Hello XDA, I have a following question:
- to introduce my situation: I have czech vodafone branded 32A HTC Magic and HTC doesn't provide these devices with updates
- I downloaded official ROM upgrade with HTC Sense for HTC Magic from this site (using other S/N): "http://www.htc.com/hk-en/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=267&act=sd&cat=all"
- It's the file "_HTC Magic_RUU_Sapphire_SMC_Voda_WWE_3.03.990.6_release_signed_NoDriver.exe"
- If I run the wizard it won't work because of S/N checking and CZ Vodafone branded device, as written above
- However when you run the wizard, the folder with name similar to {XXXX-XXXX-XXXX} is created in the temp folder (C:\WINDOWS\TEMP)
- This folder belongs to this RUU wizard and contains also these two files "ROM.ZIP" and "ROM1.ZIP"
- these archives contain following files:
===ROM.ZIP===
android-info.txt
boot_special.img
hboot_7200A_1.76.0007_090804.nb0
radio.img
===ROM.ZIP===
===ROM1.ZIP===
android-info.txt
boot.img
recovery.img
splash1_HTC_Magic.nb0
system.img
userdata.img
===ROM1.ZIP===
My questions follow:
1. Would it be possible to flash rom using these files?
2. What would be the procedure then?
3. Do I need to flash radio and SPL to versions from the archive ROM.ZIP and have perfected SPL? Or can I flash the radio to 6.35 and SPL to 1.76.2007?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
1. Yes
2. See this post
3. Don't install the SPL from the update but the 1.76.2007
(4. Be careful.)
Thanks swissp.
One more question about the radio.
Does it have to be exactly the version "6.35.08.29" - like it is written in the blog of the post from your step 2 - Make sure the radio 6.35.08.29 and SPL 1.76.2007.
Or can I use 6.35.10.18 Radio and 1.76.2007 SPL? From this post.

As you want. You can select first, test it for one day, then flash second and test again.
Recently i downloaded : [RUU][32A][CONTAIN SU] 3.04.401.2 Official RUU Sapphire HTC Europe AT test signed
This RUU wizard may run smoothly. Since i intend to root my HTC Magic, then i need to copy the "rom1.zip" file to my gold card.
HOWEVER, while running the wizard, no "temporary" file found in my temp folder. Does anybody have any idea why it's happen.
btw i did test with another PC, it's also the same. No temporary file name "rom1.zip" found.

hi at all,
since i'm very new to this whole android thing, i just want to make sure if the following guide is ok for my phone, i don't wanna brick it^^
Phone:
HTC Magic (with Google) Vodafone branded
SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN 32B SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0007 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
Jul 31 2009,15:49:25
FW 1.6 (untouched)
Build-Number DRC92
i wanted to use the tutorial in the androidpit wiki (sry, can't post a link since i'm new^^) and it's german, so i'll translate that for you:
what i need:
astro file manager from the market
flashrec-newestversion.apk
cm-recovery-newestversion.img
DRC83_base_defanged.zip
update-cm-newestversion-signed.zip
optionally: update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-newestversion-signed.zip
vf-sappimg-crc24-1.33.0007.nbh
1. rename vf-sappimg-crc24-1.33.0007.nbh to sappimg.nbh and copy it to the root of the sd-card
2. power off and then on with volume down hold down
3. push trackball 2 times to install the nbh, reboot after downgrade
4. copy everything else to the sd-card
5. install flashrec with astro
6. start recovery flasher, download recovery image, then backup recovery image then flash recovery image then reboot into recovery
7. while rebooting hold home+power
8. select Nandroid v2.2 Backup
(9. optional) apply any zip from sd and choose the spl
10. wipe data/factory reset
11. apply any zip from sd --> DRC83_base_defanged.zip (NO REBOOT!)
12. apply any zip from sd --> update-cm-newestversion-signed.zip
13. reboot
will that work? and what do i need the engineering-spl for? would you recommend it? i read that flashing the spl is dangerous=) and where exactly is the exploit used to actually gain root access? i think the sappimg nbh is an altered recovery-image that looks like an updated recovery-image to the phone (and gets installed because of that) that is vulnerable (the 1.5 recovery? heard that one has the vulnerability), right? but why do i reflash the recovery-partition/image(?) then afterwards with flashrec?
and do i have to do something with the sd-card so i can use it? some kinda partitioning? i wanted to use the update-cm-4.2.15.1-signed.zip with the ram-hack.
thx for any help, suggestions or explanations and sorry for my bad english=)
greetz from germany,
das_coach
PS: i'm writing this just to make sure the info i found is the current state and that it's compatible=)
EDIT: it worked=) cyanogenmod running=)
and as always thanks Sorry just realized this is in the wrong section I have multiple forums open. Please move if needed
the radio is included is froyo's update.zip
search the forum
you could dl Modoco's foyo rom and just pull the radio.img file from the zip and use fastboot to flash it.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio.img
is is assuming the radio.img is in the same directory as fastboot.
If you use the Froyo Radio on an Eclair build you get KERNEL PANIC!!!!
Any way, it breaks stuff on non Froyo build!

