How can I remove a theme if I want to revert back to stock look. I tried re-flashing my CM Add-on, but nothing happened.
Any help, thoughts, wisdom?
Thanks
Flash the theme template from the themes section. Top post *Sticky*

I usually make a nandroid backup before flashing a theme. This usually helps me get back to my base. But you do lose any changes in settings that you had done since the nandroid backup.
Does constantly flashing over themes cause prob..
Does constantly flashing themes over each other cause any problems or bits and pieces of information to stay in unwanted places. I mean, is there a way to delete themes instead of just flashing new ones over them, or is doing that even necessary? Thanks

I like to think of flashing a theme like laying a piece of paper with holes cut in it on a table. Table being the ROM and paper being the theme. Yah it edits some stuff but you can still see the table through the holes. If you flash a new theme over the top, it'd be like laying another paper on there. It deletes the old paper, but if the new theme ignores stock apps for ex, and the old one modified them you'd still have modified apps. I kind of like this but some might not. If not you can wipe and reflash the ROM then flash the new theme. Usually themes cover each other though and you never notice the old one! so don't worry about it unless it bothers you and you want to be OCD about wiping and flashing.
I think flashing morphs one after another makes more of a mess. You really should start from a fresh base when doing morphs since only images included are changed. Someone elses morph might not have certain images in them, so your old ones will stay.
Most themes are made from a template and will reflash anything in the template whether it was altered or not making a cleaner change.

I don't really know where to post this. I tried searching but there doesn't seem to be any info on this. I'm running Damage 2.08 which originally came w/ the stock black notification bar. However, after flashing that ROM, one of the first things I did was flash a white bar. This was months ago so I can't restore that version from nandroid, it would obviously kill everything on my phone now.
So what I'm looking for is basically a way to remove the white bar that I flashed or a .zip that has the stock black bar that I can flash over the white one.
Thanks,

Just flash the rom zip over it again without wiping. It will basically reset the visual tweaks (including the black bar) without affecting your settings.

For some reason it doesn't work. It hangs on the black HTC screen. That's right after I turn it on. Whenever I see someone's phone hang it's on the white screen - mine doesn't even get that far.
1. Does my A2SD have anything to do w/ it?
2. I tried black themes through Metamorph (old .jar version and new .xml version) and neither work. Both make the phone hang on the black screen.
3. I also have close to 100 apps installed - could that be part of the problem?
I appreciate any help!
I hope you did Nandroid before you made change? If yes, restore from Nandroid. To change back to the stock Black you just need to replace the PNG files in Framwork-Res.apk and push back to the phone.

Yes, I already restored from Nan. As far as pushing the stock PNG: that'll leave me with a black bar, yes, but also I'll have a black clock, wouldn't I?
Thanks

Try wiping dalvik-cache before reinstalling 2.08, then let it try to boot for 20 min. There might be a conflict that it can't sort through now. That, or just try upgrading to the most recent version of DC (2.09.01), that should reset the visuals too.
In truth, back when I was running Damage I had the same problems (with the hang on black htc screen after every mod ... upgrade to 2.09, metamorph, etc.). I just ended up moving on, and found many roms to be much more stable and expansive in terms of options. If you love Sense, then check out nfinitefx or ZenHeroFX; if you can handle moving to AOSP (for the sake of a HUGE boost in speed), then check out buufed or the CM6 nightlies. DC 2.08 worked very well for when it came out, but there is much bigger and better, so you might wanna consider an upgrade .
Either way, good luck man.

Thank you for the advice my good man! I actually seriously considered running Sense-less (lol) but I kind of like the Facebook/Contacts integration and the nicer camera... I'll give it another go - I never use the Sense Home, I use LauncherPro, so I know I WON'T be missing that..!
HOWEVER
Here would be my 1st question if I decide on AOSP: How do I make the notification bar black like in Sense?!
Although perhaps I could get Metamorph to work properly or that "services.jar" mod where you can change the color might actually work...
I'll give it a go probably tomorrow but if you have any more insight, I'd appreciate it!
Thanks

As far as the black notification bar goes, I'm running froyo with the blackmod theme, although there is one for darchdroid as well. It includes a themed black bar (as well as a ton of other sick theming features). The camera thing I cant help out on, but the new version of"facebook for android" in the market syncs contacts very well (better than my wifes with facebook sense). Another heads up, if you can find fancy widget on the forums, it looks just like the clock/weather widget everyone knows.
Hope this helps.

