code.
Just my opinion
Very exciting

EDIT:
There is a lot of stuff in here that seems useless, mostly stuff for a full linux kernel. We should surely be able to make the foorprint drasticly smaller if all this stuff is getting compiled into it. Why would we need PowerPC or IA64 stuff???

I just wanted to post and say that I have successfully compiled it (thanks to toast for the pep talk ) and I am currently running a beta of fresh rom that is using the new kernel. By the way, toast and others have noticed (and it seems I can confirm) that HTC's power management might be closed source and isn't included. This means that even though the screen turns off and it reports that it's sleeping it might drain quicker than normal.

as much as I agree with you on we need to find that they actually did violate GPL I dont think that they should be hassled about it at this point just document the facts. What was it exactly that they violated how long where they in violation. and keep a link to the "Attempts to get kernel source code thread" so that if the issue does come up again then we have actual documentation on their practices with open source code.
Just my opinion

I agree, sort of. I'm not advocating for punishment, but this has to stop here. HTC should have been checking in these (rather minor, as far as I can see) modifications into to a central repository (GIT) where they can be used, improved, etc. The kernel is now months older and better, with hundred/thousands of updates, and now this stuff has to be merged. Apart from the relative pain of doing this, it highlights how unhelpful HTC's release methods are.
They have to be made to understand that this is unacceptable. An open letter, perhaps, showing line-by-line GPL violations does that.
What I want may be different from some here: I want a universal kernel that compiles and runs everywhere (with device-specific configs, libs and "drivers" added as needed). That's one of the powers of Linux (kernel), working on a common code set, improving it together. There are kernel hackers doing amazing things for Android (look at the cm-kernel commits to see what I mean) and we benefit from none of them if we are stuck without code or hacking a codebase from four months ago.
Sorry, this must be residual frustration still at work

I completely understand however hounding them now about just how late this release is does nothing productive. As I have heard several people say, if it becomes to much of a bother dealing with everyone they may just decide to drop the system all together, and that in my opinion would be a shame becuase the do make a very nice product. If we just keep this in mind and keep a link to all of this then if/when they release another cool device without releasing the code when they are supposed to then we can refer them and anyone else that may catch wind back to this to prove that they have a history of violation. and that may get farther than starting from square one trying to pressure them for the code for a defferent device.
and as much as you may and many others may want a universal kernel, I doubt that will ever happen just like with linux look how many variations there are to it. which I feel is one of the many reasons that it has not taken more market share from windows.
So HTC's change window is every 4th Friday. Please enjoy .
Was just wondering if anyone is excited as I am about this phone and if any roms could/will be developed for this model. I know Boost Mobile isn't a major carrier so development may get pushed to the wayside, but just thought I'd ask.
Thanks for any inquiries or info.
Now that the Boost Samsung Prevail has been actually released, I'm curious too as to whether this will be embraced by the community. At $180, along with inexpensive plans, I'd think this Prevail would be the equivalent to what the Nook Color is for tablets.
I too would love to see some action with this phone. As previously stated, being on an unlimited Boost plan at $50/month with shrinkage, I think this is the phone to explode in the Boost market. I can see many people getting this phone, such as myself within the next week, and would love to see something like CM7 available for it.
If this phone were rooted, and CM7 then made available I would pick up this phone in a heartbeat. I hope the devs pick up on it.
I am ready to test
I have been playing with cooked ROMs for year.
I am ready to help testing if any chef is interested.
There was just a custom rom beta released last night.
Several users are using it and have so far reported no problems.
Good stuff is soon to come

Hey Ravious you said there was a rom Any Links or locations
Google works wonders You'll have to beg CyanogenMod though to even touch this thing I bet
If someone had the stock rom on their device, can they back it up and post it so i can download the file? I would prefer the rom before the update.