Using this method is most definately NOT recommended hence why it was made for fastboot.
Please come see me rather than taking the risk of bricking your phone if you have problems setting up the sdk.

I don't understand why people even if them were told several times that flashing SPL and RADIO by recovery is risky and should not be done, create a new thread proposing especialy those risky methods ...

Then you're not going to like what I have to say but....
There are enough guides and walkthroughs around not only this forum but all over the net and including my Irc channel for real time one to one help there is no other excuse but ignorance and an unwilling nature to learn! Pure and simple.
You are missing important warnings..
Despite it always being safer to use fastboot as instructed elsewhere (and in many launguages on other forums) you are also missing these warnings:
1) flashing a 2.22 radio via recovery if you have a 3.22 or 1.33 radio via recovery *will* brick your phone
2) flashing the 1.33.0013d spl with a 1.22 radio via recovery *will* brickk your phone
Last if you are ignoring all warning and continuing: use the radio 2.22.28.25 with the flashable zip in my thread as at least it will minimize the problems listed above. (Particuarly because it will warn the user and prevent you from flashing if a radio other than 2.22 is installed.)
For those that can't set up adb/sdk to fastboot, check out: www.theunlockr.com got to "how to" there is videos on just about everything you need... go site for thoose that can't read verry well.....

but it is not a proper full S-ON
afaik the only restriction it has is flashing partitions via fastboot
for example you can still make system rw, which is something you can't normally do with S-ON
Noob's Guide in Flashing ARHD 6.3.x (UPDATE)
Hello there, I have noticed that many of the noobs like me are having trouble in flashing the newer ICS ROMs, Particularly mike1986's latest ARHD 6.3.0 XE ROM.
It's OKAY if I don't get recognition for my work. But my ultimate goal is to help Noobs like me
DO ask questions if there are any queries about the guide! I will be more than glad to help you.
Disclaimer
1. I Do NOT hold responsibilty in any bricked devices that are caused when following this guide.
2. I Do not own anything in the links provided. These are results of hardwork of mike1986, ziggy1001, xl VipeR lx, madmaxx82, Kohr-Ah & Hawke84.
3. Also you could visit joaquinf for a similar guide.
Basic Information
1. You will need, a HTC Sensation/XE/4G which is S-OFF and SuperCID-ed(optional - you will know later). xl VipeR lx made a guide on this Here
S-OFF in this case allows the Flashing of Files(Security Off) and SuperCID allows the flashing of ANY ROM to the device regardless of the carrier.
2. You will also need, a custom Recovery(4EXt, Clockwork Recovery etc), this actually Flashes the files, whereas S-OFF ALLOWs the flashing of files.
3. Please note to ALWAYS check the MD5 Checksum to prevent any bad downloads, which may result in bricking when flashed.
Preparation
1. Always, Always ALWAYS make a NANDROID backup of your current ROM. To do so, go to your Custom Recovery and Backup the Whole ROM.
What this does is that it simply backup everything ( setting, rom, software, etc.. ) and put it on your SD Card. If something was to happen(bad flash, bootloops etc), You can just go in recovery, and recover your phone with that. It then reinstall everything the way it was.
2. Even though you have already made a NANDROID backup of your current ROM, DO make a backup of your apps using Titanium Backup or System Tuner, So that later on when you are on a new ROM, you could still recover all your Applications & data that you installed on the previous ROM.
3. Download the Latest 3.30 firmware package by mike1986 from here
This is required due to the ROM being build on the 3.30 RUU* Base. Firmwares are basically what your phone needs to run the ROM.
4. Alternatively you can download the latest User friendly 3.30 firmware by Kohr-ah from here
To get your CID, To get your CID, you can simply use an app called CID Getter from the app store. After getting your CID number, just download the CORRECT file for your CID and download it!
5. Download the latest 4EXT Recovery Touch by madmaxx82 from here
6. Download the Suggested Radio, Superwipe Script and the Latest 6.3.x XE or 6.3.x ROM from here
7. Remember to check all of their MD5 Checksum with the MD5 Checksum provided by the Download Host. You could use FastSum to do so.
Now that all of the preparation is done, It's time for the actual flashing. Be warned!
Flashing the Firmware:
1. Copy the Latest firmware package (PG58IMG.zip) you have previously downloaded into the Root of your SD card("Main Page")
2. Copy both the Superwipe and the ROM files into the SD Card. Preferably the Root of your SD Card.