OK, I've run into a brick wall. I nan'd just in case (good thing). I wiped my phone. I wiped dalvik chache. I flashed 4 different ROMs because NONE of them load. I gave them all 30 mins of boot-up time. They all go past the black HTC screen, then continue on to the white HTC screen (good sign), then to the logo screen (better sign). However, all the ROMs, after about 20-30 minutes just go into the loop of white HTC screen to logo screen and it just loops.
The ONLY way to get the ROM to load is to remove the SD card. BUT All my apps are on the card. Do I have to wipe the ext partition too? If so, I'm puzzled by A2SD - I thought the whole purpose was to never have to reinstall your apps. So apparently, A2SD seems to be causing this...
You do have to wipe your ext partirion. A2SD is only to save space on the internal memory.

Aaahhh... makes sense... k, thanks!
I just installed the latest cognition and I see that the TWlauncher stuff has been removed, thus removing glasslock. This is by far my favorite lock screen and I was wondering if there was any relatively easy way to get it back that anybody knows of? Can it only be used if TWlauncher is fully installed?
I saw one thread somewhere about modifying some file in your theme to use various lock screens but it was super complicated and I'm not even sure it will work without the TWlauncher stuff.
Thanks

I believe you need to android.policy.jar file located in system/framework.... you can grab it from one of his earlier roms that had the stock lock I believe. ALso since his newest are fully deodexed... you just need the .jar file and not the .odex file if I understand all that correctly lol. Hope this helps
Hm... I see old copies of it here from past versions... but what other modifications might have been made to this? If I just swap it is it going to revert a bunch of other changes made or possibly just break everything?
Does anyone know?
This ROM is basically my personal built of an HTC sense ROM and will be the new base for my ROM that will come out sometime later on this week.
Im sharing it cuz i think it is a big improvement to the overall system. And i thought i'll share my work with everyone.
First i would like to state that EVERYTHING IS WORKING on this ROM. So unless its a bug i didn't notice... it's all good.
Now... what was done here was basically rebuilding all of the ROM's apks and frameworks to remove all of the useless files inside.
This resulted in much smaller apk sizes and resources.arsc files inside the apk's (up to 10 times smaller).
As a result of having smaller apk's loading times are faster and the ROM size is smaller.
All that is followed by the system consuming less RAM and CPU that can easily be translated into better battery life.
All of these changes should result in the fastest HTC Sense ROM thats is out now.
Keep in mind that its a Stock ROM so i only made a few tiny changes to it besides the fact the 99% of the apk's and framework are rebuild by me.
So, with that said... no screenshots are needed and understand that this ROM is meant to be used as a base for other roms if anyone would like to use it or as a daily driver for those who like stock ROMs.
As a side note... please understand that if u flash any themes over this rom it will take away the optimization i made cuz all the themes that r out right now still have all of the localization files in their apk's which will make my optimization of the apk useless.
This is what inside:
Rooted
Stock HTC Kernel (the one from OTA 3.70)
All of the stock ROM apps
Updated Apps
Updated Market (2.2.7)
4-in-1 Reboot Mod (my port)
USB/HotSpot Hack (my port based on vaelek port to calk's work) thats what i call team work, kinda.
Dalvik to Cache and Zipalign on boot
if u would like to add JsChiSurf power widgets mod flash THIS

here is the deal... ALL the themes are basically messing with the apks... so until a theme will use my packages... u will lose the opt i made.
the theme will work btw if u flash it btw.
as far as kernels... all should work.
let me explain a little more about what i did so u and some more people can under stand...
ok...
so each apk has inside it localizations files for many different languages... u can see all of those only if u decompile the apk btw.
it is very clear why the apks have those files in them btw... obviously htc dont make phones just for english speakers.
the biggest change i made was to remove all of those languages from the apks.
i only left in english and spanish instead of the other 10-30 different languages that were in the packages.
the htc evo in my opinion dont need all of those languages in it cuz it is a phone that is used pmly in the US... and u should also under stand that when im talking about the localizations files, im actually referring to the way that the UI is... not to language support which u get by the fonts.
now... as far as i noticed its not like we can actually have the phone in a korean UI anyways... so why have that extra files in the apk... right?
of course korean is not the only useless language to us... there are like i said 10 to 30 more useless ones like that all over the apks.
now... clearing those files gave me a much smaller apk like i said in the op... logically, smaller apk means smaller loading time and less hog on the mem.
this is translated into a faster rom and better batt life.
i hope that clears a little more about what was done here... and why.
This sounds awesome. What process did you use to rebuild the APKs? I'd like to give it a shot myself as a learning experience.

just used apktools... of course i paid attention to all the tiny details... its was at times a little more tricky then just deleting files and recompiling.
but... i tested it one by one until it was done.
i can't really explain the whole process... but basically take an apk out of any other rom besides this one...
decompile it and u will see all of those extra files that are basically useless for us.
all apks have them... i can go the extra mile here and even optimize it more by messing with google apps that also have those files in them... but what ive done here is good enough as a base or as an example of how it kinda should be if we want things to work better for us and only us.