dont mind the blue tint, shootme has some issues with yalls phone
Alright lets get to the nitty gritty of it all, this is the thread where all 0.x-1.x versions will be released, as it stands right now this is nothing more then just a glorified stock, but its better then that . deodexing the rom allows for easier themeing so i want to see some creative **** start to flow in.. yall dont want me making themes... anyways down to the goods
I want to apologize to anyone that was affected by version 0.5, i want to say thanks for teh support ive received during these past few days. as you can see ive decided to continue on doing what i can for yall. on that note it has been brought to my attention that i should include a disclaimer:
This is a product designed outside of samsung, i do not have the resources to make sure it is "bug-proof" (apparently they dont either.. but thats another story). as such by installing this software YOU accept responsibility for your actions. if anything does happen i will try my best to assist you, but i cant promise anything. as such i try my very hardest to make sure things work just great before they ever get put out in the public

What did you use for a custom recovery? I have root access on my prevail.... but now what =)
I went ahead and installed this on my phone despite not having recovery or a stock image if things go south =/ it worked just fine tho. The only issues I have noticed is the browser does not render when I tilt my phone, it does not expand it. Also on some webpages the buttons for submitting do not appear. But otherwise NICE job! Appreciate the rom and any future ones!
versions 0.8.5 is out btw, sorry i dont post on here often since xda doesnt like prepaid carriers
has anyone noticed yet that you are not able to get into the service mode to change the msl???
i think there s some apk's missing for it to work
would it be possible to put them back in so the phone can be reconfigured?
How is there no stock ROM yet?!
I have been using the v.9 loaded version of this ROM on my Prevail and everything seems to be running fine. I use the 3G speed tweek and it all is pretty good for me. Shabby Penguin has done a splendid job for this little device and I look forward to some further developement with this phone.. Like in the first part of this thread someone had mentioned how nice this little phone is with the shrinkage plan, etc. good buy for someone on a smaller budget that wants an affordable smartphone with the capabilities of being rooted and customized. Great work Mr. Penguin!
ps. PM me for the speed tweeking link if you need it since this one of my first posts on here I can't refer links until I am a little more talkative, so it seems.
Shabby Mod
Well I installed this mod and things went south...really south. Been trying to flash it with the stock rom except it's NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. Can someone lend a helping hand?
look up Odin Recovery ED13 will bring you back to stock
Does anyone know if the AAA password really is unique for each phone and if I'm totally screwed by not having it? I can't for the life of me get 3g on my phone now and I have a feeling the AAA password is involved. Google doesn't help too much, some say to call the provider and ask for it, others say it's unique to each phone and you're screwed if you lose it. In any case, I tried asking Boost Mobile for it and they pretty much had no idea what I was talking about.
I feel like shooting myself, I'm on my way to my third Prevail in two weeks.
How to root Samsung Prevail
I am still trying to find out how to install the root. Would you mind doing some baby steps with me? The root looks good and I would like to try it.
I received this Samsung Fascinate from RootzWiki.com at the Big Android BBQ. I don't need it.
This device has UnBrickable Mod applied to it. It can handle any firmware which you apply to the device. It cannot be bricked under any circumstances. You can always resurrect it with software. The device has a cracked screen, it is an asthetic problem only. The device is fully operational and ready to be used as a development device for any purpose.
Here is a link to the device http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SCH-I500RKAVZW
So, here's the contest rules:
1. Simply post up what you would do with this device and if you have the best project, you get the device.
2. There are no other rules. Just state what you would develop on this device and it could be yours.
This contest will end on 31 October 2011.
I've received PMs about the judging. Here's how it will work: I will narrow it down to a few projects, and then I will ask XDA Recognized Developers in our chat room to pick from the final few. I just want this device to go to someone who will develop something useful for the community.
Further the Glitch kernel on that device by:
Eliminating bluetooth echo
Work on keyboard pop-up in low signal areas
Further improve in-call audio tweaks that we have already starte
Further tweak voltages to allow more devices to overclock.
Have it open for whatever wierd stuff people want to try (like booting WP7 or Nexus S Bootloaders)
1.I would test my apps on it, that I have developed.
2. I would also get back into the ROM business and put out the best AOSP ROM I possibly could!
3. I would test anyone's ROMs that need tested (but the dev doesnt have the phone)
4. I would replace the screen
5. Release more themes for Fascinate ROMs
.
Only Developers please, any other post will be deleted
I've received a few PMs about how I will pick the winner. Well, I put some thought into it. I'm going to let Developers pick the winner. I will narrow down some of the better projects and then let the XDA-RDs pick the best of the best. This way it's fair and it's not just me saying a single project is the best.
I'd probably build a kernel for it.
I'd love to take on writing a new bootloader, maybe true dual rom support, etc..
But I doubt I truly have the skills needed to pull off such a thing.
=]
This is what i will do, as a dev:
1) Build my own u-boot (and try to make it running)
2) Update the whole kernel source of SGS/Fascinate to the newest 3.1 (still in RC)
3) Build Debian + 3.1 Linux kernel to run natively under our devices (sgs/fascinate)
4) Do some experiments about debugging with Arduino as output processing system
I have just bought a new arduino, so i think is time to start real development!!
Thanks in advance Adam!
Greetings