3. Power down your device and make sure it is fully off-ed and not in Hotboot mode. (Tip: Try pulling battery)
4. Boot your device into bootloader, if you still don't know how to do that by now, it's by holding down the Power button + Volume down together till a white screen with words(not HTC) appears.
5. Make Sure you have done SuperCID and the SuperCID number should be 11111111 (or not if you are using the "User Friendly Firmware Package")
6. The firmware package should be found seconds after you booted into Bootloader, press the power button to confirm update.
7. Let the bootloader do it's work and you are done! - Tip: Your device is expected to update halfway, then reboot back into bootloader and continue updating. In the meantime DO NOT TOUCH YOUR DEVICE.
It's is to note that Firmware 3.30 still has Fastboot commands enabled. This means that fastboot commands like getvar, push, fastboot reboot etc is enabled. This is usually related to ADB.
Now that You are done with the Firmware, now lets move on to the ROM. If you are coming from below version 6.3.x you MUST flash the Superwipe Script first before flashing the ROM, for instructions to flash Superwipe Script, see SuperWipe below.
Flashing the ROM:
1. Eject your SD card and boot into Bootloader.
2. Your Bootloader should now read
-Revolutionary-
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.27.1100
RADIO-(your flashed radio)
*unchanged*
2. Select Recovery Mode and then quickly & swifly re-insert your SD Card.
3. Optionally, you could connect your Device to the PC using the "Toggle USB Storge" funtion on your recovery to delete the PG58IMG.zip. This would make your life easier.
4. Now, while you are in your recovery, select "install from sdcard" and navigate to your Superwipe zip and install it. Your device will now reboot automatically into Recovery again.
5. Now select "install from sdcard" again and navigate to your Android Revolution HD 6.2.x file and install it like you did to the superwipe.
6. Remember to select the Tick ONLY WHEN your device is HTC Sensation 4G at the first option (Tmos Fix).
7. Remember to select the Cross ONLY WHEN your device is HTC Sensation XE when it prompts you which Kernel you are installing. Removed as of ARHD 6.3.0
8. Do select the Tick for the Bravia Engine Support for more goodies!
9. After finishing the installation, select reboot at the Recovery Homepage and you are done!
10. Do note that first boots may last from 5mins to 20 mins.
Now, After flashing both the Firmware and the ROM, it's time to flash the suggested radio for ARHD 6.3.x
Flashing the Radio(optional):
1. Open your downloaded Radio file and connect your device via USB to the computer.
2. Select Charge only (works for me)
3. Drag the radio.img from the Zip file to the root of your adb folder(previously used in Writing SuperCID) and Open up the "Start Here.bat" file
4. Type in the Following Commands.
Code:
cd C:\adb
adb devices - to check whether is your device connected
adb reboot bootloader - your device should reboot into Fastboot Bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio.img - now let your "start here.exe" do all the work
5. When the "start here.exe" shows "finished. Total time: ---", type in this next,
Code:
fastboot reboot
Your phone should reboot & everything is done!
SUPERWIPE
1. At recovery, select "Install from SD Card"
2. Navigate to Superwipe script
3. Wait for it to finish flashing. - ARHD's Script should reboot your device back into Recovery.
4. Done.
How to make the best of your phone?
1. Now that you have completed flashing your ROM, you can proceed to Restoring your apps. Do take note to NOT restore system apps or system data.
2. Get Root Explorer and edit your Build.prop file (remember to Mount R/O - Open in text editor) and look for
Code:
# Increase overall touch responsiveness
windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=60
debug.performance.tuning=1
video.accelerate.hw=1
Change the 60 you see into 150 and you should get something like this
Code:
# Increase overall touch responsiveness
windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=150
debug.performance.tuning=1
video.accelerate.hw=1
Remember to Save the File! Root Explorer should also create a backup of the old Build.prop file.
3. To improve smoothness, you can also purchase System Tuner PRO and do the following settings.
Go into CPU settings, And set the governor to interactive, tap boot settings. Select "Force CPU1 Online" (to run both cores).
To offset some of the battery hit, I go to Screen Off Behavior, select On Demand governor with a max CPU speed of 540mhz. I leave the in call settings as is because I tend to do other things like look up information while in a call.
Set all the tweaks (such as sd card tweak, CPU settings, and Force ALL CPU Online) to run at boot completed. (as of 1.3, I now have them set as init.d script)
Reboot and I am done.