thanks...
i came up with it cuz i remembered that when i was cooking manila for windows mobile in the past i used to (and everyone else also) remove useless languages to save on space.
here all of those files are in the apks... so it took a hell of a lot longer due to the need for decompiling all of the apks, recompiling and testing.
but... i think the results are pretty good.
Awesome...can't wait until your new ROM comes out. Thanks bro.
added the mirrors link.
p.s.
guys.. after running it for a while... let me know what u think.
Out of curiosity: So if I get an update from the market it will overwrite your apks...and then all the optimization of removing the unneeded languages will be lost, correct?
So, this may be a dumb question. If I were to use Calk's remove sense and launcherpro for my launcher, would I still see the same benefits?

u r technically right...
but, keep in mind that it will only affect the actual apk that was replaced and not the whole rom... i also tried to stay away from google apps that u can update in the market for that reason alone...
google leaves the localization files inside all of their apps... and if an update will come u will lose my opt... so i didnt bother with most google apps.
but thats why i said approx 95% of the apks.
all of the htc and the system that cannot be updated has been optimized.
the things that really effect the system is the processes that run all the time in the background... those will always be opt... so as for market apps... dont worry about it... its safe.
the reason im saying no to themes is cuz sometimes those themes take over all of those apps that run in the background... not to mention the htc and android resources... so that why im saying try to avoid themes.

Do we need to wipe anything before we flash this over and will we loose everything by flashing this over?
How much smaller is the ROM overall in space and RAM used?

i did not run a full 1 by 1 compare...
i can say that all the apk that have been optimized... and it approx 120-130 of them have got their resources.asrc files reduced to at least half the size and up to 10% of its original size...
if i look inside the system/apps folder i can see that on the original stock rom that folder is approx 120mb... mine is only approx 88mb... and all of the same files are there... so considering that not all of the google apps were touched and that not all apks needed to be opt i would say that the size was cut by about half overall.
yes i know from 120 to 90 its only 25%... but not all needed to be messed with... so from the app that were messed with... its at least half the size.
so i just checked theme chooser in bulletproof 1.1 and noticed all of my cm7 themes i restored from mybackup root were there as well,
so i applied one as a test, and it worked!! it skinned the statusbar and the icons!!

I can't thank you - because I ran out for the day, but i'm going to post a link to this in my thread.
You just probably solved the issue of adding additional themes to my ROM that I was unsure of how to do - if you still have all the stock themes from T-Mo/HTC as well.
Do you?
If so - you are the man!
I still do, when I set the new theme the icons you changed take a reboot to take effect, and of course htc bits don't get skinned but its a start!
when you set a theme when you go back to theme chooser it forcecloses a few times. but i was able to set a few different themes =]

Fantastic - I linked to this post from my ROM thread.
Looks like you cracked the nut open, and now it's time to sort the tasty bits from the shells.
I really appreciate you posting this find - keep us updated on what you come up with.
I'm going to spend a little time cleaning up the GPS thread I got going in dev, then jump back to Bulletproof - you've motivated me to do more work on the graphics/themes now instead of waiting.
Since it seems everyone is pretty stable on 1.1, i'll take this rest period to spend some more time graphically cleaning things up and see what I can do to get more themes added to the ROM.
I am certainly going to make a few more lockrings today - I have made and tested some using different shapes besides the ring and they work out well without problems.
I'll bang out some of those rings, then slide right into working on themes and probably cruise that avenue of development until sunrise.
I actually have to go out in the world and do some stuff tomorrow, but you've got me really excited and motivated.
If you clear cache and dalvik-cache before trying to load themes, you'll suffer less force closes on the theme chooser - let me right now make you a flashable zip i'll attach to this thread to uninstall and re-install the theme chooser and clear caches for you.
If you flash that after the new themes are on the device, it should reset the theme chooser and prevent the force closes - give me ten mins or so and i'll have it up here for you.
Dude - when I get my thanks button back you're getting some!
Edit:
Looks like I have the themes mod still up on my host for when I added the stock themes back in to the ROM when people wanted them before 1.1 - just flash this and it should solve your theme chooser problems.
Make a nandroid first - but let me know how this works for you.