When you mean only developers, do you mean only those with "Recognized Developer" in their profile, or anybody who develops?

No. You do not have to be recognized to be a developer. It helps. Its easy to see who's a developer and who isn't. Just look at threads started... If the topics are mainly asking for help on remedial tasks, that's not a developer. If the topics are mainly releases or advanced subjects, that's a developer. I wont exclude people for their membership status. I'm looking at who can use a development device and who's going to actually use it as a development device to help the community.
It was given to me for development... I developed it and made it better with UnBrickable Mod and I added a battery cover. My project is done. I want someone else to use it as a development device. I'm hoping to give someone an opportunity which will benefeit the rest of the SGS community in some way, shape, or form. I wont judge based on anything except the project and likelihood of followthrough. Finally other developers will decide who gets it.
Noobs to XDA can be more skillful then Recognized Developers... I'm not concerned with titles.

Wow! Big Arrow eh?
Why me ? Simple.
1. I would develop the **** out of roms for the Fascinate
2. I am working on a dualboot linux environment and android (let the user choose in the beginning)
3. Rethinking and remaking a recovery (first steps taken)
4. Because I think I can pull all this previous **** off.
alright , hes probably not aware of this , and I will pm him a link , he already owns a fascinate and hes my favorite dev in the SGS community . his XDA name is sbrissen
from TSM , thats who my vote goes for ...
if i got it i would port roms over and get xboardermod up and running and mybe evena aosp hybrid rom i have on g2x, g2, and sensation

I would work on porting linux kernel 3.0 to it, mainly because the device apparently cannot be bricked and this would greatly benefit the portable open-source community, I would also use it as a testbed for having a tablet without Dalvik VM or the google android OS, which I so dispair at, instead I think I'd use UClibC to port a minimal x-server or if I am feeling adventurous an SVGAlib frontend. I think thats about all I could do with it but I think it's quite impressive for a n00b. Also I suppose I would have to adda blog to my website to update you all on my progress ;~)
Edit: (additional infos)
I do already have an advent vega with vegacomb and have made some trivial apps for that to display my previous web-dev work but I just remembered I am playing with psx4droid and aDosBox source to make it work & more usable on vegacomb, maybe I could also update & test it on this device and release it on here (I will never post anything to the market, sorry I hate google)

Do I count if I use the device as my first android based smartphone to take my android development to further levels?
Hey Adam,
If i get the device i will make a SGS II port like on the Samsung Galaxy S I also alot of Fascinate users have PM'ed me to port my rom onto their device. So now its all upto you.
Thanks,
Faryaab
I'm not a "Recognized Developer" on this board, but I do work on embedded systems (arm, powerpc, x86, etc...)
port u-boot to fascinate and enable fastboot. (See: [U-Boot] Fastboot gadget, v2)
investigate ubi/ubifs to replace yaffs2 (faster, and dynamic partitioning) without xsr/fsr/tfsr, you have to use raw mtd. See: Raw Flash vs. FTL)
performance improvements
port to other Galaxy S, S2, and others.
newer recovery supporting all of the previous items.