4. For ICS Fixes or Mods, Go to this thread by Hawke84 [Here]
Reverting to Gingerbread or below
Here's a brief explanation on what's going to happen.
1. You will have to flash firmware 1.17 - with referrance to "Flashing the Firmware" above.
2. You will then have to flash the previously downloaded Superwipe script
3. Only Then you could Restore your Nandroid backup if you have one, or flash your downloaded Gingerbread ROM.
4. And lastly flashing the Reccommeded Radio for that particular ROM or Backup.
If you have superCID, (11111111), use the 1.17 Hboot from here.
If you don't, use the 1.17 Hboot from here. Do note to download the right file with referrance to your MID and CID.
Hope you enjoy ARHD 6.3.x/ARHD 6.3.x XE.
Cheers!

Nice guide but I did not think that you can do advanced fastboot commands like pushing a radio after doing the firmware update?

You need Root Explorer (or any root exploring app) to do this.
It should be located under System folder. Remember to Mount R/O if you are using Root Explorer!

For ARHD 6.2.x/ARHD 6.2.x XE you need or need not SuperCID.
You could flash the firmware package from this Thread
To get your CID, you can simply use an app called CID Getter from the app store.
After getting your CID number, just download the CORRECT file for your CID and flash it. You should be alright!
Cheers!
Thanks for this!

No, Thank YOU for your wonderful work
Had to move this to general, as it is not development nor a general guide, of which there is a number in development forum already.
Best is to tell arhd dev to include it in his thread.
Cheers
Alrighty
I thought you don't have to flash new radio, if you flashed firmware ?! Isn't radio included in it ?
This is my first post, Mods please move this to Android Development. I will continue to add new features inside the RUU rom.zip(s) as i have time.
I have taken the time to use @kmdm 's unruu and ruuveal binaries to extract and decrypt the Official RUU's posted in @old.splatterhand 's INDEX THREAD.
Not only have i decrypted the rom.zip(s), but i have also modified the android-info.txt inside them, so that as long as you are running Official firmware, you will be able to flash without having to edit the android-info.txt yourselves.

If You Are Unsure About How To Use What You've Just Downloaded, Don't Use It

First here is K2_U Variant. There are 2 Versions. One is the Europe and the other is Asia. I've edited the android-info.txt inside both versions' rom.zip. Meaning that European may flash Asian & Asian may flash European. Of course European can flash Europe Firmware, and Asian can flash Asia Firmware.
But, just because you can, does not mean you should!
Download the rom.zip and place it in your fastboot directory.
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
For Europe Firmware
Code:
fastboot flash zip K2_U_Europe_rom.zip
For Asia Firmware
Code:
fastboot flash zip K2_U_Asia_rom.zip
For
Watch your device's screen and your Computer's screen for any errors. If any of the firmware files fail, Do Not Reboot! Simply run the command again.
For Europe Firmware
Code:
fastboot flash zip K2_U_Europe_rom.zip
For Asia Firmware
Code:
fastboot flash zip K2_U_Asia_rom.zip
Code:
fastboot reboot
Now your device will boot into OEM 4.0.4 Firmware, and you may update to 4.2.2 with out issues.

I have added K2_UL_Europe & K2_CL_America to the Downloads list.
K2_UL_Europe is Official rom.zip only with edited android-info.txt.
K2_CL_America is Unofficial rom.zip containing Unmodified system.img, boot.img, recovery.img, and edited android-info.txt.