I flashed the zip. When i open theme chooser all the previews are blank. I figure this is because since they were not built to preview the themes. After applying a regular mytouch theme all the previews are there. It seems like the gesture of sliding through the previews makes them forceclose oddly enough. Sliding slowly produces no forcecloses. And when using a system theme, fast slides work fine. Im guessing there are effects missing in the cm7 themes present in htc themes

Okay - good to know and thanks for the information.
We're kinda wandering through uncharted territory as far as my knowledge base goes - while some more veteran devs may be able to handle this off the top of their head to me it's all new.
All the little tidbits of info you are providing is helping a ton - I don't have a copy of CM7 for this device, so to download it now would knock me offline.
I am, however, running CM7 on my Nook Color, which is sitting right here, so now that i've got the GPS thread handled i'm gonna see about pulling some stuff from it and getting a start on this.
I am flashing a fresh copy of 1.1 to my dev phone as I type this.
I will not be including any CM7 themes in my Bulletproof release without direct permission from them. I've asked and received permission to use some of their work in the past - which never came about because it was when I was going to take over CK23's ROM. That obviously didn't go anywhere so neither did the need to use some of their work then.
They are great people and the only request they made was to give them credit for the works of theirs I used. That being something that's important to me - as seen in my ROM thread - I don't see it being a problem to use their themes...
... but not without asking, and if they decide they do not want me to use their themes in my ROM it's not gonna happen... and no hard feelings if they say no - for all they've done for the dev community the least the rest of us can do is respect their wishes.
For the time being, i'll be using their themes to test some stuff out and see how it all works - but again, any public release is dependent upon their permission. With the attention that whole team is putting to ICS I don't expect to get any kind of answer any time soon.
I think It would be a good idea to use the themes to knock the kinks out of using cm7 themes, and build that modified version of theme chooser into bulletproof. I that way we could use the themes with no issues and just go find and download them on our own.

I like this idea too. Figuring out what's missing from either the two theme-chooser/manager.apk files or the themes themselves so people can find their own themes is definitely important.
My goal for Bulletproof was to distribute it with about 20 themes to start on a fresh install - we gotta do something with all that free internal memory available now.
You've definitely paved the way for that dream to become a reality with this discovery and the supporting information you've been supplying since - I can't thank you enough for this.
I love the open source philosophy, curious people, and the home XDA has made for us to share awesome stuff like this - I just can't contain my level of excitement right now and am bouncing off the walls with enthusiasm.
It really is amazing, I'm just glad to have a mysense rom with awesome themes like honeycomb and gingerblur.
I think the themes themselves are missing the animations compatible with htcs theme engine.
The normal one doesn't bounce around with card like themes. I think that's the real problem, including which makes sense why it doesn't handle swipes well. I it doesn't know how to replicate the bouncing cards.

As far as I can tell it just requires a deodexed rooted mysense ROM.
Use mybackup root to backup your apps including themes and restore it them with data afterward

I tried my best to debloat GOV3 as much as possible. But even now, I'm getting PM's from some people who wish to get some old apps back into the GOV3. My answer as a whole to add it into GOV3 is a no, because I want people to experience the fastest, yet smallest I could manage (please understand where I'm coming from). However, the requests vary from TouchWiz Calendar, the old stock SMS app, and some others.
My advice to you guys (I don't want to leave you in the dark here hence why I'm making this post) is to simply download both GOV2 and GOV3.3 and drag'n'drop the .apks you want from GOV2's /system/app/ folder to GOV3.3's /system/app/ folder.
If you need help doing this, let me know. I know it's simple, but some don't even know what WinRAR is.
All the best,
TLS.
I <3<3<3 GOV2! When I was "ROM shopping" the one I really loved the looks of was nowhere to be found [older version of one and the newer version had an unappealing color scheme - I realize that is vain and petty] but the option to control the screen brightness by rubbing the status bar was intriguing [and worked beautifully, thanks to whoever programed that nugget] and I really loved the overall improvement in the phone. Not a fan of Launcher Pro but that was easily remedied...
In GOV2 I've already snipped out what I didn't want, swapped launchers, and dropped in the other stuff I wanted but I cannot figure out how to put back the Samsung keypad... I really missed the T9 layout [lame, I know]. I looked through the lib and usr directories, but it looked like everything was there but the apk... yet when dropped in, no love. Was my problem that it hadn't been dropped in prior to flashing? I just had to exchange my SK I now get to redo this whole process [yippee skippee] so I could try it that way... I am going to feel slightly dumb if that is the source of my problems...
Also, I noticed a thread about a kernel which removed the keylogger from the SK [and only flahsing it on a KJ2 blahblahblah]... the kernel under GOV2 [or 3] also strips the keylogger or no? Just curious.
I will be reflashing soon [possibly tomorrow if I cannot wait till Friday evening when I have actual free time] as I just cannot take the stock ROM for much longer [it has only been since Monday night]... today it crashed so hard that it couldn't reboot... it just did the 2 vibrate again and again and again until I finally took pity on it and held the buttons so it would reboot. Poor feble thing... lol.
